Who Is Rudy Gekko s Suicide
daughter, Winnie Gekko. While Gordon Gekko served time in prison, his son, Rudy Gekko,
committed suicide. We are informed that Rudy Gekko became heavily involved with drug use, and
this eventually led to him taking his own life; Winnie Gekko blames her father s absence and has
never forgiven him. This is the primary reason that Winnie Gekko no longer wants her father in her
life as she directly holds him responsible for her brother s death. Gordon Gekko sees the situation
quite a bit differently and explains that he did everything in his power to stop Rudy Gekko from using
drugs right down to paying off the dealer not to sell to his son any further. While Winnie Gekko is
convinced that Gordon Gekko s presence as a father could have saved her ... Show more content on

Peter C. Whybrow has written a very interesting article entitled Dangerously Addictive. Why we are
biologically ill suited to the riches of modern America? (Whybrow, 2009, p.111 115). It seems to offer
some input into this matter. Whybrow (2009, p.111 115) makes the case that we can essentially
overload the brain s reward system, and if left unchecked, it can turn into rampant greed. Whybrow
(2009, p.111 115) makes the very valid point, when we lose our ambition, we call it depression and
attempt treatment but, we do not treat unchecked ambition in the same way. Given the nature of Wall
Street placing the emphasis on overloading that very system, it seems that Gordon Gekko may
actually be a victim of his circumstances to a point, although this hardly excuses him of all his actions.
The film highlights a small, but elite, group of people that are highly susceptible to an ideology of
greed and live in a system that rewards negative behavior and poor moral choices. The characters
caught up in this system feel there will never be any negative outcome for their actions and are
shocked when they are faced with the consequences of their actions. This causes the realization that
the film showcases a deep addiction and is relatively honest about the outcomes of living with that

who wrote thousand pieces of work about love that break peoples heart, but also heal peoples soul.
The movie Shakespeare in Love brings us to see the imagined Shakespeare s life, the life of a born

especially the romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. The poor couple Romeo and Juliet want to get rid

A Study of the Healing Process from Slavery and Racism Essay
A battle lost or won is easily described, understood, and appreciated, but the moral growth of a great
nation requires reflection, as well as observation, to appreciate it. Frederick Douglass When you think
of slavery, you may want to consider the effects of an earthquake because that s how powerful it was.
Like many earthquakes, slavery produced various damaging ramifications to everything around it.
This included devastation to family structures and in worst cases the loss of human life; and without
doubt slavery claimed the lives of many just as Harriet Jacobs expressed I once saw a slave girl dying
after the birth of a child nearly white. In her agony she cried out, O Lord, come and take me! Her
mistress stood by, and mocked at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Frederick Douglass, it was the blood stained gate, the entrance to the hell of slavery,
through which I was about to pass. It was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could commit to paper the
feelings with which I beheld it (p.4). Frederick Douglass and Toni Morrison literatures examine the
stigma of slavery, and the perceptions of its dangers. They illustrate what life was like and the mental
as well social impact it had on enslaved African Americans and their life after gaining freedom.
Richard Wright convinces his audience in Black Boy that he was tired of the limitations and outcries
in the South I was not leaving the South to forget the South, but so that some day I might understand
it, might come to know what its rigors had done to me, its children (284). Alice Walker obtains her
readers attention by transforming young women into their own characters with a voice using spiritual
guidance. In Native Son, Bigger has achieved is lost after being apprehended and brought into
captivity, as he transitions back into silence and passivity and begins to recover only in his final
confrontation, whereas Douglass in the same prevailing convention, only heals after the regaining of
his freedom. Through these literatures, and many others, African Americans find multiple ways to
alleviate and recover from the intensity of undesired bondage and bigotry. In essence, Douglass born

U.s. State Department Advisory
State Department Advisory: The US State Department advises citizens not to visit Mexico during their
elections. So, it was Day One of our trip and I felt quite nervous. Sleep eluded me the night before as
my head was spinning with thoughts of spending the next three weeks flying all the way from
Phoenix, Arizona to Santiago, Chile in a small airplane. I couldn t refrain from dwelling on how crazy
we were, especially given the State Department warning against U.S. citizens visiting Mexico. Up
until that point in time, I had never been out of the continental United States. When I was twelve years
old, I visited Puerto Rico; however, I m not sure that counts. For this to be my first true international

