Lion King Research Paper
As a child I was a huge The Lion King fan from my bedroom theme to my lunchbox was The
Lion King related, I remember my mother leaving the television on with the Lion King movie
playing sometimes to put me to sleep. A few years ago I took my niece s and nephew which like
myself are huge Fan of the movie to the Broadway musical The Lion King.
The musical opened with The Circle Of Life song this brought a nostalgic feeling immediately,
the costumes of all the animals and how they were being play were creative and beautiful.
Animals From monkeys to giraffes were shown, I liked how the animals came from the side aisle
which allowed the audience and up close and personal view. Characters like Big Simba, Timon and

Especially in the Flint Hills, the careful yearly smoldering of endless territories of tallgrass
prairie connected with serious, early steers eating in May, June, and July leaves few spots for
ground settling fowls like prairie chickens to effectively settle. Greater prominent prairie chicken
populaces in the Flint Hills have declined altogether since this touching framework got to be
boundless. Be that as it may, less successive smoldering, in a perfect world once in 3 years or
twice in 5 years, is basic to the strength of the prairie and for prairie chickens. Perhaps a greater
genuine risk to greater prominent prairie chickens and other meadow winged animals is the
spread of intrusive trees like eastern red cedar, Osage orange, and others into parts of our Kansas
prairies ( read greater: Tree Invasion). Humorously, this has come about because of too little use of
controlled smoldering in a few districts and from disappointment of area administrators to rapidly
perceive and react to the danger tree intrusion stances to prairie, domesticated animals creation, and

The Legal Position And Right Of Residents
3.3BSECURITY OF TENURE
The legal position and right of residents in different tenures vary considerably. Both owner
occupiers and social renters have significant legal rights that are not usually available to tenants in
the PRS (Tenure Trends in the UK Housing System, 2010).
As mentioned previously, at about the start of the 20th century during the First World War, rent
controls were put in place to limit the initial rent that a landlord could charge as well as any
subsequent increase in response to housing shortages. The Rents Act 1915 was passed to provide
security of tenure and to restrict rents in the PRS and remained in play for most of the 20th century.
The rent acts contributed as a significant interference with the property ... Show more content on

Though around the middle of the 20th century where security of tenure was still strong in the PRS,
there were scurrilous landlords that would evict tenants unlawfully, a prime example being Peter
Rachman, he was known for his exploitation and intimidation of his tenants. In response to the
Rachman scandal the Eviction Act 1964 was passed in an attempt to deal with similar problems.
The PRS underwent a mini revival during the 1990s due to a combinations of factors, such as
changes to tenancy arrangement in the 1988 and 1996 Housing acts, the availability of housing
benefits and the state of home owning market (Stuart Lowe, 2004).
With the introduction of the Assured Short hold Tenancy (AST) in the Housing Act 1988, granted
the landlord the right to guaranteed possession after the initial six month period, in other words
giving landlords stronger rights. The Housing Act 1996 furthered strengthened a landlord s position
by making AST the default tenancy except expressed. The Act defines several criteria for an AST to
be set up e.g. the property must be set as separate accommodation, the property must be the tenant s
main home, the tenant should be an individual, thus there are uncertainties that the AST s lack of
security creates long term problems for tenants. Therefore a landlord may choose to evict the

Marriage in Ancient Roman Culture
Every culture has marriage rituals that help differentiate them from each other. Traditions and
customs in ancient Roman wedding etiquette was not very different from bridal etiquette today.
Their wedding customs have actually set the basis for many modern weddings today. However,
there were some customs that were very important to the Romans that do not completely relate to
modern customs. An engagement ring, the choice of which date and location, the dressing of the
bride, and the legalizing of the marriageitself were all important to the Ancient Roman culture.
Before the actual wedding took place, several things had to happen. The bride had to get engaged.

It s also thought that the Romans were the first to engrave their rings.
The day of the wedding was chosen with great care, to prevent any bad omens. The Romans
were very superstitious, and had to assure that no bad luck should fall on the date of marriage.
The months of May and February were considered months of mourning, so no marriages took
place during those months. Specific days were forbidden as well. Kalends (the first of the
month), Nones (the fifth of the month), and Ides (the fifteenth of the month) were horrible days
for weddings. Many people have heard the expression, Beware the Ides of March. It is known for
being an ill fated day because Julius Caesar was assassinated on this date in 44 B.C.
The morning of the wedding day, the bride had to rise early to pick flowers from her parent s
garden to weave a crown to hold her veil in place. The flowers were said to be a symbol of
innocence and purity. She would wear a flammeum (the wedding veil), which was considered to
be a part of the wedding dress. The flammeum was the bride s rectangular, enveloping veil, which
left her face uncovered. Flammeum means flame, so some believed it was red. However, the veil
was dyed a very deep yellow, much like the flame of a candle. The wedding dress was very special
and only worn once, much like the modern customs today. The bride would wear a wool robe of
pure white. Wool was chosen as a lucky fabric to ward off evil. Around the waist

Safety Of Food And Drugs Consumption
Safety in food and drugs consumption is a necessity to consumers. It is the FDA s responsibility to

United States, with ingredients from domestic sources. Imports of FDA regulated products
were so small they were barely noticed by the FDA . Medical devices were not even under FDA
s jurisdiction, since the 1938 law didn t refer to medical devices (About FDA). It would be
another almost forty years, in 1976, before FDA was given authority to regulate devices (About
FDA). The Food and Drug Administration has been able to get warning labels in the drugs, food,

In the early stage of the Food and Drug Administration there has been changes in many ways that
have helped the public. One of the ways the FDA improved is by working with scientist,
ensuring the safety of a product that is in a stable and reliable market demonstrating benefits that
outweigh the risks (About FDA). Before conditions in the U.S. food and drug industries a century
ago can hardly be imagined today. Use of chemical preservatives and toxic colors was virtually
uncontrolled (About FDA). Changes from an agricultural to an industrial economy had made it
necessary to provide the rapidly increasing city population with food from distant areas (About

Keurig s Swot Analysis (2008)
Keurig s strategy continues to be differentiation. The company has managed to outperform its
competitors by offering high quality single cup coffee brewers and a wide variety of coffee portion
packs called K Cups. Users of Keurig brewers can enjoy a cup of great tasting coffee, tea or hot
cocoa every time. The cup of coffeeis brewed in less than a minute, there is no need to grind coffee
or use filters, and cleaning up is as easy as it gets. Keurigbrewers use coffee portion packs called K
Cups. There are over 200 different blends and flavors available from 13 brands, including Newman

The additional revenue generated by the additional sale of K Cups would offset the losses
incurred by lowering the prices of the brewers. Another opportunity that Keurig could take
advantage of is to license additional coffee roasting companies to package their products in K
Cups. Keurig s revenues would increase as a result of the increased royalties paid by the licensed
roasters, and the increase in variety may motivate more coffee consumers to purchase a Keurig
single cup brewer. Additionally, Keurig could seek to increase the number of office coffee system
distributors that distribute Keurig s products. Lastly, Keurig could effectively publicize its
involvement with socially and environmentally responsible causes in order to improve brand image
and increase brand awareness.
Threats
The most obvious threat right now is the difficult consumer economy that may lead consumers to
cut back on their spending causing a decrease in demand for Keurig s premium priced products.
The price fluctuations of coffee represent another threat to Keurig s competitiveness. In May
2008, Green Mountain Coffee implemented its first prices increase since 2005. The 8 to 12
percent increase on coffee products was the result of several factors, including a sharp escalation in
the price of green coffee, increases in other raw materials, and higher energy and fuel costs. Keurig

What Is Dimmesdale A Hypocrisy Of Sin
Life oftentimes presents multiple individuals with a shared obstacle, but the method which each
person uses in order to overcome is pivotal in determining each person s fate. In Boston,
Massachusetts during the 17th century, a cluster of men and women move away from the Old
world and quickly become known as the Puritansociety. The Puritan people leave in order to gain
freedoms yet formulate a hypercritical society based on strict conformity and theocracy. The
common members of the group appear bleek and monotonous as they dress and act the same as one
another. The society desires a perfect utopia, severely punishing and treating those who commit sin
as criminals. The society ultimately becomes one of ignorance, hypocrisy, and isolation... Show

