Merchant of Venice Antonio
Bigoted and spiteful and well intentioned and loyal , which of these views best describes the character
of Antonio in your question. In Merchant of Venice , Antonio is the main character as he is the
merchant in the story in Venice. As Antonio is a Christian, he is quite anti Semitic and rude to
Shylock, making some people believe that he is spiteful and bigoted. However, most of the play
centers on him being the victim of the villain of the play, Shylock due to their bond they made. As
Antonio is willing to give everything for Bassanio without any payment and he strikes at any chance
to help Bassanio, I believe Shakespearian and modern audiences would believe him to be more of a
well intentioned and loyal friend. At the start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word dare shows his bravery in helping Bassanio, seeing as his first time bounding himself for
Bassanio turned out to be a life and death situation. This time, Antonio doesn t need Shylock or
anyone else s taunting to agree to a bond, but for the sake of Bassanio and Portia s happiness, he is
willing to put his soul upon the forfeit . He not only gives his life, he also gives his soul. This sounds
more religious and important than dying, so Antonio shows his most extreme means and greater
commitment in ensuring Bassanio s happiness. This strongly displays his well intentions behind his
actions. However, this also suggests that this bond will not end well, because in the first bond, Antonio
failed to return the money. All in all, Antonio is well intentioned and certainly very loyal towards
Bassanio, as he helps his friend as well as he can quite a few times and the only reason behind his
actions is their friendship, showing his benevolence. Even though Antonio is quite mean to Shylock,
showing anti semitism but overall, this main character is surely seen as a kind hearted and faithful
friend in audiences of all ages and

How Are Johannes Kepler Alike
Isaac Newton and Johannes Kepler are extremely influential to contemporary science. They are
responsible for countless scientific breakthroughs and discoveries, making them immensely relevant
today. Many of the simple tasks of everyday life rely on a basis of knowledge brought about by these
two men. Although they worked in the same general subject fields, they lived completely different
lives and made completely different discoveries. Newton was able to learn from the ideas of Kepler
and use that information to make his own breakthroughs. These two men have their similarities and
differences but worked towards a common goal of furthering scientific understanding of the world.
Johannes Kepler was an exceptionally accomplished man. He was ... Show more content on

For example, calculus is a very common course taught in schools. Much like Kepler s laws, Newton s
laws of motion are also taught in physics classes. If it weren t for these laws, there would not be any
basic understanding of the way objects move. Taking these laws into account, everything from
building large structures to making vehicles safer is made easier. Still used in modern calculations, the
newton is the main unit for the measurement of force. Named after Isaac Newton, this unit proves just
how influential he was to physics and understanding forces. If it weren t for Isaac Newton,
astronomers may not have such advanced telescopes. According to telescopenerd.com, Sir Isaac
Newton didn t use his telescope to find any new things in the universe but he did use it to radically
transform how we view the world we live in and the universe as a whole. His reflecting telescope was
the foundation of what later became highly advanced telescopes like the Hubble telescope. Almost
every aspect of the modern word can be related to Newton and Kepler. It is irrefutable that Newton
has a great influence on the world as it is

Daddy Sylvia Plath Analysis
A prevailing feeling when someone dies is the feeling of having unfinished business. This idea was
clearly incorporated into Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy. Through Plath s life she despised her father.
Seven years, if you want to know (74). Plath even compares him to a Nazi at one point in the poem, I
thought every German was you (Pg. 29). Even though the Nazi period was not during the time of
Daddy s publishing date to associate the amount of hatred she had for her father Plath compares him
to the worst person she could think of, a Nazi. Plath conveys the fact that when people die there is a
feeling of unfinished business that does not die along with them.
Throughout the poem Plath connects how she did not have enough time to fulfill ... Show more

To fill the feeling she used her husband who then she held the same hatred for. I killed one man, I ve
killed two (75). Plath does not literally mean killed when she metaphorically writes but only that they
are out of her life.
Another literary device that Plath uses is connecting the poem to herself. Usually it is a norm to keep
the author separate from the poem, but in Plath s case it is a different. She is writing about her own
father. Knowing this sends the meaning of the work to a different level of context and makes it
stronger because it is truly how she feels about the loss of her own father. Not only is she is explaining
that she does not like her father, she tells how the entire community despises her father, And the
villagers never liked you. They are dancing and stamping on you (77). A major hit on her father in this
line, writing that the herself and the villagers are dancing on his grave enforces the fact that she hated
her father. Plath writes that she goes back to dance on his grave because she is not at peace with the
hate she has for her father yet. The feelings left after him dying are still there.
Although Plath did write about her own father she still created characters with in the poem who
portrayed her husband and father. Building her husband up to be pictured as a The vampire who said
he was you and drank my blood for a year (72) and her father as a Marble heavy bag full of God (8)

To compare the ways in which these poems display the horrors of war. I have selected three poems,
The Soldier , by Rupert Brooke, Dulce et

and show the horrors of the war. On the other hand, I chose The Soldier because it is a complete

He also shows the courage of the soldiers by writing, Men marched asleep . Many had lost their boots,
but limped on, blood shod . The first stanza has eight lines and follows the rhyming scheme of A, B,
A, B through out the poem.
Owen uses this stanza as a tool to build up the story and is able to set the scene for the reader. Owen
uses many similes in this poem and writes, Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, and Knock
kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge . Owen uses a number of verbs as adjectives
such as haunting flares and dropping flares… The second Stanza is six lines and it also has the
rhyming scheme A, B, A, B, C, D.
Throughout the stanza Owen uses graphic detail to emphasise the pain of the soldiers, which creates
for the reader a violent image, which is calmed down by the last line, Of gas shells dropping softly
behind. The next line is, Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! Again this changes the mood, from peaceful to
violent. The reader then becomes prepared for some action in the poem. This is a swift build up of
description into the untimely demise of one of the soldiers. There are a lot of one word sentences and
exclamation marks to show the panic and horror of the soldiers.
The soldier, who is harmed by the gas bomb, is described by Wilfred
Owen as a helpless creature through the usage of words such as
floundering . The polluted air around him is described as a green
sea.

