Creating our music video means that
have to choose the costumes that
we wanted for our characters
featured in our music video. For our
main character we wanted
something that embodied rebellion
and was young so we pulled a few
different choices of outfits then styled
them to how we thought might fit into
our music video. For our other
characters that are less prominent in
the music video we did a mood
board for the sort of look we want
then sent it to our actors.
Mood board of our
female characters style
I made Karla try on
this dungaree dress
as it’s trendy and girly,
as well as having on
of the traps off the
shoulder could
suggest she's
careless and chose
her outfit as it was the
quickest thing to put
on rather than for a
fashion statement
which would fit with
our ‘free spirit’
character. I also like
this look as the use of
layering under the
dungarees are very
much in trend.
I choose to try this outfit for a possible
look in our music video as I wanted to see
what a generic outfit for our target
audience would look like. I like the simple
look of a classic denim skirt and vest. The
puffer off the shoulder can either show her
rebellion of distract the audience from
watching our music video, focusing on her
puffer falling off her shoulder which could
look messy.
When without the puffer our main
character will attract male attention from
the female gaze.
I put Karla in an over sided
jumper and put a denim jacket on
the top as it adds a bit of colour.
The boots add edge and a rocker/
festival vibe. The denim jacket
gives a vintage aesthetic and the
light colour would work well in the
bright settings when filming.
We loved this look
overall but felt that it
gave off a more cute
girly aesthetic.
Although we are
making a video to a
pop video and this
would very much fit
well with the genre
we decided to go
with something
more rebellious.
This body con dress conveys
the message that our character
has a feminine side as well as
the hard wearing boots and
punk fishnets give off a harder
look. The colour of green
connotes energy and coincides
with the character throughout
our video as its very upbeat, fast
movements of the cutting to the
beat.
We decided on this as our final
outfit. Karla has a dress
underneath and oversized
jumper on top. The dress
under the jumper would work
well for the clubbing scene as
well as adding change of
costume with a more feminine
aspect. The jumper shows
how she has a tom boy style
and all back connotes
rebellion. The fishnet tights are
revealing and show that she
has a girly inside as well has a
hard exterior showing off her
legs and would appeal to a
target audience from the male
gaze.