Both characters are put down by their own struggles but naturally learn very different lessons.
Dimmesdale slowly but surely begins to understand how severe the damages of his guilt, hiding,
and hypocrisy are to his soul. He goes through intense episodes of self harm and abuse as he lives
with Chillingworth, the evil physician who acts as a catalyst to strengthening the grief and guilt
that shadows poor Dimmesdale. After seven long years of hiding his sin and relationship with
Hester from the public, Dimmesdale realizes how absurd his decision to conceal his struggle is.
While conversing with Hester in the shadowy forest, free from Puritan judgement, Dimmesdale
exclaims, Else, I should long ago have thrown off these garments of mock holiness, and have
shown myself to mankind as they will see me at the judgment seat. Happy are you, Hester, that
wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns in secret! (Hawthorne 167).
Dimmesdale is finally brought to his senses when he reveals his admiration for Hester s bravery
in being accountable for the sin. He realizes that if he could have adopted his sin upon the scaffold
as hester does seven years prior, he would be much better off. While Dimmesdale sees Hester
embracing her sin, he feels that she has put herself through much

6.How useful was the Gantt chart in planning and tracking your group s progress through the

I think the Gantt chart was a good resource and very interesting but I think it wasn t totally

were also on top of their work and knew the deadlines. On the other hand I can see how a Gantt

10.How well did your group stay within budget of $20 per person? Was this reasonable? How
could you have ensured you stayed within or under budget?
Our group did manage to stay mostly within the $60 but a bit of the items came out of our own
pockets. I think the $60 was a good amount but it was very difficult to stay within that amount. I
think to $60 was also good because it helped keep the groups on the same page. So a group with a
lot of money couldn t go over the top to much. It kept everyone on the same level.
We ensured that we stayed within the budget by shopping around and finding the cheapest price on
all the items we needed. Also we prioritise on what had to be bought and what we could source
from home.
11.Were you personally kept aware of your group s financial position throughout the production
phase? Explain.
Even though I was not the encharge of overseeing the finance side of things I did have a big role
in it. I calculated what was needed and where we could get the best price for it. I did the big shop
and sourced most of the items. The financial planner Charlotte mad sure she kept the whole group
aware of the budget. I would say that I was kept aware of the group s financial position.

Explain How The SRMS Changed The Capabilities Of The...
The creation of the SRMS changed the capabilities of the United States space program. Before the
system, everything which needed to be captured required risky docking maneuvers involving highly
trained pilots. With the advent of the system, the Space Shuttle only required close proximity and
allowed the SRMS to perform the delicate movements needed to capture and release objects near
the Space Shuttle.
The entire system was innovative for space capabilities, but it also changed robotics on Earth at
the same time. The first thing the SRMS brought to the space program was the space robotics
which did not exist before it was launched20. The proof of concept set the standard for all future
robotics equipment in space. In addition, the earlier design choices to engineer the system like the
human arm in control were part of a paradigm shift in robotics which has permeated the area
robotics21.
In addition to changing technology, the creation of the SRMS had a major impact on relations
between the United States and Canada in terms of space. First, the deal to develop the system
included the United States providing preferential access to Canada to help build its space
program22. The preferential treatment opened access to space unlike any other non space faring
nation on Earth. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

maneuverable, and able to traverse the station among other things23. Since the inclusion of the
improved version, the system has again proven invaluable providing a method to capture docking

Types And Types Of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), also known as non insulin dependent DM, is a
chronic metabolic disorder characterized by certain symptoms such as hyperglycemia, insulin
resistance, and relative insulin deficiency [1]. Genetic, environmental and behavioural risk
factors are considered responsible for the predisposition of T2DM [2]. With the progression of
this disease, the patient eventually develops various short and long term complications. Thus, the
patient has to undergo multiple therapies, which reduces the quality of life as well as the life
expectancy [3]. The demographic data suggests that more than 400 million of population, across
the globe are currently suffering from this disease. In 2012, the death toll is upto 1.5 million due
to T2DM and 2.2 million people died due to high blood glucose level [4]. The major problem with
this disease is that it cannot be completely cured, but the symptoms and complications can be
controlled with diet, exercise, medicines and health monitoring. This subsequently lands the patient
on lifetime medication that involves a huge cost. In 2012, the American Diabetes Association
released a letter suggesting an annual expenditure of $245 billion for diabetes, which includes a
direct medical cost of $176 billion and $69 billion in reduced productivity [5]. In order to avoid
and delay the short and long term complications, the patients are prescribed with multiple treatment
modalities such as oral hypoglycemic drugs and

Organizational Culture Is The Unspoken, Informal Awareness
Organizational Culture Organizational culture is the unspoken, informal awareness that both
guides employees behaviors, and creates their behaviors, according to Stacey and Triandis (as cited
in Ginter, Duncan, Swayne, 2013, p. 349). We must recognize that there is a causal relationship
between organizational culture and employees actual behaviors. Ginter et al. (2013) explains that
an organization creates mission, vision, and value statements to make clear, to project their image
of who they are, what they want to accomplish, and how employees are expected to behave. When
employees are in agreement with these elements, the organization can say this is their shared
assumptions. On the other hand, shared values represent employees perceptions of how things
should be done, which may or may not, be in harmony with how the organization cares to portray
itself. Whether aligned or misaligned, it is nevertheless the actual behaviors that create
organizational culture. These behavioral patterns can stem from strategies that employees espouse
as a means of surviving in the organization (Cooke Rousseau, as cited in Rovithis et al., 2016, p.2).
This paper discusses the powerful impact an organizational culture can have on strategic
development. Examples are provided on how culture can contribute or hinder success within one
organization, McLean Hospital. McLean Hospital is a psychiatric healthcare organization that uses
both a divisional structure, and a matrix structure for

BaconВґs Rebellion Infleunce on Jamestown
Bacon s Rebellion is considered to be one of the most confusing and fascinating part Jamestown
s history. The main parties involved in Bacon s Rebellion were complete opposites and oddly
enough cousins by marriage. Governor Sir William Berkeley was a veteran of the English Civil
Wars, a frontier Indian fighter, a Governor in the 1640 s, a playwright and scholar. Sir William
Berkeleys reputation as Governor of Virginia was well respected. The other member involved was
Nathaniel Bacon. Bacon was a known as a troublemaker and conspirator whose father sent him to
Virginia with the hope that he would mature. Bacon was intelligent and moving and once Bacon
arrived in Virginia, Berkeley treated him with respect and friendship. Berkeley granted him both
substantial land grant and a seat on the council in 1675.
The Virginia colony was experiencing economic problems, such as declining tobacco prices,
growing commercial competition from Maryland and the Carolinas, a restricted English market, the
rising prices from English manufactured goods, and disturbances made by the Indians. There were
also English losses in the series of naval wars with the Dutch and there were numerous problems
caused by weather. Storms and dry spells plagued the colony and had a damaging effect on the
colonists which encouraged the colonists to find people they could vent their frustrations and place
the blame for their misfortunes.

Caillebotte Paris Street A Rainy Day
There are numerous clichГ© statements regarding art, such as A picture is worth a thousand

paintings depicting a rainy day in the late 19th Century. The first painting titled Paris Street; A
Rainy Day (1877) is by Gustave Caillebotte and the second is by Childe Hassam titled A Rainy
Day on Fifth Avenue (1893). By first glance, both paintings have some obvious similarities, most
notable being people walking in the rain with horse drawn carriages in the background, but given
the period the paintings may have very different interpretations by the viewer. The two artists use
very different paintingstyles depicting their ideas of a rainy day. Caillebotte uses the... Show more

The streets are cobbled, the afternoon sky is cloud covered and shows a subtle gradation from
rose gray near the horizon to a cool gray toward the top, and everyone is walking under
umbrellas. Many characters look as if they are out for a leisurely stroll, shopping, or just taking
in the sights. Men wear top hats and long tailed coats while the women wear full length dresses,
all symbolic of the late 19th century. The artist used deep colors, making the painting appear
darker; perhaps to evoke the feeling of a rainy day or that it is sometime between late afternoon
and early evening. It is interesting to note that a fashionably dressed Parisian couple (a man and a
woman) in the foreground of the painting is walking toward the viewer. They are portrayed in
sharper detail than others are, while objects further away have fewer distinguishing features. This
is especially noticeable when viewing the buildings; immediately you notice the painting blurs the

