Investigating Concepts Of A Digital Device Essay
The purpose of this assessment is to investigate concepts relating to a system that is used within a
digital device. For my assessment, I chose the A5158 model MP3 player that belongs to my dad.
The features of this device include:
High Contrast LCD Display, Resolution 96 x 32
Integrated Flash Memory
Plays MP3 and WMA Digital Music Files FM Radio
4GB Stores up to 1000 songs
USB 2.0 Hi Speed for fast file transfers
Key lock preventing accidental key presses
Integrated 100mAh Lithium rechargeable battery for up to 5 hours playback
Data Representation
In computer terms, a bit is a numeric value either a zero or a one that holds a single unit of digital
information. Bits are usually strung together in a sequence eight bits normally equals one byte. Bits
are used to write binary numbers, which can be used to store decimal numbers such as 244 or 93 as
patterns of ones and zeroes.
ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange is a computer code that was
developed to allow computers to convert human text into bits that computers could understand. In
ASCII code, for example, the letter A is 65 a number that can then be converted into the binary
value 1000001.
In the 1960 s, the 7 bit ASCII table was first adopted. Within a 7 bit number, 128 different
characters can be stored English letters from A Z (upper and lower case), numeric digits from 0 9
and special characters such as !/*+. The eighth bit was used to detect transmission errors.

Stress In The Baboons
This episode features Stanford University s Neurobiologist, Robert Sapolsky, who has a high
understanding of stress and how it affects our not just our health, but our bodies. The main point
Robert is conveying to the audience states that stress leads to serious health consequences, such
as high blood pressure, weakened immune system, fatigue, development of fat and even the
shortening of life expectancy. Robert Sapolsky researches the science behind human stress by
exploring non human primates, the baboons in their natural habitat in Kenya, Africa. After thirty
years of research, Sapolsky believes that baboons are apparently the perfect source of
exemplifying human stress because they are naturally aggressive toward one another, including
their offspring, and the pain and stress factors appear to be the same in humans; especially
dealing with stressful jobs and verbally abusive bosses. In the baboon s case, if you are a full
controlled male, you can expect lower stress levels, and if you are the submissive, abused baboon,
the stress level can be much higher. The only way Robert can take a look at the serious health
consequences related to human stress in the baboon is by taking the unsuspecting submissive
monkey s blood and examining the stress hormones in the lab. The results of a submissive baboon
revealed high blood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The research Robert Sapolsky gathered is true for humans because I experienced abnormally
high blood pressure, high heart rate to where I can hear my heart beating and to where I ended
up in the emergency room because I felt like I was going to have a heart attack as a result of a
stressful job at Publix. My mom also experienced similar stress symptoms at her jobs, such as
fatigue, high blood pressure, and blood clots. I certainly believe if a human being experiences
prolonged stress throughout their life, their life expectancy can be cut

Summary Of The Impossibly Great Commission
Better you than me. The words have stuck to the front of my mind for weeks. After preaching a
message at a friend s church in my hometown, these were the only words one particular stranger
said to me. That is, these are the only words he said to me before giving me a pat on the back
and handing me a crumbled up ball of cash (both of these gestures were received completely
unsolicited). The sermon I delivered that morning was titled The Impossibly Great Commission .
Looking back now, I could have probably worded that better, but the message was clear, we are
purpose for a reason and we cannot achieve that purpose in our own strength. More simply put, We
need Jesus. Now fast forward one or two months to the present when I set foot for the first time
on foreign soil. Here multiple strangers with hugs and celebration greeted me. Their first words
to me? My home is your home, follow me. I am now serving as a missionary to Central America.
The people here are rich with love and humility. Every person I have met has been exceedingly
kind to me. Some children run to me to tell me their favorite Bible verses in English, the teens
invite me to play sports with them, and everyone insists on having me over for a delicious meal.
Christ gave us the commission to go and make disciples of all nations, so for now this is where
He has me. Hopefully the short account I gave of the people here in this culture made clear that I
am very thankful for the opportunity to

The Affects Of Climate Change On Marine Mammals
Effects of climate change on marine mammals Introduction Climate change is the change in
distribution of weather patterns usually after an extended period. Climate change is caused by
factors such as variation in solar radiation, biotic processes, volcanic eruptions and plate tectonic
oceans are known to be affected by climate. Marine mammals are very sensitive to changes in the
ocean environment. It is anticipated that climate change effects on marine mammals mediated
majorly by changes in prey distribution and abundance and the adaptable species may be able to
respond to this changes to some extent.
Observations made during the previous years on marine mammals show that certain species maybe
vulnerable than others this may include those with limited habitat such as narwhals. Reviews
provided by top organization, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change indicate that climate
change is likely to induce changes in temperatures and adjustment associated with ocean circulation,
sea level, and ice coverage.
Impact of climate change on marine mammals occur differently according to type of mammal and
its dwelling place either deep sea dweller or surface sea dwellers (Aguirre, Ostfeld, Daszak, 2012).
Marine species distribution is affected by multiple factors; ecological, habitat related and
anthropogenic factors. Habitat distributed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cyclones, heavy rainfall, and storms will affect dolphins in coastal areas by bringing large
collections of nutrients and sediments into the inshore regions (In Abate, 2015). High
concentrations of heavy metals and organic compounds have damaging effects on marine
mammals. It is clear that the marine mammals are much sensitive to any changes in the ocean
environment. The changes affect their food chain due to the changes in physical conditions like
temperature. One of the main climate change that affects them is during the El Nino

Perpetual Peace Kant Eu
The EU represents Kant s idea of a federation of states in perpetual of peace in many of the more
overarching ways, it must be noted that it is not a perfect fit. Before diving into the support of this
claim, it is important to realize what the European Union is so to fully understand what it could
represent. The EU is a political and economic union, hoping to facilitate free movement in terms of
trading, with the intent of building peaceful relationships and increasing economic growth. Perhaps
the biggest reason the EU was created was to increase peace throughout Europeand hopefully take
away the possibility of another World War. The European Unions serves as a facilitator for
agreement between each nation inside the union, and provides the... Show more content on

The EU would not function without the consensus between countries for a goal of perpetual
peace. The economic goals of the EU, while not totally representative of Kant s views, are not
surprisingly in our ever globalizing and growing capitalist world. Although Kant s essay on
perpetual peace was written in 1795, parts of it are eerily predictive and representative of the EU
today. This can mainly been seen in his proposition of a peace program between multiple nations,
exactly what the EU has become. Kant focuses on the possibility of perpetual peace instead of
going to war any time there is a conflict. He emphasizes the importance on connected nation states
that do not interfere with each other s governments or constitutions and to end the imperialism of
one nation dominating another. The EU represents this because it was made with the intent of
perpetuating peace throughout their continent, desperate for this stability after the horrors of
WWII. The EU is connected through treaties and common ideas, respecting each nation within the
union. Kant focuses on the idea of nations independently connecting themselves to each other for
the goal of peace and therefore a heightened society. It is clear that the EU was trying to do this,
and they were able to accomplish it. Kant also brings up the idea of free travel between the
connected nations, something that is very prevalent in the EU

Always the Lowest Price at Wal-Mart Essay
Always the Lowest Price at Wal Mart
Over the past 20 years, the nature of the American retailing market has changed dramatically, going
from Mom and Pop s boutiques to mega retail stores like Wal Mart. Especially in the last decade,
Sam Walton s discount stores have proliferated in almost every city across the United States and
Canada. But the opinions about the effects of Wal Mart in small towns divide the rural population
in two groups. Through economic, cultural and social arguments, the anti Wal Mart activists and
the advocates defend their point of view about the expansion of the store in small communities.

