Bilbo Coming Of Age Essay
The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien is a perfect example of a coming of age story. Bilbo, the main
protagonist, started his journey as a sheltered hobbit. It was clear that he had potential to do something
great, but his own insecurities and his fear to stand out crippled his progression in life. He didn t leave
his house often, and he hardly took any risks. He failed to grow as an individual. Bilbo throughout the
book he experienced personal growth through his encounter with the goblins he, he became confident
through the events that happened at Mirkwood, and when he returned home at the end of the journey,
he was filled with self love and pride. At the beginning of the book, Bilbo told Gandalf that he did not
want anything to do with the journey. He feared for his safety, and he had nightmares the night before
the journey started. However, throughout his journey, he bonded and learned a lot from the dwarves.
He found out who he really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One night while traveling through the Mirkwood forest, they saw a flicker of light and decided to go
towards it. Born and Gandalf did warn them about this, and told them not to follow the light. After
Bilbo gets captured by the giant spider, his will and perseverance is tested. Not only does he escape
from the spider s trap, but he also defeats the spider and saves the party. He gains even more
experience, and becomes a leader in the group. Before he returned home, he was assumed dead and
his items were auctioned off to the members of his community. When he finally arrived, he was
treated as an outcast because adventures are looked frowned upon in the hobbit community. Without
the friends and companions Bilbo made on the journey, Bilbo would have been completely alone.
However, he didn t really care of how his peers perceived him. Bilbo was not only proud of himself,
but he knew he was happy and comfortable with the path he took, and the life he

What Is Voyeurism In Rear Window
I chose to critique a movie called Rear Window, a realist film by Alfred Hitchcock produced in 1954.
Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly and, Wendell Corey. The genre is thriller and the sub genre
suspense infused with mystery. Therefore, Rear Window one of Alfred Hitchcock s highly inspired
audience participation films. When a person watches it, he feels, tantalized, shocked, and exhilarated.
Further in this essay, I will summarize the plots, discuss the styles used, and deconstruct parts of the
film.
The protagonist film is Jeff who is photographer that broke one of his legs and is sitting in a wheel
chair by his apartment window. Having nothing to achieve, Jeff gets very board he peeks at his
neighbor s room from his rear window. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on what s
happening inside his neighborhood. Allowing the audience to stay focused, as we become voyeurs
watching the various dramas unfolding. Moreover, Alfred Hitchcock has unlimited technical brilliance
with a boundless ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. Using the techniques of
dramatic variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting from long
shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and
sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film raise attention to the events that unfold in front
of us. The shots in the movie are edited in a relatively subjective style. According to Hitchcock
Editing shouldn t be in terms of cutting but rather in terms of assembly or Mosaic (Hitchcok, 1963,
p.4). Therefor, Montage is the process or technique of selecting and piecing together separate sections
of film to form a continuous sequence. When two shots juxtapose in such a way it gives the third shot
another meaning. This is one classic examples of Alfred Hitchcock s way of thinking. The voyeurism
practiced in the film makes the audience conscious of why the protagonist is behaving in a certain

SIR ALFRED HITCHCOCK
Filmmaker Sir Alfred Hitchcock was nicknamed The Master of Suspense . Hitchcock s films are
recognised for their thrilling plots revolving around violence, murder and crime. His distinctive
directorial style was a result of the unmistakeable presence of psychological suspense. Over the course
of his career which spanned over six decades, Hitchcock has directed more than 50 feature films.
PSYCHO BACKGROUND
Psycho is undeniably Hitchcock s masterpiece. It is definitely one of the most exceptional and
suspense filled thrillers in the history of cinema. Back in 1960 when this movie was released it set a
new level of acceptability for brutality, sexuality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shower scene is carefully crafted sequence of 78 pieces of film. It exhibits various camera
movements and transitions within a matter of seconds. This technique was totally unheard of in that
era. Psycho thereby ushered in a new era of cinematic horror. And cinema has not been the same ever
since.
There is a brief portrayal of sexual imagery in the frame as the camera cuts into a low angle shot and
Marion removes her bath robe. A crab shot, still maintaining a low angle, then tracks Marion as she
moves into the shower and pulls the curtain. Hint of vulnerability is dropped as Marion is now naked
which is soon followed by her horrific murder in the following shots. This is to impose empathy to the
audience as throughout the scene so far the camera had focused intently on Marion, following every
one of her movements, slowly constructing a sense fear and horror. This deeply impacts the audience
when she dies at the climax of this scene. The scene was shot with Janet Leigh ( Marion Crane )
wearing moleskin patches that covered strategic areas. However, for several other angles Hitchcock

Justice Is One Of The Most Important Moral And Political...
Justice is one of the most important moral and political concepts. The word comes from the Latin jus,
meaning right or law. Since the beginning of time, injustice has been an issue each individual has
experienced during his or her daily lives. Even today we still are experiencing riots and protests from
African American in order to achieve justice. In Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 by Anna Deavere Smith
we see an example of injustice through the Rodney King case and the shooting of Latasha Harlins.
Rodney King and Latasha Harlins experienced racial injustice, which can be defined as the denial of
rights based on an individual s race or racial background. Both two victims were mistreated for the
color of their skin and were stripped from their equal rights and opportunities.
In Los Angeles, California, four Los Angeles police officers had been caught beating an unarmed
African American motorist, Rodney King. Rodney King had severe injuries due to the beating. On
April 23, the King trial jury begins its deliberations, and hours later the verdict was announced and the
officers were found innocent. In the presentation by Dr. Taylor, she stated prosecutors provide
evidence, and the defense provides evidence and the two halves create a whole story (Dr. Taylor). This
is stating that when justice is involved, hearing both stories help put compose the concrete truth of
what transpired and occurred. However, in the Rodney King case, he was stripped from his justice to

Hybrid Cars And Hybrid Electric Vehicles
In the present generation where automobiles are very important in daily life, there is two types of cars
i.e. Gasoline vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles, hybrid electric cars which used quite a while but
not as much as their gasoline counterparts. The difference between these two cars is mainly the
Engine, tank, and the source on which the cars work. The hybrid electric vehicle is more a
computerized and electric version where it switch between running on gasoline and electricity. Other
than that major changes, these cars are fundamentally the same. The body and the maneuvering design
of these are fundamentally the same. Hybrid cars were few to come by when they were initially
introduced, but current climate change and pollution issues have encouraged people to opt for the
cleaner and greener version of the automobile. Although both kinds of automobiles are being used,
there are a lot of aspects where these automobiles can be differentiated. A few comparisons between
these two vehicles is stated below.
1. HISTORY:
a. Hybrid: This type of engine vehicles were invented in the 19th century but it came into market in
early 2000 and gained popularity in the 2005 from then on many started to use this type of vehicles.
b. Gasoline: This type of vehicles were invented in 1876 in Germany and the usage of these cars was
from 1882 and it is still very much in demand in the market for its features.