Food Stamps
Writing to Inform Food Stamps
The government has many funds going across the United States to help support the residents of its
country. Food stamps, also known as SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) or TANF
(Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) is a resource that provides people with a way to buy food
if they don t have the money to do so. This aid is given in different forms such as a LINK card, cash
and/or paper that resembles money but can be redeemed for food. Most people that use this resource
are having hardships in their lives. The USDA ( U.S Department of Agriculture) states that nearly 40

The Classic Heroic Story
A knight in shining armor, the damsel in distress, and the villain. The classic heroic story. The hero
starts out poor, ends up rich. With everything. Always fighting crime, saving the city, swinging from
webs, shooting arrows, growing green, throwing hammers. Heroes are perfect, heroes have powers,
heroes are rich, heroes never suffer, heroes are all men. All false. What has our society become if we
can only look up to an impossible image? True heroes are not all that perfect. True heroes find their
strengths from their weaknesses, they put others before themselves, and they have to disobey orders
when they know it s right. Heroes find their strengths from their weaknesses. Jordan Thomas is an

The Narrative Paradigm By Scott Stroud
Scott Stroud in his article Multivalent narratives: Extending the Narrative Paradigm with Insights from
Ancient Indian Philosophical Texts critiques the narrative paradigm by pointing out its weaknesses
and proposing revisions to the existing paradigm using ancient Indian philosophical narratives. Stroud
claims that Fisher s paradigm is too limiting and conservative when dealing with foreign concepts and
texts. The narrative paradigm does not allow people to experience new stories that may differ from
their traditional stories challenging their values and/ or accepting new ones (Stroud, p. 372). Our
judgment of a narrative is based on what we believe is just or true. New ideas or thoughts or values are

Knowing that man is separate from Dattatreya will lead to the mind being cleansed and salvation. This
narrative also says that Dattatreya is of this world, residing in everything of earth. The story argues
against the separation of the subordinate and the deity, saying, There is no Shepard, no flock (as cited
in Stroud, 2002). The deity tells man in order to achieve salvation he must meditate and work, but man
should do neither in order to gain reward, taking care to chose actions wisely as those choices will
impact future salvation (Stroud, 2002, p. 382). This text is full of contradictions; the deity is separate
from man, the deity is with man and of the world, meditate and work to gain salvation, meditation and
work are not important and will not gain man salvation. The second text is equally confusing and
contradictory within itself and to the first text. The Devi Gita is a goddess of divine power who urges
the reader to be devout only to her. She says she is also separate from the world, only later in the text
to claim she is of this world and with man. Meditation is important to achieve salvation however
meditating in hopes of salvation or to please the ego is not pleasing to her. Stroud claims that the
narrative paradigm as it is now is not efficient in rendering an outcome for the western reader of these
texts, which involve incoherence

Michael Moore s Bowling For Columbine Essay
When Michael Moore first created the documentary, Bowling for Columbine , in 2002 he not only
wanted to raise awareness around the tragedy that was the Columbine Massacre, but wanted to look
beyond that and dig deep into finding out the political events that led up to this tragic event. Michael
Moore wanted to seek to investigate and confront leading, powerful politicians for allowing this
violent culture to worsen for their own benefit through creating this documentary. It is clear that
Moore loves his country but hates its current politics which is why he decided to make Bowling for
Columbine as it both highlights the issues surrounding Americas current Gun laws whilst investigating
the truth behind the Columbine Massacre and the political events leading up to this tragedy. This
reading will explore Michael Moores political stance whilst investigating the power of the NRA
(national rifle association) and the manipulation of the media whilst finding out the political events
that led to the Columbine Massacre and changing the way Americans think about their 2nd
amendment ( right to bare arms ). It will also talk about Americas violent history.
Michael Moore was born in Flint, Michigan on April 23, 1954 where he then studied Journalism at the
University of Michigan Flint. Moore began working for the school newspaper, The Michigan Times
but turned to to filmmaking where his first BIG hit was Bowling for Columbine and earned him not
only an oscar but a big reputation.

Manchester s United Of The Football League
Prior to the arrival of Matt Busby, Manchester s United s chapter in the history of English football
begins with the founding of Newton Heath LYR [Lancashire Yorkshire Railway] Football Club in
1878 (Manchester United F.C., §1878 1909). Football was the most popular sport in the nearby
counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire in the mid 1800s, and it enjoyed popularity in Manchester as
well (Harvey, 57, 67). One historian attributes part of its success to the abundance of playing space
and events sanctioned by local business owners seeking to increase revenue (Harvey, 67). Newton
Health LYR joined the Football League in 1892, and was rechristened Manchester United after an
early infusion of funding. After moderate success through 1920 that prompted the construction of and
relocation to Old Trafford, the club entered a period of stagnation and decline, characterized by
relatively poor performance and plagued by financial difficulties. This floundering was exacerbated by
public perception of association football as an undignified, inferior sport. Academic institutions,
swayed by the patriotic qualities of toughness and leadership emphasized by rugby and perceived to
be absent in football, opted to field rugby teams (Taylor, 122). Numerous scandals further tarnished
association football s reputation, the most notable of which involved Manchester United and
Liverpool F.C. Players from both sides, after arranging bets on the match outcome, ensured a win for