The tranquil and friendly way of life in small communities is threatened by the urban one stop
shopping culture of the giant. The population in regions does not want a store where the
atmosphere is cold and artificial. In essence, the anti Wal Mart activists want to stop the store from
establishing itself in rural communities because they believe that it would destroy their economic
and cultural identity. On the opposite side, the population in favour of Wal Mart thinks that the
creation of new stores in rural regions stimulates the economy and that the local businesses are
responsible for the problems faced on Main Street because they are not adapted to the modern
retailing market. First of all, the opening of a mega discount store in a region attracts people from
other small towns. This affluence of customers is beneficial to the local businesses that sell
complementary products near the Wal Mart. The advocates of the store also affirm that the
company creates jobs. But if local merchants want to benefit from Wal Mart, they have to evolve
with the market and change their way of doing things. As said by Jo Ann Johnston, adaptation is
the key element: ``People are beginning to realize that small town merchants need to adapt to
changes in their communities, the economy, and their industries instead of chastising an outside
company`` (1995, p.222). The

Humans have been innovators, from the first shapers of stone and wood into crude implements, to
the inventors of electronic gadgets that entertain us and help us manage our lives from our shirt
pockets.
Today innovation is based not only on the challenges, problems, and needs but also on the social,
political, and cultural conditions prevailing in the prospective market. People fear the unknown Гі
especially when they believe that it could adversely affect their health or established social systems.
The triangle of technology, innovation, and society is one of the central spheres of modern
activities. Successful innovation frequently is not only the result of scientific technical progress.
Non technical aspects, such as political and economic framework conditions, acceptance by the
population, or ethical questions also play an important role in the decision whether and which
technologies contribute to the solution of societal problems.
Background Theory: By the 1980 s, the use of technology began to escalate.

Overpopulation Of Iceland
Iceland is considered one of the fastest warming places on earth. Glaciers cover more than 10%
of the Iceland and are losing an average of 11 billion tons of ice per year. This ice is important to
iceland for many reasons. The glaciers ice stores water for the people of Iceland and the glacial
rivers drive the turbines that power most of the island. Helgi Bjornsson at the University of Iceland
s Institute of EarthSciences says that in a generation there might not be enough glacial water for
either of these things. Not only this but the loss of weight from these glaciers is causing Iceland to
rise at a rate of 1.4 inches per year. Scientists believe that this rising is causing more volcanic
activity. Iceland has experienced three eruptions

The Wrong Direction
Religion has convinced modern society to not only consider humanity s well being: what God
wants and our place in either Heaven or Hell in the afterlife (Sutter). Religion, even though there
are billions of followers, is based solely on what just a few important religious characters have said.
For instance, Islamwas started by a man named Mohammed, who communicated with Godand
became a prophet. Nobody saw him or the angel which visited Mohammed at this time, however,
when Mohammed came down from the mountain where he was praying, and began to spread the
message, people who had previously been polytheists converted to Mohammed s new religion:
Islam. Over the course of Mohammed s life, as depicted in the movie The Message , many... Show

The second purpose of religion is to instill hope, such as the concept of an afterlife. When a
Christian dies, others will believe that they will be able to see each other again when they die,
based on the concept that there is a Heaven, where all Christians go (given they prayed for
forgiveness and didn t commit any high level crimes, such as murder). However, if that person
disobeyed the Christian rules, that person will go to Hell, an eternal damnation. This specific
element of religion is one of the main reasons for joining a religion the hope of Heaven for
Christians, and similar environments in other religions. However, this isn t the only way the
hope of religion is used. When a religious individual prays, many times they will ask a favor of
God, such as Please God, let me get an A on this paper , or Please God, help me lose weight .
This is where I personally begin to have problems rather than focusing on achieving something
personally, such as studying and working hard on a paper, or going to the gym every day to lose
weight, prayer is commonly used as a vehicle to hope that something will come true with
virtually no work put in. Another example of this hope is if one has a headache and prays to
God it will go away, there will be two outcomes: it goes away naturally, then God is celebrated by
the individual as their savior, or the headache persists and the individual believes that God is
simply testing one s faith. I would

L. A. Confidential Theme
Focus On L.A. Confidential
L.A. Confidential is a gorgeous, but tough throwback that did right things to Hollywood. Despite
the film breaking most of today s filmmaking rules, it is considered as one film that will keep the
audience glued on the screen. The film cited its origin from James Elroy s nearly impossible to film
cult novel. The film raises stars with three main characters. The film embroils the three characters in
a vigorously surprising tale, which puts them in a clichГ© free true mystery. The movie brings out
the true mystery rather that the thriller revealing all the endless complications.
L.A. Confidential comes out with a full expanse of 1950s Los Angeles, a film noir paradise of
knee weakening glamor and smoldering evilly blended together with little dirty secret. The main
theme the film focuses on is the form of corruption that has deep roots in the town. Wish fulfilling
whores, drugs, mobsters and brutally racist cops resemble the movie stars. The actors all have the
ambition of dragging the movie to the gutter; the films reach its best in terms of achievement.

Lord Of The Flies Civilization Analysis
Within any civilization, there are multiple key components required in order to create a
functioning society. As explained through Lord of the Flies by William Golding, these pivotal
building blocks of a civilization can play a great part into bringing a group of people to society, or
drag them all down into savagery. The conch shell is an excellent example of political legitimacy
and democratic power. Although, while this device can be used for good; providing others with
order and sanity, it can also be used for the utter destruction of a civilization. The conch shell in
Lord of the Flies by William Goldingbegins as civilization and order, becomes the fragility of
power and influence, and concludes with the collapse of any civilized thoughts. Civilization and
order can be found within every society, and this is no exception within the group of boys in the
beginning of the novel. Throughout the exposition of the story, governance over the group of
boys was unknown. No order was established to influence the boys to cooperate and fulfill the
needed tasks to get off the island. Although, there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked
him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance...yet most powerfully, there was the conch.
The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing
balanced on his knees, was set apart (Golding 22). The conch shell was able to control and demand
a large audience. It provided Ralph with a

Essay on Infinite Surds
| INFINITE SURDS | Ria Garg| | The purpose of my investigation is to find the general statement
that represents all values of k in an infinite surd for which the expression is an integer. I was able
to achieve this goal through the process of going through various infinite surds and trying to
find a relationship between each sequence. In the beginning stages of my investigation I came
across the sequence of `a1= 1+1 a2= 1+1+1 a3 = 1+1+1+1 While looking at the sequence I came to
the realization that there is a very obvious pattern between each n value. The answer to each n
value was plugged into the next n value. For example if you look at this sequence a1= 1+1 =

