Dr. Hannibal Lecter s The Silence Of The Lambs
Title of Paper
In the book silence of the lambs (Harris, 1988) as well as the movie (Demme,1991) The Silence
of the Lambs deals with a young FBI cadet who is sent to interview a captured madman to find
out about a serial killer who is stripping the skin from his female victims after they die. The FBI
has had no luck with the case and agent Jack Crawford tries to throw a curve ball to Dr. Hannibal
Lecter by sending Clarice Starling. Lecter is a former doctor of Levine and holds the clues to
capturing the unknown criminal. Needless to say the book and film takes many twists and turns,
creating a suspenseful thriller that has no equal. At the heart of The Silence of the Lambs are the
confrontations between Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling. ... Show more content on

The two lapses in security only happen when Barney had the days off (Harris P. 236) it took him
more than six months to make the handcuff key. In the movie he gets a pen from Chilton and only
leaves about a week or two for to make the key.
Chapter 38 The ambulance slowing to a stop in traffic on the sixlane freeway, drivers behind it
confused and honking, hesitant to pull around an emergency vehicle. Two small pops like
backfires in the traffic and the ambulance started up again. (Harris P. 250) in the movie you see
Lecter take off the mask from the officer that he killed and then some commotion in the
ambulance and that is all. In chapter 47 Clarice is in the laundry room going over Buffalo Bills
case files and comes up that who was killed first and who was killed second the FBI off she was
by herself (Harris P. 295) in the movie it shows her and her roommate in the laundry. There is
many other things in the book there are different from the movie but one of the big things that
happen in the book is in the last chapter when Lecter wrights to Clarice saying. I have no plans to
call on you, Clarice, the world being more interesting with you in it. Be sure you extend me the
same courtesy . Dr. Lecter touched his pen to his lips. He looked out at the night sky and

Hollywood s Asians Essay
Hollywood s Asians
Asian Americans have been part of America for almost as long as its existence. From the Chinese
laborers building the transcontinental railway, inner cities laundry services, to Asian farmers who
have helped build the agriculture communities around the country, Asian American have
contributed to the industries and economy of America. Despite their loyalty and contributions to
this country, Asian Americans have been discriminated and considered as unassimilable by many
Americans. Racism toward Asian is further extended by Hollywood s use of yellow face, where
Caucasian actors applied make up and prosthetics to pose as Asians, stereotypes such yellow peril
and orientalism. (Garcia, 13) From the beginning of motion ... Show more content on

As the popularity of Fu Manchu increased, Hollywood was quick to take advantage and portray this
character as a threat to white supremacy.
According to Eugene Franklin Wong s The Early Years: Asians in the American Films Prior to
World War II, Rohmer, the creator of Fu Manchu stated I MADE MY MANE ON FU MANCHU
BECAUSE I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT the Chinese... I know something about Chinatown. But
that is a different matter. (Wong, 57) This presented a problem as the whole perception of Dr. Fu
Manchu was based on generalization and ignorance. Unfortunately, ignorance of Asian culture
became the root of Asian characters in motion pictures. The ambiguity and general facelessness of
Asian characters and communities lead to the creation of a low budget film called Chan is Missing
(1981) by Wayne Wang. As two amateur detective cab drivers search the San Francisco s
Chinatown for the mysterious Chan, but never do find him or even reach any conclusion about
why he is missing. (Marchetti, 53)

On the other hand, Hollywood s depictions of different ethnic Asian are not always negative or
evoke racism. As the news Japan s military growth and reaches the shores of America, characters
such as Fu Manchu and General Yen which portrayed dangerous Chinese warlords disappear from
the screen. The Japanese Imperialist troops became the replace for the stereotypical evil Asian
characters. (Marchetti, 41) Scene of Japanese troops

How Does Richard Matheson Use Cgi In Modern Disaster Films
The use of CGI (computer generated imagery) has become a prevalent, although rather expensive
element implemented in modern films, especially of the disaster film genre. Audiences worldwide
are proving to be more difficult to amaze, and are not impressed so easily. Most moviegoers are
quick witted and even the slightest production error on screen can deter people from enjoying and
sometimes understanding the film. It is no secret that the general consensus in Hollywood is
focused to create the biggest, and most gruesome disaster situations on screen using special effects
and CGI in order to shock and awe their audiences. When studios act this way while producing a
film, they often ignore plot holes, and lack of substance in storylines in lieu... Show more content on

In both films, this universal attachment to the protagonist is established, but in The Last Man on
Earth Robert eventually is hunted down by the new society of intelligient vampires who had
been searching for him after he destroyed the vampires friends and family for his experiments in
hope to find a cure for the disease. [Robert] is seen by these intelligent vampires as not only an
evolutionary throw back but a serious threat as he indiscriminately destroys vampires both
monstrous and intelligent during his daylight rampages. As the monster who comes during one s
sleep, [Robert] is captured and condemned to public execution. (Moreman). This twist in plot,
creates a semi original idea that holds true to the theme in the preceding novel, in a new society of
vampires, Robert has seen himself become a murderous human, the last of his kind. I Am Legend,
however ironic as it may seem because of the films shares the title with the novel, strays away from
this ending and instead, in this storyline, Robert finds a cure and in his final moments decides to
sacrifice himself for the rest of humanity as he knew it. Yet another Christ like reference to further
instill the legend that Robert has left upon the new wave of society. The film I Am Legend
effectively encapsulated, and in some ways expanded, the attachment

