The Macroeconomics of Unemployment In any economy, no matter whether it is
controlled by the government or by free markets, people need to work in order to
support it. The government does not generate tax revenue by magic. There have to
be people in that economy earning an income to ensure that the government
continues to collect taxes. In a free market economy, the same applies because
there are some services which only an organized government can supply (such as
protection from extra national threats), but there also those which the people get
for themselves because of the working of the markets. In any scenario,
unemployment is, at the very least, a drag on the economy, and it can be much
worse. This paper examines how the unemployment rate in the United States is
underreported, and how that fact effects the sluggishness of the present economy.
Unemployment is currently measured in the United States by counting those who
do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the prior four weeks, and are
currently available for work (Leonhardt). This means that a great deal of people
are not counted as unemployed because they are discouraged and have not looked
for work in the past four weeks. Or, the person was injured in some way and they
are not currently available for work. This does not mean that the people in either of
these groups do not actually wish to find work, but it does mean that they are not

Katelynn Bush and Isabella Mesete Dr. Duke AMH 2010 25 September 2017 The
Bulow Family In January of 1836 the Bulow Plantation, which was 4,675 acres,
was destroyed by Seminole Indians, but that s now where this story begins. This
story begins with a man who went by the name Major Charles Wilhelm Bulow, and
little did he know that everything he worked for would be destroyed in a mere 15
years. To begin our journey down history lane, we start with John Russell, a ship
builder. On July 28, 1812 John Russell in exchange for his ships, is granted by the
Spanish 4,675 acres of land. In 1814, tragedy struck, John Russell dies. While these
events were taking place, Baron Joachim Von Bulow, Charles Bulow s father would
purchase a townhouse in St. Augustine on April 6th, 1821. Baron Bulow was a
German immigrant who came to Charleston South Carolina, to establish the Lutheran
Church in America. After the death of John Russell, Mary Russell would eventually
sell the current day Bulow Plantation for $9,944.50 in August of 1812; she would sell
this land to Joachim Bulow. The development process of the Bulow Plantation, would
commence with a wealthy merchant from Charleston, South Carolina. Charles
Wilhelm Bulow at the prime age of 41 would obtain the land from his father; the
plantation would begin its development at this time. In August of 1821, to allow for
the initial part of development, Charles s brother would send slaves to help him
cultivate the plantation. His brother

an open minded, educated, and well rounded individual involve considering the
opinions of others and evaluating both sides of the argument, too often people
become complacent and lose the ability to think for themselves. The common term
that refers to this type of herd mentality is sheeple . The play, 12 Angry Men, and
NASA s Challenger disaster are two prime examples of the downfalls of groupthink.
Below, I will discuss both the helpful and harmful aspects of groupthink surrounding
both 12 Angry Men, and the Challenger disaster, as well as the effects of groupthink
on today s voting young adults.
In the play, 12 Angry Men, the vote was 11 1 in favor of a guilty verdictin the case
being tried. The one juror stood his ground, explained his theory as to why a guilty
verdict could not be delivered, and was unwavering in his stance. The jurors went
around the table twice, and ended with everyone siding with the original juror. As
the deliberations played out and jurors were questioned, some jurors were not able to
justify their guilty verdict, merely stating It just is . This statement shows the effect
of the groupthink mentality, especially since one juror was considerably vocal and
angered by the time being spent on deliberations. The logical discussions the other

Bobbie Ann Mason s Shiloh is a short story that takes place in Kentucky and
discuses several underlying messages and themes. The story follows the middle
class family of Leroy and Norma Jean Moffitt, with several other minor characters
such as Norma Jean s mother Mabel, and a boy named Stevie. The story questions
the notion that a married couple grows closer as time passes. However, it seems that
by the end of the story that Leroy and Norma Jean could not be further apart.
Throughout the story, the audience cannot help but to feel the tension in the
relationship which makes for an extremely uncomfortable situation between Leroy
and Norma Jean. There are several factors that lead to the downfall of their marriage
including several factors which relate to the theme of the story. Through the
character traits of Leroy and Norma Jean Moffitt and a third person limited point
of view, Mason examines how a change in identity of individuals and the instability
of gender roles in marriage leads to the demise of a relationship. Leroy Moffitt is a
truck driver who is almost fully recovered from his leg injury but is traumatized
from his wreck in Missouri three months earlier. He now spends his free time
crafting and casually driving around town. Leroy s character in Shiloh can be
described as a loving and sympathetic man but he is very passive when it comes to

In Ghana, West Africa, the fight against malaria has been on since the 1950 s
(Ghana Health Services, 2014). 3.5 million People contract malaria annually, with
25% of the death of children under the age of 5 tied to malaria (UNICEF, 2007).
The effect on malaria on life, economy and productivity is devastating and every
attempt aimed at controlling this epidemic is well targeted. Thus, for this project, we
are designing a PRECEDE PROCEED Model (PPM) targeted at malariacontrol in

up to an intervention program, it stands for Predisposing, Reinforcing, and Enabling
Constructs in Educational/Environmental Diagnosis and Evaluation. PROCEED, on

and Environmental Development, and, as its name implies, it describes how to
proceed with the intervention program. According to DiClemente, Salazar Crosby

After Katrina made landfall, Mississippi and Louisiana looked like a third world
country. With over 50 levee failures and numerous levee breaches causing severe
flooding in 80% of the city and 180,000 in structural damage the cities were faced
with a death toll of 1,300 casualties (Hurricane Katrina Rebuilding). Half the cities
were sitting under water, which made it hard for rescue missions, recovery and
evacuation organizations to be able to begin the recovery phase. What made it even

search and rescue and discovered that people who were trapped in their houses

Physiology of the Lungs There are several factors that oppose and promote alveolar
collapse, including the transmural pressure gradient, pulmonary surfactant, alveolar
interdependence (all opposing factors), alveolar surface tension and the elasticity of

these different aspects of lung physiology here. Transmural Pressure Gradient and
Elasticity of Stretched Pulmonary Connective Tissue Fibres There are three
important pressures involved in respiration. These are the atmospheric, intra
alveolar and intrapleural pressures. The atmospheric pressure sits relatively
constant at approximately 760mmHg, and is simply the pressure exerted by the
atmospheric air at sea level.1 The intra alveolar pressure is the pressure within the
alveoli, which varies in different stages of the respiratory cycle, but eventually
equates with the atmospheric pressure. Upon inspiration, the chest wall expands
outwardly and the diaphragm contracts downwards, pulling the lungs with them
and so forcing the alveoli open. The pressure within the alveoli falls and air enters
the lungs down the pressure gradient. On expiration, the diaphragm relaxes and the
chest wall and stretched lungs will recoil to their pre inspiratory size due to their
elastic properties. This recoil causes the intra alveolar pressure to rise and so air will