Myocardial Tuberculosis Research Paper
Tuberculosis(TB) is a highly contagious disease that primarily affects the lungs, although it can also
be found in other body parts. The disorder is caused by a bacteria called myocardial tuberculosis, and
is mostly spread through the air when an infected person coughs. Many years ago, tuberculosis
accounted for nearly 30% of deaths in the US. In the 1940 s and 50 s, however, its fatality rate
dropped significantly due to antibiotics and vaccinations. Since the outbreak of AIDS, tuberculosis has
increasingly been an issue again since people with the disease cannot fight off TB (Bontrager
Lampignano 2005, Basic TB Facts 2012).
Although highly contagious through air, TB cannot be contracted from shaking hands or sharing a
drink. The most common symptoms include severe coughing, coughing up blood, fatigue, loss of
appetite, weight loss, chills, night sweats, and fever. When a person has tuberculosis but has no
symptoms and cannot spread it, they have latent TB. People who have latent TB can have it for years
without knowing because it is not noticeable until it reaches TB disease and becomes active. Usually
latent TB turns to TB disease when the immune system becomes weak and cannot fight it off, and then
turns contagious (Basic TB Facts 2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Social Science Perspectives Of Sociologists And Social...
The two social science perspectives of criminologists and social marketers share both connections and
disparities when it comes to the use of drugs and alcohol. This report emphasises the different
disciplinary approaches used by both these social science perspectives when it comes to alcohol and
drugs. A criminologists perspective explores the use of drug courts to divert illicit drug users from
prison into treatment programs for their drug addictions along with the revaluation of the 25a crimes
act Assault causing death due to the 2012 Thomas Kelly king hit in Kings cross. The social marketing
perspectives examines the different marketing range and nature of advertising and promotional
strategies used by alcohol companies to young people and the codes and regulations put in place when
it comes to advertising alcohol and young people.
It is inevitable that at some stage in an individual s life, they are going to use drugs and or alcohol and
some point. In the entirety of this report alcohol refers to a liquid or brew containing alcohol as the
active agent and drugs refer to a substance that is used as a medicine or narcotic. (Hornby, A.S. and
Wehmeier, S., 1995)
The criminologist s perspective has a heavy reliance on the drug court when it comes to the
disciplinary approaches used in relations to drugs. The term Drug Court refers to dedicated
courtrooms that provide judicially monitored treatment, drug testing and other services to drug
involved offenders. They

Health Care For The United States
Health care costs in the United States account for a large portion of the national expenditure.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), per capita national health
expenditures totaled $9,255 and total national health care expenditures totaled $2.9 trillion in 2013
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013).
Despite the substantial amount of money spent on health care in the United States, gaps existed in the
health insurance system that failed to provide adequate coverage to a significant proportion of the
population. The primary avenue for accessing health care is through health insurance; therefore, those
who lacked health insurance lacked access to health care. In an attempt to expand coverage to the ...

In 2013, annual premiums for individual coverage averaged $5,884 and $16,351 for family coverage.
This equated to workers spending $83/month for individual coverage and $380/month for family
coverage (Majerol et al., 2015). Despite the significant cost of health insurance for individuals and
their families, the cost of coverage offered was not linked to favorable health outcomes. This begs the
question: was it worth it for workers to spend their limited financial resources on health care
coverage?
Adults less than 65 years of age from low or moderate income families comprise the majority of
uninsured Americans because Medicare covers health insurance for elderly adults greater than age 65.
Furthermore, adults were more likely to lack health insurance than children because Medicaid and the
Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provide health insurance coverage for children.
Minorities were much more likely to be uninsured than whites and the majority of the uninsured
population were native or naturalized United States citizens (Majerol et al., 2015). Non citizens
residing in the U.S. had poor access to employer sponsored health care coverage because they were
more likely to be employed in jobs with poor wage compensation and industries that did not offer
health care coverage. In the majority of cases, immigrants who were lawfully present in the U.S. were
considered to be ineligible for Medicaid or CHIP if they had been in

Theme Of Deceit In The Odyssey
Leading themes in The Odyssey include humility, perseverance, and deceit. Deceit guides some of the
characters actions, and it also moves the story forward. The poem showcases deception as a common
tool among both the antagonists and the protagonists. Each group utilizes their wits with various
intentions ranging from maintaining fidelity, self preservation, and murder. Their lies and illusions
usually solve their problems and allow them to help others. For example, Odysseus s deceptions help
him defeat adversaries and also help him return home. He and other characters deploy duplicity to
achieve better ends, and that shows that duplicity in the poem is not always negative. Furthermore, the
deceiving actions of the characters also reveal that skills in deceit are valuable and critical to the tale,
and that the original storytellers respected those skills. The Ancient Greeks valued the ability to
deceive as evidenced by The Odyssey through the depiction of certain characters such as Penelope,
Odysseus, Athena, and Hermes. By the poem s telling of Penelope s story, it shows that people end up
respecting skills in deceit and cleverness. Penelope s story goes as follows: she resorts to deceit in
order to remain faithful to her husband. No one in the poem disapproves of her deceitful actions
except the people she dupes. Afterward, readers remember Penelope for her unwavering fidelity, and
also for her tricks to keep it. The first trick readers encounter involves Penelope

The Gallup Poll
The Gallup Poll
When Gallup conducts a national opinion poll, the starting place is where all or most Americans are
equally likely to be found. That place is in their home, which is the starting place for nearly all
national polling. The actual target audiences, referred to as national adults , are aged 18 and over,
living in telephone households within the United States. What I don t understand is that Gallup
excludes college students living on campus, armed forces living on military bases, prisoners,
hospitalized people, and anyone else who is living institutionalized. I think these exclusions are unfair.
The article explains that the reasoning for not including the people who live in the places mentioned
above is because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing I found interesting in this article is that Gallup as well as other major organizations use
sample sizes of 1,000 1,500 because these sample sizes are enough to give a good balance of accuracy
opposed to much larger samples which would be very expensive. I hadn t considered expense when it
comes to collecting a sample but apparently it can be very costly. For instance, if a sample size of
4,000 were selected each time there was a poll, the increase in accuracy would be very small, and
would not justify the increase in cost. Now, I believe this to be true because I do think that the people
behind things like the Gallop Poll are very smart statisticians and would not lie when it comes to what
effects the sample size has on the accuracy of results. It makes absolute sense to me that specific ways
of measuring the accuracy of samples have been done for many years and the processes and results
have been analyzed thoroughly with each design.
The poll of such a small number of people do not invalidate the results since for instance, as stated in
the article, if the sample size was raised to 2,000 instead of 1,000, for a Gallup Poll there would be a
gain of only 1% in terms of accuracy, and a 100% increase in terms of cost. I can understand that
looking at results with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points is reasonable compared
to spending a lot more money and only change the margin of error by

Analysis Of The Seventh Man By Haruki Murakami
Imagine you just stood back while watching your best friend get swept up into an enormous wave in a
typhoon, and he ends up deceased. You d feel horrific, appaling, and guilty. You couldn t move in the
moment when it had happened, you were frozen, everything happened in a sluggish speed. You
wanted to reach out and grab him, but just couldn t think of how to react, something was holding you
back... and that something, was fear. However, if you tried saving him, your life may have been taken
away as well. You dont know weather to feel guilty for failing to save your friend, or if you should be
grateful that you survived. Should you forgive yourself for failing to save your friend even though it
wasn t your responsibility to save them? Correspondingly, in The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami,
the narrator has trouble forgiving himself after this tragic incident of his friend K . He has nightmares
of K every night, and he sees him again. Sometimes he gets sucked into the wave along with K and he
wakes up in the night screaming, breathless, and drenched in sweat. Although the nightmares

someone grabs my right leg. I feel an ice cold grip on my ankle. ... I m being dragged down under the

