Introduction & History of Internet
Considered as the world-wide broadcasting with capability including
mechanism for information dissemination and interaction between
individuals and their computers regardless of geographic location, (Leiner.
et al, (1997).The Internet is the physical network linking computers across
the globe, consisting of the infrastructure of network servers and
communication links between them being used to hold and transport a vast
amount of information,(Chaffey and Chadwick,2016, p.123).

History of the internet cont.
According to (Leiner, et. al, 1997).,the Internet is the result of benefits of
sustained investment and commitment to research and development of
information infrastructure( Leiner, et. al, 1997). They argues that the first
recorded social interactions description likely to be enabled through
networking was written in August1962 as a series of memos by J.C.R.
Licklider, the head of the computer research program at DARPA ,while
discussing his idea of globally interconnected set of computers through
which people could quickly access data and programs from any site.

 1960s: A limited number of computers connected for military and
researches purposes in the USA forming Advanced Research Projects
Agency Network (ARPAnet).
 1970s: Due to the Internet growth a Transmission Control Protocol and
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) are developed by two scientists named
Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf as communications model setting
standards for the ways data could be transmitted between several
networks
 1983s: ARPAnet adopted the TCP/IP and researchers started
assembling the network known today as the Internet
 1990s: The World Wide Web (www) which helped popularized the
Internet among the public and as a crucial step in the development of
the valuable Internet is invented by a computer scientist named Tim
Berners-Lee

Consumer Trends
Diverse communication channels:
It is obvious that businesses previously used two main communication channels at their discretion
regarding the type of information to provide namely e-mails and phone calls. Today businesses
and consumers interact through live chat and social media platforms providing consumers to ask
any question or query about the product and service and obtain the business response as quickly
as possible which is important for the business otherwise its brand reputation could be
jeopardized.
Changes in consumer expectations:
In the past businesses set the opening and closing time for their businesses and consumers had
no choice but going along. Today consumers can access products and services at their choosing
time with the introduction of mobile phones and e-commerce and expect getting answers straight
away otherwise they will try a another supplier among the countless available able to meet their
demands, therefore businesses are taking this change in consumers behavior seriously
Increased consumer’ connection over the past 5 years:
Technology has fueled connectivity bringing communities together over the past years and
businesses adapting this trend by providing solutions to consumer’s satisfying them speedily and
almost instantaneously compared to past years

SUMMARY
The rise in the number of diverse devices supporting digital media and an increased
worldwide internet access and speed, has helped consumers to turn toward their digital
devices when seeking informed decisions. They have an option to access any media
content of their choice regardless of the geographic location. As one of the most
important achievement in networking technology providing communication to billion
users world-wide, the Internet allow for a strong digital platform for marketer’s to
attract, engage and finally delight customers online with great contents, reaching them
in a new and personal way which deepen customer relationships hence increases
value to both consumers and organisations.