Breast Cancer Reflection
This semester I enrolled a Biology 101 course with Dr. Smith Pearson. One of our assignments
this semester was an outside of the classroom volunteer project. For this project I was selected to
participate in the Tri Beta Breast Cancer Walk. As a participant, I had to do several things to
prepare for the volunteer event including a learning session. During this session, I learned exactly
what breast canceris, the different types, and the main causes. I further learned about breast cancer
through a scientific aspect in my biology class. We learned that cancer is when cells are over
actively reproduced, which is caused by a mutation in the cell cycle that suppresses our bodies
ability to function normally and stop this. Also, we learned about some of the different subtypes
of breast cancer like, HER2+ (ER ), Basal Like (Triple Negative Breast Cancer), Normal Like,
Luminal A, and Luminal B. HER2+ (ER ) breast cancer is less common, but it is very
aggressive. HER2 is a gene in our bodies that produces receptor proteins, which are responsible
for regulating the growth and repair of breast cells. When these HER2 receptor proteins are
expressed too much, it causes excessive reproduction of breast cells. It is thought that African
Americans have a higher risk for this type (Mandell). Basal Like, or more commonly called,
Triple Negative Breast Cancer is very aggressive, usually the most aggressive. Basal like means
that the ways the cells look with this cancer resemble the cells that line the breast ducts (Breast
Cancer Organization). Basal like cancers are more aggressive, just like triple negative breast
cancers. According to research most triple negative breast cancer cells have the basal like cell
type (Breast Cancer Organization). It mostly occurs in premenopausal African American Women
who are under 40. Normal Like breast cancer is called normal like because it looks a lot like
normal breast tissue. The levels of estrogen and progesterone receptors have low expression with
this cancer, and it does not have the epidermal growth receptor (National Breast Cancer
Foundation). Luminal A breast cancer is another cancer that looks a lot like normal breast tissue.
Also, this cancer has low expression of the

the Ark of the Covenant. Israel stayed a part of the Persian Empire for over two hundred years and
during this time the people saw Gods hand moving in their history. From the return of the exiles and

U.S. and Russian Relations After the Defeat of the USSR...
US and Russia relations after the defeat of the USSR:
The end of Cold War brought new challenges to Russian life, economy and politics. Actually, the
post Cold War period opened the new opportunities for
Russia. Democracy made its first steps in the country. After seventy years of communism Russian
people finally got a chance to live how the want, to say what they want and to do what they want.
People got a chance to choose their own leader, to vote for the Congress members. And it was very
confusing for the country. Russia needed somebody to come out and help in this critical situation.
Probably, the first country to do that was the United States. Russians

Each year Americans were increasing the sales of their own products on the Russian market. As I
said earlier, Russia devoted itself to the new type of the economy; with private sector businesses.
But what they could do with all those weapons produced during the Soviet era? And the way out
was found. Russia became the biggest exporter of military ammunition on the world market. The
exports of oil also put Russia on the leading positions in the world. Everything was going just fine.
quot;Russia was moving from pure stabilization to the resumption of economic
Shkolnikov 3 growth quot; (Pickering 103).
The only one thing that was bothering both countries, especially Russia, was the growth of Russian
mafia. In the middle 90 s the level of corruption in the Russian government was very high. Mafia
controlled everything; starting from stores, which pay some percent of their income every month,
and ending with police, which was completely under control of the mafia. The power of mafia
really bothered American businessmen, who didn t want to pay them and didn t want to get shot by
mafia. And since they refused to pay, the number of American businessmen shot in Russia was
growing. But this doesn t really stops Americans from doing business in Russia.
The other problem that Americans were concerned about is nuclear potential of Russia. During the
leadership of the communism the USSR produced huge number of nuclear

Doll House
In A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen, a woman named Nora is facing a life altering situation that
stands to both ruin her social and private life. In dealing with the potential outcomes of the
scenario, Nora comes to find that she has been living a convenient mistruth. Nora s greatest and
most damaging lies are lies she tells to herself.
As is seen numerous times throughout the play, Nora hides, withholds, and distorts the truth in
order to please everyone around her, including herself. Nora is presented almost immediately as a
person of questionable character, wherein the first scene she conceals from Torvald having eaten
macaroons. Torvald says to Nora Not even a bite at a macaroon? after suggesting she had been to

This false reality is damaging her ability to be honest, trustworthy and reliable.
Nora s false reality is partially created because she never forms an opinion of her own. Nora is
always afraid of having an opinion because it will disrupt or upset her husband. Nora s life as an
adult is stunted because she isn t her own person. Nora states that when I was at home with papa,
he told me his opinion about everything, and so I had the same opinions; and if I differed from
him I concealed the fact, because he would not have liked it (III.141) and that I was simply
transferred from papa s hands into yours. You arranged everything according to your own taste,
and so I got the same tastes as your else I pretended to (III. 142). Nora is a woman made to be a
doll, and she plays the role with lies and misdeeds. Nora again demonstrates the lack of opinion.
Nora s life as a deceptive doll is further showcased by the dangerous decisions she makes. Nora
takes out a fraudulent loan against her father s name because she wants something and cannot have
it. Nora realizes the burden her actions can put against her father s name and she realizes the legal
action that can result from fraud. Krogstad, Nora s lender states but did it never occur to you that
you were committing a fraud on me? (II.52). Nora replies that I couldn t take that into account; I
didn t trouble myself about you at all (II.52). Again, when Nora is presented with an opportunity to
make a poor choice

My Passion In Writing
Has writing ever impacted your life? I often write to express my feelings towards situations that are
presented to me. Alternatively, I use writing to settle the rage within myself no matter the subject
matter I always stay true to writing with internal purpose. Writing something down on paper is
much easier for me, it s as though my hand leads my thoughts. It s wonderful to escape and through
writing, I get that feeling. If it was not for me taking speech and given the assignment to write
about something that affected my life I would have never found my passion for writing.
Two weeks into the class I was shaken up when my teacher, Mrs. Murphy gave us a speech topic
that read something that has had a major effect on you . This assignment had to be presented in
front of my peers, but it had to come from a writing assignment. Mrs. Murphy didn t have many
strict requirements for this assignment except she demanded that we present our speech with
passion. After class on my way home many topics ran through my head but none of them actually
stuck. I then took a right, turning into my drive way, seeing my house that is not yet livable since
the flood I knew that this is what I base my assignment on. This was a painful subject for me but I
knew that I could present passion through this topic.
August 16th,2016 many hearts were shattered. Prolonged rainfall in southern parts of
Louisiana resulted in catastrophic flooding that submerged thousands of houses and businesses.

International political economy is an important subdiscipline of international relation. It has three
main ideologies, Liberalism, Mercantilism and Marxism. In this essay there will be three parts, first
part is to demonstrate what the Liberalism and Mercantilism are on the perspective of international
political economy and then the second part is to compare and contrast these two ideologies of
political economy. At last, give a conclusion to the Liberalismand Mercantilism.