Determination of Calcium Ions in Milk Using Titration
Determination of Calcium ions in milk using titration.
Background Calcium is a mineral which is essential to the human body. In fact 1.5% of the human
body is made up of calcium, and not just the obvious uses such as bone and teeth formation but it is
also a vital factor in many enzyme reactions, for example blood clotting. It also partakes in the

wants to remove the idea of heterosexuality from the realm of the taken for granted, subjecting it to

Pat Conroy s Memoir The Water Is Wide
Segregation in America has only just recently concluded. But during the writing of The Water is Wide,
the people of Yamacraw Island must infinitely live in their stagnant lifestyle of illiteracy, and
ignorance. The children from the island have received values and beliefs passed down from their
parents. In Pat Conroy s perspective, the government neglected Yamacraw Island and caused these
values and beliefs to remain in use. In the memoir The Water is Wide by Pat Conroy, the author
stresses the impact that segregation and national ignorance has on the people of a socially isolated
town on Yamacraw Island, South Carolina. Mrs. Brown, the first schoolteacher on the island, most
clearly demonstrates the theme of national ignorance. Mrs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Every so often, Mrs. Brown pokes her head in and attempts to steer Pat Conroy s teaching methods
back on course in her favor. Pat Conroy works for a revolutionary change in the students, while Mrs.
Brown s continues a heartless attitude towards the children. One day in class, Mr. Conroy tries to
collect the students prior knowledge. Pat Conroy peruses their psyche s by asking questions, starting
from moderately hard, then gradually decreasing to basic knowledge. He eventually decreases the
difficulty to one incredibly easy question to the normal American. For example, Pat Conroy relates,
What country do we live in, gang? Everybody tell me at once, I exhorted. No one said a word. Several
of the kids looked at one another and shrugged their shoulders (Conroy). This quotation clearly
demonstrates that the government almost completely neglected the students of Yamacraw Island. The
students cannot even comprehend the name of the land that they stand on, which focuses on survival
in the modern world. The title of the book, The Water is Wide, stands as an appropriate choice because
the small river exists as the only thing separating Yamacraw Island from the rich, fulfilled life of the
outside world. When someone crosses the river, everything taught to him or her becomes nonexistent
on this new planet called Yamacraw Island. The people of the Island live a completely different

Neo-Keynesian Economics Summary
John Maynard Keynes (1883 1946) is a British economist who is the founder of Keynesian economics
and the father of modern macroeconomics. He published his foundational book: The General Theory
of Employment, Interest and Money, in 1936 less than a decade after the great depression of 1929. His
theories were largely in contrast with classical economics. Between the 1970s and the 1990s, more
economists reviewed the Keynesian economics and proposed some changes, they are known as the
New Keynesian economics or Neo Keynesian. James Tobin, Gregory Mankiw, and David Romer
developed the foundations of Neo Keynesian (Greenlaw, n.d). In the following essay I shed the light

Graphic Imagery And Designs Evolve Until Production
The process towards architectural construction takes on many forms, including various design stages.
The graphic imagery and designs evolve until production begins. There are undoubtedly many
considerations into a building s design, which stresses their representation as even more important and
influential to its potential construction. Elevation drawings and plans lay out the details of
construction, they are useful to ensure the structure adheres to any local codes, however more detailed
drawings are required for construction known as final renderings.1 Drawings are therefore a
fundamental form of documentation that informs a building s production. On the other hand, the
emergence of archigram in the post war era encouraged the imagination and was a platform that
challenged previous form of representation. Archigram placed as much influence on the context of the
building and depicting its urban surrounding as much as emphasising the building itself. In addition,
architectural photography provoked the emergence of modern forms and structures; however,
contextualizing buildings within the image was unnecessary. It was believed that architecture could
reform people architecture is the art one lives in and thus rational design could make rational
societies.2 This idea was very much a driving force of representation which drawings, photography
and archigram intended to reform their urban landscape. Unlike detailed drawing which provided an
insight into the scale and

The King In Oedipus The King
In the popular Greek tragedy Oedipus the King, the plot shows how a single bad trait can lead to the
fall of a once great man. The author Sophocles portrays the story of the titular where a hero rises to
fame after solving the city of Thebes great riddle. The solution to the riddle frees Thebes of its curse
from the Sphinx and relieves the city s misery. Although Oedipus is praised and crowned king for
freeing the city, he is not entirely a good man. Oedipus is very arrogant, which causes him to make
several bad decisions. Through the story of Oedipus the King, Sophocles warns readers not to let
arrogance blind them from reality, for it will eventually result in tremendous suffering.
At the beginning of this Greek drama, Oedipus is blind due to his arrogance. For example, when the
city is in shambles and the Chorus marches around the altar praying to the gods, Oedipus walks in and
says to them, You pray to the gods? Let me grant your prayers (245). He believes he can answer the
people of Thebes prayers. Additionally, Oedipus is convinced he has god like powers because of his
role as king and his previous success in solving the Sphinx s riddle. His past leads him to believe he is
always right, which is exactly what happens when he encounters the prophet. Oedipus says, Blind, /
lost in the night, endless night that nursed you! / You can t hurt me or anyone else who sees the light /
you can never touch me (425 28). Oedipus attacks the prophet with insults for saying that he was the
one that killed Laius. Again, Oedipus reveals his exaggerated sense of his own abilities and believes
that it is impossible for him to be wrong. Oedipus considers himself to be one of the fortunate who are
able to see the light (427) and cannot be steered in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, in King
Oedipus case, his high ego leads to his great demise.
As this drama progresses, Oedipus begins connecting the dots and restoring his vision. When Jocasta
explains how her husband died to Oedipus, he says, I have a terrible fear the blind seer can see (823).
Oedipus is now suspecting that the prophecy is true because of the similarities between Laius death
and the man he had killed. He begins to stop worrying about his ego and

1. Regulations (Chapter 10)
How have recent financial disruptions changed the ways that financial markets are regulated? The
subprime mortgage crisis is a huge example of a financial disruption that changed the ways that
financial markets are regulated. Since bankers were giving out subprime mortgages that the house
buyers could not repay, the house buyers all obtained way too much debt that they could not pay back.
Because people couldn t pay back their debts then they got foreclosed. Since this screwed up our
entire economic status there have been a lot of regulations on that market.