The Three Trunks Of The Plexus
Rick Winstead
Steve Hammons
PTA 150
2/13/15
Brachial Plexus At first glance, the brachial plexus may be a bit intimidating. The nerves arising
from it and the muscles of the trunk and upper extremity of which it innervates may seem
overwhelming, but as one begins the process of adding all of the components together in an
orderly fashion, it begins to be seen in a much more easily understood manner. The first step in
this process is to gain a grasp on the basic main structure of the plexus, and then gradually build
on that foundation. The basic organization is split into five areas. These are the roots, trunks,
divisions, cords, and terminal branches. The five roots originate from spinal nerves C5, C6, C7,
C8, and T1. It is important to remember that these five areas contain both motor and sensory
components. Next are the three trunks of the plexus. The roots of C5 and C6 combine to form the
upper trunk, C7 continues on its own to form the middle trunk, and the lower trunk is formed by
C8 and T1. Each trunk then divides into an anterior and posterior division. The divisions then
combine to form cords. The anterior divisions of the upper and middle trunk combine to form the
lateral cord, the anterior division of the lower trunk forms the medial cord, and all three posterior
divisions combine to make the posterior cord. Finally, the cords give way to the terminal branches
of the brachial plexus. The lateral cord splits and becomes the musculocutaneous nerve, and a

The Creation Of The Wall Of China
The creation of the wall of China was the most spectacular construction project of all time. It is
the most spectacular because of the amount of people who worked on it, the length of the wall,
and the time period it was built in. The wall of china was built to keep the Chinese in, and the rest
of the world out. It was built under the rule of emperor Shi Huangdi. The creation of the Great Wall
of Chinawas actually the linking of walls that were already built by other kingdoms. It was built
after the unification of china in the beginning of the Qin Dynasty (221 206 BC). It was a massive
construction project in which a lot of time was invested, and in which many suffered. It was the
most ambitious engineering project ever conceived. This extraordinary project could have never
been built without the unification of China. Before china was unified, everything was chaotic and
disastrous. Previous to the unification of china, I don t think people could have come together to
build a wall as such. China was made up of a number of states each fighting for supremacy. There
were a number of wars going on between the different states and neither was successful. It wasn t
until the Qin kingdom rose and destroyed the other kingdoms. They destroyed most of the
kingdoms but one was still left, they were called the Chu. They fought with them for about fifteen
year and then they finally surrendered. They were ruthless and ambitious therefore the only one
who could have unified China. Two

The Beginnings of Santa Claus The evolution of the figure known as Santa Claus can be traced
through religious, mythological, and cultural portrayals all the way back to the fourth century. It is
amazing how the legend of Santa Claus has grown and evolved throughout history. And even more
exciting how he has became a modern day icon during the Christmasseason. What do you think of

it was said that his body gave off a sweet smelling scent. This kept his boy incorrupt and cured the
sick. His remains were taken to Bari, Italy in 1087 where it was said to still perform miracles. The
pure spirit and intentions of Saint Nicholas are to thank those for inspiring the Christmas holiday.
To begin with, Saint Nicholas that was his name to start with is about the most overworked saint
who ever existed (Myers). All of this hard work and dedications made Nicholas stand out and
held influence over our beloved image of Santa Claus. Saint Nicholas is one of the many
characters that bloomed into Santa Claus. However, some of the legendary figures are fictional.
One interpretation of Santa Claus is displayed by L. Frank Baum in The Life and Adventures of
Santa Claus. In this story, Santa Claus was a child left in the wood and was force to grow up
among the immortal creatures of the surrounding forest of Burzee. The abandoned baby was

The Decameron was named after one of Songsong s favorite books written by Giovanni Boccaccio
in the mid 14th century that consisted of a collection of 100 stories told by 10 different
characters over 10 days. The significances of this stories are that they all surround the similar
theme. Songsong used Boccaccio s concept and applied to his work by interpreting an outsourced
public photo of the 2004 National People s Congress. Songsong enlarged the NPC 2004 photo and
cut it into 10 sections and painted each section individually. When placed together the original
photo could be seen at a larger scale. Songsong s second piece is Cuban Sugar which is a
representation of an image of when China went through a domestic sugar cane production. Its titled
the Cuban Sugar as a representation of this event reflecting the political conflict of interest through
fractured independent sections of the full piece of work. Completing Songsong s painting are
individual sections within the painting with different texture and color, suggesting a layered and
disjoint between China and Cuba and their historical interpretation.
The second artist featured in this exhibition with amazing art pieces inspired by his childhood
memories and materials is, Mark Bradford. Bradford was born in Southern California in what is
considered the hood of California. Bradford has received both Bachelor and Master in Fine Arts
from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.

Blockbuster Vs Netflix
After the creation of Netflix in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph, it has overtaken our
society with the vast amount of usage. The amount of users has continued to rise with the
development of faster computers and online streaming. In the beginning of the Netflix company,
subscribers were only allowed to rent movies three at a time and have them delivered via mail to
their homes. This initial start gave Netflix a huge boost in the movie industry because before this
viewers had to go to movie rental places to rent movies. One other company that gave Netflix
competition was Blockbuster, which was founded in 1985. Much like Netflix in the starting stages,
Blockbuster allowed customers to rent movies online and have them delivered to their... Show more

Finally, by 2007 Netflix introduced online streaming, which allowed subscribers to watch
television episodes and movies instantly on their private computers. In the following years,
Netflix made it possible to watch shows via gaming systems like Wii, Xbox, and PlayStation.
After going to gaming systems, Netflix then became available on hand held devices like the
Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch by 2010. (pr.netflix.com) These major changes to the
company spiked the number of subscribers that Netflix was getting. Not only can viewers watch
shows instantly, but they can watch them on the go and from anywhere. In 2011, Netflix
subscribers reached 22.9 million and have continued to increase to 69.1 million in 2015.
(statista.com) Netflix has yet to see a decrease in the number of users from year to year, but they
see a steady increase each year. The continuous growth of users can be attributed to many things.
The way Netflix stays current with all the emerging technology makes it easier for subscribers to
enjoy their shows whenever they want to. Each Netflix account can be used on a number of
different devices, which allows families to share an account. Several family members can be
watching different shows on Netflix at the same time. All of these factors make Netflix a more user

Myth of Propaganda in the Balkans and Rwanda Essay
Mass Manipulation and Genocide:
The Myth of Propaganda in the Balkans and Rwanda
War and conquest have been among the most enduring traits of humankind throughout the ages.
While we would all like to believe that we are, by nature, a peaceful species, we still understand
there are some things worth fighting for, and given the appropriate context, there are some things
worth killing for. As reasoning beings, we hope that if violence is the only option it is for a clear
and legitimate purpose. That is why it was so confounding to hear of such heinous acts of senseless
violence as stories from Germany began to emerge after World War II. The world shuddered as the
actions of Hitler s henchmen attempting to eradicate entire ethnic groups ... Show more content on

Indeed, the propaganda employed through various media was instrumental in the rise of nationalism
and the fomenting of fear and ethnic hatred in the Balkans and in Rwanda. It is clear that
propaganda is a powerful tool and its implementation played a significant role in these conflicts,
but the extent of that role is less certain. Does propaganda alone have the power to incite genocide
and ethnic cleansing? Are certain media more effective in achieving extremist goals than others?
Could we stop genocides before they start by identifying and targeting outlets of propaganda? As
this paper will demonstrate, the social, political and economic climates of nations in question in
this case, Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia determine how effective state sponsored propaganda
is at crystallizing divisions among people and inspiring one group to attempt to eradicate another.
Before we can understand how propaganda operates, it is important to define exactly what we
mean by propaganda. The term itself dates back to 1622 when Pope Gregory XV established a
papal bull with the title Sacra Congregatio de Propaganda Fedei, an effort to counter the Protestant
movement. Thus from its inception, propaganda was employed to establish a sense of otherness
within populations, inspiring negative reactions among Protestants and positive feelings among

Analysis Of Henry David Thoreau s Walden
Henry David Thoreau will go down in history as one of the greatest influential writer s and
philosophers in American history. Not only was he a smart and intelligent man, but he had such
wisdom and determination when he looked at every aspect of life. Thoreau was just an ordinary
individual from Concord, which helped the readers relate to him on a more personal level when
they read his work. In Thoreau s Walden, he wanted the reader to understand that you should live
life more simple, connect with nature so you can connect with God, and live your life working
hard so you do not have to solely rely on anyone.
Thoreau moved and lived in the woods for two years to simply live simpler. Before Thoreau
moved into the woods, he had been living in Concord, Massachusetts. Young Thoreau, then in his
late 20s, had tried to live as others lived as a schoolmaster, a private tutor, a surveyor, a gardener,
a farmer, a house painter, a carpenter, a mason, a day laborer, a pencil maker, a glass paper
maker, a writer, and sometimes a poetaster, by his own reckoning but had found those careers
wanting. The mass of men, he wrote, lead lives of quiet desperation. He was determined not to
be one of them. (Christian Science Monitor) Thoreau wanted to find his place in the world, he
wanted to find his purpose. Thoreau once said, I went to the woods because I wished to live life
deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach,

Feminism In Desiree s Baby
Kate Chopin s Desiree s Baby is a short story about a girl named Desiree who is abandoned, then
adopted into a wealthy family. Young Desiree soon grows up and falls in love with a slave
owner, Armand, with whom she conceives a son with only to discover that her child s appearance
consists of African descent characteristics. Chopin narrates the issues of oppression and loss of
identity during a historical period of time through Desiree s character. Derek Foster and Kris
LeJeune s critique, focusing on the feminist standpoint of Desiree s Baby, attempts to demonstrates
how Desiree s act to flee into the bayou is her first accomplishment of independence.