When I arrived at Scottsdale Municipal Airport, to begin our trip, Miguel had already arrived and
unloaded his car. He sat perched in front of a mountain of personal belongings. Without even
exchanging as much as a, Good morning, we both stood glancing back and forth between his massive
pile and the small plane. When we made eye contact, we both burst out laughing. Obviously, we had
way too much to put in the plane. In addition to sheer volume, we needed to be concerned with Weight
and Balance; in other words, total weight and how it s distributed in relation to the airplane s center of
gravity. My weight, Miguel s weight, combined with the weight of the fuel and everything we were
taking had to be factored in. Loading the plane accordingly was essential; otherwise, there existed a
danger of the plane becoming uncontrollable or not even being able to safely take off. Already falling
behind schedule and faced with the full day of flying, we needed to make some decisions quickly.
Brandishing a pack of Post it Notes, Miguel suggested we employ to mark each bag with its weight.
Armed with a fish scale and Post it Notes, we proceeded to weigh and mark each and every item we
had. Deciding what to take and what to leave behind was difficult; we had brought only what we
considered essential. For example, one of the bags held assorted medicines and extensive medical
supplies which had all been purchased based on the

The Vietnam War Was A Long And Costly Conflict
Causes if the Vietnam War
Before WWII Vietnam belonged to the French Empire but during the war, it was taken over by the
Japanese but since they were being defeated they retreated back to Japan. This gave the chance to the
Vietnamese people to create their own government led by Ho Chi Minh but at the end of the war, the
south was given back to the french while the north was led by the Chinese, who was not communist at
the time, so Ho Chi Minh lost all his power. When the Chinese pulled out in 1946 the Ho Chi Minh
party took over The Viet Minh and by October the French stated their intention of reuniting back with
north but it would all be under the french rule so the Viet Minh prepared to fight back. War started in
November 1946 where the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The North Vietnamese army was supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies
whereas the South Vietnamese army were supported by the United States, South Korea, Australia,
Thailand and other Anti communist countries. The Vietnam war took place because North Vietnam
was fighting to unify Vietnam but the US intervened and helped the communist takeover. This was
part of a larger plan from the US to eliminate communism.
Major Significant Events:
The Spring Offensive
The 1975 Spring Offensive was a series of large offensive operations to force south Vietnam and it s
rallied back and eventually defeat the armed forces.and force the government to surrender. After initial
success, North Vietnam increased its attack and continued to push forward. This was also the initial
idea of the Easter offensive in 1972 but it failed due to strong US forces but due to decreases in
American military aid which was south Vietnam s main power the spring offensive was successful.
Unable to fight back and cope without the large US support south Vietnam collapsed causing large
numbers of casualties. South Vietnam s immediate action was to regroup its forces and decrease the
area that its troops had to defend, thereby surrendering space for time. However, due to a
miscommunication, lack of authority and management lead to the loss of Buôn Ma Thuột and a

Visual Information Processing
The human brain is capable of perceiving and interpreting information or stimuli received through the
sense organs (i.e., eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and skin) (Weiten, 1998). This ability to perceive and
interpret stimulus allows the human being to make meaningful sense of the world and environment
around them. However, even as the human being is able to perceive and interpret stimuli information
through all sense organs, stimuli is most often or primarily interpreted using the visual (eyes) and
auditory (ears) sense organs (Anderson, 2009). However, for the purpose of this paper, the visual
information process will be examined. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
37).
Visual Impairments When damage to certain regions of the brain occurs, conditions may develop
where one is able to register visual information but incapable to distinguish anything (Anderson,
2009). Consequently, difficulties with visual impairments can include an inability within the brain to
interpret and or process visual information (Anderson, 2009). Thus, visual perception impairments or
disorders typically refer to the inability to make sense of information received through sight (the eyes)
(Weiten, 1998). One such visual perception disorder is visual agnosia. Visual agnosia refers to the
...inability to recognize objects that results neither from general intellectual loss nor from a loss of
basic sensory abilities, (Anderson, 2009, p. 32). There are generally two types of visual agnosia:
apperceptive agnosia and associative agnosia. Apperceptive agnosia is the inability to recognize or
draw simple shapes as they are shown or represented. Associative agnosia is the ability to recognize
and copy drawings of simple and complex shapes. However, person with associative agnosia are
unable to recognize the complex objects (Anderson, 2009). Visual agnosia can drastically affect one s
ability to learn. For example, a child with visual agnosia may find it difficult to recognize letters and
numbers, thereby making it difficult to learn to read and perform other tasks imperative for retaining
information learned. To compensate for the