The Free Application For Federal Student Aid
Introduction During week two, we were tasked to conduct a financial analysis of the Johnson family
and assess their ability to independently fund the college educations of their three children. That
analysis determined the two hundred dollars currently contributed monthly to each child s college
fund since each child was born will not fully fund their educations, given their ages, current balances
in each college fund and the annual inflation of college costs. Assuming their available cash flow will
only support the current monthly college fund contributions, alternative methods and financial tools
must be explored to mitigate the shortfall. The purpose of this paper will be to research other college
funding alternatives which may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is equally important for other potential forms of financial aid as many states and colleges
use your FAFSA data to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some private financial
aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid
(Federal Student Aid, 2017, p.1). Federal Student Aid is a very large program providing more than
$150 billion in federal grants, loans, and work study funds each year to more than 13 million students
paying for college or career school (Federal Student Aid, 2017, p.1). Therefore, the student who is
seeking financial aid to cover a portion of college costs needs to first and foremost complete a FAFSA
application as it is the basis for Federal Student Aid but is also the data source for other forms of
student financial aid. FAFSA applications consider the assets of the parents and the student in
determining the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and will normally expect a higher percentage of
contribution from student assets vice a lower percentage from the parents (Mannaioni Greer 2016).
For determining family or student assets to be assessed against potential financial aid, FAFSA places
emphasis on family or student adjusted gross income as other assets such as retirement accounts, cash
value life insurance, home equity and small business assets are excluded when calculating the EFC.

Cybercrime And The World Of Cybercrime Essay
In today s world, people have become very used to using high technology in the 21st century such as
computers, smartphones, and recently, smart watches. This technology is so common that many
people rely on their devices just to perform some basic tasks for some of the most common jobs. In
fact, these devices also help people stay in contact with one another. While this new age of technology
has brought along many great innovations and made the lives of many people a lot easier, it has also
opened up the world of cybercrime. Cybercrime is particularly dangerous because it is significantly
more difficult for a criminal to get caught due to the fact that they may be all the way on the other side
of the globe. The most common cybercrimes that people will hear of is identity theft and credit card
scams because those crimes are among the most difficult to solve and the criminals usually have
multiple victims. The worst part is that there are not enough people studying computer science or any
other science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) major let alone graduating with said major.
People want to have a sense of security and keep their most sensitive information private which would
mean making computers more secure and teaching people about the basics of online safety. There
have been many innovations in cybersecurity to better protect people s information by encryption.

Robert Von Hardenberg Research Paper
Georg Philipp Friedrich von Hardenberg was born in 1772 at Oberwiederstedt manor (now part of
Arnstein, Saxony Anhalt), in the Harz mountains. The family seat was a manorial estate, not simply a

include such important, influential magistrates and ministry officials as the Prussian chancellor Karl

Novalis are his only possessions now extant. In the church in Wiederstedt, he was christened Georg

Milton s Paradise Lost And The Fall Of Adam And Eve
Through his work of Paradise Lost, Milton exposes his view that God allows suffering in order for a
greater good of the human race to exist. Milton uses the Fall both Satan s and Adam and Eve s as a
device to demonstrate human corruption, as each fall is a step down from a higher being to a lower
being . Both the Fall of Satan and the Fall of Adam Eve are falls away from a position of divine power
to a position of chaos and disorder something Milton illustrates as an undesirable event. Milton
introduces Satan as a selfish, power hungry character; similar to an individual of today s society who
believes they are the greatest nobody can one up them. He inherently denies of the existence of a
greater God, as that would discredit his own belief that he is the utmost being. Instead of blind denial,
Satan instead builds up a power against God himself, in an effort to contest the throne of Heaven
(slide). However, this in of itself is a hypocrisy on his own beliefs, as he cannot be autonomous in a
search for autonomy, since he is unable to defeat God on his own. This is Satan s first fall, because he
has now relinquished his stance on denying a being greater than himself, and must maintain his
uprising unless he wants to face what Milton would consider a second Fall. Milton uses Satan as a
representation of disobedience within the human race; he is the wrong direction in the two paths of
moral decisions. He uses Satan to show that rebellion that stems from self

The Resurgence Of The Ku Klux Klan
The goal of this investigation is to delve into the question of: to what extent was the resurgence of the
Ku Klux Klan during the 1920s a reflection of societal change? In order to assess this question from
multiple perspectives on the topic, research is needed to further look into the Klan s motives both prior
to their revival as well as after. Events in the 1870s, when the Klan ended, as well as events in the
1920s, when the klan was reborn, will be considered in this investigation in order to make connections
between the KKK and why their revival in the 1920s reflected societal change. Among these events
include the end of Reconstruction, the Progressive Era, increase of immigration to the United States,
as well as the red scare of communism.

Swimming Is Not A Natural Act
Most people believe that the most efficient and effective way to lose weight is either by jogging or
running. They think this because running is done on land, involves very hard movements of the arms
and legs, and their heartrates are going at 5 beats per second. People always seem to forget that a
better, easier and less vigorous way to get fit is through swimming. Swimming is moving your body
through a body of water, either a pool or ocean, using your arms and legs, while running is moving
quickly on land with your feet. Swimming is not a natural act but a learned talent. According to Dr.
Howard Wainer, a swimmer and statistician at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J., the
human body was not meant to move quickly through water.
Most people believe that its harder to run than to swim but the fact is that it s harder to swim. In
swimming water acts as the resistance while in running, air is the resistance. Water is a lot thicker than
air which makes it harder to move through. When running, performance peters out as the distances get
longer but in swimming the pace is consistent regardless of the distance.
Swimming has a lot of benefits which most people don t know about. Swimming keeps your heartrate
up without overstressing the body. It builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness.
Swimming also keeps the heart and the lungs healthy. All the muscles are used while swimming so it s
a good all over body workout. Also, according to research done