Foster and LeJeune s critique discloses the idea that Desiree s flee into the bayou is her first act
of independence since she had been with Armand. Chopin presents Desiree as a character
illustrated how the human spirit often suffers from powerlessness. (Short Story Criticism, vol.171
Foster and LeJeune,pg 155) From the time that Desiree and Armand tied the knot, she was no
longer her own person, but solely Armands property. Armand never calls Desiree by name; thus ,
he never affords her a title. (Short Story Criticism, vol.171 Foster and LeJeune,pg 155) This
emphasizes the Desiree s identity becomes lost within the male s identity even moreso once Desiree
bares Armand s child which shows African Americancharacteristics. The idea of Armand s child
not being purely white, altered Armand s character towards Desiree which left Desiree with no
choice other than to leave his side with her child. As Chopin narrates: She [Desiree] disappeared
among the reeds and willows that grew thick along the banks of the deep, sluggish bayou: and
she did not come back again. ( Short Story Criticism, vol.171 Foster and LeJeune,pg 157) Foster
and LeJeune stated It is by fleeing that she avoids such loss when she escapes to the reeds and
willows . ( Short Story Criticism, vol.171 Foster and Jeune,pg 157) This insinuates that Desiree s
choice to leave, was a her choice to disembark her state of oppression and embark on her new life

Martin Luther Research Paper
You don t need a sociology degree to understand movements calcify into institutions, then decay and
crumble. So as we near the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther s nailing 95 thesis to a church door,
why is the Reformation still a global movement?
In Africa today there are more than twice as many Lutherans than in the United States. Even in
America God continues to bring new people to faith and transform the lives of His followers
I m convinced the movement is fueled by a relationship. A quote of Luther started me down this
path:
Though I lived as a religious leader without reproach, I felt, with the most disturbed conscience
imaginable, that I was a sinner before God. I did not love, indeed I hated the righteous God who
punishes sinners.

People are born in sin but have no legitimate way to atone for those sins. Unfair treatment angers a
lot of people, especially people like Luther who desperately try to play by the rules.
I think the Roman Catholic teaching struck a much deeper chord in Luther. We all long for the
affirmation of our fathers. We also have a deep need for acceptance by our Heavenly Father.
According to the Church, Luther was never certain he would receive the favor of the Heavenly
Father, let alone enter heaven. This was devastating.
Much is made of the three solas of the Reformation: Scripture alone, Grace alone and Faith alone. I
am not convinced even when taken together these three were enough to fuel a movement that has
lasted almost half a millennium.
Instead, I think the three solas were indispensable as conditions for the catalyst of the movement.
Luther himself can show us the Reformation s spark. He spent a lifetime longing for acceptance by
God the Father, yet was convinced this is impossible. Salvation by God s grace through faith in Jesus
was a revelation to Luther. I mean this

Architect of the Byzantine Legacy Essay examples
Architect of the Byzantine Legacy
Byzantine Emperor Justinian was the bold architect of a revitalized Byzantine Empire that would
leave a lasting legacy for Western Civilization. As much of Europe entered the Dark Ages,
Justinian s vision of a restored Roman Empire would reverse the decline of the Byzantine Empire
and lay a firm foundation that would allow the Byzantine Empire to survive for centuries to come.
Justinian, whose full name was Flavius Anicius Julianus Justinianus, was born around 483 AD at
Tauresium in Illyricum in the Balkans of present day central Europe. He was the nephew of
Byzantine Emperor Justin, the son of Justin s sister Vigilantia (Fortescue).

Rome would become the capital of the Empire s western territories, while the city of Byzantium
(present day Istanbul in modern day Turkey) was renamed Constantinople and made the new capital
of the Roman Empire (Bury 69).
From its peak under the Roman Emperors Constantine and Diocletian in the 300 s, Rome
importance in the Empire began to shrink. The commercial and cultural growth of the provinces in
Greece and the Near East had eclipsed the once robust culture of Rome, where growing trade with
the Far East was creating new wealth. The Christian emperors felt more at home in the East, where
Christianity, the new official religion of the Roman Empire, was stronger and closer to its roots in
Palestine, rather than in the more pagan West (Norwich 11).
Forced from their homelands in Central and Eastern Europe by the savagery of the invading Huns,
Germanic barbarian tribes invaded the western territories of the Empire. Under constant attack, the
western Empire began to shrink, losing centuries worth of territorial gains in Britain, Gaul, Spain,
and North Africa to the barbarian tribes, while the eastern territories remained strong, vital and
secure. In 378, they dealt the Roman Empire a major blow at the Battle of Adrianople (now Edirne
in modern day European Turkey), near Constantinople. In

As we discussed earlier, the voice ranges that Britten chooses in this particular opera is very
interesting. Britten expanded the voice range in all voices in order to allow the listener to have a
better understanding in characters. As Godsalve said ...four special things stand out in setting
voices; the assignment of voice classes to roles, the use of recitative and aria, textual changes, and
the combination of two or more voices... 1 (156). Britten is very aware of all these changes and

It shows that in order to create power and difference between human and immortal, by using

him to have a high voice sound quality which is best fit with the creature that have magical

and also abilities to create without any restrictions. On the other hand, because Tytania represent

Essay about Affirmative Action is Not Reverse Discrimination
Affirmative Action is Not Reverse Discrimination
Affirmative Action is not meant to help blacks because of the color of their skin, but because they
deserve compensation for past and continuing injustices. Opponents may criticize the wisdom of
how this compensation is meted out, but they cannot question the principle of compensatory
damages, which enjoys a long tradition in our society.
To many opponents of affirmative action, a color blind society should not discriminate at hiring
time on the basis of color, sex, etc. This would make the preferential hiring of blacks just as wrong
as preferential hiring of whites.
Furthermore, opponents claim, the introduction of past injustices does not change this logic. If
blacks were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The situation is akin to the Jews who survived the Holocaust. Germany paid a large sum in
compensatory damages to the state of Israel after World War II, and no one decried this as reverse
racial discrimination.
Now, opponents of affirmative action may question whether affirmative action is the right way to
go about correcting past and present injustice. For example, can we compensate the living for sins
committed against their ancestors? Is it right to compensate groups instead of specifically harmed
individuals? But these are separate issues, ones that should be addressed elsewhere. (The reader
may find them in the next essay.) The point here is that affirmative action is intended not as reverse
discrimination, but as compensatory damages for injustice.
Moral absolutism
Those who use the term reverse descrimination are actually engaging in moral absolutism, a
completely unworkable concept that has never been practiced by any society in history. An
example may best highlight its difficulties. Suppose our society passed a law that says, No one
shall forcefully take a television set from the possession of another. But the next day your neighbor
comes over to your house with a gun and forcefully takes your television set from you. Having
identified your neighbor, you call the police. The police show up at his door and demand that he

Towel Hut * Too much responsibility: It is no longer a towel hut. It covers not only distributing and
collecting towels but also explaining policy, taking reservations and managing palapas and
customers complaints and so on.
Recommended Solutions and Justification * Increasing the supply: The resort could provide
more palapas so that more quests can have opportunity to enjoy it. However I assume that there
could be a limitation of installing palapas by government (such as not to damage the nature).
There is no information regarding government s permission. If so, they should offer alternatives
for customers. The alternatives could be canopies or beach umbrellas. However, these should be
provided free. * Abandoning the first come, first served system: All palapas should be rented so
that some customers who choose not to pay for palapas would not feel frustrated or slighted and
it is fairer for every customer to pay for them and no one needs to line up and waste time. *
Consistent and reliable pricing strategy: The Price system should be an hourly basis not daily. For
instance, the resort charges $8 / hour for the use of a palapa. The resort needs to optimize their