Also since the sequence is a square root and, the graph shows no evidence of a root value I can
disregard the negative answer to the infinite surd. x= bВ±b2 4ac2a X=1+1 41 121 x=1+52 Now, I
would like to carry on my investigation and look at another sequence of infinite surds where the
first term of the sequence is 2+2. In the beginning steps of my investigation I came up with the
formula an+1 = 1+an, which I will be using to further my investigation and find the first 10 terms
of my new sequence. A1 = 2+2 a6 = 2+a5 = 1.847759065 = 1.999962351 a2 = 2+a1 a7 = 2+a6 =

Analyzing Yue Minjun s Art
Yue Minjun
Art has many faces, and windows to be seen at from. You can choose to look at paintings that
represent thoughts from the artist mind, or you can choose to look at art that is meant to pleas the
eyes. My favorite is when you can see the battles going in the artist mind when he created his art
reflecting on the work, and you can feel that in Yue Minjun work.
At the first glance his work might seem to you very happy and amusing with the blue skies, and
bubble pink faces, but after a couple moment in front one of the pieces you can start to feel the
underlying sense of uneasiness, and it can get to a point where you cannot escape the tenseness. His
work variety between paintings on giant canvases with vibrant colors, and sculptures, they both
featuring almost exclusively laughing male figures with unchanging traits, most of the time these
figures are self portraits presented either as single figure or replicated ... Show more content on

protocol surrounding hats. , and that is exactly why I like it. In all of the paintings in the series
the futures of his face are identical, the same laugh, the closed eyes, even the angle of the head.
The only thing that is different is the hat. The reason why I like the series as whole is because it
reminds me of how the society is running on hats and labels, people run after power or names
rather than work on their individual identities. I think we live in a world where it is more
important to form a socially acceptable image rather than being your true self, under all these hats
we all just the same, made out flesh and blood. The absurdity of the hysterical laugh is also a huge
element in the painting, laughing at the reality, mocking the

Realism, as stated by Washington University, is the faithful representation of reality that describes
and depicts everyday middle class life. It (Realism) demonstrates the hardships and problems
people undergo in order to be able to achieve moral success and mental peace. Naturalism depicts
the similar ideals as realismin portraying a situation in a more negative and detached tone
(literarydevices.net). The ideas are mostly focused on the character being more human and more
prone to making mistakes and going through struggles that may seem hard to overcome, but in the

Even though his family tried to make him see that what he did was bad and considered
backstabbing , he chose not to change and continued being selfish, greedy and ambitious. Later
on, the man s biggest success came when he had a situation where he had to choose between
bankruptcy and not changing his personality and treatment towards others; as well as
overcoming his ambition and love towards money and prosperity. This downturn in his life
impacted him in a way that made him realize that all those crooked deals and crimes he did were
unjust; which later on led for him to become bankrupt and poor (by his own choice). Although
he was not wealthy anymore, he gained a lot much more; he gained morality, spiritual peace,
family, friends, and most of all his true destiny. Naturalism, on the other hand, is demonstrated in
the novel written by Jack London titled To Build a Fire which sets play on a snowy freezing
cold mountain. The protagonist is a man who is trying to get to a campground under harsh
weather in order to deliver warm bread . Despite him having prior knowledge of the dangers of

A Research Study On Drug Testing
When Pharmaceutical companies are trying to develop a new drug they begin the process of a
clinical trial. A clinical trial in drug testing is when researchers test a new drug on live participants
and record information such as side effects and results. Recently, pharmaceutical companies are
trying to increase their profits so they have been outsourcing. Outsourcing is when clinical trials go
to a clinical researchorganization (CRO), which are big businesses. One crucial step in a clinical trial
is informed consent. The participants must know they are part of a research study, the possible
risks, and outcomes. This information should be presented in a manor in which the individual
can understand. However, after watching the videos this crucial step is sometimes overlooked or
not taken seriously during overseas drug testing. Often times testing is done overseas in areas that
are over populated and have a large gap between the wealthy and the poor. When researchers are
conducting the trial they have been known to just completely skip over this step or they give
individuals the information on the clinical trial but the participants are illiterate and unable to
understand any part of it. This is seen as unethical practice. Ethically, all participants are required
to know they are part of a clinical trial and they need to know all risks and outcomes projected
before participating.
When government officials were interviewed about the clinical trials they stated that the

In addition of that, BSB Inc is having the problem of sales decrease due to its incompetent of

Question 1: Does BSB, Inc., enjoy any competitive advantages or core competencies?
In order to explain to the situation, BSB Inc or Kershaw have to understand that their business or
corporate strategy should always be monitored and develop as well as its must response to any
changes in the market. Previous Kershaw s market survey is only valid at the certain period due to
the changes of environment. In short term, the business performance maybe looks good but to

At the present, yes, BSB Inc does enjoy the competitive advantages of being on campus for several

Gender Roles In Chrysanthemums
The short story Chrysanthemums, written by John Steinbeck in 1938, portrays the conformity to
societal gender roles of females throughout most of the nineteenth century. Many women in the
1930s were entering the workforce where they were faced with lower wages and harsh working
conditions. Married women at the time often faced more hostility in the workplace, due to the fact
that they highlighted the image of women taking away men s jobs, and the fact that a womans place
is in the home taking care of their children. While women were able to work, stereotypical societal
roles continued to shape the way women lived inside and outside of the workplace. In the home, the
roles included cooking, cleaning, watching the children and providing... Show more content on

The love she wishes for herself and the peddler is a lustful, rebellious one. It serves more as a
passageway from her normal and enforced life to a life of free will and wondering. The shining
of her soul illuminates the need for Elisa to feel something that doesn t come from the reliance
of her husband whom she is tied down to. Once the peddler leaves, and Elisa sees her flower has
been tossed out onto the road, like her fantasy relationship with the peddler, and her eyes would

men or other controlling forces.
The transformation of Elisa s clothes also serve as a symbol of her longing to escape the
traditional womanly roles she is forced to take on. At the start of the story, Elisa wears a figured

Libertarianism And Anti-Landmines
Motorolla, a multinational telecommunication company was involved in selling electronic parts to
mine manufacturers, indirectly contributing to the deaths caused by anti personnel landmines.
Back in January 1996, the news broadcasting Motorola s semiconductor chip being found in a
Chinese made landmine in Cambodia spurred public debate over the company s ethical code of
conduct (HRW, 1997). Anti personnel mines are explosive weapons built to harm and kill enemies,
they are placed just below the grounds to eliminate mass enemies during the war. During that time,
particularly in the USA people were aware of the atrocities produced by anti personnel mines and
the public held various campaigns to combat against it. Despite war having ended, unexploded...