The secondary market dictates what the value of a firm is. If there is a lot of trading going on for a
certain firm s securities then the value of the firm will go up. But if everyone sells the securities in a

What service does a stockbroker offer? Briefly describe the difference between a full service broker
and a discount broker. How does a broker handle a market order? How does a broker handle a limit
order? · A stockbroker is a regulated professional individual, usually associated with a brokerage firm
or broker dealer, who buys and sells stocks and other securities for both retail and institutional clients,
through a stock exchange or over the counter, in return for a fee or commission.
· Full service: provide a variety of services, such as personal advice, retirement planning and tax tips.
Full service brokers offer a wider selection of investment products such as derivatives and insurance,
as well as access to the company s research. Full service brokers are paid based on commission.
· Discount: do not provide investment advice. Fees are kept low because discount brokers offer fewer
products. They are paid on salary, not commission.
· Market order: An order that an investor makes through a broker or brokerage service to buy or sell an
investment immediately at the best available current price. A market order is the default

The Pros And Cons Of The Berlin Wall
Usually walls are put into places to avoid people to cross borders and keep peace but they destroy
peace. Recently one could have heard in the News that Trump wants the Mexicans to pay for a wall
between Mexico and the United States. This Wall should make it impossible for people to cross the
border unofficially. As one could know from history classes, we had a wall in Germany for many
years which was built by the winner countries of the second world war for a similar reason. Before the
Wall, many people from East Germany tried to escape to West Germany where they had obviously
better living conditions. It divided Germany in East and West Germany. Additionally, there was a part
of Berlin, what was in the East German part, isolated from a huge wall that belonged to West
Germany. This wall made it hard for the citizens of East Germany to visit West Germany. The
Government of East Germany had other principles than the government of West Germany and it was
not in the interest of the East German government to show their citizens how good their life could be
in West Germany. After the falling of the Wall, it was possible for everyone to travel in Germany
whenever they want without standing in line at the borders. But there was a big gap in wealth between
East and West Germany. Even today the loans in West Germany are lower and the federal states have
less money than the ones in West Germany. But in Berlin, one can visit ruins of the Berlin Wall which
are colored and painted. As one could know from visiting Berlin, there is only a small part of the Wall
left but at other parts, one could find the position of the wall with marked flagging on the ground.
Additionally, one could buy a piece of the wall as a souvenir. Standing in front of the ruins of the
Berlin wall inspires this realization: Peace is about breaking barriers not building them.
Section three of Patrick Major s book Behind the Berlin Wall: East Germany and the Frontiers of
Power published in 2010 from the Oxford University Press Inc., called The Fall of the Wall: 9
November 1989 is about developing the reasons for the fall of the wall. The author starts with

Sql Vs. Oracle Server
SQL vs. Oracle Server
Dheeraj Balamoori
Wilmington University Abstract
Databases are most paramount part in today s organizations. In the event that the servers are down for
quite a while and data is not accessible there would be enormous misfortune to the organization
regarding income and good will. Thus, databases play an essential part in today s business. There are
various relational database management systems (RDBMS) like Microsoft Access, Sybase, MySQL
and oracle but out of all databases Oracle and MS SQL are the widely used applications throughout
the globe. Oracle databases are unique for having large and abnormal state abilities to handle the
circumstances like data inaccessibility, support issues, information and system failures and so forth.
Microsoft SQL Server database has the usefulness of high information accessibility and security
however is not viable as of Oracle s because it has good depth in high data availability. As Oracle is
having more enterprise applications the databse is used widely for most of the top financial companies
like bank of America, HDFC Bank, National Australia Bank
Introduction
Since their presentation in the 1980s, relational database administration frameworks (RDBMS) have
turned into the standard database sort for an assortment of commercial ventures. As their name
suggests, these systems are focused around the social model that sorts out information into gatherings
of tables alluded to as relations.

John Wayne As An Example Of A Revisionist Western Film
The Western genre been highly prevalent in Hollywood films for decades. Beginning with The Great
Train Robbery in 1903, Western films have gained international many parts of Europe and Mexico in
addition to the United States. One classic example of a Western feature (full length) film is True Grit
(1969), which stars John Wayne as the strong, memorable protagonist, Rooster Cogburn. Although the
film follows many filmic conventions regarding the formula of the Western genre, it also defies certain
conventions, thus serving as an example of a revisionist Western. These qualities also carry over into
the recent remake, True Grit (2010), which contains the same plot as the original while making use of
modern cinematic techniques in order to make the film more exciting, dramatic and accessible for a
modern audience. Prior to the release of True Grit (1969), John Wayne had played starring roles in
countless other Western films, including Stagecoach (1939) and The Searchers (1956). By the 1960s,
John Wayne gained vast recognition among many audiences as the definitive celluloid icon of the
American Western. John Wayne?s popularity within Hollywood grew largely during the 1950s, during
the rise of revisionist western films. In addition, the film?s setting is consistent with previous films in
the genre. A small portion of the plot is set in a small town in Arkansas, while the bulk is set in the
sporadically populated, mountainous Indian Territory. There are several scenes in which

Thucydides at His Best Essays
The true essence of human nature is seen during times of great hardships as can be seen comparing
Pericles Funeral Oration and the plague in Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian War.
Thucydides accounts for many different aspects of justice, power, and human nature through his text.
The order, the style of his writing, choice of words, and relations of what he believes actually
happened, allows the reader to make different inferences about the message he s trying to convey. The
juxtaposition of the two stories portrays many different characteristics to investigate and analyze.
The question can be raised, why compare the funeral oration and the plague with each other, the
answer simply lies in its order. Thucydides shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also shows that when powerful speakers used rhetoric, they would exaggerate. Pericles allowed the
people to feel their city wouldn t be able to be destroyed, but the conceit he had for the city didn t turn
out to be true.
In the funeral oration there is a visual of continuous strength, courage, unity, fighting, and power that
is building this great city called Athens, but then when looking at the plague, you see it break apart.
Thucydides mentions the steps and characteristics of the symptoms the plague had on the human body.
He describes it so that the reader sees how the plague affected the body, breaking it down organ by
organ. This can relate to the breakdown of Athens due to the plague. It takes this one disease to take
one human life as well as a strongly built city. He also shows the breakdown of the city by describing
the setting, instead of seeing an orderly city with its beautifully established buildings, you d find dead
people lying one on top of the other in the streets, sick people at the fountains, mostly signs of death
around every corner.
The plague began with a high fever to the head and made its way down to the different parts of the
body, destroying it along the way, leaving its mark wherever possible. The same can be said for the
city. The plague hit the structure of the city, and destroyed it little by little, just as it destroyed the
different parts of the body, eventually causing a break down of the empire, the same empire that

How Does Shakespeare Present Humanism In The Tempest
Humanism is a belief that human needs and values are more significant than religious beliefs, or the
needs and desires of humans. In the play, The Tempest by William Shakespeare is one of the most
intellectual and ideological of all Shakespeare s works, reflecting Renaissance ideals, and extremely
amenable to discussion and explanation. Among the last works of a mature and practical playwright, it
is one of Shakespeare s most significant commentaries upon the conduct of real human beings and
practical government in a modern state. The Tempest displays elements of humanism through many of
its lead characters. Also, in sonnet 18 by Shakespeare portrays humanism by the love for people. In
the fifteenth century the idea of humanism stemmed first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the play there are several scenes that represent humanism. For instance, when Prospero
had his dukedom usurped by his brother and the King of Naples, and Prospero was later exiled
(Shakespeare, 502 503). Prospero feels cheated and abandoned, and started to hate Antonio and
Alonso. Prospero s feeling of hatred begins to drive him to plot vengeance to make justice balanced.
When the moment arrives to initiate his plan, much of the actions Prospero took seem hostile.
Conjuring a storm and causing contention and confusion among the noblemen certainly is not friendly.
Prospero wants to recreate the scenes of his forced exile by the noblemen so that the nobleman can see
the pain that Prospero went through. As humans, the feeling of love and hatred usually precedes
motivation. That feeling of motivation will often dictate whether or not an event will be hostile.
Sometimes when an event occurs, it is possible that the feeling may change, which will bring a
different perspective and thus a different motivation to act. Prospero does embody the humanism
movement. In this quote The Tempest as a humanist play implies through Prospero s abjuration of
magic, his return to Milan, and the restoration of a civil order that the ultimate end of these acts in
which man governs his life depends upon a human being, not the upheaval of magic (Stanivukovic).