Immunization has curbed the emergence of old fatal diseases while preventing the introduction of
new diseases into the community. The purpose of this issue paper is to discuss the health benefits
of childhood immunization. As stated by the world health organization (WHO), immunization has
been a huge yet cost effective factor in decreasing the childhood mortality rate while simultaneously
increasing the life expectancy rate of children across the globe. In this paper, there will be an
outline of the three ways childhood immunization is a health benefit. The three points of discussion

The first recommendation is for every member that surrounds that child to be vaccinated. Parents
should make sure that every member receive immunization as a family. There are public clinics that

about these opportunities which leads to the second recommendation of education. Some parents
and community just don t know the risks of not having their child vaccinated. It is the responsibility
of the government to create programs in every community that will educate the matriarchs of that
community because it is more likely that a child will receive vaccination if the mother or a female
member knows the benefits and risks. The final recommendation would be to introduce health
lifestyle along with the vaccination. While immunization is very effective, good health and

Raisio Group and the Benecol Launch Case Analysis Essay
Raisio Group and the Benecol Launch Case Analysis
Park University
Benecol was launched in 1955 by the company Raisio in Finland ( Benecol, 2010). Benecol has
become a successful additive to multiple product lines due to its unique ingredient of plant stanol
ester. The ingredient has been proven to reduce cholesterol levels and can easily be added to any
food (Grant, 2010). Raisio, up until 1997, produced much of the plant stanol it needed and was self
sufficient in its exploitation of stanol ester technology (Grant, 2010). Raisio then made the decision
to become part of Johnson Johnson in order to gain global marketing, manufacturing, and

Their success was based on its innovation to create technology to extract and produce the main
ingredient in Benecol. By using a differentiation advantage which singled them out in a very
specific market (foods that lower cholesterol) they were able to put plans in place to guarantee
the success of the product. By merging with J J, they create a large market for their product with
multiple distribution capabilities. Because differentiation is only affected when consumers are
made aware, Benecol was marketed widely to lower cholesterol and most people know it now as
a health food (Grant, 2010). The process of innovation and competition is also very important in
the position that Benecol is in its life cycle. The product began with short production runs, with
limited specialized distribution channels in 1996. It then emerged into the growth stage of its life
cycle when it partnered with J J to create multiple product lines, mass production, and competition
for distribution. Benecol seems to be in its Maturity stage at the present time, allowing for long
production runs, and distributors carrying fewer lines, due to economy and less demand for high
end food products (Grant, 2010). Because there are only a handful of companies that can create
products with plant stanol ester, Benecol is a leader in its innovation for the technology. Benecol is
also very well diversified, and it continues to create products that

The United States have declared that it is doing its best to combat the war on drugs. The drug
problem has not stopped and the people continue to buy drugs no matter what circumstances they
are obtained. With drugs prices rising, people are willing do anything to get drugs even if it leads
them to become involved in criminal activities such as robbery. The money and military activity
have not been enough, and the urban problem, has not been resolved. The United States has the
largest demand of drugs in the world. While other countries also face the drug problem, the United
States has spent the most money and law enforcement; however, its effectiveness is questionable.
Consequently, now there is a great amount of drugs coming from Mexico s borderline into the
United States. The drug cartels have become more violent, killing Mexican officers and innocent
people in order to smuggle their drugs. The United States needs more security control and better

Impact of the Information Communication Technology on...
Introduction
Not even a single aspect of life has remained untouched or unaffected by the advent of information
communication technology. But one aspect of life that is most affected by ICT is education. ICT
has brought about various changes in the style of teaching, in working conditions, and in the ways
which are used in handling information. Teaching approaches are being highly modified by the
presence of ICT (Mikre, 2011).
We reside in a technological society under which the educational programs available for the
students are highly modernised. Lectures which are conveyed to the students in the presence of
computer assisted techniques are more effective because they stimulate the memory of the students.
In the past ten years information technology has undergone great progress, and that is why
multimedia technologies have occupied a special place in today s world. Electronic board, video
spotlight and adaptive software all come under modern technologies which are to be used for
educational purposes (Gabriela, 2006).
Computers in Education Education has become very easy in the presence of computers. Conveying
information becomes very convenient as well as interesting by means of computers. Computers
have huge memory which enables the students to save bulk of data. Students can easily process the
data with the help of computer technology with very less chances of errors. Documents can even

Sports Star Responsibilities
The Responsibility of a Sports Star Sports are a very important part of entertainment in society in
this day in age and almost everyone watches them. Athletes go head to head and give everything
they can on the court, field, ring, e.t.c to win and beat their opponents and people love watching
the competition. But what about off of the court in the locker room or in public after the game?
There are many speculations of if these sports stars have the responsibility of setting a good
example for the people that look up to them as role models. In a commercial in 1993, basketballstar
Charles Barkleystated, I m not paid to be a role model. I m paid to wreak havoc on the basketball
court. This is true, however, many young children aspiring to be sports stars in the future cannot
help but admire him and be like him in the future. Though some believe that sports stars should
focus on the game and not care about how society sees them off of the court, I believe that they
have the responsibility as people to be good role models for children. In our modern era,
technology allows us to see news for around the world at a click of a button. It is nearly
impossible to not know about what is going on with people that are famous no matter how hard
they try to keep it hidden. Satellite television follows with more game coverage, more analysis on
the players, and more focus on the personality of players and it is inescapable (Steinberg). Athletes
are admired by many and these people can

Extreme Sports Not About Risk Taking Essay
The extreme sports world is very unique, with a wide variety of sports to choose from and risks
that come along with them. Risks, although they do create a lot of adrenaline, are not the main
reason why these extreme athletes participate in these sports. There s a lot more to the extreme
sports world than just the adrenaline junkies and risktakers, believe it or not there is a lot more
serenity in the sports than thought to be. Extreme athletes are not all about the adrenaline rush,
there is something much deeper than that, it is where they find their peace. The variety of these
exciting sports go anywhere from BMX biking to Deep Sea Diving, each of them with their own
risks, yet people still come back for more. You would think that considering all the dangerous

Treatise On Nomadology The War Machine
In the overview of the chapter Treatise on Nomadology The War Machine of the book A Thousand
Plateaus the writer describes how the chess game has been used to represent the state whereas the
nomad and smooth allowance relationship has been expounded using the Go player. The writer,
Deleuze explains how chess and Go are different. According to the text, chess encodes and decodes