Once Grace was done reuniting with her cousin we went inside, and Mr.Ferguson told us the rules

We heard Luke coming towards the door, so I sprinted towards the porch while Audri was

Adverse Influence of Disney Movies on the Younger Generation
Disney Movies Having a Bad Influence On the Younger Generation
Our heritage and ideals, our codes and standards the things we live by and teach our children are
preserved or diminished by how freely we exchange ideas and feelings . (Disney) This quote by
Walt Disney himself just shows how he felt his values were in good thought. But the problem is
his movies didn t always portray these values. Many of the Disney Classics that our generation has
grown to know and love have exposed children to many bad values. Classics such as: Snow White
and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, The Little
Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Pocahontas display lessons not suitable for

The crows in the movie Dumbo, furthermore, show racism. The blackbirds act in a manner
stereotypically assigned to Africans. (Joseph) The Lion King, Disney s most well known,
loved, and adored Classic, is racist. The members of the royal family speak with posh British
accents while the hyenas speak with a mixture of decidedly urban, black and Latino youth and
the other animals in the kingdom don t even talk. Coming to Aladdin, the song Arabian Nights is
the most insulting out of them all. The original lyrics state: Oh I come from a land From a far
away place Where the caravan camels roam. Where they cut off your ear If they don t like your
face. It s barbaric, but hey, it s home. Arab culture magnifies popular stereotypes already primed by
the media through its portrayal of the Gulf War. (Giroux)
Racism and subliminal messages seem petty to the fact that in today s world Disney seems to
still be sexist against women. In the movie Sleeping Beauty, Aurora, being already born into the
royal family, was bestowed with the gift of beauty. She is described as lips as red as the red red
rose . She is the typical girl that everyone wants: fair skin, blue eyes, long blonde hair, and an
impossibly thin figure. Aurora is given a curse and can only be woken up by true love s first kiss
. Of course she is saved right before she could literally die. In present terms this event demonstrates
the fact that women will die if they never

Character Analysis Of Vertigo
Recently, Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo replaced Citizen Kane as Sight Sound s Greatest Film of All
Time. The movie includes all the essentials for a great film: strong, multi layered characters,
stunning performances from some of the greatest actors of the time, and a rich, exhilarating plot
filled with suspense and twists. The movie s brilliance is unmistakable, and throughout the years it
has been the inspiration for many other movies, such as the 1976 filmObsession. Vertigo follows
acrophobic ex detective John Ferguson who takes on a new job to follow his old friend Gavin s
wife, Madeleine. Madeleine is acting strange, and Gavin believes she may even be possessed.
As John grows close to Madeleine, the two fall desperately in love. Unfortunately, Madeleine s
bizarre behavior gets the best of her, and she throws herself out of a church tower and falls to her
death. Shortly after, John meets a woman named Judy who looks unmistakably like Madeleine.
John s character takes a dark turn when he spirals into obsession with Judy and her image. Later
in the movie, it is revealed that Judy actually is Madeleine, and she faked her own death. If I had
a problem with Vertigo, it would be that this is revealed too soon. Judy barely has any screen time
before this revelation, making it rather unsurprising as we are not quite attached to her character.
But while I decided to put this minor detail aside, someone else felt compelled to make an entire

There are two kinds of virtues: moral and intellectual. Intellectual virtues are learned by experience
and time, whereas moral virtues are learned by habits and practice. Virtues are not given to us at

paragraphs, Aristotleemphasizes how pleasure and pain play an important role in how our moral
virtues are developed. To explain he uses an example of a glutton and a temperate person and the
pleasure/pain of food. Then he talks about how many people could be just but that doesn t
necessarily mean that they are virtuous. He proceeds to talk about his three criteria to determine if

War Is Kind Irony
Comparative Essay on Stephen Crane s Use of Irony in War is Kind and A Mystery of Heroism
If you ask a group of people how they feel about war, you re likely to get quite a few different
responses. While some think war is the only way to settle our issues, others believe it is just
another way to start them. People go into wars looking for change but the change they get isn t
always the change they were searching for. Stephen Crane uses irony in Waris Kind and A Mystery
of Heroism to prove he is opposed to war by sarcastically pointing out the negative aspects of it
and the feelings that surround them. In the poem War is Kind the author uses sarcasm and irony
to point out the negative aspects of war while still reaching out to the people that support it. He
points out how people are all supposed to think of death in the war as a normality by saying
Make plain to them the excellence of killing, and a field where a thousand corpses lie . He
describes the violence and death of the war while always resorting back to calling it kind, because
that s what everyone perceives it as. The author makes it seem as though right when men are born
they are immediately brought up to fight for our country by saying, Little souls who thirst for fight,

Native American Role In Ww2 Case Study
Throughout the history of the United States, the Native American community as a whole has
always been nothing but a resource to use according the needs of the U.S. government. In fact,
this governmental point of view starts with Jefferson s executive order to stop the extermination,
in order to have cheap manpower to work the crops , to present day Trump s constant conflict
with Native American nations, in pursuance of creating a political tool to demonstrate power .
However, the Native American s role in World War II is one of the most overlooked events in U.S.
history. Actually, this case illustrates the government s use of the Native American community as a
material resource in a detailed and contrasting manner. The U.S campaign to dominate the Asian
Pacific coast, during World War II would have taken an entirely different course if it had not been
for the participation of the Navajo Code talkers. The Navajo facilitated the radio transmissions
between the U.S commands in battle. One example of their vital importance, was the Saipan
incident where Navajo radio transmission was necessary to stop the mistaken bombardment of U.S
marines over their own commands. A further example, was their participation in the battle of Iwo

The United States Army Officer And Private Security...
Quelling Fear
Cyril Richard Rick Rescorla was a United States Army officer and private security officer
originally from the United Kingdom who served in Northern Rhodesia and as a commissioned
officer in the Vietnam War, where he was a second lieutenant in the United States Army. After the
1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, Rescorla began to worry about a
terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. When Rescorla asked Daniel Hill, a friend from
Rhodesia that was trained in counter terrorism measures, how he would attack the building were
he a terrorist, Hill asked to see the basement. The two walked down to the basement parking
garage without being stopped by any visible security, Hill pointed to an easily accessible load
bearing column, explaining how easy it would be for an attack to be carried out in a similar
manner. That year, Rescorla and Hill wrote a report to the Port Authority of New York and New
Jersey, which owns the site, insisting on the need for more security in the parking garage. Their
recommendations, which would have been expensive to implement, were ignored (Stewart, 2002).
Following the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, Rescorla invited Hill to New York, where he

Don t we all remember that famous advertisement by a tyre company where a couple enjoying a

The principle downfall to life is that it will unfailingly conclude in death. In The Death of the
Moth, Virginia Woolf presents the struggle with mortality and the overall acceptance that death
cannot be beaten. Using similes, metaphors, and personification to express the experience she has
with a moth, Woolf is able to take a trivial occurrence and fill it with significance. Woolf
encounters a moth flying near a window. While observing the moth, she compares it to a tiny bead
of pure life because of its dancing and zigzagging, showing the ability the moth has to exemplify the
liveliness of existence. Rather than declaring characteristics of the moth, Woolf states they are not
gay like butterflies and not somber like their own species. She defines moths traits unjoyful and
unable to fit into even their own kinds by contrasting it to other insects. As Woolf continues to...

First, the moth is content with life a feeling the reader may share with the moth. Woolf states that
the moth enthusiastically appreciates meager opportunities to the full. The enjoyment of such
measly opportunities displays the moth s primitive, naГЇve nature. This nature follows the moth all
of the way until the end; the moth gives into death because it knows it s weaker. During the last
minutes of the moth s life, Woolf searches for the enemy against which he [struggles]. There is no
actual enemy present; death is personified as the enemy. The moth s body [relaxes], and instantly
[grows] stiff and it [lays] most decently and uncomplainingly composed, showing the moth s
acceptance of its impermanent life. Moths do not have the advanced sense to feel the sensation to
appreciate opportunities or to make the decision to succumb to death. Woolf provides the moth with
these human qualities to make the moth significant enough for the reader to relate

featuring dancers dressed as dragons.
Jamaicans celebrate their independence on August sixth. For several weeks beforehand, they stage

national pride and tradition.
Jonkanoo (John Canoe) is a dancing procession held around Christmas time. The origins of this

extravagant costumes dance to the music of drums and cane flutes.