Three Main Ideas From The Communist Manifesto
Foundations of Sociology essay (Soc 10010)
Describe the three main ideas from the Communist Manifesto.
In this essay I will discuss three of the main ideas from Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto . I
have chosen to look at class struggles, the abolishment of private property and the idea that states
look after the dominant classes in societies. I chose these as I found them to be the three main
ideas that stood out to me most after reading the book. I have delved into each one and shown why
I think they are the three main ideas. I found them to be very interesting ideas which Marx has
communicated very well.
Class struggles are a key idea in Marx s Communist Manifesto . Marx opens his Manifesto with the

There are never really major reforms to help all, after revolutions. The bourgeoisie, in France, had
been oppressed and after overthrowing the very distinct upper class they now held the power.
During the revolution they campaigned for liberty, equality and fraternity. This did not materialise
afterwards as stated by Marx:
The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done
away with class antagonisms. It has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression,
new forms of struggle in place of the old ones. Marx (1848, p.74)
Marx proves that even when societies have fought for something like freedom, it does not always
last. The bourgeois brought in capitalism, which brought freedom, but it brought freedom to the
bourgeois and left the other classes behind with very little or nothing. This shows that economics
have a massive hold on where the power in societies

History Of The Ghost Dance
The Ghost Dance was a sign of hope for the Native American that they truly believed in. The fact
that many of them would dance till unconscious shows the determination and faith that the Native
Americans had in the hope of being free once again. Not many citizens in this day and age have
faith as strong as the Native Americans; which, can be quite disheartening at times. It is infuriating
how the government treated civil, non threatening, cooperative human beings known as Native
Americans. In fact, those Native Americans were people that rightfully belonged to those native
lands. The general policy came across as not even seeing these people as actual human beings more
as an unwanted nuisance that could be controlled by means of arbitrary acts

Luther s Exposition On The Fourth Commandment
This paper will have a particular focus on Luther s Large Catechisms with specific attention towards
Luther s exposition on the fourth commandment. The following will critically analyze this
confessional text in light of its historical theological context and conclude with its contemporary
relevance within American social milieu. In particular, this paper will view Luther s exposition on
the fourth commandment with a pragmatic lens as a means to explore its implications for the
American social structure.
Luther s Large Catechism was written to assist preachers and pastors with Christian education and
to improve upon their fulfillment of their office duties. During the summer of 1527 Luther and his
colleagues at Wittenburg were rudely awakened by the pastoral leadership climate of the church.
Due to the various changes that were taking place during the Reformation, European society s
interest in Christian piety dramatically increased during the late Medieval Ages. As a result the
church increased the number of rostered Clergy to meet the pastoral demands. However, most of
the clergy had little to no educational background and what theology they did know came from
booklets that assisted them in their pastoral duties. In short, the church had an overabundance of
underequipped clergy who were loosely following the proper call of their office, and as a result
laity were uninformed on Christian doctrine as well as lacking in effective pastor care. In the

Compare And Contrast Priscilla And The Wimps
Comedy is a type of entertainment that uses jokes and skits that are intended to make the audience
laugh. In the short story, Priscilla and the Wimps, Monk Clutter had the school under control with
his gang, the Klutters Kobras. Before Priscilla came, the gang would go around the school stealing
kids lunch money from students. When Priscilla came, Monk had finally met his match. Richard
Peck s short comedy, Priscilla and the Wimps is a high level of comedy that uses comic
characters, comic situations, and comic language to convey the importance of treating others the
way you want to be treated. Priscilla and the Wimps is an example of high comedy because the
author uses witty exaggerating, and mocking jokes. The author of the short story uses clever
wordplay to create witty jokes for comic characters such as you re going to have to educate your...

For example, when Melvin and Priscilla were being treated poorly by Monk, ...Priscilla had Monk
in a hammerlock (peck 345). The author uses unusual situations to create humor. This hilarious
situation creates humor because Priscilla, a female, takes on the bully of the school, Monk. This
creates an ironic, comic situations because you would never expect a girl to beat up a boy. This
produces chuckles and grins from the readers since Priscilla play the role of a bigger person.
Another example of a comic situation is when Priscilla had stuffed ..Monk into her own locker
(Peck 345). This laughable situation creates humor because Priscilla again plays the role of a
bigger person by standing up for herself and the other students who had been bullied by Monk and
his Kobras. The way the author described how Priscilla stood up to the bully resulted in the
audience smiling and snickering. In summary, the comic situations in this short story display humor
in forms of chuckles and snickers from the

The Washington Redskins Name And Mascot
The Washington Redskins name and mascot represents one of the most recognized American
Indian figures in the United States. The controversial team name has been used since 1933, ever
since changing from its original name Boston Braves . It has sparked a nationwide outcry among
the remaining Native Americans who reside in the United States. Indians are forced to be reduced to
cartoon savages, ferocious warriors, and animal like heathens. After centuries of rampant dismissal,
removal, and destruction of this group, White Americans are still finding ways to subtly keep these
barriers in place which separates them. America s growing tolerance of racist stereotypes is
disturbing. The fact that many Americans do not realize that these... Show more content on

The slow yet brutal destruction of their population took place from 1492 1891. According to the
legal definition by the UN, this act is considered genocide which was perpetrated by both European
colonizers and the United States government. Tensions escalated and soon they were dehumanized
to the point where massacres such as Wounded Knee, hundreds of innocent Native Americans were
slaughtered by American soldiers. A significant precedent of the genocide was when White
Americans began making Indians the other . By viewing them as uncivilized creatures, it is easy to
separate oneself from a group so different. The use of Native American mascots is detrimental to
young American Indians and their psychological well being. When the mascot is constrained to a
stereotypical demeanor, it also constrains the way contemporary American Indians see themselves.
In mainstream media, Native Americans have little to no roles in movies, television, or music. The
only well known Indians in American culture are conventional characters created by large
corporations such as Disney s Pocahontas, Tonto from The Lone Ranger, and sports team s mascots.
The few representations of Native Americans are nationally broadcasted and provide misleading
and immoral assumptions on the targeted racial group. The select physical and behavior traits are
then taken, modified, and dramatized to ultimately create a character for entertainment and profit.

The New England Area And The Chesapeake Area
The English were early settlers in America. Two of their areas of settlement were the New
England area and the Chesapeake area. Even though these two places were settled by the same
country, both of their societies were very different. The main reasons for their differences were
their motives for colonization, slavery, and religion. The main motive of New England was to
serve God, and to be a City upon a hill as said by John Winthrop in the Mayflower Compact,
document A, We must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. They eyes of all people are
upon us. Document D also states that they want to share equal planting ground, and that
everyone in the colony will have a home. Document B shows that the colony was structured
more towards family life. Quotes like We intend by God s grace... to produce some Godly and
faithful minister with whom we purpose to join in church covenant to walk in all the ways of
Christ, tell you exactly why they are colonizing. Document E says that they intend to not be
selfish, but to put others first to that they can avoid the sin of oppression. New England in general
was very religious, and they, because of that, tended to be more friendly to each other and also to
the Indians than those living in Chesapeake did. The main motive of the Chesapeake area was to
make money and to own land in the new world. This is shown by how their colonies starved to
death in the beginning. When they arrived in America they thought that there would be

Who Is Rick Blaine In Casablanca
Screening Report of Casablanca In Michael Curtiz s film, Casablanca , the character Richard
Blaine has an internal conflict that reflects the feelings of the refugees in Cuba. He also exhibits
the power of love. Richard Blaine is a saloon owner in Casablanca. He is very cynical in his
actions. Rick is also very uninterested by anyone of his guests in the saloon. He seems detached
from his surroundings even though he is worshipped by the customers. Rick likes to remain alone
and mysteries and will not have drinks with any companions. His actions and character may stem
from emotional distress from his past. Richard seems as though if he is waiting for someone or
something to return to him in Casablanca. Refugees in Casablanca are waiting for an escape to
America. They are somewhat prisoners of Casablanca. This idea of confinement is shown
throughout the film when many people are trading massive amounts of currency or themselves for
passes to Lisbon.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She shows up quite abruptly in the saloon, only to run into Richard. However, she is not alone.
Isla is accompanied by her husband, Victor Laszlo. As the film portrays the meeting of Isla,
Victor, and Richard, you can see that there is in fact tension between Isla and Rick. Richard
appears visibly affected by the meeting. This is a turning point in the film. Richard s longing for
his long lost love has finally came to an end. He now has a chance to see, touch, and interactive
with a past figment of his imagination. This emotional event causes Richard to become heavily
intoxicated to mask the effects Isla has on him. This can be compared to the crime that happens in
Casablanca by the refugees. The refugees are good, honest people; however, they are faced with a
loss of hope, making these refugees act out in to criminal activities to achieve their goals of leaving
communist command. Humans, when faced with physical or emotional distress, will always try to

