- 2. Born in Real Madrid, Spain on March 23, 1887, Juan Gris isn`t one of the most famous painters of all time, but, in my opinion, one of the best. He studied at Escuela de Artes y Manufacturas in Real Madrid from 1902 to 1904, but lived and worked in France later in life. I think what`s cool is that he was friends with Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Gris lived during World War 1. He was part of the Cubist movement.