Transportation Systems Using Artificial Immune Systems
Introduction: The research into nature inspired solutions to solve business problems has picked up
momentum over the last two decades. Processes and schedules as part of most businesses and they are
critical functions for transportation companies and infrastructure improvements to operational metro
systems. London Underground is the oldest underground metro system that is using the most advanced
technology to transport its customers and keep upgrading the old system to bring it up to world class
status. This paradoxical problem requires innovation, creativity and rigorous researches, in order to
unlock the potential for world class status. As inspirational as nature is, can it deliver the creative,
analogical keys to unlock this complex problem? A Review of the Literature: Darmoul et al. (2014)
report provides a novel solution to disturbances in transportation systems using artificial immune
systems. It demonstrates that biological solutions help to develop principles for detection strategies,
formation of reactive solutions, supervised learning and memory utilization from previous
experiences. The report reviews the current transport control systems; the geographic information
system (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), automatic passenger counters (APC), and automatic
vehicle monitoring systems (AVMS). However, the management capabilities for these control systems
is not well documented or usually considered. The control strategy during a disturbance is typically

Emily s family was well known to everyone in that area. At one point in time, the Grierson family may
have been wealthy. The families past wealth and illustrious heritage would be enviable to anyone who
grew up less than rich or with odd family members. The fact that people wanted to have a family like
that of Miss Emily s served as a foundation for the jealousy of the people who lived near her. In
section one of the story, the town s people described Miss Grierson as a hereditary obligation. The
description of Miss Emily as a hereditary obligation can be perceived in two different ways. The first
suggested meaning of the phrase could be that since The Grierson Family had been so distinguished in
the past, people pay respect to Emily out of reverence for her family. The second suggested meaning
of the phrase could be that the people of the town, where our main character lived, seen Emily as an
obligation because of the taxes that she did not pay. The use of hereditary in the second suggested
meaning alludes to the fact that until Emily passed away; each surviving generation would have to
support her in a way, because she failed to pay her taxes. The last example of how our main character
s heritage created feelings of envy among the residents in her town is the statement made after Mr.
Grierson s death. When Mr. Grierson passed away, the narrator of our story recalls that Emily seemed
humanized , and relished the fact that she would

Spanish Conquistadors Thesis
A Reflection of a Revolution
Exploitation of Mexico by Spanish Conquistadors vividly illustrates the struggle of the native
Mexicans during the inquisition, depicts the violent and savage oppression by the Spanish conquerors,
and satirizes the rule and authority of Cortes. This mural by Diego Rivera was the last of the corridor
panels painted in the Palacio National (Khan Academy). His spectacular approach portrays an accurate
narrative of Mexican history. It is a summarization of the Spanish enslavement of the Aztecs
(Sullivan). He gives a much different view of the discovery and exploration of the New World. While
glory and praise rings around the world for the bravery of the Spanish to venture to the unknown,
Rivera reveals a dark and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The satirical fashion in which Cortes is portrayed expresses a clear message of lack of political
support (Sullivan). The Spanish cross, flag, and sword shown in the top left corner of the mural give a
three fold message of religious, political, and militant influence used to conquer the natives of the
New World. Religious justification was a guise claimed by the Spanish to use the heathen Indians for
their political and financial gain. Cuauhtémoc, the last of the Aztec emperors, is shown in submission
to a dominant conquistador representing the Spanish victory over the Aztecs (Souter). The Spaniards
are adorned in ornate armor with recognizable European hats. In contrast, the Indians are shown
demoralized, bound as if they are animals. Also, Rivera paints the conquistadors branding the Indians
like livestock dehumanizing their race and effectively wiping out their identity. All the images mesh
creating a distain for the infiltration of the Spanish and the erasing of the Aztecs.
Through artistic expression, Rivera gives the Mexican people an outcry of concern. He pictures Cortes
with a green face symbolizing the diseases brought to the New World by

Brideshead Revisited Religion
In his bestselling book, Brideshead Revisited, Evelyn Waugh portrays the Catholic religion in several
different lights. Some of the characters are faithful Catholics who adhere strictly to the law and letter
of Catholicism. Others find the Catholicism restrictive and quickly discard it as old fashioned . While
some parts of the book are clearly Catholic, others are not as apparent and could even be perceived as
anti Catholic. However, beneath the overarching storyline, Waugh illustrates the Communion of
Saints, portraying different attributes of the Church in Purgatory, on Earth, and in Heaven in his
characters. Julia s free spirited, love thirsty character symbolizes the Church Suffering. Typical of the

