What is water? The essential liquid for life
1. What is water?
Water is H2O that is 2 hydrogen atoms and 1oxygen atom.
Water has to states of matter ice which is solid, water which
is liquid and steam which is gas. There are many
classifications of water like salt water, fresh water, stagnant
water treated water etc. On earth 97% of water is salt water,
3% is fresh water, but only 1% of the earth’s water is
drinkable. Humans use and then waste water too much.
People use water like it’s an everlasting source but it’s not.
The earth’s fresh water is depleting. Humans can’t survive
without water. If we waste water there will be no water left
and we will die. But we aren’t the only thing that will die any
living thing will die.
3. Introduction
This report is about beavers and their habitat. I chose
Beavers because thought that they would be interesting to
research .Beavers are a large semi aquatic rodents. Beavers
are the second largest rodent in the world. The largest is the
South American Capybara. I discovered that the teeth are
what determine if it is a rodent or not. Rodent s teeth are
specialized for gnawing. There are two species of Beavers.
One is the Castor Canadensis native to North America. The
second is the Eurasian beaver Castor fiber. Did you know that
beavers are the second most environmentally adaptable
animal in the world, the first is humans.
4. Beavers Constructions
Beavers are known for engineering dams, canals and lodges.
The lodges are the beaver homes they care for their kits. Kits
are the baby beavers. The trees used to build the lodges are
gnawed down by the beavers.
Beavers make their lodges out of stick, rocks, logs and mud.
First they layer sticks and rocks to make the base. Then they
put bigger sticks and logs on top of that. Then they add layers
of sticks and mud as water proofing.
Beavers Life
Beavers have an average lifespan of 24 years. Once beavers
become mature they will find a mate. When beavers mate
they mate for life. When female beavers are pregnant they
wait sixteen weeks to have their kits.
Beavers are herbivores. That means that beavers only eat
vegetation like leaves and bushes. Although beavers are
herbivores they don’t eat leaves, they eat wood. During
winter it is often too cold for beavers to go out and find for
instead they have food stores close to their lodges.
5. Rivers
Rivers are a natural watercourse that flows towards an
ocean, lakes and bigger rivers. Smaller rivers can be also
known as streams, creeks, brooks, rivulet and rill. The world’s
longest river is the Nile in Egypt.
Rivers are part of a hydrological cycle. The hydrological cycle
is the technical term for water cycle. Rivers usually start as a
stream coming down from hills or mountains. They flow
downwards and gradually get bigger the further down the hill
it gets. But this isn’t always the
story, sometimes rivers start from
melting glaciers.
Extra-terrestrial water
There are no known extra-terrestrial rivers but there are
channels indicating that there were rivers in the past on
some planets. On mars there are out flow channels. There
have been large flows of hydrocarbon found on titan the
largest of Saturn’s moons. It has
been theorised that water exists on
planets and moons in the habitable
zone.