Dispossessed And Patterns Recognition Essay
Thesis:
Women s role in science fiction and how it reflects our society
Women s role changing
Throughout Wool, The dispossessed and Pattern recognition, we are exposed to many female
characters in these novels. Although science fiction has long been defined as a genre dominated by
men, it is so surprising to see that women character has played dominate roles in these novels. The
impact of women on these novels can be clearly observed, but each book depicts women character so
differently that made me curious about knowing further about women s status and roles play in society
and how they change over time.
To start with The Dispossessed, which published 1974, tells the story of the two worlds, Anarres and
Urras, which are very different from each other. The passage marks a series of gendered differences
between the two societies: the people live and work in Annares treat women as their equal companions

not define herself as propriety to society or men. She makes her living by her unique abilities. From
my perspective, it is a sign that women s role in society today is heading to a status that they gradually
possess the conscious of identity rather than a dependent. Gibson intentionally portrays Cayce in such

Questions On The Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity Wall Insulation could be a remedy for the energy poverty undergone by many homes in
Ireland. Available statistics show over 60,000 low income and 160,000 other homes suffer from
energy poverty. This invariably affects their health, indoor comforts while causing huge wastage of
limited earnings. Insulation In general and cavity wall insulation in particular will help you if you are
one of the above house holders.
SEAI offers special grants for up to Euro 400 to meet your home improvements by cavity wall
insulation. The installations have to be carried out by qualified installers as special tools are required
to carry this out. Under no circumstance this is a DIY job even for a person good with their hands.
Cavity walls
A cavity wall can be a construction of two walls with an air gap in between or a wall constructed of
hollow blocks. The air gap in this manner should be continuous for any effective cavity wall insulation
to be carried out.
How are the Cavity walls insulated?
The cavity wall insulation is applied in several ways depending on the type and construction of wall,
type of insulation selected etc. What ever the material selected the idea is to cut off heat transfer by
cutting off the heat transfer primarily, by conduction (ie. by physical contact) and convection (ie. by
the movement of hot air (molecules) due to air currents). Naturally unless there is a continuous cavity
this process has limited detrimental affect as the heat by air movement is limited to

Dbq Memorialization
Memorializing is often the way to remember a very important, intelligent, or rich person who lives
above the rest of us. When we memorialize it sets a way to remember someone long after they have

world for the better or discover something new like Christopher Columbus, and his statue in Riverside
Park (Deegan, Jim, source B). Lincoln s memorial isn t where or had any importance to Lincoln, but it

Monster s Inc Target Audience
I like almost every Pixar film that s out on film but some are more realistic and relatable
than others. Monster s Inc. is one of my favorites for a couple reasons. Its very realistic to a
certain extent but it lets your adult mind go back for a while. It may even help some adults
understand their child s imagination. The target audience, in my opinion are children but it can
also be for adults. At least the adult would be able to follow and relate to the storyline. This film
connects to its target audience by using colorful scenes and relatable grammar
to the age group watching. A lot of children see the bright pretty colors and want to see more
The different characters with life like features and ways are also eye catching.

Political and Migration Issues Affecting Puerto Ricans in the United States
Puerto Ricans have a very distinct and complicated history. Their history is unlike any other
immigrants who migrated at the United States at any time. Their island became a focus of the United
States in 1898, when they won the island as booty in the Spanish American war. Puerto Ricans
residing in the United States have always had the dilemma of having to straddle both the American
and Puerto Rican cultures and Spanish and English languages. In my opinion, Puerto Ricans have
never had it easy living in the United States. So when I ask my grandparents, and other older

Improving The Standard And Effectiveness Of Education
ABSTRACT
Over the years, educators have laid emphasis on understanding factors that contribute to improving the
standard and effectiveness of education in impoverished neighborhoods. A lot of studies have aimed to
ascertain the benefits that various safety network programs have for at risk children living in poverty
stricken areas of the country. This paper seeks to highlight the host of elements that have a positive
bearing on the academic outcome of children belonging to the poverty stricken counties in the state of
Ohio. The research will employ a qualitative method design and involve using semi structured
interviews, observations and archival data to explore the teaching methodologies and administrative
measures that play a role in improving the effectiveness of schools in areas affected by poverty.
The paper is designed to provide insight regarding the adverse effects that poverty has on education
and what could be done to remedy the situation, by addressing three distinct research questions. Firstly
it asks the question about what factors have a detrimental impact on the educational outcome of high
poverty states in the country. Secondly it seeks to determine how such factors serve as barriers in the
way of development for children belonging to less affluent families. Lastly, the paper looks into that
question of what administrative measures can be taken in order to effect a positive change in the
educational outcomes of children belonging to less affluent counties in

Queer Representation Of All Ages Media Essay
Queer Representation in All Ages Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s
and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media
I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in
hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something
negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected
exactly how homosexuality was portrayed in media at the time. Queer characters and homosexuality
were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst,
something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly watches reads comics,
watches Saturday morning cartoons and plays video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of
progress that has been made in queer representation in all ages media. In this paper I hope to detail the
highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all ages media and highlight the impact of media
representation. Before celebrating the strides of queer representation in all ages media, it is important
to look back at queer representation in the past. The late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly
researched the evolution of queer representation in cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet.
In both the book and the documentary based of the book, Russo details the

Notes On The Great Leap Forward Movement Essay
Arun Mohan
Mid Term Exam
Part I: Term Identification Questions (explain the following terms): 10 points each
1. The Great Leap Forward Movement: This is one of the new units of collective identity which was
integrated into society through widespread communization movements in the place of the authority of
traditional collective entities. This movement embodied industrialization and collectivization. In
essence it was an attempt by Mao to achieve the technical and economic development of China at a
quicker rate to catch up with the United States and Britain. It even led to the establishment of Peoples
Communes.
2. Four Cardinal Principles in the Chinese constitution: These principles portray the vital components
of Chinese communist ideology. Deng Xiaoping introduced these principles in 1979, and they promote
the ideas of preserving the socialist path, upholding the people s democratic dictatorship, preserving
the leadership of the Communist party of China, and finally the notion of maintenance of Marxism
Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought.
3. Hydraulic society: A hydraulic society is a society which relies on water control and a hydraulic or
large scale irrigation system in the strive to keep the droughts and floods under control. This gave rise
to the idea of a despotic state, which is ideally a despotic form of government.
4. Mandate from Heaven: In the traditional Chinese political system, the emperor is the Son of Heaven