Perry Smith Character Analysis
Perry Smith longed for affection from his father and he never received it. This created father issues
that are displayed throughout Perry s life. Perry s actions alluded to his child like behavior in his heart.
Perry looked up to his father, but never received that attention he need at a young age, from this Perry
had been left feeling alone. Throughout Perry s feel tried to fill the void his father left in his heat, with
other important men in his life. Perry s abandonment issues stemmed from the lack of a genuine
relationship with his father; which forced him to seek attention from male figures present in his life.
Perry Smith is still a child at heart. He fantasizes about treasure hunts and finding gold, as if he is still
a little kid. When Perry had been with Dick he talked about a treasure map he wanted to use after they
concluded their murder, This is authentic. I ve got a map. I ve got the whole history. (100). Perry is
always trying to make up for his lost childhood, he never got to fantasize as a child, so this desire is
still present in this adult life. Perry never felt that he was properly loved as a child. Like most children
Perry needed to be loved on by a parent or parental figure, sadly Perry never revived the love and the

Causes And Consequences Of Malaria
Today, the leading cause of death and most serious health concern in Nigeria is Malaria. All but 10%
of malaria cases in the tropical African region occur in Nigeria. Malaria accounts for 30% of deaths in
children below the age of five, a quarter of deaths in infants, and just above ten percent of deaths in
mothers (1, 7). Common symptoms of malaria in adults are headaches, weakness, fever, aches, high
temperatures and loss of appetite. In children excess sleeping, nausea, and vomiting are additional
symptoms (7). The burden of malaria in Nigerian is tremendous due to its detrimental impact on the
physical and emotional health of the people and on the economic growth of the country.
Malaria is caused by the bite of an anopheles gambiae mosquito with a plasmodium parasite inside.
There are four different protozoa, all part of the plasmodium genus, that can cause malaria:
Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malaria, and Plasmodium falciparum. In Nigeria
98% of cases of malaria are due to the P. falciparum species, which causes the most severe form of
malaria resulting in death (3). Nigeria is affected by malaria severely due to its climate, 70 90 degrees
Fahrenheit and at least 60 percent humidity. As the temperature increases the parasite within the
mosquito grows increasingly faster. Another factor that is responsible for the severity of malaria in
Nigeria is the rainfall which leads to pools of standing water which in turn become breeding areas for
mosquitoes

Humanity: What is human nature? What is human purpose? What is the root cause of human
problems?
Man was created in the image of God, but given free thought. With free thought came the thoughts
and ability to sin. It does not matter what religious back ground that you come from or even if you are
religious at all, it is easy to see that the world view characterization of human nature is accurate. When
looking at resources or evidence that human nature has a tendency to sin all you have to do is turn on
the television. The images and stories that we see on the news and through social media are not some
recent events. We have been sinning since the creation of mankind, and with the world social unrest
and current event mankind dies not look like they are going to stop.
Jesus: What is Jesus true identity? What did Jesus do? Why is Jesus identity and work significant for
the Christian worldview?
When looking at the divinity of Jesus Christ with a Christian worldview, we have to understand why
God would allow a person to be divine. After Genesis God should be jaded and unforgiving towards
people. The birth of Jesus represents the rebirth of our faith and the faith of God in us. It proves that
God is a forgiving being that will always Love. The birth of Jesus gives the Christians their worldview
and religious view. The ability to forgive, love, and to be good to all of man is what the divinity of

Effect Of Religion In Art History
Cause and Effect of Religion in Art History
Ryan Hernandez
Lamar Community College Abstract
Religion is everywhere and it has made its impact on human life. It has changed the way humans
think, act, and live. Artists during the renaissance era gravitated to do more paintings about their own
beliefs. This paper will explain how different artists have different beliefs and different ways of
expressing themselves.
Finding what is important is significant to artists and architects. Religion became very important to
people all over the world, including artists and architects. Around the year A.D. 33, Jesus Christ died.