One must also remember the many acts that were set up to require companies to let the Secretary
of Treasury know their financial condition, such as The Budget and Accounting Procedures Act of
1950. The Chief Financial Officers Act of 1990 made companies prepare annual audited financial
statements for certain funds (The Chief Financial Officers Council and The Council of the
Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, 2011). Later, this act made all agencies covered
under the CFO Act in the Government Management Reform Act of 1994 and to all executive
agencies in the Accountability of Tax Dollars in 2002. The CFO also requires the directors of the

It is pretty simple why companies do choose to go public. Companies go public usually to have
access to more money (Martin, 2017). Companies have two ways they can increase funding.
They can sell bonds or sell shares. Although when it comes to selling bonds a company has to
remember that they still have to pay interest on the money they have borrowed and pay it all
back (Martin, 2017). This is why the majority of companies chose to raise the money by selling
shares instead. Companies want more money for new investments, new innovations, and to be
able to build up their savings too. Plus, companies need more money for when they start new
projects. When a company goes public it is not always positive. One disadvantage of going public
is the owner or owners of a company cannot manage the company like it is his or her private
company anymore. The business must make sure and acknowledge that they are responsible to
shareholders and will need to make sure that they have quarterly calls and explain their business
actions and why they made the choices they did. A company making this transition and going
through this process can longer just do what they want and get away with it. They have to take the
responsibility and remember to respect shareholders in order to have a successful company and
continue to grow. Another disadvantage carrying from the last issue is that all

Alcohol And Tea Reflection Paper
In the concluding thoughts of my previous reflection paper, I turned my attention to beverages in
Chinese religion, more specifically to the role of alcohol in religious ceremonies and social life. I
wondered: what is the role of alcohol and other special beverages in Chinese religions? In this
reflection paper, I will turn my attention towards tea and the roles that it played in monastic life in
Chinaas well as among the laity, while also continuing the discussion on the role of alcohol. To
conclude I would like to return to a previous question: what does the mode of otherness do in a
religious context. Taking this question, I will examine the relationship between otherness and
popular religionin China.
There were primarily two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Benn outlined: the precept against consuming alcohol is one of the five precepts observed by
laypeople. Even though many monks did consume alcohol, the promise of severe karmic
consequences prompted many to turn to tea. According to John Kieschnick, tea was a very
valuable resource for monks. He states: there were a number of reasons for monks to drink tea,
including its medicinal properties, its value as a stimulant after noon, and as an aid in staying alert
during meditation. Tea, like alcohol, could also be used as an offering at temples. Its rarity imbued
it with both symbolic value as well as economic value, factors which put the beverage in high
monastic regard. We can therefore conclude that both tea and alcohol played important roles, while
tea became instrumental to the operation of monastic life, alcohol played an important role in
secular life.
While reading about popular religion, I was reminded of my question reading the role of the
mode of otherness in a religious context. I formulated a new question: Does popular religion and
its food practices exist in a mode of otherness? From the readings, I drew three possible responses
to this question.
The first possible response is a firm no. Popular religion belongs to the populace, and many aspects
are practiced by large swaths of the population regardless of other religious beliefs. As we have
studied, ancestor veneration, though distinctive practice of popular

