THE ROLE OF CALL IN LEARNING AND
TEACHING
CALL is a branch of many activities that you can do, so it makes it difficult to
express it as a single idea. Because of the technology needs of the students
researchers had to develop new implements for language learning environment.
Now it is well used for language labs and interactive sites and services. However,
CALL is not that new as we think it is, we have been using technology to learn for
many years. A clear example of technology learning tools is the "Furby", which is
a animatronics pet that interacts with the emvarioment through sight, touch and
hearing physical orientations. This toy has his own language so that they can
interact with others and that is exactly what we do. It is proof that children who
played with these toys seem to listen and learn other languages better than
others. Now new technology is born and stays in workplace and ended up as toys.
So now old toys become smarter, new toys become possible, and they are
connected to CALL that at the same time it is connected to many disciplines and
the computer as a tool for learning. In the last decade CALL have developed new
materials such multimedia presentations; programming exercises and basic
textual GAP-filling, materials that were created to help learner’s development.
CALL has many overlapping and related terms but is technology driving, with
several new improvements in computers such as speed, storage and new
software’s but all this is in benefits of CALL students. The skills and contents that
the student need will be giving in their own in order to succeed in a language
learning classroom.