Han Dynasty Essay
The Han Dynasty, the second imperial dynasty of Ancient China, was prosperous and innovative.
The scientific development was extremely advanced for the time, and inventions such as the
seismometer, sundial, and wheelbarrow greatly improved Ancient Chinese life (Cartwright
Achievements , 2017). However, perhaps the most important invention of the Han Dynastywas
paper. Paper affected countless areas of Ancient Chinese life by transforming the way information
and art were recorded, consumed, and stored.
While the origins of paper are unknown, its predecessors were flawed and in need of a
replacement. The invention of paper is attributed to Cai Lun, a Han government worker, who
created the first true paper in AD 105 (Greenling 2017, 51). However,... Show more content on

Former Encyclopædia Britannica editor Kenneth Pletcher described the record keeping of the Han
administration, Han administration required detailed record keeping, which generated a
proliferation of documents. Official returns were sometimes kept in duplicate, and each agency
kept running files to record its business (Pletcher 2010, 79). Bulky bamboo or expensive silk
were impractical for this kind of meticulous record keeping, but official documents were recorded
and stored easily because of the invention of paper. The Han government had also taken an interest
in literary accomplishment and scholastic competence for the Ancient Chinese people, likely as a
result of the invention of paper (Pletcher 2010, 79). Alexander Monro wrote about how the books
of Han Dynasty became the guiding stars of Chinese education, governance, and philosophy (Monro
2016, 44). The four classic texts, the Shijing, the Shujing, the Yijing, and the Chunqiu, were of such
extreme importance to the Han government that in order to make an argument before the throne, a
statesman would [have to] find a relevant quotation from these works (Pletcher 2010, 79). The four
texts were also probably carved into stone and copied by using the stone rubbing method as
mentioned before, giving the general public access to

Early-Life Disadvantages
The literature on environmental factors and their effect on health and life expectancy is
extensive. Studies of mortality have found that childhood health and socioeconomic context are
important predictors, often regardless of adult experiences (Motez and Hayward 2014). One
study examines whether early life disadvantages both shorten lives and increase the number of
years lived with functional impairment (Motez and Hayward 2014). These early life
disadvantages could be health, socio economic, or environmental related. Within levels of
educational accomplishment, adults from underprivileged childhoods lived fewer years, and
spent a greater portion of life impaired compared with adults from advantaged childhoods (Motez
and Hayward 2014). Higher levels of education did not improve the health consequences of
disadvantaged childhoods. However, because education had a better impact on health than
childhood socioeconomic setting, adults from disadvantaged childhoods who achieved high
education levels often had a length of life that was similar to those from privileged childhoods
who achieved low education levels. (Motez and Hayward 2014). Recent research has identified a
trend that supports the research of Motez and Hayward. Historically, there has been a penalty
associated with urban places, also known as the rural mortality penalty (James 2014). However, in
recent decades, a reversal has occurred (James 2014). Beginning in the mid 1980s, rural and urban
mortality rates

Analysis Of James Joyce s Araby
Illusion is an anodyne, bred by the gap between wish and reality said by Herman Wouk. Many
times in life, people set unrealistic expectations for themselves or for other people. This is not a
very wise thing to do because people often feel disappointed and embarrassed for getting their
hopes up so high. In James Joyces short story Araby he uses the voice of a young boyas a narrator
and describes his childhood growing up in Dublin. Joyce concentrates on description of character
s feeling rather than on plot to reveal the ironies inherent in self deception. The story focuses on
the disappointment, and enlightenment of the young boy and the gap between ideality and reality
which I believe it is a retrospective of Joyce s look back at life.
On the simplest level, Araby is a story about a young boy s first love and his quest for the ideal. He
has a crush on his friend s sister and his quest to fulfill a promise he made to her. The promise
that is made is that he will bring her a present from Araby, a bazaar. He is granted permission
from his uncle; however his uncle comes home late on the day of the bazaar making it hard for
the boy to get to Araby before it close. When he finally arrives he discovers it is too late to buy
anything. Thus, the quest ends in failure. On the deeper level, the failure results in an inner
awareness and a first step into adult world. The protagonist faces up the harsh reality for which his
precious experience has not prepared for him. The

Story Of An Hour And Strong Independent Woman
Kate Chopin s dramatic short story Story of an Hour demonstrates to the reader a woman s inner
struggle of the contrasting emotions after the death of her husband. Mrs. Mallard becomes aware
of the death of her husband and is stricken with grief. The grief is short lived after she is
overcome of the awareness of her happiness of finally achieving independence. Finally, her grief
and happiness come to a head and the contrasting emotions cost Mrs. Mallard her life. The poem
Strong Independent Womanillustrates the same need for women independence that Mrs. Mallard
faces. The poem and the short storyboth express the need for women to have independence for
themselves and to achieve their own happiness.
The story is introduced with the news of Mrs. Mallard s heart trouble and the dilemma of breaking
the news of the death of her husband to her gently without risking her any damage to her heart.
Mrs. Mallard s sister and the close friend of her deceased husband both try to think of a way to

to say I am ok and find happiness within independence is a mirror image to Mrs. Mallard after
the death of her husband, Brently Mallard. Mrs. Mallard is done swimming in the pool of pains
and has composed herself and eliminated her grief. Even though her grief was short lived it still
did not derail her from the path to her own independence. Despite her stumbles Mrs. Mallard has

The s Defense Of Icons
In Defense of Icons
Throughout history The Church and a number of Christians including myself have found
themselves defending their use of icons against the views of individuals who felt that the icons
were a form of idolatry. These individuals also know as Iconoclasts have a staunch position against
the use of icons. Their position is based on interpretation of the Old Testamentlaw stated in Exodus
20:4 You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens
or on the earth or in the sea . Is this truly contrary to the Old Testament law or is it simply
preserving through time the incarnation of Christ, the Gospels and the history of the Christian
church? I will give you a brief history, and then offer my personal opinion to the subject. Let s
define what is an icon and give a brief history of icons. An icon is sacred art, usually a fresco or
mosaic of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, martyred Saints or scenes from the bible that are given
special veneration. This type of sacred art first appeared in the catacombs were the first Christians
would gather to worship during periods of persecution. The scenes depicted were of Christ s
family, gospel stories or stories from the Hebrew scriptures. As Christianitybegan to grow, and
after the Edict of Milan the Emperor Constantine decreed that Christians were no longer to be
persecuted. In response to this new decree, by the fourth century icons became a way of teaching
the Gospel and a way to

Women s Role Models And Become Leaders
There are legion women who serve as role models and become leaders. Women are survivors with
unique inner strength who pose to achieve it all without complaining. Likewise, the women are
mounting the leadership ladder in the male dominated industries related to Finance, Federal
Departments and Technology. In the United States, women synthesize a majority of the population
earning higher college degrees as compared to men, yet holding only 19.2% top executive
positions in the corporate world according to Forbes. There prevails bit evidence that a status of
women in the workplace has improved in recent years and the gap between salaries has begun to
lessen. Majority companies are enthusiastically adapting the concept of increasing number of...