People all had to worship in a private home until the early fourth century A.D. Constantine made
Christianity legally protected from persecution and it soon became the religion of the Roman Empire.
The large and fast growing Christian community needed new buildings to accommodate them, so they
started building Roman basilicas. The Roman basilica became the basis for architects to design new
churches. With Constantine s support, many churches were constructed throughout the Roman
Empire. Christianity also inspired centrally planned churches. These are round churches that radiated
around from a central point and was topped off with a dome. Christianity did not only change religion,
but it changed architecture as well. In the fifth century, emperor Justinian recaptured the Roman
Empire from Ostrogoths in A.D. 540. The Eastern Empire rose to political and artistic importance
under the rule of Justinian. Ravenna became the Italian center for his empire because of its strategic
location and it was an essential port for trade. The city is home to the San Vitale church which was
dedicated to Saint Vitalis. The church s exterior is faced with brick and the inside is decorated with
mosaics and marble. It also has amazing details in its interior

Exploration of a Brave New Individual
Envision a world without despair, and everything is designed a specific way. Total freedom and
perfection. Utopia is an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. Values are the
determining factor to what inhabits a perfect society. Does this pertain to individual freedom, or is
freedom living by societal norms? Aldous Huxley exposes these factors through his futuristic literary
masterpiece Brave New World. Society is controlled by caste systems, open relationships, and the use
of drugs to stay there absolute selves. It is questioned if the citizens of a Brave New World are truly
themselves. COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY, (Page 1) is the moto of the World s state. Five
manufactured social castes infuse the communities, conformity is prevented for one s identity, and a
life on drugs and open sexual relationships create stability. John, reportedly nicknamed John the
Savage for being an outsider of societal norms, attempts to revolutionize himself and the perfect world
he lives in because the world he perceives is causing destruction.
In to the future, there are no families, no mothers, and no reproduction. The government produces
masses of people in single test tubes, and conditions them to conform to an assigned caste. Alphas are
the highest social class, while Deltas are the scum of all classes. The system of rearing a society of

Equality Essay
A young man lives in a place where the word quot;I quot; does not have meaning. It is a society where
there are no individuals. It is, however, a place where you strive to serve your brothers. Equality 7
2521 was taught from birth that the individual is not important. He is in a crazed society where the
only form of government is collectivism.
Equality, at age 21, has absolutely no freedom. He is a a strong, tall young man who stands about six
feet. However, in this society, anyone who is six feet tall was considered to be evil. His dream of
going to the House of Scholars is lost and he is sent to the Hose of Street Sweepers instead. Here the
rules are very strict. He is not allowed to laugh or sing for any reason.

He also wants to prove that being tall does not make you an evil individual.
He feels that he has sinned because he was sent to the Palace of Corrective Detention when he did not
reveal where he has been. He wishes to be forgiven for being sent there. Even though entering the
tunnel is against the law, he feels that he is going to discover things that would improve the society
that he is living in. Equality tries to get the House of Scholars to accept him for the last time. He finds
out when and where they are going to meet and devises a plan. He decides to escape from the Palace
of Corrective Detention and go to where the meeting is being held.
He arrives at the Council of Scholars and look at him in astonishment. The members are afraid at first
because they do not know exactly what Equality is presenting to them. After they realize what it is that
Equality is showing them, they are very insulted that a mere street sweeper was belittling their
intelligence as Council members. Upon hearing that his idea is rejected, he leaps out the window and
runs to the Uncharted Forest where no man survives. He finds out that Liberty has followed him into
the forest. They come together and find an abandoned house.
They enter it and see things that they have never seen before. They find clothes, 2 beds in one room,
and one thing that shocked them the most, a mirror. After looking at the mirror, he now knows for sure

The Death Of The 1960 S
I always felt like I was born in the wrong generation. In the wrong time period. I always had this
weird but strong connection to the 1960 s. All the music, the clothes, the amount of freedom, just
everything. I could never understand it but I m pretty sure I do now. The dreams so now always have
first tarted a few years ago. I would be driving down a dark narrow road with a forest on both sides.
Always super dark. I know it is cold and that it is winter although I can t feel it. I m a young woman
maybe 18, long dark hair, slender and pretty tall. The truck is blue but I have never been able to recall
which kind. I am able to see a bridge up ahead in the headlights, it is very narrow with two lanes and

longed for that same feeling of being so free everyday of my real life. I have never been able to