Commentary and Analysis of Samuel Huntington’s paper “The...
Lately there has been a thought that the difference in Civilizations is another issue that may cause a
conflict. Starting from World War I the arguments raised by nations were over an ideology: fascism vs.
communism, communism vs. democracy. Some people believe that the next step would be a war
based on a cultural sense and religion. Such war would unite people with similar beliefs, views on the
world, language, tradition and history. They believe the conflict of the future will occur along the
cultural fault lines separating civilizations [1]. So what exactly is the clash of civilizations? This was
briefly addressed in Samuel Huntington s paper The clash of civilizations? . In order to explain the
term, let s first look into what civilization is. Person does not simply get to choose the civilization
he/she simply belongs to. Communists can become democrats and vice versa, but Russians can never
become Americans or Arabs cannot become European. In the conflict between civilizations the
question is What are you? , it is something given and cannot be changed. Conflicts between countries
are inevitable and with the way things work it is just a matter of time, before one country would not be
comfortable with what other country is doing. In that case, cultural characteristics and differences are
less mutable and hence less easily compromised and resolved than political and economic ones [1].
The clash of civilizations often occurs on two levels. Micro level is when small

I Learned My Values And Character Traits
Raised by a single mother in a small farming town south of Detroit called Monroe, I learned my
values and character traits vicariously through my mother, father and brother. My father was not in my
life while growing up due to his battle with alcoholism, but to me that illustrated addiction s ability to
ruin one s life. Raised solely by my mother, she demonstrated her mantra that anything is
accomplishable if you work hard and never give up. Becoming the first female Cub Master of the Year
for our Boy Scout Troop, teaching us to race dirt bikes and play every sport at the Catholic grade
school we attended were only some of my mother s accomplishments that helped shape my
perspective. While most of my family attended a Catholic High School, I chose to be part the pilot
class of a pre medicine focused middle college. Beginning to dual enroll as a sophomore in high
school, I was soon recommended to become a college level writing fellow. Over the next three years, I
expanded my skills to tutor over 10 courses, lead a supplemental instruction course, and tutor for
students taking the GED and ACT, while attending my courses and working as a deli server, bag boy,
and ice cream server. Through working to support myself, I discovered that I am most successful
when I am productively busy, which I apply to my jobs, school work, and research. Furthermore,
working towards my goal of learning as much as possible, I became an adept learner and spent my
time most efficiently. This allowed

Taking a Look at the Coca Plant
Erythroxylum coca is a plant native to the Andean region in South America. However that is not the
only place that it is grown. It is also grown in Mexico, India, Tanzania, Madagascar, other parts of
Africa, and in some places in Asia including Indonesia. To grow the coca plant, it must be in an area
that is slightly sloping so no water can drown the plants. The seeds planted are gathered from
December to March being 2 to 3 years old. They are planted in small plots shaded from the sun. They
are sown 2 inches apart and are weeded frequently. A coca plant germinates in about 20 to 30 days. It
reaches its transplanting size in 2 months when it is about 12 inches tall. It reaches full maturity and is
harvested between 12 and 24 months after it is transplanted. The leaves are harvest ready when they
have a yellowish tint and they crack when bent. the leaves are picked by hand. The most abundant
harvest is after the March rains. Other harvests occur in June, July, and November. After being
harvested the leaves are put in sacks, then taken to a closed room and spread on the floor. The next day
they are spread in thin layers on a tarpaulin out in the sun while they dry. If they are receiving direct
sunlight, then they can dry within 6 hours. On a cloudy day they can take longer to dry. If it rains or
storms the leaves must be taken inside or they will be ruined because if they have over 14% moisture
they will ferment. After being dried the leaves are left for 3 days before they

The Scientific Revolution And The Enlightened Aftermath...
Chapter 29 The Scientific Revolution and the Enlightened Aftermath
The Scientific Revolution was the accumulated capital ideas of the genius of the 17th century. Natural
science was in an upswing in importance and accuracy. The scientific method had two elements:
careful observation and systematic experimentation based on the observation. Next was the
interpretation of that data, mathematical measurements.
Rene Descartes (1596 1650) was a forefather for the use of mathematical style of investigation. He
separated materialistic from the non materialistic universe.
Deductive reasoning was the approach where the understanding of the material world was formulated
into broad generalizations of the quantitative nature and utilized to explain particular processes.
Nicholas Copernicus (1473 1543) was Polish scholar who penned the Revolution of the Heavenly
Bodies, He questioned the theory of an earth centered geocentric universe. He concluded that the earth
revolved around a fixed sun, and this belief was called heliocentrism.
Sir Isaac Newton (1642 1727) was the co discoverer of calculus, he was fundamentalist for the
spectrum of light, and in 1687, he published his work referred to as Principia Mathematica or
Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy. He can also be credited to the prophecies of the Old
Testament.