Women entered the labor force during the 1960 s and tend to stay longer in the workforce before
having a family. When it comes to uniformity and rationality, women are still suppressed. Our
society stereotypes that women are meant to be working under men. Barriers to leadership
opportunities are a worldwide phenomenon where females are disproportionately engrossed in a
lower level and curtailed authoritative leadership positions. The leadership opportunities for
women in corporate America do not correlate with their population rate. In the United States, they
form the largest population, which subsist 50.8% and earning 60% of all master s degrees. Even
earning higher degrees, they are only at 19.2% in corporate field reached C level. Consequently,
they are still a minority in the executive world. Nevertheless, the numbers are growing in the
positive direction. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Says the First Lady
Eleanor Roosevelt.
According to Catalyst survey, women possess enhanced skill sets than men; they are still a
meager number in the corporate America. Why? The Glass ceiling and Glass cliff are the reasons
why. According to Harvard Business School research, The Glass ceiling is a barrier, so subtle that
it remains transparent, yet so strong that it prevents women from moving up the corporate
hierarchy. On the other hand, the glass cliff describes the phenomenon of women in leadership
roles such as C level, being more likely

  • 4. Investigating Concepts Of A Digital Device Essay The purpose of this assessment is to investigate concepts relating to a system that is used within a digital device. For my assessment, I chose the A5158 model MP3 player that belongs to my dad. The features of this device include: High Contrast LCD Display, Resolution 96 x 32 Integrated Flash Memory Plays MP3 and WMA Digital Music Files FM Radio 4GB Stores up to 1000 songs USB 2.0 Hi Speed for fast file transfers Key lock preventing accidental key presses Integrated 100mAh Lithium rechargeable battery for up to 5 hours playback Data Representation In computer terms, a bit is a numeric value either a zero or a one that holds a single unit of digital information. Bits are usually strung together in a sequence eight bits normally equals one byte. Bits are used to write binary numbers, which can be used to store decimal numbers such as 244 or 93 as patterns of ones and zeroes. ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange is a computer code that was developed to allow computers to convert human text into bits that computers could understand. In ASCII code, for example, the letter A is 65 a number that can then be converted into the binary value 1000001. In the 1960 s, the 7 bit ASCII table was first adopted. Within a 7 bit number, 128 different characters can be stored English letters from A Z (upper and lower case), numeric digits from 0 9 and special characters such as !/*+. The eighth bit was used to detect transmission errors. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Stress In The Baboons This episode features Stanford University s Neurobiologist, Robert Sapolsky, who has a high understanding of stress and how it affects our not just our health, but our bodies. The main point Robert is conveying to the audience states that stress leads to serious health consequences, such as high blood pressure, weakened immune system, fatigue, development of fat and even the shortening of life expectancy. Robert Sapolsky researches the science behind human stress by exploring non human primates, the baboons in their natural habitat in Kenya, Africa. After thirty years of research, Sapolsky believes that baboons are apparently the perfect source of exemplifying human stress because they are naturally aggressive toward one another, including their offspring, and the pain and stress factors appear to be the same in humans; especially dealing with stressful jobs and verbally abusive bosses. In the baboon s case, if you are a full controlled male, you can expect lower stress levels, and if you are the submissive, abused baboon, the stress level can be much higher. The only way Robert can take a look at the serious health consequences related to human stress in the baboon is by taking the unsuspecting submissive monkey s blood and examining the stress hormones in the lab. The results of a submissive baboon revealed high blood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Summary Of The Impossibly Great Commission Better you than me. The words have stuck to the front of my mind for weeks. After preaching a message at a friend s church in my hometown, these were the only words one particular stranger said to me. That is, these are the only words he said to me before giving me a pat on the back and handing me a crumbled up ball of cash (both of these gestures were received completely unsolicited). The sermon I delivered that morning was titled The Impossibly Great Commission . Looking back now, I could have probably worded that better, but the message was clear, we are purpose for a reason and we cannot achieve that purpose in our own strength. More simply put, We need Jesus. Now fast forward one or two months to the present when I set foot for the first time on foreign soil. Here multiple strangers with hugs and celebration greeted me. Their first words to me? My home is your home, follow me. I am now serving as a missionary to Central America. The people here are rich with love and humility. Every person I have met has been exceedingly kind to me. Some children run to me to tell me their favorite Bible verses in English, the teens invite me to play sports with them, and everyone insists on having me over for a delicious meal. Christ gave us the commission to go and make disciples of all nations, so for now this is where He has me. Hopefully the short account I gave of the people here in this culture made clear that I am very thankful for the opportunity to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Affects Of Climate Change On Marine Mammals Effects of climate change on marine mammals Introduction Climate change is the change in distribution of weather patterns usually after an extended period. Climate change is caused by factors such as variation in solar radiation, biotic processes, volcanic eruptions and plate tectonic oceans are known to be affected by climate. Marine mammals are very sensitive to changes in the ocean environment. It is anticipated that climate change effects on marine mammals mediated majorly by changes in prey distribution and abundance and the adaptable species may be able to respond to this changes to some extent. Observations made during the previous years on marine mammals show that certain species maybe vulnerable than others this may include those with limited habitat such as narwhals. Reviews provided by top organization, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change indicate that climate change is likely to induce changes in temperatures and adjustment associated with ocean circulation, sea level, and ice coverage. Impact of climate change on marine mammals occur differently according to type of mammal and its dwelling place either deep sea dweller or surface sea dwellers (Aguirre, Ostfeld, Daszak, 2012). Marine species distribution is affected by multiple factors; ecological, habitat related and anthropogenic factors. Habitat distributed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Perpetual Peace Kant Eu The EU represents Kant s idea of a federation of states in perpetual of peace in many of the more overarching ways, it must be noted that it is not a perfect fit. Before diving into the support of this claim, it is important to realize what the European Union is so to fully understand what it could represent. The EU is a political and economic union, hoping to facilitate free movement in terms of trading, with the intent of building peaceful relationships and increasing economic growth. Perhaps the biggest reason the EU was created was to increase peace throughout Europeand hopefully take away the possibility of another World War. The EU would not function without the consensus between countries for a goal of perpetual peace. The economic goals of the EU, while not totally representative of Kant s views, are not surprisingly in our ever globalizing and growing capitalist world. Although Kant s essay on perpetual peace was written in 1795, parts of it are eerily predictive and representative of the EU today. This can mainly been seen in his proposition of a peace program between multiple nations, exactly what the EU has become. Kant focuses on the possibility of perpetual peace instead of going to war any time there is a conflict. He emphasizes the importance on connected nation states that do not interfere with each other s governments or constitutions and to end the imperialism of one nation dominating another. The EU represents this because it was made with the intent of perpetuating peace throughout their continent, desperate for this stability after the horrors of WWII. The EU is connected through treaties and common ideas, respecting each nation within the union. Kant focuses on the idea of nations independently connecting themselves to each other for the goal of peace and therefore a heightened society. It is clear that the EU was trying to do this, and they were able to accomplish it. Kant also brings up the idea of free travel between the connected nations, something that is very prevalent in the EU ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Always the Lowest Price at Wal-Mart Essay Always the Lowest Price at Wal Mart Over the past 20 years, the nature of the American retailing market has changed dramatically, going from Mom and Pop s boutiques to mega retail stores like Wal Mart. Especially in