people, whose souls would for sure join me in the next life. People I loved. We all lived in a small and
quaint farm house on the outskirts of a very small town and this is where I met my soulmate. He was
definitely everything I could ve ever dreamed of. Tall, muscular, very handsome and the most
beautiful green eyes I had ever seen in my life. His name was Adam. I guess you could say it was love
at first sight I mean I fell in love the very moment I laid my eyes on him and I knew he felt the same.
We spent every minute of every day together. He loved me in a way nobody else ever did. I had finally
found my happiness. The love of my life. My other half. We made tons of plans to build a life with
one another. We knew the crazy wild and free days of us being young would eventually come to an
end and we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. We talked for hours, planning our lives
together. How many children we would have, what we would name them, how our house would look,
everything. it would all turn to nothing though. For three years we were attached at the hip. Side by
side 24/7. Until that night...Which brings me

Review Of Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins demonstrates the underlying dynamics between the Jenkins family as
the children are all in the young adult stage. The family constellation of the Jenkins household
encompasses Papa and Mama Jenkins who are the patriarch and matriarch of the family. This family
system also consist of three children Otis, Roscoe, and Betty, and two cousin who are Clyde Stub and
Reggie Jenkins. To celebrate this the auspicious occasion of their parent s 50th wedding anniversary,
the entire extended family are coming home. The Jenkin s family narratives and assumptions has
caused contention, resentment, and in some instances warmth that are unveiled by various interactive
patterns. The family s birth order entails Otis the eldest, Roscoe (RJ) the middle child, and Betty the
youngest. Otis displayed characteristic of being the oldest child that was conveyed by his assertive
behavior, leadership, and self disciplined that was demonstrated throughout the movie. Roscoe
displayed classic middle child syndrome characteristic of fighting for attention, being very creative,
and perception of being left out. Betty the youngest was fun loving, energetic, and unscrupulous.
Clyde parents died when he was young and the Jenkins welcomed him into the household and worked
hard to seek attention for Papa Jenkins. Reggie was fun loving hustler of the family. Roscoe felt
awkward, unloved, insignificant, and unimportant while growing up in the Jenkins

Jewish Perspective On The Ten Commandments In The Bible
The Jewish perspective on the Ten Commandments originated from Moses making an agreement with
God. It is believed that God himself transmitted the Ten Commandments to Moses on two stone
tablets. Moses later spread the word of God. The Ten Commandments are a part of the Hebrew Bible,
The Torah. The Ten Commandments is also known as The Decalogue. The Ten Commandments are
only a small portion of the Torah but according to Lesley, They are the most important part (pg nbr).
The Ten Commandments are listed twice in the Torah. They can be found in both The Book of Exodus
and The Book of Deuteronomy. In the Torah, the Ten Commandments are organized by the first five
commandments are related to God and the second five are related to other human beings. ... Show

These ingredients are well known within the voodoo culture. This is not a new age fad, this is a

African colonies discussed in Robert Farris Thompson s Flash of the Spirit: African and Afro
American Art and Philosophy. Kongo is located in the west central area of Africa near other colonies
such as the Belgian Congo and the People s Republic of Congo Brazzaville. To distinguish themselves

One particular area where artists who make similar objects can be found is in the city of New Orleans,
Louisiana. In Thompson s novel, he discusses the charm creations of Robert Bryant. Bryant designed
a charm which he referred to as the love charm. One would ask for this charm if they desired to force
a person to love them or be attracted to them and only them. Unlike the Kongo nkisi, this charm was
made from a strip of flannel. Bryant would retrieve a foot long piece of flannel that was three inches
wide and nine new needles. Bryant stated that he would fold the cloth, on one end, toward himself. As
he folded the cloth, he would say Come (fold) on (fold) home (fold). He would then proceed to repeat
this step on the untouched end of the cloth. Only this time, instead of repeating that same line, he
would say, Papa (fold) wants (fold) you (fold). Approaching the end of the process, Bryant would
insert each of the nine needles into the cloth in the shape of a cross. As each one was inserted, one
would stick it through the fabric three times while making a statement along the lines of Ma (stick)ry