Prevention and Control of Nosocomial Infections
Prevention and Control of Nosocomial Infections
A Nosocomial Infection is a very distinct infection that occurs in hospital environments. The work
nosocomial literally means of or relating to a hospital. Also known as hospital acquired infections
(or HAI) these occur in unsanitary or unclean hospital environments and can be contracted by
hospital staff, hospital patients and visitors. Infections can be generally described as bacterial or
fungal. Nosocomial infections will often cause urinary tract infections, and pneumonia among other
things depending on the patient s reaction to the infection.

epidemiologic research, occur on an international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gram negative bacteria are completely resistant to antibiotics. These bacteria is a primary threat to
hospital patients with weak immune systems and is less likely to affect staff members.
As for the spread of nosocomial infections, methods include airborne travel, direct person to person
contact, droplets, vermin transmission (or vector borne transmission) and tangible vehicles found
in hospitals. Airborne travel occurs when simple droplet nuclei of microorganisms remain in the air
for extended periods of time. An example would be a sneeze or dust particles. Once these particles
are inhaled by a host the infection can be contracted. Person to person contact is the most frequent
transmission and includes a hand shake, touching, rubbing, patting, etc. Droplets are transmitted
through certain operations involving the mouth, nose or throat, including bronchoscopy as well as
coughing, sneezing and talking. Vermin is also a method of travel for these microorganisms as rats,
roaches, mosquitoes and flies. Lastly, common hospital utilities and equipment, when they are not
properly cleaned, can become a vehicle for contact. These may include medications, hospital
devices, tools and equipment, even water and food.

Dave Barry Grandfather
Is it important to know the life lessons that your grandparents have learned. A grandfather named
Dave has a grandson that he wrote an important letter to. His grandsons name was Dylan. Dylan
was not old enough to read the letter yet, but Dave wrote it anyway. In the letter Dave wrote to
Dylan, Dave was telling Dylan about some of the things he has learned throughout his lifetime. He
started by telling dylan that just because everyone believes in one thing it does not make them all
correct. Dave Barry s short story Dave Barry teaches his grandson life s lessons beginning with the

although everyone thinks one thing it does not mean that everyone is correct. In Dave Barry

1970 s Feminist Art Movement
The feminist art movement in the 1970 s culminated as a result of numerous factors. Females
rebelled against traditional art which sexualized objects of desire and was masculine in nature.
Female artists voiced their opinions of the stereotypes of gender, female body, and beauty ideals in
their work. Hannah Wilke, Ana Mendieta, and Carolee Schneemann are artists that helped pave the
way for feminist art and expression. A contemporary artist that reflects the 1970 s movement is
Janine Antoni. Her work, Loving Care and Gnaw, shows her portrayal of the female body and
desire which reflects feminist ideas. To begin it is important to understand the emerging feminist art

Fredrick Henry Sexism
Gender roles exist all throughout history and prevail in present day. In Farewell to Arms,
Hemingway brings to light to society s standards of men and during World War I through the
character, Frederick Henry. He is an American soldier touring over in Italy. He follows the typical
stereotype of a man, fitting into the war through fighting for his country. He changes his internal
ways after a tragic incident happens to a loved one. Hemingway reveals this sexism through the
death of Catherine, Henry s lover, and her child. Henry, as a male, must hide his feelings and any
indication that differs from the stereotypical tough attitude. He is constantly hurt through war or
even through emotional issues in his own relationship, though the... Show more content on

Hemingway proves through the actions and reactions of Henry that the stereotype of male
cannot define him. Henry, throughout the novel, is heavily drinking when he is with other men
(Hemingway 87, 171). He is most likely keeping up on appearances to appeal to the others as a
man. This part of Henry does not change, Hemingway is signifying the stereotypes pushed onto
men do not come in the form of taunting, just being around others. The only changes shown
through Henry are the thoughts that he allows himself to have. Hemingway demonstrates the
struggle for a man to admit pain as Henry says, Lying on the floor of the flat car with the guns
beside me under the canvas, I was wet, cold, and very hungry (Hemingway 231). This revelation
of admittance is rare and significant due to the lack of communication from other men in the
novel about their own pain. All the men in the novel seem to talk about is drinking, war, and
women. After Catherine s death, Hemingway has Henry leave. After a while I went out and left
the hospital and walked back to the hotel in the rain (Hemingway 332). Henry does not cry, he
merely walks away into the rain. Hemingway is showing the defeat of a man. Henry is changed,
but the main reason for his change has no been ripped out from under his feet. Many aspects of
his manly behavior is still there, but many aspects of him have changed. Hemingway is revealing
the reality behind the masculinity seen in males. While their exterior appears tough and apathetic,
their interior has emotion and can love another. It changes the work as a whole, as Henry s denial
to love and other non masculine subjects are no longer trust worthy. Henry s denials are just to be
seen as cover ups for his own sake. Hemingway exhibits the change of a man through his thoughts,
but also proves the pressures on that man

people just think of books as a form of entertainment, but humans can actually learn from them.
For example: Grimm s version of Cinderella, published in 1812, was a favorite tale among

among kids in America. Italys translation of Cinderella, published in 1885, was favored story

stands out among all others.
In the Grimm story of Cinderella , there is one vital theme: hate and contempt will get you nowhere

Performance Measurement And Management System Design...
INTRODUCTION
A lot of businesses are facing challenges to succeed in a global competitive market. Demands from
customers is constantly and rapidly changing in terms of the sophistication of the products and
services they require and because of this, interest on performance measurement and management
(PMM) has notably increased in the last 20 to 30 years. This report discusses the problems and
difficulties of performance measurement and management system design interventions of
management accounting fields in today s business environment. It also gives a literature review,
critical analysis and findings on this topic.
PROBLEMATIC ASPECTS
All through history, many organisations have used performance tools to assess the success of the
organisation. Assessment of performance has predominantly been based on financial criteria since
the Middle Ages. (Burns, 1998). Performance measurement tools are used to monitor what
management is doing with factors such as share price, return on investment, profit percentage, sales
volume etc.
There was a growing development in the 1980s that traditional performance measures were no
longer adequate enough to manage organisations competing in modern environments. It has been
put to the attention of many authors on this topic that financial information is historical and gives
insufficient indication of the company s performance. It lacks strategic focus and often inhibits
innovations. However, it encourages short term goals. It usually focusses

