The document discusses Atlassian's implementation of asset management using JIRA. Atlassian needed a way to track its growing number of assets across multiple offices. It implemented JIRA to catalog its IT assets, including laptops, desktops, and software. This allowed Atlassian to know the value, location, and condition of all assets. The process involved creating asset tags, building a JIRA project to define asset types and statuses, and capturing asset data. This provided easy access to asset information and improved management. Going forward, Atlassian aims to expand tagging and integrate additional tools like Casper and JIRA Service Desk for enhanced asset oversight.

Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) has been widely adopted for companies looking to accelerate their digital transformation. These companies realized that batch-based, point-to-point Integrations slow down the business and leave a technical debt. EDA improves the ability to react to changes in real-time and improves the overall customer experience. API-led connectivity approach unlocks data through APIs allowing companies to create a composable business. In this session, I will share how to integrate Salesforce with multiple ERPs by combining EDA & API-led Connectivity through MuleSoft.

There is no single approach to building SaaS applications on AWS. Domain, compliance, performance, legacy considerations, and business forces all play a big role in shaping the architecture of your solutions. While there are many strategies for implementing SaaS on AWS, there are some common architectural patterns that are used to address the varying needs of SaaS providers. In this session, we review in detail a collection of SaaS reference architectures that represent a spectrum of approaches to addressing identity, onboarding, storage partitioning, tenant isolation, billing, deployment, regional distribution, and operational models. Our goal is to provide a menu of concrete solutions that can provide insights into how AWS constructs are leveraged to realize SaaS best practices on AWS.

At SoundCloud we managed to break away from the monolith while delivering key business features. Our journey towards a microservices architecture has not been a straightforward one. We experimented a lot to reach the set of tools and technologies that we use today. We changed how we build our applications. We introduced specific apis for our mobile and web clients. We call them BFFs (backend for the frontend). They became the central piece of SoundCloud’s architecture. We rethought how we monitor our services. We created a service registry for knowledge sharing. While making all these changes, we benefited from the learnings of our peer companies. This talk will share our learnings from this journey: what worked for us and what we moved away from.

How We end the Walking Dead in the Enterprise - Session Sponsored by VersentAmazon Web Services
We've all experienced it; attempt after attempt to bring contemporary transformation to the workplace, only to be attacked by 'the old guard' of the technology landscape. In 2016, companies are learning that many old methods/processes/technologies have zombified, or are already infected and dying. Old world solutions, powered by the fear of the new, the uncertainty of change and the doubt that it will scale, are quickly limiting companies by their inability to rapidly change.
However a growing numbers of CIO's, and leadership teams have embraced the 'full stack' revolution and are reaping the benefits of true Mode 2 transformation. We'd like to share some insight from real world customers who've built 'new world' material ecosystems that stands the rigour of these internal and external threats. Leaders and technologists who've leaned into change and avoided becoming another member of 'the walking dead'.
Topics Include:
Strategies to deliver elastic, utility cloud across your enterprise.
Square peg, round hole & your Operating Model – Mode 2.
Don't bypass Service Management – (hint: it's not faster). Tips & Tricks.
Belligerent, aggressive automation – JDI.
Tales from the Battlefield – a real world example.

Tear Up Your Roadmap and Get Out of the BuildingAtlassian
You’d never knowingly ship something to your customers that didn’t deliver value, would you? Would you still stand your ground if you were under pressure to get a team of developers working on something?
You probably know that one of Atlassian’s most well-known values is “Don’t f*** the customer”, so learn what happened when a lean product team decided to tear up the roadmap because they were brave enough to admit they didn’t understand their customers well enough.

In this talk, Maarten Arts of Avisi will look at common varieties of color blindness. We will look at apps through the eyes of a color-blind person. And we will discover what color-blind people struggle with.
Regardless of whether you're a designer or developer, this talk will equip you with the skills and the tools you need to make sure that your app works for color-blind people.
Creating Inclusive Experiences: Balancing Personality and Accessibility in UX...Atlassian
The words we choose have the power to include or alienate our users. The reality is that for many, English is spoken as a second language. And unless you're going to localize your product for those major non-English speaking markets, you'll need to thoughtfully create content that is accessible to a larger audience.
But how do we create products that maintain a sense of personality without isolating a wide audience of non-native speakers?
Join Atlassian Content Designer, Roana Bilia, as she walks you through why thoughtful, inclusive content, is key to creating well-designed user experiences. You'll walk away with foundational principles for good UX copy when optimizing your product UI, a few quick wins that you as creators and developers can incorporate into your next products, as well as a set of mistakes to avoid that companies—including Atlassian—have made, which prioritized native speakers but isolated non-native speakers.
Beyond Diversity: A Guide to Building Balanced TeamsAtlassian
We hear it all the time, and we get it. Diversity and inclusion are important! But isn't it an HR problem? HR may be able to help with diversity but inclusion or creating an inclusive environment is everyone's responsibility. So how do we create an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and engages and supports everyone? Isabel Nyo will be sharing best practices and lessons she has learned along the way. She will also be sharing her experience as a minority, a female technical leader, in the technology industry.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.
Listen to the keynote address and hear about the latest developments from Rachana Ananthakrishnan and Ian Foster who review the updates to the Globus Platform and Service, and the relevance of Globus to the scientific community as an automation platform to accelerate scientific discovery.
