2. How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary
- I think the combination of our main
texts?
product and ancillary texts are extremely
effective. Firstly because they link
massively, for our album cover we have
used a shot that is in black and
white, with the name of our artist in
colour. We have done this because the
manipulation of the photograph links to
the black and white shots in our music
video. Also the non expression from our
artist, explains that she obviously isn’t
happy, which again links to the emotive
expression she uses in the video.
- We then use two photographs
merged together, which are the face
of the artist and the candle that we
use. This is to show how important
the candle is, and what it means to
her. We represent this hugely in our
music video, how the candle is in
nearly every shot.

3. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?
- Our third shot is of our artist walking
down the stairs, she looks solemn and
lonely, which is what we wanted to
bring through, through our music
video, with her body language and
expression. We have used black and
white in this photograph, for the
whole photograph because again it
links to the black and white shots in
our music video.
- Our final back cover photograph is of
the back of our artist with the songs to
the left. We used this shot of her
because we see the female using the
piano in the video, the colours
link, and the font flows through.

4. How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary
texts?
- Our magazine advert combines with our
main music video, because again the female is
looking solemn, she is wearing the same outfit
in the video, the background is sophisticated
and gives the sense of reality. The colours also
are basic and easy to look at, they also link to
the font colour, and although the attention is
all of the female, there is still enough
interesting things in the background to
observe, like the video. Also she is facing
directly to the camera, as she is in the video, to
connect and to express the emotion to the
audience.

• What is Branding?
In the music industry branding is
A brand is the is the
extremely important in the fact
idea of name of a specific
product, that consumers that the audience can distinguish
cant connect and artists a part, and there genre for
identify with, by instance. Music branding uses a
knowing the name, song to make a connection to the
slogan, logo, or the product and also the sound if to
design of the company. reinforce brand identity. Branding
Branding is when that is about a creating an image that
image is marketed, so has a connection and people can
that it is clearly particularly link to a type of
recognisable by people, product. A key element of creating
and identified with a
a successful brand is consistency

there are many other across the range of products.
companies offering the
same product.
6. How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary
texts?
Branding.
• We looked at the artist ‘Adele – Someone Like
You’ as this links well to our brand image, both
the video and album cover. Firstly because the
video is in black and white, it’s a slow paced
song which fits with the slow paced editing and
you can feel the emotion coming from the artist.
We also wanted this to come through in our
video, by using close ups on her eyes, and to use
direct address to connect with the audience. We
used one colour for the females dress as Adele
has done here, to create this simplistic yet
sophisticated feel to our video. Her most recent
album cover also expresses her brand image, as
she isn’t looking directly into the camera, with a
sad expression upon her face. It links to our
brand image of being heartfelt, and really makes
the audience sympathize with her.
7. How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary
texts?
Branding.
• Alternative, quirky, heartfelt.
These are the three words that will sum up
our artist in our music video. We have
decided this because the female will not be
the stereotypical female of dressing similar
to other females, you will be able to
understand what the female means through
the video and how it is affecting her. We also
decided this because these words link to the
song of it not being an upbeat song with fast
paced editing and busy colours. We would
like the female to come across like this
because we find it interesting and think the
audience will enjoy this type of branding.
Her facial expressions, how she acts, and
looks directly into the camera.
8. How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?
Branding.
- We have constructed a sense of
brand identity using media language,
by how the artist performs in the
music video. For example, her brand
is a quirky yet sophisticated, innocent
individual, and we identify this by
having her wander round locations,
holding her ‘jar of hearts’.
- Her facial expression is always low,
with her face to the ground, and emotive
expression, is always upon her face, to
express this innocence, but isn’t immature
about the narrative, which explains the
sophistication of this. Also the artists
clothing identifies the female’s brand,
because of the minimal colours, it
represents her as a person, that she is
pure, and also gives that sense of reality.
Joanna Embley.
9. How effective is the combination
of your main product and ancillary
texts?
Branding.
- We have constructed a sense of brand
identity through our ancillary tasks, by
using black and white photographs, for the
front cover and an inside photograph. We
did this because again it links to the video,
with the black and white shots, and keeps
the innocence of the video.
- Also we see as part of her brand she is trying
to connect with the audience, through how she
uses direct address on the front cover but also
in the music video. We also used a plain
expression for the artist, again because she
does this in the video, and it portrays a blank
atmosphere to the whole video, allowing the
artist to connect to the audience, letting them
understand the narrative how they want to.
But also not to confuse the audience, if the
female was happy.
Joanna Embley.
10. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
Branding.
- We have used the same font throughout
the album, to keep the artist’s brand the
same, also the font is girly and is a baby
pink, to show that she is feminine, but not
to take the focus away from the artist. We
have also used this font and colour on the
magazine advert, again so it flows, but also
to keep the same brand, and so the audience
can identify this, and don’t get confused. We
have also placed the release date and
information, again so the audience don’t get
confused about what is being promoted to
them. This is so the audience understand
that this font, links to the brand of the
artist, and will automatically know who it
is, by just looking at the font and colour.