Depending on the material used in the doping, a positive semiconductor (p type) or a negative
semiconductor (n type) can be made. These types are charged positively or negatively, and this
property can be used in computers. A semiconductor made up of a sandwiched n type layer
between two p type layers forms two p to n interfaces, called p n junctions, and these junctions
allow semiconductors known as transistors to act like electrical switches. This property is just what
computers needed, and has been the reason behind the amazing leap in technical capabilities we
have seen in the past few decades in computers (Trefil, p. 243 50). These transistors are then made
into extremely complex groupings and systems that number into the hundreds of thousands, within
what is called an integrated circuit. This means that all those various connections making up various
electrical circuits with multitudes of functions are integrated together. The integrated circuit is then
put into a component that can be used in a computer, called a microchip, which houses the
integrated circuit. With the minute size of these devices that has been achieved today, the density
of microchips has shot up, making computers more and more complex, as well as faster by utilizing
some parallel computing with the integrated circuits operating simultaneously. These computing
devices are found inside your car, making problem

Realistically, diagnosis of a mental illness is only a medical diagnostic tool for the physician and it

The British troops helping the Grecian government were strangled of supplies due to poor

Cinematic Techniques In Big Fish
Big Fish is a film that jumps between past and present to relay the fantastical stories and
adventures of Edward Bloom. This film presents these stories through various flashbacks as his
son, Will Bloom, tries to piece together the man his father claims to be. As the flashbacks unfold,
stunning cinematography, lighting and colours are used to create beautiful and enchanting scenes
that really complete the movie. The sequence I chose to analyse is the town scene in which
Edward comes to the realisation that he does not belong in Spectre, and needs to leave whilst he
still can. Spectre is a mysterious town that Edward unexpectedly stumbles upon after leaving his
hometown. Everything there appears to be perfect with the overly enthusiastic characters, grass
paved streets and the best pie you ve ever had .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Edward approaches the dancing characters, there are numerous, exposed spotted lights above
and around the scene. These are used to connote natural light, which makes the people and their
surroundings glow in a bright, vivid way; this glowing effect gives the scene a hazy, dreamlike
quality, which further adds to the surreal and magical elements of the film. Spectre represents
heaven on earth for Edward, and the lighting choices reflect this well. As it becomes evident to
Edward that he has to leave Spectre and he begins to back away from the scene, the enchanting
glow that surrounds the town appears to become muted, and as soon as he has withdrawn from
the spotlights, fades completely. This reveals how the dream is quickly disappearing as Edward
is coming back to reality. By using these effects, Rousselot shows how even though something
may seem perfect, if you take a step back and look at the whole picture, it may not be as flawless
and extraordinary as you once

Government Intervention Vs. Self Regulation
Business Ethics: Government Intervention vs. Self Regulation Wealth brings power and power can
at times bring corruption. In today s economy where individuals are no longer the concern when it
comes to wealth, the global attention is drawn to corporations who hold the majority of our wealth.
This calls for us to take cetain measures that can ensure the existence of a socially responsible
behavior amongst all corporations, and these measures could be introduced in many forms, quite
possibly the most favorable currently being governmentintervention. However, government
intervention is not always the best method for ensuring social responsibility and ethical behavior
amongst corporations. A much better alternative is a self regulatory economy along with a
combination of freedom and transparency in order to ensure responsible behavior in
corporations, in addition to an increase in efficiency and flexibility in regards to resources and
innovation. The first step is to realize exactly how out of control government regulations have
become. In his article at Wall Street Journal, Regulations Run Amok And How to Fight Back,
Charles Murray notes the number of federal crimes you could commit as of 2007 (the last year
they were tallied) was about 4,450, a %50 increase since just 1980. Furthermore, Murray brings to
light the fact that other than a handful few, these crimes are not acts that are bad or evil in nature,
and instead are labeled crimes simply because the government

Boo Radley Quotes
Who is the Mockingbird? There are many ideas on who could be the mockingbird in the novel,
To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. Boo Radley, a man the town of Maycomb looks
down upon is the so called mockingbird in the novel. Boo Radley is nothing other than a
resident of Maycomb who saves the Finch kid s lives, showers them with gifts, and is just all
together an innocent person. Throughout the story Boo Radley looks after the kids and leaves
them gifts. For example, Jem talks about going back to the Radley place when he says, When I
went back for my breeches they were in a tangle...When I went back...they were folded across the
fence...like they were expectin me (Lee 78). This quote is trying to say that when Jem went
back for his pants they were fixed and folded neatly on the fence. Boo Radley helps Jem out by
untangling and sewing his pants for him. In addition, another quote is when Jem is peeking into
a tree he says, Tin foil was sticking out of a knothole just above my eye level...I reached into the
hole and withdrew two pieces of chewing gum (Lee 33). The quote is explaining how Boo Radley
knew Jem would go to the tree so he left him... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mr. Ewell. He then rescued the kids and took them back home. Another quote is when Atticus
talks to Scout about the fire when he says to her, Boo Radley. You were so busy looking at the
fire you didn t know it when he put the blanket around you (Lee 96). In this quote Atticus is saying
that Boo Radley came and put the blanket around Scout. Boo takes care of Scout when he

Enthalpy Change Lab Report
Applying Calorimetry to Determine the Enthalpy Change for the Dissolution of a Salt
Calorimetry is the measurement of the amount of thermal energy that is released or absorbed in a
reaction and is used to determine enthalpy change. Calorimetry also plays a significant role in daily
life as it controls metabolic rates, and maintains body temperature. (Calorimetry, 2016). Enthalpy
change is valid on a daily basis, for example ice melting is an endothermic reaction. Heat is added
to the ice cube, which causes the water molecules to move around faster and for the ice to melt.
(Heat of fusion, 2017). Similarly, the vaporization of water is endothermic because heat is absorbed
from the surroundings, allowing the molecules to vibrate which then increases the space between
them. (How atoms and molecules are affected by Heat, n.d.). Some factors affecting the enthalpy
change for the dissolution of a salt in water would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Voter Turnout In America
The nature of voter turnout is a broad concept in modern American politics and can be broken into
many topics: how voter turnout varies by state, by election, by demographics, and whether or not
voter turnout actually matters. Despite public opinion that voter participation is declining and that
such participation matters, voter turnout is about the same as it was in the 1960s and has not
undergone serious changes, and turnout only actually matters in competitive or local elections,
rarely national elections. The first determinant of variation in voter turnout is electiondifferences
between states; specifically, votingaccessibility, early voting, how competitive the race is, and
gerrymandering of districts in the state. Voting accessibility

