The Problems And Challenges Of Performance Management
Part 3 Empirical chapter
Discussion of the Problems and Challenges of performance management
Performance management mostly is not successful as expected in the public sector. According to
Her Majesty s Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland (2005) a thematic inspection of
performance management noted that though performance management was substantially developed
, a long way is still needed to go before everyone was responsible for providing a good service and
many areas of performance management in the early stages of implementation existed as well .
There are many implementation reasons causing these problems, for instance, the reduction of
government spending (Gianakis, 2002), or purely a tool for management rather than a tool for ...

Technical problems refers to the indicators and the data, information collection, interpretation
and analysis. They are preponderantly difficult problems (Pollanen, 2005; Adcroft and Willis,
2005) and especially in terms of data quality (Black et al., 2001), the choice of indicators (Black
et al., 2001; Bevan and Hood, 2006; Carvalho et al., 2006), validation (Evans, 2004; Carlin,
2004), reporting (Pollanen, 2005; Adcroft and Willis, 2005) and usage and interpretation (Neely
et al., 1995; Wilcox and Bourne, 2003). Nevertheless, organisations are focusing on improving
the technical problems of their indicators (Pollitt, 2005). Secondly, systems problems are related
to the bigger picture issues, i.e. integrating performance systems into the original systems
(Gianakis, 2002), a lack of strategic view which encourages short term thinking (Neely et al.,
1995), the ambiguity of performance objectives (Pollanen, 2005), sub optimisation (Neely et al.,
1995; Pollitt, 2000; Gianakis, 2002; Adcroft and Willis, 2005) and the cost of performance
management (Train and Williams, 2000; Holzer and Yang, 2004; Pollanen, 2005). The third kind
of problem are the significant people issues and their involvement inside the PM system among
inter multiple stakeholders (Black et al., 2001; Wang and Berman, 2001; Gianakis, 2002;
McAdam et al., 2005). These issues can be caused by a

Philip K. Dick And The Minority Report By George Orwell
We can t be confined to one way of thinking, and that terrifies our leaders. It means we can t be
controlled. Veronica Roth.
Various representations of the future are envisioned by many, most of which present a dystopia
rather than a utopia. This is due to the advancements being made by the modern world that raise
concerns about security and especially privacy, leading text makers to predict the worst. The issue
is discussed in the texts The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick (1956), Steven Spielberg s Minority
Report (2002) and George Orwell s 1984 (1949). Through elements such as surveillance,
technology and excessive government control, Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and George
Orwell create a bleak and dystopic vision of the future.
Through falsely accusing innocent people and heavy control, a near dystopic future is
exemplified in the novella, The Minority Report (TMR) by Philip K. Dick. The story is based
on pre crime which is foreseen by three precognitives which result in a supposedly crime free
society. However, it only becomes an illusion of peace by essentially taking in individuals who
have broken no law, (pg. 72.) therefore there s a moral dilemma for the accused are being
imprisoned based on the majority report. The report is an accumulation of the two most similar
reports from the three precogs as mentioned by Dick, the existence of a majority logically implies a
corresponding minority (pg. 84). This means that the chance of the third

Essay About Summer Camp
Summer Camp
It was summer of 2013 and it was my first time traveling alone. I was going to ChampГ©ry,
Switzerland. I felt excited because it s a part of the world which I haven t visited before. Going to
the airport by myself and going through customs was a bit of a hassle, but nothing I can t handle.
When I arrived at ChampГ©ry by train, I had to walk to the camp which not that far Just a 10
minute walk. As I walked to there the scenery was breathtaking. It was so green and surrounded
with mountains where you can see white peaks because of the snow. You can see the cows
wandering around on the hills and hear their jiggling bells.
As I reached the camp, the manager was there greeting the new arrivals and the place we were
staying at was this big 4 floor wooden house. The staff there were so friendly and welcoming.
Everyone there was from different parts of the world. In the first day, they gave us a chance to
go around and socialize and get familiar with the place because it ll be my home for the next 5
weeks. At first it was hard to communicate to people there because we all speak different
languages, but we all know to talk English which was a life saver.
When I started to walk around and get to know people there and I was surprised on how diverse the
camp was, there were Spanish, Portuguese Russians, and English and many more. When ... Show