Sharecropping In The 1800 s
America throughout the late 1800 s was extremely separated. A large majority of the United States
was segregated due to the vast majority of different races, especially the African American race.
During this time, African Americans were newly freed from slavery. A large amount of the white men
was extremely unhappy with the changes taking place and a large amount took it upon themselves to
treat the African Americans as unequal as possible. The blacks were left with nearly nothing.
Eventually, an idea called sharecropping was developed. Sharecropping was to benefit both of those
who could not afford land and the landowner himself. The freed African Americans were very

Letters and postcards sent to and from soldiers in the front were heavily censored. The government did
not want morale to drop on the front line or back at home. Moreover, there is much evidence to show
that soldier s censored their own messages to their family and friends, by not revealing the truth about

February 16 Introduction In this lab, the equilibrium constant is determined for the following reaction
between iron cations and thiocyanate anions: Fe3+ (aq) + SCN (aq) ⇌ FeSCN2+. First of all,
equilibrium is the balance of the macroscopic variables in a reaction; they don t change over time. The
reaction still takes place, but the rates of the forward and backward reactions are equal.1 The
equilibrium constant for the reaction in this experiment is K_c=[FeSCN^(2+) ]/([Fe^(3+) ][SCN^ ]) .

Poor Electricity Supply And Lack Of Internet Connectivity
3.1. 3 Poor Electricity Supply and Lack of Internet Connectivity
Lack of constant supply of electricity has also been identified by many researchers as a major barrier
to a successful wider implementation and adoption of EHR in this region (Oluoch, et al., 2012;
Awokola, et al., 2012; Pantuvo et al., 2011). For instance, Awokola and colleagues reported that for
many months, they could not use the EHR consistently because of constant power outage. On some
occasions, the power packs in some central processing units of the table top computers got damaged
and had to be replaced. In addition, Pantuvo et al. (2011) stated that many hospitals in this region do
not have access to constant electricity supply. In fact, many hospitals depend mainly on the alternative
power supply commonly called generator for their operations. Due to the infrastructure problems
throughout the country and lack of guarantee of always on internet connection or even ensure an
uninterrupted electrical supply, nationwide adoption/ wider implementation of EHR in Nigeria may
not be possible (Chaplin et al., 2015). Furthermore, the study conducted on the use of health

The Veil is not Mandatory in Islam Essay
Over the years many scholars have argued on the interpretation of the Qur an on the verses that relate
to the hijab (veil). A few debated that is not fard (mandatory) and only Sunnah (choice). The majority
though won and it was decided that the hijab is mandatory in Islam based on verses in the Qur an and
hadeeths said by the prophet and passed on by others. Misinterpretations can be made, although by the
majority at times, and I think they made an incorrect assumption in this matter. Nowhere in the Qur an
is it stated that a woman should cover her hair.
Some may say that the hijab is clearly stated in Surat noor and that there is no question about it. The
verse most people refer to is the one that says: And say to the believing women ... Show more content

It is true, men should lower their gaze, but at the same time women should wear reverently and not
reveal parts that attract men and cause fitna. The definition of fitna is to seduce, lure, or tempt. Most
of the time, women are a fitna to men and that is why they should attempt to be considerate and dress
wisely to not be bothered and avoid facing sexual harassment. Wearing loose clothes is one thing, and
covering your hair is another. Some may have beautiful hair but I suppose that the body is more
attractive to a man than just hair is, and that is why the hijab is to cover yourself and not necessarily
your hair, or only if you chose to. It is choice, not obligation.
After choosing the Qur anic verse, I now want to talk about a hadeeth about the veil which if was
accurate would have been very clear and convincing to anyone. It is the one that told us about Asma
bint Abi Bakr s visit to see the prophet wearing a thin dress and was told by the prophet and I quote:

parts of body except this and this, and he pointed to her face and hands. This event apparently was told
to Aisha who told some one and who reached Abu Dawood who shared it with all. Many scholars have

Normative Definition Of Deviance
The first question deals with the issue of deviance being defined by a normative definition. The fist
major issue with that is in the definition. We all define deviance as something else. What someone else
finds to be deviant another person will find to be totally normal. That is where the issue lies. How can
we have something called normative definition of deviance. Is it what the society as a whole thinks are
normal or should we take the things that some small groups also consider to be deviant. Also, this gets
into when does something become deviant. If some people believe that sex before marriage is a
deviant act and other feel that it is not how can we come to a consensus of what is a deviant act. This
why is the act normal just because they have gotten married. Would it still be considered normal if the
couple was 12 and decided to get married to have sex? They are still in a marriage and have decided to
not have sex before that marriage. This for most would be considered a deviant act in America, but if
we go to other parts of the world where the life span is not that long than the act becomes less deviant.
So yes, in a way society defines deviance, but that definition cannot simply be something that some
people consider deviant. Everything is considered deviant by someone, and everything is not
considered deviant by someone else. Someone will always be willing to condemn an action and
someone will be ready to defend that same action. It is not safe to say that just

Essay On Anne Frank
World War II took away many things from people; loved ones, homes, personal possessions, from
Anne Frank the war took away her childhood. When she was still a young girl she had to move to a

The Prince And Discourse On Livy
In his famous works, The Prince and Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli meticulously discusses the
importance of religion in the formation and maintaining a political order. Machiavelli regards religion
as a political tool used by political elites for political purposes. He argues that the appearance of
religion is good while the practice of it is harmful. One of the memorable passage from the Prince that
supports Machiavelli s claim is when he advices the prince to not to be good, and the prince should
cultivate the appearance of the religion if he wants to maintain his state. The prince, he writes, should
appear all mercy, all faith, all honesty, all human, all religion he adds and nothing is more necessary to
have than this last quality (The Prince, 70). Here, Machiavelli argues, in order for the prince to
maintain his state, it is necessary for the prince to go to the source of morality and by this he means
religion. Thus, Machiavelli view on religion is nothing but a necessary tool for maintaining a political
authority.
Furthermore, Machiavelli stresses the importance of the religion as a political mean to control and
govern the masses. In the Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli uses the example of how Numa the founder
of Roman religion, manipulates the Roman people by using religion to maintain order and peace.
Machiavelli praises the wisdom of Numa for inventing a religion to control a very ferocious Romans.
In praising Numa, Machiavelli writes: As he found a very

The Philosophy Of Total Quality Management
Total Quality Management (TQM) is the art of managing quality of whole activities of any
organization. TQM is a philosophy and we can say it is also a set of guiding principles that represent
the foundation of a continuously improving organization. It is the application to improve all the
processes within an organization and exceed customer needs issues of customer satisfaction and
guidance on implementing the marketing concept.
Total quality management deals completely with the quality word. It focuses on the quality of
products, quality of services, quality of management of staff, quality of services deliver to patrons and
so on. So the question is arising what is quality? In general terms quality relates to the feature or
characters or value of a product or service or similar offering.