Greater Prairie Chicken Research Paper Greater Prairie Chicken (Tympanuchus cupido) Michael Reid American Military University Dr. Emily Morris Ornithology Aug 17, 2016 Greater Prairie Chicken (Tympanuchus cupido) The greater prairie chicken is a stocky chestnut, firmly banished grouse with paler shaded stripes, most effectively perceived by the male s particular and great appearance amid romance presentation. Amid the male s presentation, unmistakable, stretched pinnae (adjusted neck quills) get to be raised over the head, and substantial yellow orange air sacs in the neck or greater the eye get to be swelled. Both genders have these noticeable neck quills yet they are longer in guys. Especially in the Flint Hills, the careful yearly smoldering of endless territories of tallgrass prairie connected with serious, early steers eating in May, June, and July leaves few spots for ground settling fowls like prairie chickens to effectively settle. Greater prominent prairie chicken populaces in the Flint Hills have declined altogether since this touching framework got to be boundless. Be that as it may, less successive smoldering, in a perfect world once in 3 years or twice in 5 years, is basic to the strength of the prairie and for prairie chickens. Perhaps a greater genuine risk to greater prominent prairie chickens and other meadow winged animals is the spread of intrusive trees like eastern red cedar, Osage orange, and others into parts of our Kansas prairies ( read greater: Tree Invasion). Humorously, this has come about because of too little use of controlled smoldering in a few districts and from disappointment of area administrators to rapidly perceive and react to the danger tree intrusion stances to prairie, domesticated animals creation, and field untamed life (nature, ... • 4. The Legal Position And Right Of Residents 3.3BSECURITY OF TENURE The legal position and right of residents in different tenures vary considerably. Both owner occupiers and social renters have significant legal rights that are not usually available to tenants in the PRS (Tenure Trends in the UK Housing System, 2010). As mentioned previously, at about the start of the 20th century during the First World War, rent controls were put in place to limit the initial rent that a landlord could charge as well as any subsequent increase in response to housing shortages. The Rents Act 1915 was passed to provide security of tenure and to restrict rents in the PRS and remained in play for most of the 20th century. The rent acts contributed as a significant interference with the property ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though around the middle of the 20th century where security of tenure was still strong in the PRS, there were scurrilous landlords that would evict tenants unlawfully, a prime example being Peter Rachman, he was known for his exploitation and intimidation of his tenants. In response to the Rachman scandal the Eviction Act 1964 was passed in an attempt to deal with similar problems. The PRS underwent a mini revival during the 1990s due to a combinations of factors, such as changes to tenancy arrangement in the 1988 and 1996 Housing acts, the availability of housing benefits and the state of home owning market (Stuart Lowe, 2004). With the introduction of the Assured Short hold Tenancy (AST) in the Housing Act 1988, granted the landlord the right to guaranteed possession after the initial six month period, in other words giving landlords stronger rights. The Housing Act 1996 furthered strengthened a landlord s position by making AST the default tenancy except expressed. The Act defines several criteria for an AST to be set up e.g. the property must be set as separate accommodation, the property must be the tenant s main home, the tenant should be an individual, thus there are uncertainties that the AST s lack of security creates long term problems for tenants. Therefore a landlord may choose to evict the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Marriage in Ancient Roman Culture Every culture has marriage rituals that help differentiate them from each other. Traditions and customs in ancient Roman wedding etiquette was not very different from bridal etiquette today. Their wedding customs have actually set the basis for many modern weddings today. However, there were some customs that were very important to the Romans that do not completely relate to modern customs. An engagement ring, the choice of which date and location, the dressing of the bride, and the legalizing of the marriageitself were all important to the Ancient Roman culture. Before the actual wedding took place, several things had to happen. The bride had to get engaged. Engagement before the wedding was considered a good manner but wasn t always ... The Romans were very superstitious, and had to assure that no bad luck should fall on the date of marriage. The months of May and February were considered months of mourning, so no marriages took place during those months. Specific days were forbidden as well. Kalends (the first of the month), Nones (the fifth of the month), and Ides (the fifteenth of the month) were horrible days for weddings. Many people have heard the expression, Beware the Ides of March. It is known for being an ill fated day because Julius Caesar was assassinated on this date in 44 B.C. The morning of the wedding day, the bride had to rise early to pick flowers from her parent s garden to weave a crown to hold her veil in place. The flowers were said to be a symbol of innocence and purity. She would wear a flammeum (the wedding veil), which was considered to be a part of the wedding dress. The flammeum was the bride s rectangular, enveloping veil, which left her face uncovered. Flammeum means flame, so some believed it was red. However, the veil was dyed a very deep yellow, much like the flame of a candle. The wedding dress was very special and only worn once, much like the modern customs today. The bride would wear a wool robe of pure white. Wool was chosen as a lucky fabric to ward off evil. Around the waist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The additional revenue generated by the additional sale of K Cups would offset the losses incurred by lowering the prices of the brewers. Another opportunity that Keurig could take advantage of is to license additional coffee roasting companies to package their products in K Cups. Keurig s revenues would increase as a result of the increased royalties paid by the licensed roasters, and the increase in variety may motivate more coffee consumers to purchase a Keurig single cup brewer. Additionally, Keurig could seek to increase the number of office coffee system distributors that distribute Keurig s products. Lastly, Keurig could effectively publicize its involvement with socially and environmentally responsible causes in order to improve brand image and increase brand awareness. Threats The most obvious threat right now is the difficult consumer economy that may lead consumers to cut back on their spending causing a decrease in demand for Keurig s premium priced products. The price fluctuations of coffee represent another threat to Keurig s competitiveness. In May 2008, Green Mountain Coffee implemented its first prices increase since 2005. The 8 to 12 percent increase on coffee products was the result of several factors, including a sharp escalation in the price of green coffee, increases in other raw materials, and higher energy and fuel costs. • 8. What Is Dimmesdale A Hypocrisy Of Sin Life oftentimes presents multiple individuals with a shared obstacle, but the method which each person uses in order to overcome is pivotal in determining each person s fate. In Boston, Massachusetts during the 17th century, a cluster of men and women move away from the Old world and quickly become known as the Puritansociety. The Puritan people leave in order to gain freedoms yet formulate a hypercritical society based on strict conformity and theocracy. The common members of the group appear bleek and monotonous as they dress and act the same as one another. The society desires a perfect utopia, severely punishing and treating those who commit sin as criminals. The society ultimately becomes one of ignorance, hypocrisy, and isolation... Dimmesdale slowly but surely begins to understand how severe the damages of his guilt, hiding, and hypocrisy are to his soul. He goes through intense episodes of self harm and abuse as he lives with Chillingworth, the evil physician who acts as a catalyst to strengthening the grief and guilt that shadows poor Dimmesdale. After seven long years of hiding his sin and relationship with Hester from the public, Dimmesdale realizes how absurd his decision to conceal his struggle is. While conversing with Hester in the shadowy forest, free from Puritan judgement, Dimmesdale exclaims, Else, I should long ago have thrown off these garments of mock holiness, and have shown myself to mankind as they will see me at the judgment seat. Happy are you, Hester, that wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns in secret! (Hawthorne 167). Dimmesdale is finally brought to his senses when he reveals his admiration for Hester s bravery in being accountable for the sin. He realizes that if he could have adopted his sin upon the scaffold as hester does seven years prior, he would be much better off. • 10. Explain How The SRMS Changed The Capabilities Of The... The creation of the SRMS changed the capabilities of the United States space program. Before the system, everything which needed to be captured required risky docking maneuvers involving highly trained pilots. With the advent of the system, the Space Shuttle only required close proximity and allowed the SRMS to perform the delicate movements needed to capture and release objects near the Space Shuttle. The entire system was innovative for space capabilities, but it also changed robotics on Earth at the same time. The first thing the SRMS brought to the space program was the space robotics which did not exist before it was launched20. The proof of concept set the standard for all future robotics equipment in space. In addition, the earlier design choices to engineer the system like the human arm in control were part of a paradigm shift in robotics which has permeated the area robotics21. In addition to changing technology, the creation of the SRMS had a major impact on relations between the United States and Canada in terms of space. • 12. Types And Types Of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), also known as non insulin dependent DM, is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by certain symptoms such as hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and relative insulin deficiency [1]. Genetic, environmental and behavioural risk factors are considered responsible for the predisposition of T2DM [2]. With the progression of this disease, the patient eventually develops various short and long term complications. Thus, the patient has to undergo multiple therapies, which reduces the quality of life as well as the life expectancy [3]. The demographic data suggests that more than 400 million of population, across the globe are currently suffering from this disease. In 2012, the death toll is upto 1.5 million due to T2DM and 2.2 million people died due to high blood glucose level [4]. The major problem with this disease is that it cannot be completely cured, but the symptoms and complications can be controlled with diet, exercise, medicines and health monitoring. This subsequently lands the patient on lifetime medication that involves a huge cost. In 2012, the American Diabetes Association released a letter suggesting an annual expenditure of $245 billion for diabetes, which includes a direct medical cost of $176 billion and $69 billion in reduced productivity [5]. Organizational Culture Is The Unspoken, Informal Awareness Organizational Culture Organizational culture is the unspoken, informal awareness that both guides employees behaviors, and creates their behaviors, according to Stacey and Triandis (as cited in Ginter, Duncan, Swayne, 2013, p. 349). We must recognize that there is a causal relationship between organizational culture and employees actual behaviors. Ginter et al. (2013) explains that an organization creates mission, vision, and value statements to make clear, to project their image of who they are, what they want to accomplish, and how employees are expected to behave. When employees are in agreement with these elements, the organization can say this is their shared assumptions. On the other hand, shared values represent employees perceptions of how things should be done, which may or may not, be in harmony with how the organization cares to portray itself. Whether aligned or misaligned, it is nevertheless the actual behaviors that create organizational culture. These behavioral patterns can stem from strategies that employees espouse as a means of surviving in the organization (Cooke Rousseau, as cited in Rovithis et al., 2016, p.2). This paper discusses the powerful impact an organizational culture can have on strategic development. Examples are provided on how culture can contribute or hinder success within one organization, McLean Hospital. The main parties involved in Bacon s Rebellion were complete opposites and oddly enough cousins by marriage. Governor Sir William Berkeley was a veteran of the English Civil Wars, a frontier Indian fighter, a Governor in the 1640 s, a playwright and scholar. Sir William Berkeleys reputation as Governor of Virginia was well respected. The other member involved was Nathaniel Bacon. Bacon was a known as a troublemaker and conspirator whose father sent him to Virginia with the hope that he would mature. Bacon was intelligent and moving and once Bacon arrived in Virginia, Berkeley treated him with respect and friendship. Berkeley granted him both substantial land grant and a seat on the council in 1675. The Virginia colony was experiencing economic problems, such as declining tobacco prices, growing commercial competition from Maryland and the Carolinas, a restricted English market, the rising prices from English manufactured goods, and disturbances made by the Indians. There were also English losses in the series of naval wars