Why I looked at this video:
I decided to look at this music video because I felt Miley Cyrus’s music is similar
to Fire Drive Tiger’s poppy appeal. Although the fan age group for her I feel is
slightly younger than we are aiming at, it would be good for us to look at the
music genre pop/rock.
Plot Outline:
The whole video is Miley on stage singing to a large audience. She has two male
backing dancers and although the video has no storey to it the video shows of
Miley as a performer and I think this is a good thing to use.
Genre:
The genre of this music video is the same we are looking at, teen film. I know this
because of the young singer and the colour scheme used. This is the same
genre we are looking at for the music video for Fire Drive Tiger. The pop/rock
music genre is also a convention of a teen film. The two genres appeal to the
same audience. The special effects also make the video younger which again
ties in with the teen films.
Audience:
As I have said the audience of this video is younger than who we are focussing
on. I believe Miley’s age group would be very young to mid teens. (8-15 years.)
This is due to the colouring of the video. The pinks are very young and the
special effects are starry and sparkle. The only problem I could see with this
video is I felt the song sounded particularly mature for the age group. Although it
is poppy and dance music, the song is low and sounds sultry the way Miley sings
it. The music is similar to Fire Drive Tiger and has the same set up of a female
lead singer and a male band.
Mis-en-scene:
Miley herself is wearing a white vest top and white trousers. The colour white
itself represents purity and stands out on stage. The top is tight fitting yet overall
Miley appeals to her audience as she is suitably covered up yet she is still trendy
and looks good. The male dancers in the video have muscles and are wearing
tight black tops which does not fall into the age category however look effective
against Miley’s outfit. The men have a sex appeal due to their tight clothing yet
they add to the pop genre in her video. The colour scheme of pink is particularly
feminine as well as the pink star special effects and the baby blues. These
colours are vibrant and stand out well. Special effects such as a split screen are
also used to make the video look more fun and up to date.
The band at the back are in white shirts and ties which although it is stylish and
ties in with the dancers and Miley, it is a slightly older look to have for such a
young artist. The large screens and the hundreds of people show Miley’s status.
Anyone who watches this video knows that she is famous and someone to look

2. out for. This would be useful in our video to show the band playing to a crowd as
they are an up and coming band that will need to be seen as something people
will want to get involved in.
Although there is no storyline to this video I think it works well for the music and
the artist. I think the idea of showing the artist on stage performing could work
well for Fire Drive Tiger because it gives the audience an opportunity to see the
band perform. It also goes well with the teen film genre. It is young and stylish
and I like the use of lighting it gives the video a stylish and polished effect.
