Wow! Did you buy out the store?
I think I did! I hope my credit card can take it. I think I maxed it out.
Well, as long you make the payments on time and pay off the balance.
Hmmmmm … I have been late a few times. I guess I need to take
care of that, eh?
If you don’t, a collection agency may come knocking on your door!
What do you mean?
Well, a few years ago I maxed out my credit cards and then a
collection agency came knocking! It took me a while to re-establish a
good credit rating. How is your credit history?
You know, I have no idea!
You need to take care of that. As consumers, it’s very important!

How is that?
For one thing, having a bad credit history and too much debt may
cost you money in interest.
That’s not good!
No, it’s not. But even worse, a bad credit rating can prevent you
from getting credit when you need it in the future.
I heard you can check your credit report online. Is that true?
Yes it is. Let me show you how!
My husband and I are thinking about buying a house within the next 2
years.
You need to start checking into your credit score now.
A short note before we start!

What is a credit report?
Activity 4
Image shared under CC0
A credit report is a document that
contains information about any
loan or credit you have taken out
in the last 6 years.
A credit report will indicate:
- If you make your payments on
time
- How much money you currently
owe
- your credit limit available on
each account in your name
A credit report will also reveal:
- How many lenders have
checked your credit score
- The names of these lenders
A credit report will also reveal:
- your loan was an installment
loan (I)
OR
- a revolving credit loan (R)
Each credit transaction will be
given a number from 0-9.
Each credit transaction will be
given a number from 0-9.
A “0” rating means the loan is too
new to decide if you have made
timely payments.
A “1” rating is the worst rating
you can have.
A “1” rating is the worst rating
you can have.
A “9” is the best rating you can
have.
A “9” is the best rating you can
have.
A “9” rating tells a prospective
lender that you make your
payments on time, as agreed!
your overall report is also given a
number to indicate to a lender
how likely it is that you will pay
back your loan.
That number will be between
300 and 900.
300 is the worst credit rating a
report can have.
900 is the best credit rating a
report can have.
650- 680 is considered the
minimal rating you’ll need to get
more credit from a lending
institution.
The best way to improve your
credit rating is to make your
payments on time.

  • 26. Listen to a dialogue: Johanna Margarita Johanna Margarita Johanna Margarita Johanna Margarita Johanna Wow! Did you buy out the store? I think I did! I hope my credit card can take it. I think I maxed it out. Well, as long you make the payments on time and pay off the balance. Hmmmmm … I have been late a few times. I guess I need to take care of that, eh? If you don’t, a collection agency may come knocking on your door! What do you mean? Well, a few years ago I maxed out my credit cards and then a collection agency came knocking! It took me a while to re-establish a good credit rating. How is your credit history? You know, I have no idea! You need to take care of that. As consumers, it’s very important!
  • 27. Listen to a dialogue: Margarita Johanna Margarita Johanna Margarita Johanna Margarita Johanna How is that? For one thing, having a bad credit history and too much debt may cost you money in interest. That’s not good! No, it’s not. But even worse, a bad credit rating can prevent you from getting credit when you need it in the future. I heard you can check your credit report online. Is that true? Yes it is. Let me show you how! My husband and I are thinking about buying a house within the next 2 years. You need to start checking into your credit score now.