the last decade, Sam Walton s discount stores have proliferated in almost every city across the United States and Canada. But the opinions about the effects of Wal Mart in small towns divide the rural population in two groups. Through economic, cultural and social arguments, the anti Wal Mart activists and the advocates defend their point of view about the expansion of the store in small communities. The tranquil and friendly way of life in small communities is threatened by the urban one stop shopping culture of the giant. The population in regions does not want a store where the atmosphere is cold and artificial. In essence, the anti Wal Mart activists want to stop the store from establishing itself in rural communities because they believe that it would destroy their economic and cultural identity. On the opposite side, the population in favour of Wal Mart thinks that the creation of new stores in rural regions stimulates the economy and that the local businesses are responsible for the problems faced on Main Street because they are not adapted to the modern retailing market. First of all, the opening of a mega discount store in a region attracts people from other small towns. This affluence of customers is beneficial to the local businesses that sell complementary products near the Wal Mart. The advocates of the store also affirm that the company creates jobs. But if local merchants want to benefit from Wal Mart, they have to evolve with the market and change their way of doing things. As said by Jo Ann Johnston, adaptation is the key element: ``People are beginning to realize that small town merchants need to adapt to changes in their communities, the economy, and their industries instead of chastising an outside company`` (1995, p.222). Humans have been innovators, from the first shapers of stone and wood into crude implements, to the inventors of electronic gadgets that entertain us and help us manage our lives from our shirt pockets. People fear the unknown Гі especially when they believe that it could adversely affect their health or established social systems. The triangle of technology, innovation, and society is one of the central spheres of modern activities. Successful innovation frequently is not only the result of scientific technical progress. • 12. The Wrong Direction Religion has convinced modern society to not only consider humanity s well being: what God wants and our place in either Heaven or Hell in the afterlife (Sutter). Religion, even though there are billions of followers, is based solely on what just a few important religious characters have said. For instance, Islamwas started by a man named Mohammed, who communicated with Godand became a prophet. Nobody saw him or the angel which visited Mohammed at this time, however, when Mohammed came down from the mountain where he was praying, and began to spread the message, people who had previously been polytheists converted to Mohammed s new religion: Islam. Over the course of Mohammed s life, as depicted in the movie The Message , many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second purpose of religion is to instill hope, such as the concept of an afterlife. When a Christian dies, others will believe that they will be able to see each other again when they die, based on the concept that there is a Heaven, where all Christians go (given they prayed for forgiveness and didn t commit any high level crimes, such as murder). However, if that person disobeyed the Christian rules, that person will go to Hell, an eternal damnation. This specific element of religion is one of the main reasons for joining a religion the hope of Heaven for Christians, and similar environments in other religions. However, this isn t the only way the hope of religion is used. When a religious individual prays, many times they will ask a favor of God, such as Please God, let me get an A on this paper , or Please God, help me lose weight . This is where I personally begin to have problems rather than focusing on achieving something personally, such as studying and working hard on a paper, or going to the gym every day to lose weight, prayer is commonly used as a vehicle to hope that something will come true with virtually no work put in. Another example of this hope is if one has a headache and prays to God it will go away, there will be two outcomes: it goes away naturally, then God is celebrated by the individual as their savior, or the headache persists and the individual believes that God is simply testing one s faith. Despite the film breaking most of today s filmmaking rules, it is considered as one film that will keep the audience glued on the screen. The film cited its origin from James Elroy s nearly impossible to film cult novel. The film raises stars with three main characters. The film embroils the three characters in a vigorously surprising tale, which puts them in a clichГ© free true mystery. The movie brings out the true mystery rather that the thriller revealing all the endless complications. L.A. Confidential comes out with a full expanse of 1950s Los Angeles, a film noir paradise of knee weakening glamor and smoldering evilly blended together with little dirty secret. The main theme the film focuses on is the form of corruption that has deep roots in the town. Wish fulfilling whores, drugs, mobsters and brutally racist cops resemble the movie stars. The actors all have the ambition of dragging the movie to the gutter; the films reach its best in terms of achievement. • 14. Lord Of The Flies Civilization Analysis Within any civilization, there are multiple key components required in order to create a functioning society. As explained through Lord of the Flies by William Golding, these pivotal building blocks of a civilization can play a great part into bringing a group of people to society, or drag them all down into savagery. The conch shell is an excellent example of political legitimacy and democratic power. Although, while this device can be used for good; providing others with order and sanity, it can also be used for the utter destruction of a civilization. The conch shell in Lord of the Flies by William Goldingbegins as civilization and order, becomes the fragility of power and influence, and concludes with the collapse of any civilized thoughts. Civilization and order can be found within every society, and this is no exception within the group of boys in the beginning of the novel. Throughout the exposition of the story, governance over the group of boys was unknown. No order was established to influence the boys to cooperate and fulfill the needed tasks to get off the island. Although, there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance...yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart (Golding 22). Essay on Infinite Surds | INFINITE SURDS | Ria Garg| | The purpose of my investigation is to find the general statement that represents all values of k in an infinite surd for which the expression is an integer. I was able to achieve this goal through the process of going through various infinite surds and trying to find a relationship between each sequence. In the beginning stages of my investigation I came across the sequence of `a1= 1+1 a2= 1+1+1 a3 = 1+1+1+1 While looking at the sequence I came to the realization that there is a very obvious pattern between each n value. I think we live in a world where it is more important to form a socially acceptable image rather than being your true self, under all these hats we all just the same, made out flesh and blood. The absurdity of the hysterical laugh is also a huge element in the painting, laughing at the reality, mocking the ... It (Realism) demonstrates the hardships and problems people undergo in order to be able to achieve moral success and mental peace. Naturalism depicts the similar ideals as realismin portraying a situation in a more negative and detached tone (literarydevices.net). The ideas are mostly focused on the character being more human and more prone to making mistakes and going through struggles that may seem hard to overcome, but in the end may teach something. Even though his family tried to make him see that what he did was bad and considered backstabbing , he chose not to change and continued being selfish, greedy and ambitious. Later on, the man s biggest success came when he had a situation where he had to choose between bankruptcy and not changing his personality and treatment towards others; as well as overcoming his ambition and love towards money and prosperity. This downturn in his life impacted him in a way that made him realize that all those crooked deals and crimes he did were unjust; which later on led for him to become bankrupt and poor (by his own choice). Although he was not wealthy anymore, he gained a lot much more; he gained morality, spiritual peace, family, friends, and most of all his true destiny. Naturalism, on the other hand, is demonstrated in the novel written by Jack London titled To Build a Fire which sets play on a snowy freezing cold mountain. The protagonist is a man who is trying to get to a campground under harsh weather in order to deliver warm bread . Despite him having prior knowledge of the dangers of traveling under harsh cold climate below 0 degrees, and the warning from another person, he continued to walk down the icy road. Despite him being smart and observing, he fails to take the cold seriously since deep inside he believes that the cold, harsh, and freezing weather can not kill a man. After realizing that he couldn t feel his hands or fingers, he decided to gather wood in order to make a fire big enough for him and his dog. In the end when he achieves to make a fire, outside forces (avalanche) put out his fire and has no choice to build another one. When he began to gather