Elements Of Mise-En Scene In Boogie Nights
In the film, Boogie Nights, the director, Paul Thomas Anderson utilizes elements of mise en scene
such as the natural acting and impressive use of space, with engrossing shot choice and complex
camera movement in his cinematography as he brings the audience into the atmospheric, realistic, and
vibrant world of the 1970s. This is displayed effectively in the film s fantastic opening tracking shot.
The opening scene of Boogie Nights is very ambitious as its goal is to introduce us to the time period
and the many characters that inhabit the world of the film. The scene opens in 1977 at the Hot Traxx
Disco in the San Fernando Valley. Right from the opening, the film just captures the zeitgeist of the
time. The culture is underlined by the costumes. In the 1970s, clothing considered fashionable was
such things as bell bottoms, flares, platform shoes, disco suits, and ete. They are specifically seen in
the background when Jack is driving to the nightclub. This is further shown in the nightclub where
everyone is dressed very fashionably. Moreover, there is a significance and meaning to the costume
design. The costumes dictate what roles these people had. A prime example of this is in the
background, which shows how men and women were portrayed in society. The waiters are ... Show

Homecoming is divided into several sections, and Woman s work appears in one section called

program of sweeping economic and social changes. Castro allied his government with the Soviet

the ebargo against Cuba. These debates deal with the effects of the Embargo on Cuba s economy,
humanitarian rights and health of the people of Cuba. The embargo today places a ban on subsidiary
trade, Licensing, shipping and humanitarian aid. (Close Up Foundation) In 1992, the Cuban
Democracy act imposed a ban on subsidiary trade with Cuba. This ban restricted Cuba s ability to
import medicines and medical supplies from third country sources. There have also been corporate
buy outs and mergers between U.S. and European pharmaceutical companies thus adding to the
number of companies permitted to do business with Cuba. Under the Cuban Democracy Act, The U.S.
Treasury and Commerce Departments are allowed to license individual sales of medicines and
medical supplies, supposedly for humanitarian reasons to make up for the embargo s impact on health
care delivery. According to the U.S. corporate executives, the licensing provisions are so tough as to
have had the opposite effect. With this statement, it is assumed that there are fewer licenses given out
for humanitarian reason therefore favoring the embargo and aiding in the downfall of health in Cuba.

open with an iron bar in a demonstration last year, Mustafa fled (Oweis, 2012). Motivation is evident
here, not only are the Kurds oppressed, but one of their political leaders son s head was cracked open.
It s obvious that not only would Mustafa be angry, but that anger might fuel his desire to fight for
Kurdish rights. He d be doing it for his son along with his people. Imagine what it would be like in the
shoes of someone with no country to really call home, no place you belong, of course you would fight
for the right to have that place! According to Oweis (2012), Unlike Iraq, where Kurds rule a semi
autonomous region in the north, Syrian Kurdish leaders say they only want a federal system that
would guarantee citizenship, property rights, Kurdish language education and an equitable budget
distribution . The reasons for fighting for their rights aren t just made by the leaders, like Mustafa, but
the people as well. Many could agree that their requests aren t unreasonable, strengthening their

Informative Essay On Outdoor Dining
Focus keyword: outdoor dining Meta description: Title: Blog post: (photo?) The dining table has
become an iconic gathering place for decades. It s where people come to be together, share in a meal
and connect over conversation. Dinner time is a special time to bond, to relax, to build memories, and
enjoy. The dining table has become a universal symbol of togetherness, and in South Florida, we like

prove to be crucial. Today, the battle is recognized as a big contribution for the Allied Power s victory
in World War II. On December 7, 1941, Japanese fighter pilots attacked the U.S. naval base of Pearl