My Journey Of My Career Development
Miranda Kilmer Integration Paper My journey to my career development has been a roller
coaster ride to say the least. Everything I ve learned in this class and throughout the years has
shaped me into who I am and has played a major role in my career decision making process. Ever
since I was little I was always interested in acting and had dreamed of being in movies. Many kids
probably had a similar dream, but for some reason I had a strong desire to follow through with it.
Whenever I watched a movie I would always catch myself saying the lines along with the
characters, and changing my voice to fit each role. No one ever really knew that this was
something I was interested in because I never admitted to it. I never told anybody because every
time I would bring it up, everyone seemed to have the same opinion about it. They say that being
an actor is not a reliable career and that being successful in that industry is a long shot. As I got
older I started to agree with them. I pushed aside my dream of becoming an actress and decided
to focus on more reliable career choices like lawyers, teachers, doctors, etc... When I tried to find
interest in these jobs, it always failed. They just didn t fit my personality and after taking this
class I learned why. This class has really helped me develop a sense of myself. I learned a lot
about myself with the help of the self assessment inventories, journal entries, values

Forensic Evidence Regarding Air Indiaflight 182
THE FORENSIC EVIDENCE CONCERNING AIR INDIAFLIGHT 182
Background
The in flight disintegration of the Kanishka, most of the aircraft came to rest on the ocean floor
almost 7,000 feet below the surface. During the accident investigation that followed, the
submerged wreckage was surveyed, photographed, videotaped and pieces were recovered off the
ocean floor. Floating wreckage was also recovered and examined. Each piece was given a unique
number called target . Target means that specific parts of planes were to be destroyed. When the
RCMP returned to the crashed site for two subsequent salvage operations in 1989 and 1991 during
which further underwater video footage was captured and further wreckage was recovered. The

Bart Blachford, the RCMP member with primary conduct of the forensic investigation into the
explosion of the Kanishka. The underwater images of many of the unrecovered targets were
converted into computer aided design ( CAD ) images, which in turn were used to simulate certain
important targets from the aft fuselage of the aircraft. Under the supervision of the RCMP, these
simulated targets were assembled with the actual recovered wreckage in a partial reconstruction of
the Kanishka at a warehouse in the Lower Mainland as an aid to understanding the technical expert
evidence regarding the destruction of the aircraft. Experts presented portions of their evidence at
this warehouse during the trial and referred extensively to the reconstruction in demonstrating their
respective theories. The significance of this expert evidence lies primarily in their differing
opinions regarding the location of the bomb that precipitated the destruction of the Kanishka. The
Crown theory, supported by the opinion evidence of Professor Christopher Peel, is that it was
located in Baggage Area 52, which contained the M. Singh bag. The defence theory, supported by
the opinion evidence of Dr. Edward Trimble and Mr. Frank Taylor, is that it was located some five
feet forward of that location in Baggage Area 51, containing luggage checked in at Toronto. A
conclusion that the defence evidence raises a reasonable doubt with respect to the Crown s bomb
location would fundamentally undermine

Examples Of Inhumanity In Tuesdays With Morrie
Where would the world be without humanity? Would it be laying in ruins because of needless wars
fought? Perhaps there would be a so called master race that exterminated any person that slightly
deviated from what was deemed perfect. Maybe there would be no more humans left at all.
Humanity binds the humanrace together. The caring for other people and not just thinking about
yourself. The word is humanity, and the root of that is human. This concept is central to all our
beliefs. Just like a coin though, there is a flip side. Inhumanity, when humansdo not act like regular
humans. To be described as inhuman a person has to be extremely nefarious. These people that
commit inhuman acts upon others are treated as monsters, and by all rights are monsters. Both of
the books we read this semester dealt with humanity and inhumanity. Although one book clearly had
a lot more inhumanity in it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

affects the nervous system. Mitch is very upset about Morrie dieing. Morrie taught Mitch a lot
about life and humanity. Morrie taught Mitch how to feel, and hot to deal with emotions. Even
though Morrie is dying slowly and painfully, Morrie is staying positive. On one occasion Morrie
tells Mitch that in the mornings is when Morrie mourns. Morrie mourns the insidious disease and
mourns what is lost. After that Morrie cries if needed, and thinks about all the good things still
left in life(Albom 57). This is exactly how to balance inhumanity and humanity. People must
always look at the good in every situation. In Night the characters tried to stay positive just as
Morrie is trying to. Morrie once said, make peace with living (173). Morrie was content in dying
and held no unrealistic beliefs. Mitch believed it was wrong to take someone who had helped him

The American Dream By James Madison
Parth Patel Honors English III 2nd Hour 4/27/16 James Madison stated That part of America
which had encouraged them most had advanced most rapidly in population, agriculture and the
art. This means that if our American goal is to do something, we will not only do that task, we
will be the best in the world at it. Also we went out west because we were encouraged to go west,
not that we had to.This represents the path we took to settle the west. We went out west first to
get the gold and then we would build railroad and then cities would emerge. The American
dream is always changing for different people in different times. The American dream during
this time period was to get control of all the land out west and unite it. We would be settling the
west for many years but it shows our American Dream in settling the west was to make the west
advanced as the east. People who moved and settled western lands were motivated to do so for
the many reasons. Many people believed that you go west to get a new and better life. The west
was filled with opportunities like the abundance of land. This land was sold cheap to farmers
who would take care for it and a positive was that no one farmed and used up all the nutrients in
the soil. There was also opportunities to hunt for buffalo and make money by selling the hide and
meat. With the demand on meat in the growing eastern cities, people also moved west to raise
cattle. With the declining rates of the buffalo it would free up