Crime Statistics And Juvenile Crime
Juvenile Crime Statistics
The paper will focus and highlight some details of the statistics of juvenile crime statistics and
juvenile crime itself. Is an aim to evaluate the reduction in national juvenile arrest, narcotics
offenses, minor assaults, and the allegations regarding minor females, with the incousion of ethnic
and racial classes. Additionally, data will be shown on the increase in arrest for minor females, the
contrast in decrease for their male delinquent counterparts and voilent crimes and lastly, the method
of gathering trends for arresting data of juveniles. According to the (Juvenile Justice Bulletin, 2000).
Determining juvenile crime statistics the arrest data report the amount of arrest made by law
enforcement in a precise year nor the amount of individual arrested nor the amount of crimes
committed. Data about juvenile crime, in particular violent crime, and statistics about the size and
characteristics of the juvenile population have played an important part in the policy debates
(Zimring, 1998).
Overall Decrease in Juvenile Arrest
Juvenile crime rates are a significant portion of the UCR statistics. (Uniform Crime Report). Most
of the crimes in which juveniles committed were in fact violent crimes. The main crimes that
were committed were drug abuse and simple assault. According to the FBI, juveniles accounted
for 17% of all arrests, while 15% of those arrests were considered violent crimes . (Juvenile Crime

Antidepressants And The Monoamine Theory Of Depression
1.Introduction
1.1. Depression: definition, symptoms and classification
Depression is defined by the DSM IV as a mental disorder characterized by sustained depression
of mood, anhedonia, sleep and appetite disturbances, feelings of worthlessness, guilt, and
hopelessness. Depressive symptoms such as the mere inability to experience pleasure and loss of
energy persisting for longer than two weeks are usually enough to indicate an affective disorder
(Hirschfeld 2014). There are significant variations in presentations and diagnosis criteria, but
regardless of the classification of depressive states (Major (Unipolar), Bipolar, Dysthymia, Atypical,
SAD, Postpartum), it is agreed upon that pharmacological interventions are sometimes required: to
alleviate debilitating symptoms and improve patients quality of life. The interest in depression
medications reflects the gravity of the disease i.e. its ability to psychologically impair lives and
lead to suicide.

with MDD (Major Depressive Disorder) do not reach remission with an adequate course of one

Aurora Marie Easley Research Paper
Right after Aurora Marie Easley was born the doctor did the Apgar score on her to know if she
is a healthy baby or not. APGAR scoring is based off of heart rate, respiration, muscle tone,
reflexes and skin tone. Then if Aurora gets a total of seven or more than she would be
considered in good physical condition, a total of four to six she would need special attention
and a total of three or less her life is life threatening. However, Aurora scored a total of ten, she
weighted eight pounds and was the most beautiful baby I have ever seen. It s been four days, one
week since me and hubby left the hospital with our precious Aurora. Out days as been breathe
taking and also restless. Like any other baby Aurora has newborn reflexes, such as the ability to
naturally blink, root, step, palmar, suck, moro and babinski. Which is interesting because hubby
and I does not have to teach her because she naturally does it already. However, some of those
abilities occurs mainly when she is a baby such as rooting that happens during the third and fourth
weeks of her life, stepping that occurs when she is two or three months old, palmar during three to
four months, sucking during four months, moro six months... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Personal Identity In Adolescence
Human development is a perpetual process that commences with our conception and proceeds until
the point where we breathe our last breath. While we remain more stagnant during certain times of
our lives, there are others that are loaded with rapid change. One of these periods is adolescence, in
which teenagers develop psychosocially, cognitively, and morally. They must undergo these
dramatic changes that set a frame for the rest of their lives.
From a psychosocial perspective, Erik Erikson illustrated diverse stages of life as sundry
circumstances of contention. The conflict for adolescence is identity versus role confusion. He
believed this was the duration when humans must decipher our identity and have a strong feeling of
self. We explore through different gregarious relationships and may endeavor different roles. To be
successful in this stage of development, however, we must find our personal identity.
Psychology.about.com.
This journey for a firm identity along with the cognitive and moral maturation adolescents
experience all play an integral part in how young teenagers decipher who they are going to be and
what their notions are. They are maturing in their coherent considering, their identity, and their
moral credence s. These variable are largely present or developing amid experiences students will
have as they come of age. It may be their advent of age experience that authentically solidifies their
moral development, or that helps them nail down precisely who

The Scope Of Nursing Practice
Multistate Licensure The scope of nursing practice is regulated and outlined by the State Board of
Nursing for each state. While every eligible student takes the same National Council Licensure
Exam (NCLEX), minimum education requirements and eligibility may differ state to state (Potter,
Perry, 2013). Since nurses must have a license for each state practiced in, this becomes complicated
for those working near state borders, occupational nurses for companies operating in multiple states,
and traveling nurses. Obtaining and upholding individual state licenses can become burdensome
and expensive. To circumvent this issue, the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) came into fruition to

The NLC provides a mutual recognition model of nurse licensure that allows a nurse to have one
license... and to practice in other states... subject to each state s practice law and regulation
(Litchfield, 2010, p.1). In order to have a multistate license a nurse must have primary residence in
an NLC participating state, have licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
/Vocational Nurse in good standing, and meet all the states requirements of licensing (NCSBN,
n.d.a). When practicing in states other than the nurse s primary residence, even though it may be a

means that the nurse must know and adhere to each individual states Nurse Practice Act (NPA) to
be sure to practice under its parameters which have the full force and effect of the law (NCBSN,
n.d.b). The NPA establishes a Board of Nursing, education standards, scope of nursing practice, titles
and licensure, requirements for licensure, and grounds for disciplinary actions (NCSBN, n.d.b).
While organization for the NLC started in 1996, the first participating states passed it into law in
January 2000 (Litchfield, 2010). Starting out with just four states, Maryland, Texas, Utah, and

