The software reviewed, Science Fair, was an educational game published over a decade ago that focuses on teaching elementary science concepts. While the graphics are outdated, it could still be an effective instructional tool. Using this game to teach science in schools across the country could promote both science learning and the English language. However, integrating Filipino culture would make the content more familiar and avoid feeling too westernized. Science Fair incorporates visuals, games, and audio to engage students and apply learning directly to activities, keeping their attention while teaching essential science lessons.

The software we reviewed, Science Fair, was an interesting game indeed.
Though it was published almost a decade ago, it still has its luster today since there is
only a handful of educational games for the elementary level that focus on the subject of
science. Aside from the comments we made during our report about it being too left
behind with regards to its graphics, it can be a very effective instructional medium for
elementary students.
If we would use this as a medium to teach children in all schools here in the
country, might it be public, or private, its success would depend on the English
curriculum. A bilingual approach may be helpful, although when it comes to being
practical, using English as a medium of instruction is like hitting two birds with one stone
as it would not only tackle Science lessons, but it would also promote the usage of the
English language. And to avoid being too westernized, the Filipino culture should be
integrated in the program to also promote our culture and to make the setting a lot more
at home and familiar.
Science Fair, as stated earlier, is a good medium to use as it covers the
essentials needed for an instructional medium to be effective. It integrates education
into visuals, games, and audio instead of the usual text-based learning. But sometimes,
this is also a problem as the students would be more focused on winning, but this still a
good strategy nonetheless. Since the learning is applied in the activities directly, getting
distracted by its components is not much of a problem with the software. And as it has a
lot of amusing visuals and audio, getting and keeping the students’ attention is trouble-
free. These qualities can make the game a must-have when teaching elementary
students science.