An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Attempts to implement TQM regularly fail because top management does not lead and get committed
instead it delegates and pays edge service. Commitment and personal involvement is required from
top management in creating and deploying clear quality values and goals consistent with the
objectives of the organization, and in creating and deploying definite systems, methods and
performance measures for achieving those goals. These systems and methods guide all quality
activities and encourage participation by all employees.
Continuous improvement
Continuous improvement of all activities is at the heart of TQM. it is recognized that customer
satisfaction can only be obtained by providing a high quality product, continuous improvement of the
quality of the product. It is seen as the only way to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. As
well as recognizing the connection between product quality and customer satisfaction, TQM also
recognizes that product quality is the result of process quality. As a result, there is a focus on
continuous improvement of the organization s processes.

250 Word Post Analysis
When it comes to creating blogs for a law firm, the length of the post is going to depend upon the firm
s focus and goals. A 250 word post is not going to achieve the same results as a 1,200 word post, and
that must be taken into account when picking what word count is right for your company.
250 word posts I have found that posts of this level are great for simple safety tips, which make them
great for personal injury lawyers. For my example post, I found a recent bicycle accident in Salt Lake
City and offered bike safety tips.
600 word posts For a post of this length, I can go into a little more detail. I will generally try to
include more links to laws or other authoritative sources. For example, in the post about child custody
in Massachusetts, I provided links to the Massachusetts legislature, allowing readers to see the exact
wording of the laws.
900 word post I think is the perfect level for deeper topics, particularly those that may be not well
understood by the average client. I chose to focus on brain injuries because I felt these are injuries
those seeking the services of a personal injury attorney may have experienced. ... Show more content

For my post, I looked at some misconceptions about domestic violence and offered some basic advice
for those trying to get away from an abusive relationship. Because many potential law firm clients
come to the site looking for quick information, these posts might not be something a law firm would
use every week. They may want to buy shorter posts on a weekly basis and one 1,200 word post each
month. I think they would work well for a firm that has lawyers that focus on different types of law.
One month could be a personal injury post. The next month might be divorce advice. A third month
might focus on DUI advice. After several months, they would have in depth posts on several areas of