wood, he notices that he is not ... • 19. A Research Study On Drug Testing When Pharmaceutical companies are trying to develop a new drug they begin the process of a clinical trial. A clinical trial in drug testing is when researchers test a new drug on live participants and record information such as side effects and results. Recently, pharmaceutical companies are trying to increase their profits so they have been outsourcing. Outsourcing is when clinical trials go to a clinical researchorganization (CRO), which are big businesses. One crucial step in a clinical trial is informed consent. The participants must know they are part of a research study, the possible risks, and outcomes. This information should be presented in a manor in which the individual can understand. However, after watching the videos this crucial step is sometimes overlooked or not taken seriously during overseas drug testing. Often times testing is done overseas in areas that are over populated and have a large gap between the wealthy and the poor. When researchers are conducting the trial they have been known to just completely skip over this step or they give individuals the information on the clinical trial but the participants are illiterate and unable to understand any part of it. This is seen as unethical practice. Ethically, all participants are required to know they are part of a clinical trial and they need to know all risks and outcomes projected before participating. Gender Roles In Chrysanthemums The short story Chrysanthemums, written by John Steinbeck in 1938, portrays the conformity to societal gender roles of females throughout most of the nineteenth century. Many women in the 1930s were entering the workforce where they were faced with lower wages and harsh working conditions. Married women at the time often faced more hostility in the workplace, due to the fact that they highlighted the image of women taking away men s jobs, and the fact that a womans place is in the home taking care of their children. While women were able to work, stereotypical societal roles continued to shape the way women lived inside and outside of the workplace. Speech On Our Road Sense Don t we all remember that famous advertisement by a tyre company where a couple enjoying a late night ride on their bike are almost rammed into by a car which takes a wrong turn and they are saved just in time because of the superior tyres? Or the one where a careless guy with a baby in a pram is talking over the mobile phone while he crosses the roadand is almost run over a biker but for his good brakes and tyres? And to top it all, the one with the pram swears at the biker instead of apologizing and owning up his fault! I could cite a whole book full of such scenarios that aptly describe India s road sense. The street are indeed filled with idiots, be it out of lack of civic sense or otherwise. And what s even more annoying is the fact that we tend not to care much about it and take it all in stride as something very normal. It is said that just knowing what is wrong lays the foundation of the future right (if any). Here is a compilation of the sad state of our road sense (remember, brevity is a virtue which really tested me here, trying to come up with as few examples as I could, given our inconspicuous road sense). • 41. How Does Woolf Present Death In The Death Of The Moth The principle downfall to life is that it will unfailingly conclude in death. In The Death of the Moth, Virginia Woolf presents the struggle with mortality and the overall acceptance that death cannot be beaten. Using similes, metaphors, and personification to express the experience she has with a moth, Woolf is able to take a trivial occurrence and fill it with significance. Woolf encounters a moth flying near a window. While observing the moth, she compares it to a tiny bead of pure life because of its dancing and zigzagging, showing the ability the moth has to exemplify the liveliness of existence. Rather than declaring characteristics of the moth, Woolf states they are not gay like butterflies and not somber like their own species. She defines moths traits unjoyful and unable to fit into even their own kinds by contrasting it to other insects. As Woolf continues to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scientific development was extremely advanced for the time, and inventions such as the seismometer, sundial, and wheelbarrow greatly improved Ancient Chinese life (Cartwright Achievements , 2017). However, perhaps the most important invention of the Han Dynastywas paper. Paper affected countless areas of Ancient Chinese life by transforming the way information and art were recorded, consumed, and stored. While the origins of paper are unknown, its predecessors were flawed and in need of a replacement. The invention of paper is attributed to Cai Lun, a Han government worker, who created the first true paper in AD 105 (Greenling 2017, 51). However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Former EncyclopГ¦dia Britannica editor Kenneth Pletcher described the record keeping of the Han administration, Han administration required detailed record keeping, which generated a proliferation of documents. Official returns were sometimes kept in duplicate, and each agency kept running files to record its business (Pletcher 2010, 79). Bulky bamboo or expensive silk were impractical for this kind of meticulous record keeping, but official documents were recorded and stored easily because of the invention of paper. The Han government had also taken an interest in literary accomplishment and scholastic competence for the Ancient Chinese people, likely as a result of the invention of paper (Pletcher 2010, 79). Alexander Monro wrote about how the books of Han Dynasty became the guiding stars of Chinese education, governance, and philosophy (Monro 2016, 44). The four classic texts, the Shijing, the Shujing, the Yijing, and the Chunqiu, were of such extreme importance to the Han government that in order to make an argument before the throne, a statesman would [have to] find a relevant quotation from these works (Pletcher 2010, 79). • 45. Early-Life Disadvantages The literature on environmental factors and their effect on health and life expectancy is extensive. Studies of mortality have found that childhood health and socioeconomic context are important predictors, often regardless of adult experiences (Motez and Hayward 2014). One study examines whether early life disadvantages both shorten lives and increase the number of years lived with functional impairment (Motez and Hayward 2014). These early life disadvantages could be health, socio economic, or environmental related. Within levels of educational accomplishment, adults from underprivileged childhoods lived fewer years, and spent a greater portion of life impaired compared with adults from advantaged childhoods (Motez and Hayward 2014). Higher levels of education did not improve the health consequences of disadvantaged childhoods. However, because education had a better impact on health than childhood socioeconomic setting, adults from disadvantaged childhoods who achieved high education levels often had a length of life that was similar to those from privileged childhoods who achieved low education levels. (Motez and Hayward 2014). Recent research has identified a trend that supports the research of Motez and Hayward. Historically, there has been a penalty associated with urban places, also known as the rural mortality penalty (James 2014). However, in recent decades, a reversal has occurred (James 2014). • 47. Analysis Of James Joyce s Araby Illusion is an anodyne, bred by the gap between wish and reality said by Herman Wouk. Many times in life, people set unrealistic expectations for themselves or for other people. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. In James Joyces short story Araby he uses the voice of a young boyas a narrator and describes his childhood growing up in Dublin. Joyce concentrates on description of character s feeling rather than on plot to reveal the ironies inherent in self deception. The story focuses on the disappointment, and enlightenment of the young boy and the gap between ideality and reality which I believe it is a retrospective of Joyce s look back at life. On the simplest level, Araby is a story about a young boy s first love and his quest for the ideal. He has a crush on his friend s sister and his quest to fulfill a promise he made to her. The promise that is made is that he will bring her a present from Araby, a bazaar. He is granted permission from his uncle; however his uncle comes home late on the day of the bazaar making it hard for the boy to get to Araby before it close. When he finally arrives he discovers it is too late to buy anything. Thus, the quest ends in failure. On the deeper level, the failure results in an inner awareness and a first step into adult world. The protagonist faces up the harsh reality for which his precious experience has not prepared for him. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their position is based on interpretation of the Old Testamentlaw stated in Exodus 20:4 You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea . Is this truly contrary to the Old Testament law or is it simply preserving through time the incarnation of Christ, the Gospels and the history of the Christian church? An icon is sacred art, usually a fresco or mosaic of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, martyred Saints or scenes from the bible that are given special veneration. This type of sacred art first appeared in the catacombs were the first Christians would gather to worship during periods of persecution. The scenes depicted were of Christ s family, gospel stories or stories from the Hebrew scriptures.
