The Franklin Public Schools K-12 Math Program overview discusses improving math instruction by aligning curriculum to state standards, emphasizing conceptual understanding and real-world application over rote learning. Elementary schools focus on guided math instruction using formative assessments and collaboration. Middle schools group students heterogeneously and facilitate teacher professional development on rigor and collaboration. The high school places students in courses based on criteria and emphasizes student-centered, collaborative learning using math practices. All levels aim to meet student needs and foster positive math attitudes through communication between teachers, students and families.

151119 rewriting leadership strategy the brilliance of black children in mat...Lou Matthews
After 15 years of stalemate mathematics reform to improve the mathematics outcomes of Bermuda’s predominantly Black student population, Bermuda Public Schools created a National Mathematics Strategy. The Strategy was built from the ground up to combat fundamental forces hindering the mathematics outcomes of Black children in the West: (1) Resistant worldviews about Black children, (2) faulty assumptions about what mathematics is, (3) faulty assumptions about how mathematics should be taught, (4) and institutionalized impotence of senior leadership to address policy, resources and systemic barriers. Chronicled in this presentation are the successes and challenges in implementing the kind of urgent reform needed to maximize outcomes for Black student populations amidst political, cultural and historical obstacles. The perspective of mathematics education leaders and professionals at senior, mid and teacher levels are shared.
My presentation from the ND Education Academy.
Many people think that we have a student learning problem in schools. I believe we have an adult learning problem. To truly increase student achievement it must start with the adults in the building. We must develop a culture of learning that begins with teachers and trickles down to students. In this session I will provide practical ideas that will help your district create a focus on learning.
Continuing the inclusion discussion with middle school teams as we focus on collaboration, class reviews, and changing our teaching strategies and structures to include all students.
Teaching teachers the best practices in Guided Math instruction. This presentation was delivered to staff at Powers Ferry Elementary School in Cobb County, GA. It helped teachers learn how to easily and effectively implement Guided Math into their math workshop model.
A full day session for middle and senior years ELA teachers with a focus on literature circles (no roles, changing groups) using Indigenous texts, including those on residential school experiences.
Schoolwide Change Through Improved Teacher Instructioncatapultlearn
Schoolwide change comes about through improved teacher instruction, but the role of the principal as the instructional leader is also central to this premise. Vibrant learning communities are developed when these roles work together. This two-part webinar will explore the principal’s role in providing the environment where student achievement is enhanced, then investigate how the teacher’s role is strengthened in providing sound and effective instruction, regardless of the standards that drive a school in its pursuit of excellence.
In this webinar, you will learn:
The universal, constant concepts to deliver effective student learning
How education resides in the culture of change
The Four Essential Skills for an Effective Learning Leader
The importance of communicating clear learning targets to students
How formative assessments drive effective instruction
How to enhance engagement and promote deeper understanding of content through student-centered learning environments

Why focus on teacher collaboration? Why inclusion? Beginning with a strengths-based class review process, create a plan of action wherein the classroom teacher and the specialist are working together. Consider models of co-teaching.
The idea of blended learning—combining digital curricula and tools with face-to-face instruction—for elementary grades is becoming more popular, and educators are finding it works particularly well in mathematics. Our guests will provide successful approaches for implementing this technique, including resources, strategies, and examples of instruction, as well as tips for modeling blended learning in elementary grade math.

Fusion 2012, the NWEA summer conference in Portland, Oregon
This session will describe the use of MAP data to identify struggling 9th grade math learners as well as track their growth after intensive and innovative intervention. We will discuss the process of setting up this intervention class as well as the structure and practices used in our classroom. We will provide examples of practices to incorporate into any existing class as well as make a case to include a more intensive intervention option within your school. Administrators and teachers interested in making significant progress for all learners, as measured by NWEA’s MAP test, should attend.
Learning Outcome:
- How to use data to measure progress in a high school math classroom
- How to positively impact student achievement within an existing school structure
- How to use data to identify the right students in need of intervention
Audience:
-District leadership
- Curriculum and Instruction
Wayzata School District #284 is a suburban district in Minnesota that has been administering MAP for 10 years at the elementary and middle school level. We first started using the MAP tests at the high school three years ago. We use the philosophy of Madeline Hunter to guide our instructional planning and have recently placed a district-wide emphasis on the creation and implementation of Professional Learning Communities. Our team includes a high school associate principal and two high school math teachers.
Webinar: Assessing to Inform Teaching and Learning: A Guide for LeadersDreamBox Learning
School and district-wide use of classroom-based formative assessment is an essential part of informing teacher planning and instruction, as well as meaningful student achievement. In this webinar, Francis (Skip) Fennell, L. Stanley Bowlsbey Professor of Education and Graduate and Professional Studies Emeritus, McDaniel College, shares a framework for school and district-based leaders to develop elements of leadership while establishing a grade-level or school-based learning community focusing on everyday use of formative assessment.
Topics include:
• Assessment literacy and the use of particular tools to guide and monitor the use of the formative assessment techniques presented
• How ongoing, everyday use of the “Formative 5” intersects with summative assessment data and frame assessment decisions
• A leadership framework to guide successful implementation of the “Formative 5,” including coaching, navigating relationships, learning communities and adult learners
All school and district-based leaders, and K-12 educators are invited to watch this recorded webinar.

Empowering Teacher Agency: How Data-Driven PD Models are Improving K-5 Math A...DreamBox Learning
Just as teachers struggle to find time and resources that support differentiation and personalization for every student in math class, administrators struggle to provide differentiated professional learning options for teachers that are relevant to their classroom and easily accessible.
To improve elementary student achievement in math, district administrators must explore innovative approaches to professional development that improve teachers’ understanding of mathematics concepts. In this webinar, Dr. Tim Hudson, VP of Learning at DreamBox Learning shared how to:
Adopt a new model of online professional learning that empowers teachers to use real-time student data to access “just in time” professional learning resources that are specific to their students and classrooms.
Implement best practices for driving teacher agency in PD, such as empowering teachers to use data to choose PD topics that address the real challenges in their classrooms.
Ensure equitable learning outcomes for all students in mathematics by also ensuring equitable professional learning outcomes for all mathematics teachers.

Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