  • 2. Merchant of Venice Antonio Bigoted and spiteful and well intentioned and loyal , which of these views best describes the character of Antonio in your question. In Merchant of Venice , Antonio is the main character as he is the merchant in the story in Venice. As Antonio is a Christian, he is quite anti Semitic and rude to Shylock, making some people believe that he is spiteful and bigoted. However, most of the play centers on him being the victim of the villain of the play, Shylock due to their bond they made. As Antonio is willing to give everything for Bassanio without any payment and he strikes at any chance to help Bassanio, I believe Shakespearian and modern audiences would believe him to be more of a well intentioned and loyal friend. At the start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word dare shows his bravery in helping Bassanio, seeing as his first time bounding himself for Bassanio turned out to be a life and death situation. This time, Antonio doesn t need Shylock or anyone else s taunting to agree to a bond, but for the sake of Bassanio and Portia s happiness, he is willing to put his soul upon the forfeit . He not only gives his life, he also gives his soul. This sounds more religious and important than dying, so Antonio shows his most extreme means and greater commitment in ensuring Bassanio s happiness. This strongly displays his well intentions behind his actions. However, this also suggests that this bond will not end well, because in the first bond, Antonio failed to return the money. All in all, Antonio is well intentioned and certainly very loyal towards Bassanio, as he helps his friend as well as he can quite a few times and the only reason behind his actions is their friendship, showing his benevolence. Even though Antonio is quite mean to Shylock, showing anti semitism but overall, this main character is surely seen as a kind hearted and faithful friend in audiences of all ages and ... They are responsible for countless scientific breakthroughs and discoveries, making them immensely relevant today. Many of the simple tasks of everyday life rely on a basis of knowledge brought about by these two men. Although they worked in the same general subject fields, they lived completely different lives and made completely different discoveries. Newton was able to learn from the ideas of Kepler and use that information to make his own breakthroughs. These two men have their similarities and differences but worked towards a common goal of furthering scientific understanding of the world. Johannes Kepler was an exceptionally accomplished man. He was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, calculus is a very common course taught in schools. Much like Kepler s laws, Newton s laws of motion are also taught in physics classes. If it weren t for these laws, there would not be any basic understanding of the way objects move. Taking these laws into account, everything from building large structures to making vehicles safer is made easier. Still used in modern calculations, the newton is the main unit for the measurement of force. Named after Isaac Newton, this unit proves just how influential he was to physics and understanding forces. If it weren t for Isaac Newton, astronomers may not have such advanced telescopes. According to telescopenerd.com, Sir Isaac Newton didn t use his telescope to find any new things in the universe but he did use it to radically transform how we view the world we live in and the universe as a whole. • 4. Daddy Sylvia Plath Analysis A prevailing feeling when someone dies is the feeling of having unfinished business. This idea was clearly incorporated into Sylvia Plath s poem Daddy. Through Plath s life she despised her father. Seven years, if you want to know (74). Plath even compares him to a Nazi at one point in the poem, I thought every German was you (Pg. 29). Even though the Nazi period was not during the time of Daddy s publishing date to associate the amount of hatred she had for her father Plath compares him to the worst person she could think of, a Nazi. Plath conveys the fact that when people die there is a feeling of unfinished business that does not die along with them. To fill the feeling she used her husband who then she held the same hatred for. I killed one man, I ve killed two (75). Plath does not literally mean killed when she metaphorically writes but only that they are out of her life. Another literary device that Plath uses is connecting the poem to herself. Usually it is a norm to keep the author separate from the poem, but in Plath s case it is a different. She is writing about her own father. Knowing this sends the meaning of the work to a different level of context and makes it stronger because it is truly how she feels about the loss of her own father. Not only is she is explaining that she does not like her father, she tells how the entire community despises her father, And the villagers never liked you. They are dancing and stamping on you (77). A major hit on her father in this line, writing that the herself and the villagers are dancing on his grave enforces the fact that she hated her father. Plath writes that she goes back to dance on his grave because she is not at peace with the hate she has for her father yet. The feelings left after him dying are still there. Although Plath did write about her own father she still created characters with in the poem who portrayed her husband and father. Building her husband up to be pictured as a The vampire who said he was you and drank my blood for a year (72) and her father as a Marble heavy bag full of God (8) creates ... The first stanza has eight lines and follows the rhyming scheme of A, B, A, B through out the poem. Owen uses this stanza as a tool to build up the story and is able to set the scene for the reader. Owen uses many similes in this poem and writes, Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, and Knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge . Owen uses a number of verbs as adjectives such as haunting flares and dropping flares… The second Stanza is six lines and it also has the rhyming scheme A, B, A, B, C, D. Throughout the stanza Owen uses graphic detail to emphasise the pain of the soldiers, which creates for the reader a violent image, which is calmed down by the last line, Of gas shells dropping softly behind. The next line is, Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! Again this changes the mood, from peaceful to violent. The reader then becomes prepared for some action in the poem. This is a swift build up of description into the untimely demise of one of the soldiers. There are a lot of one word sentences and exclamation marks to show the panic and horror of the soldiers. The soldier, who is harmed by the gas bomb, is described by Wilfred Owen as a helpless creature through the usage of words such as floundering . The narrative paradigm does not allow people to experience new stories that may differ from their traditional stories challenging their values and/ or accepting new ones (Stroud, p. 372). The deity tells man in order to achieve salvation he must meditate and work, but man should do neither in order to gain reward, taking care to chose actions wisely as those choices will impact future salvation (Stroud, 2002, p. 382). This text is full of contradictions; the deity is separate from man, the deity is with man and of the world, meditate and work to gain salvation, meditation and work are not important and will not gain man salvation. The second text is equally confusing and contradictory within itself and to the first text. The Devi Gita is a goddess of divine power who urges the reader to be devout only to her. Football was the most popular sport in the nearby counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire in the mid 1800s, and it enjoyed popularity in Manchester as well (Harvey, 57, 67). One historian attributes part of its success to the abundance of playing space and events sanctioned by local business owners seeking to increase revenue (Harvey, 67). Newton Health LYR joined the Football League in 1892, and was rechristened Manchester United after an early infusion of funding. After moderate success through 1920 that prompted the construction of and relocation to Old Trafford, the club entered a period of stagnation and decline, characterized by relatively poor performance and plagued by financial difficulties. This floundering was exacerbated by public perception of association football as an undignified, inferior sport. Academic institutions, swayed by the patriotic qualities of toughness and leadership emphasized by rugby and perceived to be absent in football, opted to field rugby teams (Taylor, 122). Federal Student Aid is a very large program providing more than $150 billion in federal grants, loans, and work study funds each year to more than 13 million students paying for college or career school (Federal Student Aid, 2017, p.1). Milton s Paradise Lost And The Fall Of Adam And Eve Through his work of Paradise Lost, Milton exposes his view that God allows suffering in order for a greater good of the human race to exist. Milton uses the Fall both Satan s and Adam and Eve s as a device to demonstrate human corruption, as each fall is a step down from a higher being to a lower being . Both the Fall of Satan and the Fall of Adam Eve are falls away from a position of divine power to a position of chaos and disorder something Milton illustrates as an undesirable event. Milton introduces Satan as a selfish, power hungry character; similar to an individual of