  • 2. Bilbo Coming Of Age Essay The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien is a perfect example of a coming of age story. Bilbo, the main protagonist, started his journey as a sheltered hobbit. It was clear that he had potential to do something great, but his own insecurities and his fear to stand out crippled his progression in life. He didn t leave his house often, and he hardly took any risks. He failed to grow as an individual. Bilbo throughout the book he experienced personal growth through his encounter with the goblins he, he became confident through the events that happened at Mirkwood, and when he returned home at the end of the journey, he was filled with self love and pride. At the beginning of the book, Bilbo told Gandalf that he did not want anything to do with the journey. He feared for his safety, and he had nightmares the night before the journey started. However, throughout his journey, he bonded and learned a lot from the dwarves. He found out who he really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The genre is thriller and the sub genre suspense infused with mystery. Therefore, Rear Window one of Alfred Hitchcock s highly inspired audience participation films. When a person watches it, he feels, tantalized, shocked, and exhilarated. Further in this essay, I will summarize the plots, discuss the styles used, and deconstruct parts of the film. The protagonist film is Jeff who is photographer that broke one of his legs and is sitting in a wheel chair by his apartment window. Having nothing to achieve, Jeff gets very board he peeks at his neighbor s room from his rear window. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on what s happening inside his neighborhood. Allowing the audience to stay focused, as we become voyeurs watching the various dramas unfolding. Moreover, Alfred Hitchcock has unlimited technical brilliance with a boundless ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. Using the techniques of dramatic variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting from long shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film raise attention to the events that unfold in front of us. The shots in the movie are edited in a relatively subjective style. According to Hitchcock Editing shouldn t be in terms of cutting but rather in terms of assembly or Mosaic (Hitchcok, 1963, p.4). Therefor, Montage is the process or technique of selecting and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous sequence. When two shots juxtapose in such a way it gives the third shot another meaning. This is one classic examples of Alfred Hitchcock s way of thinking. The voyeurism practiced in the film makes the audience conscious of why the protagonist is behaving in a certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Camera Techniques In Psycho CS8119 Fictional Film From Hollywood to Bollywood Mid Term Paper Galada Aditya U1422406K SIR ALFRED HITCHCOCK Filmmaker Sir Alfred Hitchcock was nicknamed The Master of Suspense . Hitchcock s films are recognised for their thrilling plots revolving around violence, murder and crime. His distinctive directorial style was a result of the unmistakeable presence of psychological suspense. Over the course of his career which spanned over six decades, Hitchcock has directed more than 50 feature films. PSYCHO BACKGROUND Psycho is undeniably Hitchcock s masterpiece. It is definitely one of the most exceptional and suspense filled thrillers in the history of cinema. The shower scene is carefully crafted sequence of 78 pieces of film. It exhibits various camera movements and transitions within a matter of seconds. This technique was totally unheard of in that era. Psycho thereby ushered in a new era of cinematic horror. And cinema has not been the same ever since. There is a brief portrayal of sexual imagery in the frame as the camera cuts into a low angle shot and Marion removes her bath robe. A crab shot, still maintaining a low angle, then tracks Marion as she moves into the shower and pulls the curtain. Hint of vulnerability is dropped as Marion is now naked which is soon followed by her horrific murder in the following shots. • 5. Justice Is One Of The Most Important Moral And Political... Justice is one of the most important moral and political concepts. The word comes from the Latin jus, meaning right or law. Since the beginning of time, injustice has been an issue each individual has experienced during his or her daily lives. Even today we still are experiencing riots and protests from African American in order to achieve justice. In Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 by Anna Deavere Smith we see an example of injustice through the Rodney King case and the shooting of Latasha Harlins. Rodney King and Latasha Harlins experienced racial injustice, which can be defined as the denial of rights based on an individual s race or racial background. Both two victims were mistreated for the color of their skin and were stripped from their equal rights and opportunities. In Los Angeles, California, four Los Angeles police officers had been caught beating an unarmed African American motorist, Rodney King. Rodney King had severe injuries due to the beating. On April 23, the King trial jury begins its deliberations, and hours later the verdict was announced and the officers were found innocent. In the presentation by Dr. Taylor, she stated prosecutors provide evidence, and the defense provides evidence and the two halves create a whole story (Dr. Taylor). This is stating that when justice is involved, hearing both stories help put compose the concrete truth of what transpired and occurred. Hybrid Cars And Hybrid Electric Vehicles In the present generation where automobiles are very important in daily life, there is two types of cars i.e. Gasoline vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles, hybrid electric cars which used quite a while but not as much as their gasoline counterparts. The difference between these two cars is mainly the Engine, tank, and the source on which the cars work. The hybrid electric vehicle is more a computerized and electric version where it switch between running on gasoline and electricity. • 9. Myocardial Tuberculosis Research Paper Tuberculosis(TB) is a highly contagious disease that primarily affects the lungs, although it can also be found in other body parts. The disorder is caused by a bacteria called myocardial tuberculosis, and is mostly spread through the air when an infected person coughs. Many years ago, tuberculosis accounted for nearly 30% of deaths in the US. In the 1940 s and 50 s, however, its fatality rate dropped significantly due to antibiotics and vaccinations. Since the outbreak of AIDS, tuberculosis has increasingly been an issue again since people with the disease cannot fight off TB (Bontrager Lampignano 2005, Basic TB Facts 2012). Although highly contagious through air, TB cannot be contracted from shaking hands or sharing a drink. The most common symptoms include severe coughing, coughing up blood, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, chills, night sweats, and fever. When a person has tuberculosis but has no symptoms and cannot spread it, they have latent TB. People who have latent TB can have it for years without knowing because it is not noticeable until it reaches TB disease and becomes active. Usually latent TB turns to TB disease when the immune system becomes weak and cannot fight it off, and then turns contagious (Basic TB Facts 2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), per capita national health expenditures totaled $9,255 and total national health care expenditures totaled $2.9 trillion in 2013 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). Despite the substantial amount of money spent on health care in the United States, gaps existed in the health insurance system that failed to provide adequate coverage to a significant proportion of the population. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2013, annual premiums for individual coverage averaged $5,884 and $16,351 for family coverage. This equated to workers spending $83/month for individual coverage and $380/month for family coverage (Majerol et al., 2015). Despite the significant cost of health insurance for individuals and their families, the cost of coverage offered was not linked to favorable health outcomes. This begs the question: was it worth it for workers to spend their limited financial resources on health care coverage? Adults less than 65 years of age from low or moderate income families comprise the majority of uninsured Americans because Medicare covers health insurance for elderly adults greater than age 65. Furthermore, adults were more likely to lack health insurance than children because Medicaid and the Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provide health insurance coverage for children. Minorities were much more likely to be uninsured than whites and the majority of the uninsured population were native or naturalized United States citizens (Majerol et al., 2015). Non citizens residing in the U.S. had poor access to employer sponsored health care coverage because they were more likely to be employed in jobs with poor wage compensation and industries that did not offer health care coverage. • 12. Theme Of Deceit In The Odyssey Leading themes in The Odyssey include humility, perseverance, and deceit. Deceit guides some of the characters actions, and it also moves the story forward. The poem showcases deception as a common tool among both the antagonists and the protagonists. Each group utilizes their wits with various intentions ranging from maintaining fidelity, self preservation, and murder. Their lies and illusions usually solve their problems and allow them to help others. For example, Odysseus s deceptions help him defeat adversaries and also help him return home. He and other characters deploy duplicity to achieve better ends, and that shows that duplicity in the poem is not always negative. Furthermore, the deceiving actions of the characters also reveal that skills in deceit are valuable and critical to the tale, and that the original storytellers respected those skills. The Ancient Greeks valued the ability to deceive as evidenced by The Odyssey through the depiction of certain characters such as Penelope, Odysseus, Athena, and Hermes. By the poem s telling of Penelope s story, it shows that people end up respecting skills in deceit and cleverness. Penelope s story goes as follows: she resorts to deceit in order to remain faithful to her husband. No one in the poem disapproves of her deceitful actions except the people she dupes. Afterward, readers remember Penelope for her unwavering fidelity, and also for her tricks to keep it. The first trick readers encounter involves Penelope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That place is in their home, which is the starting place for nearly all national polling. What I don t understand is that Gallup excludes college students living on campus, armed forces living on military bases, prisoners, hospitalized people, and anyone else who is living institutionalized. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing I found interesting in this article is that Gallup as well as other major organizations use sample sizes of 1,000 1,500 because these sample sizes are enough to give a good balance of accuracy opposed to much larger samples which would be very expensive. I hadn t considered expense when it comes to collecting a sample but apparently it can be very costly. For instance, if a sample size of 4,000 were selected each time there was a poll, the increase in accuracy would be very small, and would not justify the increase in cost. Now, I believe this to be true because I do think that the people behind things like the Gallop Poll are very smart statisticians and would not lie when it comes to what effects the sample size has on the accuracy of results. It makes absolute sense to me that specific ways of measuring the accuracy of samples have been done for many years and the processes and results have been analyzed thoroughly with each design. The poll of such a small number of people do not invalidate the results since for instance, as stated in the article, if the sample size was raised to 2,000 instead of 1,000, for a Gallup Poll there would be a gain of only 1% in terms of accuracy, and a 100% increase in terms of cost. I can understand that looking at results with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points is reasonable compared to spending a lot more money and only change the margin of error by ... One day in class, Mr. Conroy tries to collect the students prior knowledge. This quotation clearly demonstrates that the government almost completely neglected the students of Yamacraw Island. The students cannot even comprehend the name of the land that they stand on, which focuses on survival in the modern world. The title of the book, The Water is Wide, stands as an appropriate choice because the small river exists as the only thing separating Yamacraw Island from the rich, fulfilled life of the outside world. The graphic imagery and designs evolve until production begins. There are undoubtedly many considerations into a building s design, which stresses their representation as even more important and influential to its potential construction. Elevation drawings and plans lay out the details