with the Dutch and there were numerous problems caused by weather. Storms and dry spells plagued the colony and had a damaging effect on the colonists which encouraged the colonists to find people they could vent their frustrations and place the blame for their misfortunes. Men wear top hats and long tailed coats while the women wear full length dresses, all symbolic of the late 19th century. The artist used deep colors, making the painting appear darker; perhaps to evoke the feeling of a rainy day or that it is sometime between late afternoon and early evening. It is interesting to note that a fashionably dressed Parisian couple (a man and a woman) in the foreground of the painting is walking toward the viewer. • 19. The Three Trunks Of The Plexus Rick Winstead Steve Hammons PTA 150 2/13/15 Brachial Plexus At first glance, the brachial plexus may be a bit intimidating. The nerves arising from it and the muscles of the trunk and upper extremity of which it innervates may seem overwhelming, but as one begins the process of adding all of the components together in an orderly fashion, it begins to be seen in a much more easily understood manner. The first step in this process is to gain a grasp on the basic main structure of the plexus, and then gradually build on that foundation. The basic organization is split into five areas. These are the roots, trunks, divisions, cords, and terminal branches. The five roots originate from spinal nerves C5, C6, C7, C8, and T1. It is important to remember that these five areas contain both motor and sensory components. Next are the three trunks of the plexus. The roots of C5 and C6 combine to form the upper trunk, C7 continues on its own to form the middle trunk, and the lower trunk is formed by C8 and T1. Each trunk then divides into an anterior and posterior division. The divisions then combine to form cords. The anterior divisions of the upper and middle trunk combine to form the lateral cord, the anterior division of the lower trunk forms the medial cord, and all three posterior divisions combine to make the posterior cord. Finally, the cords give way to the terminal branches of the brachial plexus. The lateral cord splits and becomes the musculocutaneous nerve, and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the most spectacular because of the amount of people who worked on it, the length of the wall, and the time period it was built in. The wall of china was built to keep the Chinese in, and the rest of the world out. It was built under the rule of emperor Shi Huangdi. The creation of the Great Wall of Chinawas actually the linking of walls that were already built by other kingdoms. It was built after the unification of china in the beginning of the Qin Dynasty (221 206 BC). It was a massive construction project in which a lot of time was invested, and in which many suffered. It was the most ambitious engineering project ever conceived. This extraordinary project could have never been built without the unification of China. Before china was unified, everything was chaotic and disastrous. Previous to the unification of china, I don t think people could have come together to build a wall as such. China was made up of a number of states each fighting for supremacy. There were a number of wars going on between the different states and neither was successful. It wasn t until the Qin kingdom rose and destroyed the other kingdoms. They destroyed most of the kingdoms but one was still left, they were called the Chu. Does propaganda alone have the power to incite genocide and ethnic cleansing? Are certain media more effective in achieving extremist goals than others? Not only was he a smart and intelligent man, but he had such wisdom and determination when he looked at every aspect of life. Thoreau was just an ordinary individual from Concord, which helped the readers relate to him on a more personal level when they read his work. In Thoreau s Walden, he wanted the reader to understand that you should live life more simple, connect with nature so you can connect with God, and live your life working hard so you do not have to solely rely on anyone. Thoreau moved and lived in the woods for two years to simply live simpler. Before Thoreau moved into the woods, he had been living in Concord, Massachusetts. Young Thoreau, then in his late 20s, had tried to live as others lived as a schoolmaster, a private tutor, a surveyor, a gardener, a farmer, a house painter, a carpenter, a mason, a day laborer, a pencil maker, a glass paper maker, a writer, and sometimes a poetaster, by his own reckoning but had found those careers wanting. The mass of men, he wrote, lead lives of quiet desperation. He was determined not to be one of them. In the beginning of the film Mizoguchi opens Sisters of the Gion with a bunch of men that seems to be having an auction to collect valuables (women). This camera movement ... • 38. Essay about Affirmative Action is Not Reverse Discrimination Affirmative Action is Not Reverse Discrimination Affirmative Action is not meant to help blacks because of the color of their skin, but because they deserve compensation for past and continuing injustices. Opponents may criticize the wisdom of how this compensation is meted out, but they cannot question the principle of compensatory damages, which enjoys a long tradition in our society. To many opponents of affirmative action, a color blind society should not discriminate at hiring time on the basis of color, sex, etc. This would make the preferential hiring of blacks just as wrong as preferential hiring of whites. Furthermore, opponents claim, the introduction of past injustices does not change this logic. If blacks were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The situation is akin to the Jews who survived the Holocaust. Germany paid a large sum in compensatory damages to the state of Israel after World War II, and no one decried this as reverse racial discrimination. Now, opponents of affirmative action may question whether affirmative action is the right way to go about correcting past and present injustice. For example, can we compensate the living for sins committed against their ancestors? Is it right to compensate groups instead of specifically harmed individuals? But these are separate issues, ones that should be addressed elsewhere. (The reader may find them in the next essay.) The point here is that affirmative action is intended not as reverse discrimination, but as compensatory damages for injustice. Moral absolutism Those who use the term reverse descrimination are actually engaging in moral absolutism, a completely unworkable concept that has never been practiced by any society in history. An example may best highlight its difficulties. Suppose our society passed a law that says, No one shall forcefully take a television set from the possession of another. But the next day your neighbor comes over to your house with a gun and forcefully takes your television set from you. Having identified your neighbor, you call the police. The police show up at his door and demand that he surrender the television; he refuses, whereupon they pull ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Three Main Ideas From The Communist Manifesto Foundations of Sociology essay (Soc 10010) Describe the three main ideas from the Communist Manifesto. In this essay I will discuss three of the main ideas from Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto . I have chosen to look at class struggles, the abolishment of private property and the idea that states look after the dominant classes in societies. I chose these as I found them to be the three main ideas that stood out to me most after reading the book. I have delved into each one and shown why I think they are the three main ideas. I found them to be very interesting ideas which Marx has communicated very well. Class struggles are a key idea in Marx s Communist Manifesto . The bourgeoisie, in France, had been oppressed and after overthrowing the very distinct upper class they now held the power. During the revolution they campaigned for liberty, equality and fraternity. This did not materialise afterwards as stated by Marx: The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away with class antagonisms. It has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression, new forms of struggle in place of the old ones. Marx (1848, p.74) Marx proves that even when societies have fought for something like freedom, it does not always last. The bourgeois brought in capitalism, which brought freedom, but it brought freedom to the bourgeois and left the other classes behind with very little or nothing. • 44. Luther s Exposition On The Fourth Commandment This paper will have a particular focus on Luther s Large Catechisms with specific attention towards Luther s exposition on the fourth commandment. The following will critically analyze this confessional text in light of its historical theological context and conclude with its contemporary relevance within American social milieu. In particular, this paper will view Luther s exposition on the fourth commandment with a pragmatic lens as a means to explore its implications for the American social structure. Luther s Large Catechism was written to assist preachers and pastors with Christian education and to improve upon their fulfillment of their office duties. During the summer of 1527 Luther and his colleagues at Wittenburg were rudely awakened by the pastoral leadership climate of the church. Due to the various changes that were taking place during the Reformation, European society s interest in Christian piety dramatically increased during the late Medieval Ages. As a result the church increased the number of rostered Clergy to meet the pastoral demands. However, most of the clergy had little to no educational background and what theology they did know came from booklets that assisted them in their pastoral duties. In short, the church had an overabundance of underequipped clergy who were loosely following the proper call of their office, and as a result laity were uninformed on Christian doctrine as well as lacking in effective pastor care. In the introduction to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A significant precedent of the genocide was when White Americans began making Indians the other . By viewing them as uncivilized creatures, it is easy to separate oneself from a group so different. Even though these two places were settled by the same country, both of their societies were very different. The main reasons for their differences were their motives for colonization, slavery, and religion. The main motive of New England was to serve God, and to be a City upon a hill as said by John Winthrop in the Mayflower Compact, document A, We must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. They eyes of all people are upon us. Document D also states that they want to share equal planting ground, and that everyone in the colony will have a home. Document B shows that the colony was structured more towards family life. Quotes like We intend by God s grace... to produce some Godly and faithful minister with whom we purpose to join in church covenant to walk in all the ways of Christ, tell you exactly why they are colonizing. Document E says that they intend to not be selfish, but to put others first to that they can avoid the sin of oppression. New England in general was very religious, and they, because of that, tended to be more friendly to each other and also to the Indians than those living in Chesapeake did. It is pretty simple why companies do choose to go public. Companies go public usually to have access to more money (Martin, 2017). Companies have two ways they can increase funding. They can sell bonds or sell shares. Although when it comes to selling bonds a company has to remember that they still have to pay interest on the money they have borrowed and pay it all back (Martin, 2017). This is why the majority of companies chose to raise the money by selling shares instead. Companies want more money for new investments, new innovations, and to be able to build up their savings too. Plus, companies need more money for when they start new projects. When a company goes public it is not always positive. One disadvantage of going public is the owner or owners of a company cannot manage the company like it is his or her private company anymore. The business must make sure and acknowledge that they are responsible to shareholders and will need to make sure that they have quarterly calls and explain their business actions and why they made the choices they did. I wondered: what is the role of alcohol and other special beverages in Chinese religions? In this reflection paper, I will turn my attention towards tea and the roles that it played in monastic life in Chinaas well as among the laity, while also continuing the discussion on the role of alcohol. As Benn outlined: the precept against consuming alcohol is one of the five precepts observed by laypeople. Even though many monks did consume alcohol, the promise of severe karmic consequences prompted many to turn to tea. According to John Kieschnick, tea was a very valuable resource for monks. He states: there were a number of reasons for monks to drink tea, including its medicinal properties, its value as a stimulant after noon, and as an aid in staying alert during meditation. Tea, like alcohol, could also be used as an offering at temples. Its rarity imbued it with both symbolic value as well as economic value, factors which put the beverage in high monastic regard. We can therefore conclude that both tea and alcohol played important roles, while tea became instrumental to the operation of monastic life, alcohol played an important role in secular life. While reading about popular religion, I was reminded of my question reading the role of the mode of otherness in a religious context. I formulated a new question: Does popular religion and its food practices exist in a mode of otherness? From the readings, I drew three possible responses to this question. The first possible response is a firm no. Popular religion belongs to the populace, and many aspects are practiced by large swaths of the population regardless of other religious beliefs.