today s society who believes they are the greatest nobody can one up them. He inherently denies of the existence of a greater God, as that would discredit his own belief that he is the utmost being. Instead of blind denial, Satan instead builds up a power against God himself, in an effort to contest the throne of Heaven (slide). However, this in of itself is a hypocrisy on his own beliefs, as he cannot be autonomous in a search for autonomy, since he is unable to defeat God on his own. This is Satan s first fall, because he has now relinquished his stance on denying a being greater than himself, and must maintain his uprising unless he wants to face what Milton would consider a second Fall. Swimming is moving your body through a body of water, either a pool or ocean, using your arms and legs, while running is moving quickly on land with your feet. According to Dr. Howard Wainer, a swimmer and statistician at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J., the human body was not meant to move quickly through water. Most people believe that its harder to run than to swim but the fact is that it s harder to swim. In swimming water acts as the resistance while in running, air is the resistance. A lot of studies have aimed to ascertain the benefits that various safety network programs have for at risk children living in poverty stricken areas of the country. This paper seeks to highlight the host of elements that have a positive bearing on the academic outcome of children belonging to the poverty stricken counties in the state of Ohio. The research will employ a qualitative method design and involve using semi structured interviews, observations and archival data to explore the teaching methodologies and administrative measures that play a role in improving the effectiveness of schools in areas affected by poverty. Firstly it asks the question about what factors have a detrimental impact on the educational outcome of high poverty states in the country. Secondly it seeks to determine how such factors serve as barriers in the way of development for children belonging to less affluent families. Lastly, the paper looks into that question of what administrative measures can be taken in order to effect a positive change in the educational outcomes of children belonging to less affluent counties in ... • 27. Queer Representation Of All Ages Media Essay Queer Representation in All Ages Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected exactly how homosexuality was portrayed in media at the time. Queer characters and homosexuality were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst, something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly watches reads comics, watches Saturday morning cartoons and plays video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of progress that has been made in queer representation in all ages media. In this paper I hope to detail the highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all ages media and highlight the impact of media representation. Before celebrating the strides of queer representation in all ages media, it is important to look back at queer representation in the past. The late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly researched the evolution of queer representation in cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet. In both the book and the documentary based of the book, Russo details the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Commentary and Analysis of Samuel Huntington’s paper “The... Lately there has been a thought that the difference in Civilizations is another issue that may cause a conflict. Starting from World War I the arguments raised by nations were over an ideology: fascism vs. communism, communism vs. democracy. Some people believe that the next step would be a war based on a cultural sense and religion. Such war would unite people with similar beliefs, views on the world, language, tradition and history. They believe the conflict of the future will occur along the cultural fault lines separating civilizations [1]. So what exactly is the clash of civilizations? This was briefly addressed in Samuel Huntington s paper The clash of civilizations? . In order to explain the term, let s first look into what civilization is. Person does not simply get to choose the civilization he/she simply belongs to. Communists can become democrats and vice versa, but Russians can never become Americans or Arabs cannot become European. In the conflict between civilizations the question is What are you? , it is something given and cannot be changed. Conflicts between countries are inevitable and with the way things work it is just a matter of time, before one country would not be comfortable with what other country is doing. In that case, cultural characteristics and differences are less mutable and hence less easily compromised and resolved than political and economic ones [1]. The clash of civilizations often occurs on two levels. Micro level is when small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I Learned My Values And Character Traits Raised by a single mother in a small farming town south of Detroit called Monroe, I learned my values and character traits vicariously through my mother, father and brother. My father was not in my life while growing up due to his battle with alcoholism, but to me that illustrated addiction s ability to ruin one s life. Raised solely by my mother, she demonstrated her mantra that anything is accomplishable if you work hard and never give up. Becoming the first female Cub Master of the Year for our Boy Scout Troop, teaching us to race dirt bikes and play every sport at the Catholic grade school we attended were only some of my mother s accomplishments that helped shape my perspective. While most of my family attended a Catholic High School, I chose to be part the pilot class of a pre medicine focused middle college. Beginning to dual enroll as a sophomore in high school, I was soon recommended to become a college level writing fellow. Over the next three years, I expanded my skills to tutor over 10 courses, lead a supplemental instruction course, and tutor for students taking the GED and ACT, while attending my courses and working as a deli server, bag boy, and ice cream server. It is also grown in Mexico, India, Tanzania, Madagascar, other parts of Africa, and in some places in Asia including Indonesia. To grow the coca plant, it must be in an area that is slightly sloping so no water can drown the plants. The seeds planted are gathered from December to March being 2 to 3 years old. They are planted in small plots shaded from the sun. They are sown 2 inches apart and are weeded frequently. A coca plant germinates in about 20 to 30 days. It reaches its transplanting size in 2 months when it is about 12 inches tall. It reaches full maturity and is harvested between 12 and 24 months after it is transplanted. The leaves are harvest ready when they have a yellowish tint and they crack when bent. the leaves are picked by hand. The most abundant harvest is after the March rains. Other harvests occur in June, July, and November. After being harvested the leaves are put in sacks, then taken to a closed room and spread on the floor. The next day they are spread in thin layers on a tarpaulin out in the sun while they dry. If they are receiving direct sunlight, then they can dry within 6 hours. Chapter 29 The Scientific Revolution and the Enlightened Aftermath The Scientific Revolution was the accumulated capital ideas of the genius of the 17th century. Natural science was in an upswing in importance and accuracy. The scientific method had two elements: careful observation and systematic experimentation based on the observation. Next was the interpretation of that data, mathematical measurements. Rene Descartes (1596 1650) was a forefather for the use of mathematical style of investigation. He separated materialistic from the non materialistic universe. Deductive reasoning was the approach where the understanding of the material world was formulated into broad generalizations of the quantitative nature and utilized to explain particular processes. Nicholas Copernicus (1473 1543) was Polish scholar who penned the Revolution of the Heavenly Bodies, He questioned the theory of an earth centered geocentric universe. He concluded that the earth revolved around a fixed sun, and this belief was called heliocentrism. Sir Isaac Newton (1642 1727) was the co discoverer of calculus, he was fundamentalist for the spectrum of light, and in 1687, he published his work referred to as Principia Mathematica or Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy. This is displayed effectively in the film s fantastic opening tracking shot. The opening scene of Boogie Nights is very ambitious as its goal is to introduce us to the time period and the many characters that inhabit the world of the film. The scene opens in 1977 at the Hot Traxx Disco in the San Fernando Valley. Right from the opening, the film just captures the zeitgeist of the time. The culture is underlined by the costumes. In the 1970s, clothing considered fashionable was such things as bell bottoms, flares, platform shoes, disco suits, and ete. They are specifically seen in the background when Jack is driving to the nightclub. This is further shown in the nightclub where everyone is dressed very fashionably. The embargo today places a ban on subsidiary trade, Licensing, shipping and humanitarian aid. (Close Up Foundation) In 1992, the Cuban Democracy act imposed a ban on subsidiary trade with Cuba.