of construction, they are useful to ensure the structure adheres to any local codes, however more detailed drawings are required for construction known as final renderings.1 Drawings are therefore a fundamental form of documentation that informs a building s production. On the other hand, the emergence of archigram in the post war era encouraged the imagination and was a platform that challenged previous form of representation. Archigram placed as much influence on the context of the building and depicting its urban surrounding as much as emphasising the building itself. In addition, architectural photography provoked the emergence of modern forms and structures; however, contextualizing buildings within the image was unnecessary. It was believed that architecture could reform people architecture is the art one lives in and thus rational design could make rational societies.2 This idea was very much a driving force of representation which drawings, photography and archigram intended to reform their urban landscape. • 22. The King In Oedipus The King In the popular Greek tragedy Oedipus the King, the plot shows how a single bad trait can lead to the fall of a once great man. The author Sophocles portrays the story of the titular where a hero rises to fame after solving the city of Thebes great riddle. The solution to the riddle frees Thebes of its curse from the Sphinx and relieves the city s misery. Although Oedipus is praised and crowned king for freeing the city, he is not entirely a good man. Oedipus is very arrogant, which causes him to make several bad decisions. Through the story of Oedipus the King, Sophocles warns readers not to let arrogance blind them from reality, for it will eventually result in tremendous suffering. At the beginning of this Greek drama, Oedipus is blind due to his arrogance. For example, when the city is in shambles and the Chorus marches around the altar praying to the gods, Oedipus walks in and says to them, You pray to the gods? Let me grant your prayers (245). He believes he can answer the people of Thebes prayers. Additionally, Oedipus is convinced he has god like powers because of his role as king and his previous success in solving the Sphinx s riddle. His past leads him to believe he is always right, which is exactly what happens when he encounters the prophet. Oedipus says, Blind, / lost in the night, endless night that nursed you! / You can t hurt me or anyone else who sees the light / you can never touch me (425 28). Oedipus attacks the prophet with insults for saying that he was the one that killed Laius. Again, Oedipus reveals his exaggerated sense of his own abilities and believes that it is impossible for him to be wrong. Oedipus considers himself to be one of the fortunate who are able to see the light (427) and cannot be steered in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, in King Oedipus case, his high ego leads to his great demise. As this drama progresses, Oedipus begins connecting the dots and restoring his vision. When Jocasta explains how her husband died to Oedipus, he says, I have a terrible fear the blind seer can see (823). Oedipus is now suspecting that the prophecy is true because of the similarities between Laius death and the man he had killed. He begins to stop worrying about his ego and ... • 28. The Pros And Cons Of The Berlin Wall Usually walls are put into places to avoid people to cross borders and keep peace but they destroy peace. Recently one could have heard in the News that Trump wants the Mexicans to pay for a wall between Mexico and the United States. This Wall should make it impossible for people to cross the border unofficially. As one could know from history classes, we had a wall in Germany for many years which was built by the winner countries of the second world war for a similar reason. Before the Wall, many people from East Germany tried to escape to West Germany where they had obviously better living conditions. It divided Germany in East and West Germany. Additionally, there was a part of Berlin, what was in the East German part, isolated from a huge wall that belonged to West Germany. This wall made it hard for the citizens of East Germany to visit West Germany. The Government of East Germany had other principles than the government of West Germany and it was not in the interest of the East German government to show their citizens how good their life could be in West Germany. After the falling of the Wall, it was possible for everyone to travel in Germany whenever they want without standing in line at the borders. But there was a big gap in wealth between East and West Germany. Even today the loans in West Germany are lower and the federal states have less money than the ones in West Germany. But in Berlin, one can visit ruins of the Berlin Wall which are colored and painted. As one could know from visiting Berlin, there is only a small part of the Wall left but at other parts, one could find the position of the wall with marked flagging on the ground. Additionally, one could buy a piece of the wall as a souvenir. Standing in front of the ruins of the Berlin wall inspires this realization: Peace is about breaking barriers not building them. Section three of Patrick Major s book Behind the Berlin Wall: East Germany and the Frontiers of Power published in 2010 from the Oxford University Press Inc., called The Fall of the Wall: 9 November 1989 is about developing the reasons for the fall of the wall. The author starts with describing the political, financial and economic situation in East Germany and the other eastern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. John Wayne As An Example Of A Revisionist Western Film The Western genre been highly prevalent in Hollywood films for decades. Beginning with The Great Train Robbery in 1903, Western films have gained international many parts of Europe and Mexico in addition to the United States. One classic example of a Western feature (full length) film is True Grit (1969), which stars John Wayne as the strong, memorable protagonist, Rooster Cogburn. Although the film follows many filmic conventions regarding the formula of the Western genre, it also defies certain conventions, thus serving as an example of a revisionist Western. These qualities also carry over into the recent remake, True Grit (2010), which contains the same plot as the original while making use of modern cinematic techniques in order to make the film more exciting, dramatic and accessible for a modern audience. Prior to the release of True Grit (1969), John Wayne had played starring roles in countless other Western films, including Stagecoach (1939) and The Searchers (1956). By the 1960s, John Wayne gained vast recognition among many audiences as the definitive celluloid icon of the American Western. John Wayne?s popularity within Hollywood grew largely during the 1950s, during the rise of revisionist western films. In addition, the film?s setting is consistent with previous films in the genre. Thucydides at His Best Essays The true essence of human nature is seen during times of great hardships as can be seen comparing Pericles Funeral Oration and the plague in Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian War. Thucydides accounts for many different aspects of justice, power, and human nature through his text. The order, the style of his writing, choice of words, and relations of what he believes actually happened, allows the reader to make different inferences about the message he s trying to convey. The juxtaposition of the two stories portrays many different characteristics to investigate and analyze. Pericles allowed the people to feel their city wouldn t be able to be destroyed, but the conceit he had for the city didn t turn out to be true. In the funeral oration there is a visual of continuous strength, courage, unity, fighting, and power that is building this great city called Athens, but then when looking at the plague, you see it break apart. Thucydides mentions the steps and characteristics of the symptoms the plague had on the human body. He describes it so that the reader sees how the plague affected the body, breaking it down organ by organ. This can relate to the breakdown of Athens due to the plague. It takes this one disease to take one human life as well as a strongly built city. He also shows the breakdown of the city by describing the setting, instead of seeing an orderly city with its beautifully established buildings, you d find dead people lying one on top of the other in the streets, sick people at the fountains, mostly signs of death around every corner. The plague began with a high fever to the head and made its way down to the different parts of the body, destroying it along the way, leaving its mark wherever possible. The same can be said for the city. The plague hit the structure of the city, and destroyed it little by little, just as it destroyed the different parts of the body, eventually causing a break down of the empire, the same empire that ... In the play, The Tempest by William Shakespeare is one of the most intellectual and ideological of all Shakespeare s works, reflecting Renaissance ideals, and extremely amenable to discussion and explanation. Among the last works of a mature and practical playwright, it is one of Shakespeare s most significant commentaries upon the conduct of real human beings and practical government in a modern state. For instance, when Prospero had his dukedom usurped by his brother and the King of Naples, and Prospero was later exiled (Shakespeare, 502 503). Prospero feels cheated and abandoned, and started to hate Antonio and Alonso. Prospero s feeling of hatred begins to drive him to plot vengeance to make justice balanced. When the moment arrives to initiate his plan, much of the actions Prospero took seem hostile. Conjuring a storm and causing contention and confusion among the noblemen certainly is not friendly. Prospero wants to recreate the scenes of his forced exile by the noblemen so that the nobleman can see the pain that Prospero went through. As humans, the feeling of love and hatred usually precedes motivation. That feeling of motivation will often dictate whether or not an event will be hostile. Sometimes when an event occurs, it is possible that the feeling may change, which will bring a different perspective and thus a different motivation to act. Prospero does embody the humanism movement. In this quote The Tempest as a humanist play implies through Prospero s abjuration of magic, his return to Milan, and the restoration of a civil order that the ultimate end of these acts in which man governs his life depends upon a human being, not the upheaval of magic (Stanivukovic). • 41. Normative Definition Of Deviance The first question deals with the issue of deviance being defined by a normative definition. The fist major issue with that is in the definition. We all define deviance as something else. What someone else finds to be deviant another person will find to be totally normal. That is where the issue lies. How can we have something called normative definition of deviance. Is it what the society as a whole thinks are normal or should we take the things that some small groups also consider to be deviant. Also, this gets into when does something become deviant. If some people believe that sex before marriage is a deviant act and other feel that it is not how can we come to a consensus of what is a deviant act. This why is the act normal just because they have gotten married. Would it still be considered normal if the couple was 12 and decided to get married to have sex? They are still in a marriage and have decided to not have sex before that marriage. This for most would be considered a deviant act in America, but if we go to other parts of the world where the life span is not that long than the act becomes less deviant. So yes, in a way society defines deviance, but that definition cannot simply be something that some people consider deviant. Everything is considered deviant by someone, and everything is not considered deviant by someone else. Someone will always be willing to condemn an action and someone will be ready to defend that same action. It is not safe to say that just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Prince And Discourse On Livy In his famous works, The Prince and Discourse on Livy, Machiavelli meticulously discusses the importance of religion in the formation and maintaining a political order. Machiavelli regards religion as a political tool used by political elites for political purposes. He argues that the appearance of religion is good while the practice of it is harmful. One of the memorable passage from the Prince that supports Machiavelli s claim is when he advices the prince to not to be good, and the prince should cultivate the appearance of the religion if he wants to maintain his state. The prince, he writes, should appear all mercy, all faith, all honesty, all human, all religion he adds and nothing is more necessary to have than this last quality (The Prince, 70). Here, Machiavelli argues, in order for the prince to maintain his state, it is necessary for the prince to go to the source of morality and by this he means religion. Thus, Machiavelli view on religion is nothing but a necessary tool for maintaining a political authority. Furthermore, Machiavelli stresses the importance of the religion as a political mean to control and govern the masses.