Fungi such as mushroom, molds, and yeasts are eukaryotic cells with a true nucleus. Most fungi are
multicellular and their cell wall is composed of chitin. They obtain nutrients by absorbing organic
material from their environment decomposers, through symbiotic relationships with plants
(symbionts), or harmful relationships with a host (parasites). They form characteristic filamentous
tubes called hyphae that help absorb material. The collection of hyphae is called mycelium. Fungi
reproduce by releasing spores. Protozoa are unicellular aerobic eukaryotes. They have a nucleus,
complex organelles, and obtain nourishment by absorption or ingestion through specialized structures.
They make up the largest group of organisms in the world in terms of numbers, biomass, and diversity.
Their cell walls are made up of cellulose. Protozoa have been traditionally divided based on their
mode of locomotion: flagellates produce their own food and use their whip like structure to propel
forward, ciliates have tiny hair that beat to produce movement, amoeboids have false feet or
pseudopodia used for feeding and locomotion, and sporozoans are non motile. They also have
different means of nutrition, which groups them as autotrophs or heterotrophs. Viruses are noncellular
entities that consist of a nucleic acid core (DNA or RNA) surrounded by a protein coat. Although
viruses are classified as microorganisms, they are not considered living organisms. Viruses cannot

Like Water For Chocolate Rhetorical Analysis
With the use of narrative strategies, Laura Esquivel was able to portray tone, mood, and purpose
throughout the novel, Like Water for Chocolate . In this passage, he protagonist Tita is described
cooking Ox Tail soup and recalls to the times with her best friend Nacha who passed away. Nacha was
Titas true mother figure in her life, she was the one who taught Tita how to cook, clean, and
everything else. Through Esquivel s style she presents a wistful tone by reminding the reader of the
memories Tita shared with her friend Nacha. Titas cooking is now a tribute that Nachas soul is alive
within her food. Esquivel s notion of Tita and Nachas memories she creates a reminiscent mood

The life she had before her love for Pedro. Esquivel s purpose in this passage is how much life is
changed for love. She includes the slightest detail in a random order because that s how Tita thinks,
she is overwhelmed with herself in the life she was given. It s to show everyone has a breaking point,
but love changes everything. Titas love for Nacha is irreplaceable, she shaped Tita into a woman
before she even was one. Her inexplicable love for Pedro began at such a young age and Tita got what
she wanted, to spend her life with Pedro but not in the way she had hoped. Seeing her love with her
sister throughout many years, did take an emotional toll on her. In addition, Mama Elena s tradition
affected Tita since she was born on that table in the kitchen. Yet no matter how horribly Mama Elena
treat Tita she did not defy her out of rebellion, she ultimately defied her out of exhaustion. Tita
respected her out of love and that s what kept Tita going throughout this novel, the power of love. In

