3. What is water?
Water has three states of matter liquid, solid and gas. There are many types of
water; treated, untreated, sewage, natural, swampy, salt, snow and rivers/lakes. We
need water to survive but it’s not just us, its various living things on planet earth.
Plants, animals etc.
The water cycle. It doesn’t have a starting point nor an ending as it is endless. First it
will rain and then it goes out to streams, ponds etc. Then it goes out to sea
eventually the sun evaporates it and it goes to the clouds and gets rained out again.
It’s endless.
Our use of water is appalling. We should be conserving it as we are over populating
and won’t have enough water. If we keep using it stupidly then we will all die.
The future of water all depends on the human race, if we keep using water the way
we do now we will all eventually die. If we all die there will be no humans left in the
world.
4. Introduction
This report is about Arctic foxes and their habitat. I have chosen to do this for my
report as it will be a great learning experience. This report is mainly based in the
northern hemisphere.
Ice in the Arctic is 3 km thick. That is 120 lengths of Huia Pool. The Arctic is a polar
cap in the northern hemisphere and the opposite is is the southern hemisphere. The
Arctic is a frozen wasteland at the top of the world also known as the North Pole. The
Antarctica is also a frozen wasteland. There are plenty of animals in the frozen
wastelands.
5. Arctic
Ice doesn’t stay in one place. It will form into a cliff and fall off in the water. Then it
will get taken away by the current. The ocean is a liquid so it is constantly moving
with the wind and the oceans currents, so when the ice falls in it will go with the
water. Within a few years our ocean will be huge, as the ice melts as it gradually flats
to warmer water.
In the Arctic there are many types of animals such as polar bears, arctic foxes, seals
etc. These animals have their own special way of surviving in these harsh climates
and weather.
Polar bears the world’s largest biggest bears. They are often feared by many animals
and humans. They eat seals, fish and birds. They have a coat of fat underneath their
thick layer of fur. Polar bears are huge; they are twice the size of an average human
being. They have a large white fur coat to blend in to the landscape and to keep
themselves warm.
Penguins are cute animals with a fun loving nature. They are very fast swimmers and
are very fast skaters on land as well. They are usually black with a white stomach and
under flippers. They love to eat fish as this is their main food. They are very playful
animals who love the company of humans besides penguins.
No human would be able to survive in the Arctic without many layers of jackets. If we
didn’t we would freeze and then die of hyperthermia. We have got many stations
placed in both the Antarctica and Arctic; we use these mainly for research on the
animals there and for the study of the northern stars.
6. Arctic foxes
Imagine a cute white fluffy ball of fur, or just look at an arctic fox. Arctic foxes are
very adorable creatures who love to play. Arctic foxes ears are round and are
constantly facing forward, unless a predator is nearby. They can hear up to 2.14
miles away.
Arctic foxes have a specific diet. Their favourite food is called a lemming (small
rodent). They also eat small birds and eggs they find along the coastline. Arctic foxes
can smell their prey even when they are under the snow! When they kill their prey,
they jump up in the air (leaving their prey disorientated) and then they land on top of
the prey.
Arctic foxes change fur coats each season. During winter they have a beautiful fur
coat, yet in the summer they are an ugly brown colour. They change due to changing
temperature and to adapt to their surroundings. The main priority for this is that
they can adapt to the landscape making it easier to hunt.
Arctic foxes live nowhere as long as us. They have a lifespan of about 3-6 years. They
also mate for life. They have 5-6 puppies depending on their parents. They mate
early September to early May. Their puppies are called kits when first born.
7. What we can do to help
We are killing our planet, the least we can do is to start helping it. We all need to
stop wasting water. When we have a shower do not stay in too long and limit you to
one shower a day. Start recycling and reusing things because if we don’t we will not
have any resources left in a few years. We need to start thinking and instead of
talking about it. TAKE ACTION. Even something little like picking up rubbish can save
the world. Us wasting will soon not only affect us it will also affect animals as well;
this will result in no manure for trees, further resulting in no oxygen. So this is why
we need to help. Im taking action but the question is will you take action?
