Evaluation Task 1
1. Evaluation Task 1
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Forms and conventions
A form is the overall shape of a media product. The
media form will typically determine the medium that is
used.
Conventions are a Media that comes in a format that
we recognise; like a list of ingredients, or a set of
clues. It is useful to follow conventions of the genre
you are hoping to achieve because it is a tried and
tested formula and has clearly worked in the past.
3. Here I have likened the start of our video to Little Mix’s who is
a girl band in the same genre of ours. Adding in a logo at the
start of the video is a common convention of a music video,
especially in pop. It is great for introducing new artists like
Maria is. It also starts her band off. The font we have chosen is
useful for merchandise as it is recognisable.
4. COSTUM
EIn most or all pop video’s the clothing is provocative and suggestive.
Our video is obviously a lot less sexualised as that’s not the artist who
Maria is asking to be. Her videos are more flirty that provocative- but
still showing a bit of skin, so in a way we are still using the convention
which works so well.
5. Here again I am portraying a similarity between my video and Little Mix
again. Little mix used a more red-ish tint that a black whereas we did it in
complete silhouette. This works well as it shows of the artists body and puts
focus on the movement. It worked especially well for us as we added an
element of a wind machine which highlighted her hair flowing as she
danced.
6. The composition of our shots were very common amongst pop songs, here I
have compared it to the spice girls.. We put Maria (the lead singer) at the
forefront and her so called back up dancers surrounding her at the back of
the shot . It immediately gives the performer a sense of attitude and a lead
singer persona. Especially as this song had a sassy attitude throughout this
shot type really helped us instantly encapsulate the attitude.
7. It common in music videos to divide the different
performers into an identification of colour,
especially in a group, so for the audience it is
easier to differentiate between them. The colours
are usually different but connected in some way
to symbolise the groups unification. In my video
instead if the clothing we used coloured
backgrounds instead which were all a pastel with a
hint of neon colour.
8. Dance breaks are a key aspect of music videos. They show off how the
artists can move telling the audience they are all rounded. Also it is purely
aesthetically pleasing for an audience as music videos tend to get
extremely boring and repetitive so to add in a visual aspect such as a
stylised quick dance break it is a sigh of relief. Little mix and artists in that
genre are a culprit of this.
9. Beforewestarted to maketheDigi pack weresearched other artistscover in
our genreof pop. EllieGoulding becameapparent so welooked at thekind
off convention that wereused; it showed acloseup of theartistsface. This
wasacommon convention for asingleartist, it ishardly ever art work
especially for agirl. AsaCD with their faceon it sellstheir imagewhich is

10. Artists all well as selling a normal edition of there album, will usually
distribute deluxe editions which the die hard fans usually by for collection
purposes. The edition also usually comes which an extra video or song that
that the audience hasn’t heard. Seeming as its deluxe it has to have
something special about it. This is why we used the colour scheme of black
and gold which visually pleases the buyer. Other artists in this genre also do
this.
11. Websites within the genre of pop are all about colour and promotion. Here the foxes website is pink which works
with the white text. The central images of the website is an image of the artists themselves, this starts the brand
and is typical within the genre of pop as its all about image rather than the music. Next to a clear image of her face
is a link to her performing at the iTunes festival and also links to buy tickets. Similarly to this we chose to put the
newly released video of ‘I got my eye on you’ which plays on loop as soon as you enter the site which is also a
common convention as the audience have to consciously turn it off there for having to hear or watch a part of it.
We also used deep pinks and light blues for the back ground. This appeals to younger audiences, this is why Foxes
(and other pop artists) have used this as well because colour and fun appeals to the target audience that links with
pop.
