Jan Matejko was a 19th century Polish painter known for his historical paintings depicting important events from Polish history. He studied in Kraków and Munich and was a member of the Scientific Society and director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. His paintings were characterized by great attention to detail and were based on his vast historical knowledge. Matejko was renowned as one of the greatest portraitists of history in Poland.
1. Jan Matejko /1838-1893/ is one of the representatives of the
Polish historical painting. He studied in Kraków, then in
Munich and Vienna. He was a member of the Scientific
Society and the director of the Academy of Fine Arts in
Kraków. In 1887 he received the title of Doctor Honoris
Causa at the Jagiellonian University. Matejko painted
historical pictures to show the events of national history. His
extraordinary works are characterized by a great attention to
details. All the works are based on a vast historical
knowledge of their author. Jan Matejko was also the greatest
portraitist of history.
2. Rafał Malczewski was born on 24 October 1892 in Krakow, died February 15th, 1965
of Montreal. One of the most famous Polish painters, writers and travellers. The son of a prominent
painter Jacek Malczewski
3. Florian Kohut is an artist born 23 IV 1952 in Rudzica,
graduated from National School of Fine Arts in Bielsko
Biała. In 1989 he received creative licence from Culture
and Art Department.
He has been a painter for about 35 years. He
paints outdoor with watercolors, pastels and oil. His
pictures are popular among collectors.

5. Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin was born in Żelazowa Wola,
Poland in 1810 and he died in Paris, France in 1849.

era, whose "poetic genius was based on a professional
technique that was without equal in his generation.”
