2. What are the conventions of your chosen genre?
The Genre we want our music video to be is pop as it is a genre all of our
group like and listen to. Here are the following conventions that
fundamentally make the genre recognisable to us as an audience.
In Pop music videos the following elements are very common to see:
• Dancing/ Dance routines
• The colours are normally bright and fun
• Lyrics are often romantic, concerned with love and finding the one
• Pop videos are upbeat and fast.
• Close- ups of the artist - The Artist could be in a close up whilst singing.
• Artists are costumed in clothing which is popular in the present society

There are many sub categories of pop music. I Have picked three of the most popular sub categories of pop
music
• K-pop- K-pop is a musical genre that originated in South Korea. Although it covers a lot of genres of
"popular music" within South Korea, the term is used more often than none to describe a modern form
of South Korean pop music. The rise in K pop’s popularity is due to the often interesting and unique
videos for the songs that have catapulted Korea into pop culture.
• Bubble-gum pop is a genre of pop that has the intent to be advertised at pre-teens and teenagers.
It is heavily produced by the music industry and often uses unknown singers. Bubble-gum's classic period
ran from 1967 to 1972.
• Pop Punk- Pop punk is a genre fusion music genre that combines elements of punk rock with elements
of pop music. Pop punk typically combines fast punk rock tempos, power chord changes and loud,
distorted electric guitars with pop-influenced melodies and lyrical themes.

In order for pop to be the recognisable genre it is, most pop videos should adhere to many
of these pop conventions. Elements like dancing and bright colours are things we heavily
want to feature in our own music video. The song “Me Too” By Meghan Trainor allows us to
create a bright and fun video due to the upbeat nature of the song. We are going to have
two narratives running throughout the song and dance routines will help us to connect these
adjacent characters together. The average women in the video (Rachel) will gain inspiration
from watching the Talent (Rene) performing the song.