We are informed that Rudy Gekko became heavily involved with drug use, and this eventually led to him taking his own life; Winnie Gekko blames her father s absence and has never forgiven him. This is the primary reason that Winnie Gekko no longer wants her father in her life as she directly holds him responsible for her brother s death. Gordon Gekko sees the situation quite a bit differently and explains that he did everything in his power to stop Rudy Gekko from using drugs right down to paying off the dealer not to sell to his son any further. Whybrow has written a very interesting article entitled Dangerously Addictive. Why we are biologically ill suited to the riches of modern America? (Whybrow, 2009, p.111 115). It seems to offer some input into this matter. Whybrow (2009, p.111 115) makes the case that we can essentially overload the brain s reward system, and if left unchecked, it can turn into rampant greed. Whybrow (2009, p.111 115) makes the very valid point, when we lose our ambition, we call it depression and attempt treatment but, we do not treat unchecked ambition in the same way. Given the nature of Wall Street placing the emphasis on overloading that very system, it seems that Gordon Gekko may actually be a victim of his circumstances to a point, although this hardly excuses him of all his actions. The film highlights a small, but elite, group of people that are highly susceptible to an ideology of greed and live in a system that rewards negative behavior and poor moral choices. The characters caught up in this system feel there will never be any negative outcome for their actions and are shocked when they are faced with the consequences of their actions. This causes the realization that the film showcases a deep addiction and is relatively honest about the outcomes of living with that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Study of the Healing Process from Slavery and Racism Essay A battle lost or won is easily described, understood, and appreciated, but the moral growth of a great nation requires reflection, as well as observation, to appreciate it. Frederick Douglass When you think of slavery, you may want to consider the effects of an earthquake because that s how powerful it was. Like many earthquakes, slavery produced various damaging ramifications to everything around it. This included devastation to family structures and in worst cases the loss of human life; and without doubt slavery claimed the lives of many just as Harriet Jacobs expressed I once saw a slave girl dying after the birth of a child nearly white. According to Frederick Douglass, it was the blood stained gate, the entrance to the hell of slavery, through which I was about to pass. It was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could commit to paper the feelings with which I beheld it (p.4). Frederick Douglass and Toni Morrison literatures examine the stigma of slavery, and the perceptions of its dangers. They illustrate what life was like and the mental as well social impact it had on enslaved African Americans and their life after gaining freedom. Richard Wright convinces his audience in Black Boy that he was tired of the limitations and outcries in the South I was not leaving the South to forget the South, but so that some day I might understand it, might come to know what its rigors had done to me, its children (284). Alice Walker obtains her readers attention by transforming young women into their own characters with a voice using spiritual guidance. In Native Son, Bigger has achieved is lost after being apprehended and brought into captivity, as he transitions back into silence and passivity and begins to recover only in his final confrontation, whereas Douglass in the same prevailing convention, only heals after the regaining of his freedom. Visual Impairments When damage to certain regions of the brain occurs, conditions may develop where one is able to register visual information but incapable to distinguish anything (Anderson, 2009). Consequently, difficulties with visual impairments can include an inability within the brain to interpret and or process visual information (Anderson, 2009). Thus, visual perception impairments or disorders typically refer to the inability to make sense of information received through sight (the eyes) (Weiten, 1998). At one point in time, the Grierson family may have been wealthy. The families past wealth and illustrious heritage would be enviable to anyone who grew up less than rich or with odd family members. The fact that people wanted to have a family like that of Miss Emily s served as a foundation for the jealousy of the people who lived near her. In section one of the story, the town s people described Miss Grierson as a hereditary obligation. The description of Miss Emily as a hereditary obligation can be perceived in two different ways. The first suggested meaning of the phrase could be that since The Grierson Family had been so distinguished in the past, people pay respect to Emily out of reverence for her family. The second suggested meaning of the phrase could be that the people of the town, where our main character lived, seen Emily as an obligation because of the taxes that she did not pay. The use of hereditary in the second suggested meaning alludes to the fact that until Emily passed away; each surviving generation would have to support her in a way, because she failed to pay her taxes. The last example of how our main character s heritage created feelings of envy among the residents in her town is the statement made after Mr. Grierson s death. When Mr. Grierson passed away, the narrator of our story recalls that Emily seemed humanized , and relished the fact that she would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Spanish cross, flag, and sword shown in the top left corner of the mural give a three fold message of religious, political, and militant influence used to conquer the natives of the New World. Religious justification was a guise claimed by the Spanish to use the heathen Indians for their political and financial gain. Cuauhtémoc, the last of the Aztec emperors, is shown in submission to a dominant conquistador representing the Spanish victory over the Aztecs (Souter). The Spaniards are adorned in ornate armor with recognizable European hats. In contrast, the Indians are shown demoralized, bound as if they are animals. All but 10% of malaria cases in the tropical African region occur in Nigeria. Malaria accounts for 30% of deaths in children below the age of five, a quarter of deaths in infants, and just above ten percent of deaths in mothers (1, 7). Common symptoms of malaria in adults are headaches, weakness, fever, aches, high temperatures and loss of appetite. In children excess sleeping, nausea, and vomiting are additional symptoms (7). The burden of malaria in Nigerian is tremendous due to its detrimental impact on the physical and emotional health of the people and on the economic growth of the country. Malaria is caused by the bite of an anopheles gambiae mosquito with a plasmodium parasite inside. There are four different protozoa, all part of the plasmodium genus, that can cause malaria: Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malaria, and Plasmodium falciparum. In Nigeria 98% of cases of malaria are due to the P. falciparum species, which causes the most severe form of malaria resulting in death (3). Nigeria is affected by malaria severely due to its climate, 70 90 degrees Fahrenheit and at least 60 percent humidity. As the temperature increases the parasite within the mosquito grows increasingly faster. Another factor that is responsible for the severity of malaria in Nigeria is the rainfall which leads to pools of standing water which in turn become breeding areas for mosquitoes ... They obtain nutrients by absorbing organic material from their environment decomposers, through symbiotic relationships with plants (symbionts), or harmful relationships with a host (parasites). They form characteristic filamentous tubes called hyphae that help absorb material. The collection of hyphae is called mycelium. Fungi reproduce by releasing spores. Protozoa are unicellular aerobic eukaryotes. They have a nucleus, complex organelles, and obtain nourishment by absorption or ingestion through specialized structures.