From the Chinese laborers building the transcontinental railway, inner cities laundry services, to Asian farmers who have helped build the agriculture communities around the country, Asian American have contributed to the industries and economy of America. Despite their loyalty and contributions to this country, Asian Americans have been discriminated and considered as unassimilable by many Americans. Racism toward Asian is further extended by Hollywood s use of yellow face, where Caucasian actors applied make up and prosthetics to pose as Asians, stereotypes such yellow peril and orientalism. As the popularity of Fu Manchu increased, Hollywood was quick to take advantage and portray this character as a threat to white supremacy. According to Eugene Franklin Wong s The Early Years: Asians in the American Films Prior to World War II, Rohmer, the creator of Fu Manchu stated I MADE MY MANE ON FU MANCHU BECAUSE I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT the Chinese... I know something about Chinatown. But that is a different matter. (Wong, 57) This presented a problem as the whole perception of Dr. Fu Manchu was based on generalization and ignorance. Unfortunately, ignorance of Asian culture became the root of Asian characters in motion pictures. The ambiguity and general facelessness of Asian characters and communities lead to the creation of a low budget film called Chan is Missing (1981) by Wayne Wang. As two amateur detective cab drivers search the San Francisco s Chinatown for the mysterious Chan, but never do find him or even reach any conclusion about why he is missing. • 5. How Does Richard Matheson Use Cgi In Modern Disaster Films The use of CGI (computer generated imagery) has become a prevalent, although rather expensive element implemented in modern films, especially of the disaster film genre. Audiences worldwide are proving to be more difficult to amaze, and are not impressed so easily. Most moviegoers are quick witted and even the slightest production error on screen can deter people from enjoying and sometimes understanding the film. It is no secret that the general consensus in Hollywood is focused to create the biggest, and most gruesome disaster situations on screen using special effects and CGI in order to shock and awe their audiences. In both films, this universal attachment to the protagonist is established, but in The Last Man on Earth Robert eventually is hunted down by the new society of intelligient vampires who had been searching for him after he destroyed the vampires friends and family for his experiments in hope to find a cure for the disease. [Robert] is seen by these intelligent vampires as not only an evolutionary throw back but a serious threat as he indiscriminately destroys vampires both monstrous and intelligent during his daylight rampages. As the monster who comes during one s sleep, [Robert] is captured and condemned to public execution. (Moreman). This twist in plot, creates a semi original idea that holds true to the theme in the preceding novel, in a new society of vampires, Robert has seen himself become a murderous human, the last of his kind. I Am Legend, however ironic as it may seem because of the films shares the title with the novel, strays away from this ending and instead, in this storyline, Robert finds a cure and in his final moments decides to sacrifice himself for the rest of humanity as he knew it. • 6. Breast Cancer Reflection This semester I enrolled a Biology 101 course with Dr. Smith Pearson. One of our assignments this semester was an outside of the classroom volunteer project. For this project I was selected to participate in the Tri Beta Breast Cancer Walk. As a participant, I had to do several things to prepare for the volunteer event including a learning session. During this session, I learned exactly what breast canceris, the different types, and the main causes. I further learned about breast cancer through a scientific aspect in my biology class. We learned that cancer is when cells are over actively reproduced, which is caused by a mutation in the cell cycle that suppresses our bodies ability to function normally and stop this. Also, we learned about some of the different subtypes of breast cancer like, HER2+ (ER ), Basal Like (Triple Negative Breast Cancer), Normal Like, Luminal A, and Luminal B. HER2+ (ER ) breast cancer is less common, but it is very aggressive. HER2 is a gene in our bodies that produces receptor proteins, which are responsible for regulating the growth and repair of breast cells. When these HER2 receptor proteins are expressed too much, it causes excessive reproduction of breast cells. It is thought that African Americans have a higher risk for this type (Mandell). Basal Like, or more commonly called, Triple Negative Breast Cancer is very aggressive, usually the most aggressive. Basal like means that the ways the cells look with this cancer resemble the cells that line the breast ducts (Breast Cancer Organization). Basal like cancers are more aggressive, just like triple negative breast cancers. According to research most triple negative breast cancer cells have the basal like cell type (Breast Cancer Organization). It mostly occurs in premenopausal African American Women who are under 40. Normal Like breast cancer is called normal like because it looks a lot like normal breast tissue. The levels of estrogen and progesterone receptors have low expression with this cancer, and it does not have the epidermal growth receptor (National Breast Cancer Foundation). Luminal A breast cancer is another cancer that looks a lot like normal breast tissue. Also, this cancer has low expression of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

US and Russia relations after the defeat of the USSR: The end of Cold War brought new challenges to Russian life, economy and politics. Actually, the post Cold War period opened the new opportunities for Russia. Democracy made its first steps in the country. After seventy years of communism Russian people finally got a chance to live how the want, to say what they want and to do what they want. People got a chance to choose their own leader, to vote for the Congress members. And it was very confusing for the country. Russia needed somebody to come out and help in this critical situation. Each year Americans were increasing the sales of their own products on the Russian market. As I said earlier, Russia devoted itself to the new type of the economy; with private sector businesses. But what they could do with all those weapons produced during the Soviet era? And the way out was found. Russia became the biggest exporter of military ammunition on the world market. The exports of oil also put Russia on the leading positions in the world. Everything was going just fine. quot;Russia was moving from pure stabilization to the resumption of economic Shkolnikov 3 growth quot; (Pickering 103). The only one thing that was bothering both countries, especially Russia, was the growth of Russian mafia. In the middle 90 s the level of corruption in the Russian government was very high. Mafia controlled everything; starting from stores, which pay some percent of their income every month, and ending with police, which was completely under control of the mafia. The power of mafia really bothered American businessmen, who didn t want to pay them and didn t want to get shot by mafia. And since they refused to pay, the number of American businessmen shot in Russia was growing. But this doesn t really stops Americans from doing business in Russia. The other problem that Americans were concerned about is nuclear potential of Russia. During the leadership of the communism the USSR produced huge number of nuclear ... In dealing with the potential outcomes of the scenario, Nora comes to find that she has been living a convenient mistruth. Nora s greatest and most damaging lies are lies she tells to herself. As is seen numerous times throughout the play, Nora hides, withholds, and distorts the truth in order to please everyone around her, including herself. This false reality is damaging her ability to be honest, trustworthy and reliable. Nora s false reality is partially created because she never forms an opinion of her own. Nora is always afraid of having an opinion because it will disrupt or upset her husband. Nora s life as an adult is stunted because she isn t her own person. Nora states that when I was at home with papa, he told me his opinion about everything, and so I had the same opinions; and if I differed from him I concealed the fact, because he would not have liked it (III.141) and that I was simply transferred from papa s hands into yours. You arranged everything according to your own taste, and so I got the same tastes as your else I pretended to (III. 142). Nora is a woman made to be a doll, and she plays the role with lies and misdeeds. Nora again demonstrates the lack of opinion. Nora s life as a deceptive doll is further showcased by the dangerous decisions she makes. Nora takes out a fraudulent loan against her father s name because she wants something and cannot have it. Nora realizes the burden her actions can put against her father s name and she realizes the legal action that can result from fraud. Krogstad, Nora s lender states but did it never occur to you that you were committing a fraud on me? (II.52). Nora replies that I couldn t take that into account; I didn t trouble myself about you at all (II.52). Again, when Nora is presented with an opportunity to make a poor choice ... Alternatively, I use writing to settle the rage within myself no matter the subject matter I always stay true to writing with internal purpose. Writing something down on paper is much easier for me, it s as though my hand leads my thoughts. It s wonderful to escape and through writing, I get that feeling. If it was not for me taking speech and given the assignment to write about something that affected my life I would have never found my passion for writing. Two weeks into the class I was shaken up when my teacher, Mrs. Murphy gave us a speech topic that read something that has had a major effect on you . This assignment had to be presented in front of my peers, but it had to come from a writing assignment. Mrs. Murphy didn t have many strict requirements for this assignment except she demanded that we present our speech with passion. After class on my way home many topics ran through my head but none of them actually stuck. I then took a right, turning into my drive way, seeing my house that is not yet livable since the flood I knew that this is what I base my assignment on. By merging with J J, they create a large market for their product with multiple distribution capabilities. Because differentiation is only affected when consumers are made aware, Benecol was marketed widely to lower cholesterol and most people know it now as a health food (Grant, 2010). The process of innovation and competition is also very important in the position that Benecol is in its life cycle. The product began with short production runs, with limited specialized distribution channels in 1996. It then emerged into the growth stage of its life cycle when it partnered with J J to create multiple product lines, mass production, and competition for distribution. Benecol seems to be in its Maturity stage at the present time, allowing for long production runs, and distributors carrying fewer lines, due to economy and less demand for high end food products (Grant, 2010). Because there are only a handful of companies that can create products with plant stanol ester, Benecol is a leader in its innovation for the technology. Introduction Not even a single aspect of life has remained untouched or unaffected by the advent of information communication technology. But one aspect of life that is most affected by ICT is education. ICT has brought about various changes in the style of teaching, in working conditions, and in the ways which are used in handling information. Teaching approaches are being highly modified by the presence of ICT (Mikre, 2011). We reside in a technological society under which the educational programs available for the students are highly modernised. Lectures which are conveyed to the students in the presence of computer assisted techniques are more effective because they stimulate the memory of the students. In the past ten years information technology has undergone great progress, and that is why multimedia technologies have occupied a special place in today s world. Electronic board, video spotlight and adaptive software all come under modern technologies which are to be used for educational purposes (Gabriela, 2006). But what about off of the court in the locker room or in public after the game? There are many speculations of if these sports stars have the responsibility of setting a good example for the people that look up to them as role models. In a commercial in 1993, basketballstar Charles Barkleystated, I m not paid to be a role model. I m paid to wreak havoc on the basketball court. This is true, however, many young children aspiring to be sports stars in the future cannot help but admire him and be like him in the future. Though some believe that sports stars should focus on the game and not care about how society sees them off of the court, I believe that they have the responsibility as people to be good role models for children. Hemingway proves through the actions and reactions of Henry that the stereotype of male cannot define him. Henry, throughout the novel, is heavily drinking when he is with other men (Hemingway 87, 171). He is most likely keeping up on appearances to appeal to the others as a man. This part of Henry does not change, Hemingway is signifying the stereotypes pushed onto men do not come in the form of taunting, just being around others. The only changes shown through Henry are the thoughts that he allows himself to have. Hemingway demonstrates the struggle for a man to admit pain as Henry says, Lying on the floor of the flat car with the guns beside me under the canvas, I was wet, cold, and very hungry (Hemingway 231). This revelation of admittance is rare and significant due to the lack of communication from other men in the novel about their own pain. All the men in the novel seem to talk about is drinking, war, and women. After Catherine s death, Hemingway has Henry leave. After a while I went out and left the hospital and walked back to the hotel in the rain (Hemingway 332). Henry does not cry, he merely walks away into the rain. Hemingway is showing the defeat of a man. Henry is changed, but the main reason for his change has no been ripped out from under his feet. Many aspects of his manly behavior is still there, but many aspects of him have changed. Hemingway is revealing the reality behind the masculinity seen in males. While their exterior appears tough and apathetic, their interior has emotion and can love another. It changes the work as a whole, as Henry s denial to love and other non masculine subjects are no longer trust worthy. Henry s denials are just to be seen as cover ups for his own sake. Looking at the perceptual map (exhibit 9), Pond s and Oil of Olay which dominate the market are perceived differently. In terms of promotion and advertising, L Oreal should change the star product approach and instead focus on the whole product line or perhaps a set of products for a given target segment. In this way, L Oreal can inform its customers on its products which should also help them in choosing the right product for themselves. Spectre represents heaven on earth for Edward, and the lighting choices reflect this well. As it becomes evident to Edward that he has to leave Spectre and he begins to back away from the scene, the enchanting glow that surrounds the town appears to become muted, and as soon as he has withdrawn from the spotlights, fades completely. A much better alternative is a self regulatory economy along with a combination of freedom and transparency in order to ensure responsible behavior in corporations, in addition to an increase in efficiency and flexibility in regards to resources and innovation. The first step is to realize exactly how out of control government regulations have become. Enthalpy Change Lab Report Applying Calorimetry to Determine the Enthalpy Change for the Dissolution of a Salt Calorimetry is the measurement of the amount of thermal energy that is released or absorbed in a reaction and is used to determine enthalpy change. Calorimetry also plays a significant role in daily life as it controls metabolic rates, and maintains body temperature. (Calorimetry, 2016). Enthalpy change is valid on a daily basis, for example ice melting is an endothermic reaction. Heat is added to the ice cube, which causes the water molecules to move around faster and for the ice to melt. (Heat of fusion, 2017).