the Debelle Fairness Cream is very light weight so whenever I use it, It feels as if I have applied
nothing at all! The cream also has a mild fragrance which is very pleasing to the nose. On the
packaging it s mentioned that you should use the cream twice a day to get the best results out of
it, but I generally use it only once in a day (out of my laziness, I forget to apply it for the second
time! п ќ) and it still keeps my skin moisturized for almost whole day! Dry skinned beauties may
feel the need of applying it more than once or twice though. The best thing is that the cream is
suitable for all types of skin, but if you have sensitive skin then please check the ingredients list

Retaliation In Slavery
Question: How does Retaliation affect the British and the Colonists? In our study of the
Revolutionary War Era, we engaged in some pre Rev War work, with the events leading up to
the Revolutionary War, then went into Historical Fiction book clubs, watched and discussed the
Sons of Liberty and through all of this I have come to believe that... One of the ways I have seen
Retaliation throughout my notes is in Sons of Liberty . For example, After the Boston Tea Party,
the British retaliated by killing multiple colonists in the village, and whipping Sam Adams. Next,
After the colonists stole the gun powder from the British, The british than declared war and killed
multiple americans. My third piece of evidence is, In Sons of Liberty, when Thomas Gage s wife

Looking through history, I ve noticed that riots and protests now, are close to the riots and
protests back in the late 1700 s. For example, Now there are women s rights protests and african
american protests vs back then, when people were fighting for freedom. In the article The
Taxing King King George had this idea to teach the colonists a lesson. They levied taxes, and
didn t listen to the colonists complaints. The colonists got angry and retaliated with a war called
The War of Independence. Although this was different to the Revolutionary War, it was one of
the many events leading up to it. I am starting to think my book My Brother Sam is Dead , relates
to Beth s book Glory Field because In my book Mr. Meeker, Sam s dad, get shipped off on a boat to

Mohammed was a slave, he also got shipped on a different boat to America. I ve realized that both

Viktor and Rolf are an inseparable duo in the fashion world and I was in awe the moment I saw

information on them is in sync. When in Arnhem, The Netherlands in 1992 Viktor Horsting and
Rolf Snoeren graduated from ArtEZ institute and started their journey together(Heritage, 2015).
After graduating The duo worked hard to develop their first line that premiered in 1993 (Heritage,

Haute couture show in 1998 (Heritage, 2015).

The dutch men have collaborated with Loreal to create a scent for the brand labeled Flowerbomb.
Then also partnered with H M. The men have also created fashion eyewear and a shoe line. With
the build up of their brand the duo has recently announced some huge news.
Viktor and Rolf have recently announced that they will no longer continue in ready to wear and
strictly focus on haute couture. They state that ready to wear is creatively restricting (Socha,
M.,2015, February). The announcement happened after their most recent collection for fall/winter
2015/16. The show was breathtaking. Victor states that The idea was wearable art. now that we are
concentrating on couture we wanted to emphasize very literally how we have artistic roots and how
fashion can be art in our universe.
Viktor and Rolf have been very successful at creating a name for themselves. This success has led
to interest in there haute couture lines. Because of the major breakthroughs and innovative
collections the men will continue to grow. Their strong point is art and dropping their ready to
wear line will allow them to continue to push the boundaries in fashion, inspire, and awe crowds.
Viktor and Rolf have established a name and keep living up to their title. They only continue to
push and strive to invent new concepts. I expect Viktor and Rolf to define new terms for fashion
and art.
For my ready to wear designer I have chosen Elie Saab. I was drawn in by Saab s

The statistical reports of Iraq, show that the country is 438,466 square kilometers, but the United
States Department of State publication, says that the country is 434,964 square kilometers.
Geographers divide the country up into four main zones. The First zone, is the desert areas
which are located in the west and southwest of the Euphrates river. It s part of the Syrian desert,
which also covers parts of Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. The region, thinly dispersed by
pastoral nomads has a wide stony plain with rare sandy stretches. There is a very stretched out
form of wadis from the border to the Euphrates. Some of the valleys are up to 400 km long, and
during the winter rains, they carry brief but heavy floods. The second major zone, is the rolling

into Syria, between the two rivers and into Turkey. The irrigation in this region is much more

Barbie s Effect on America Most American girls can remember growing up with the blonde,
plastic, fashionable doll called Barbie. The first item to pop into people s heads, as they think of
the perfect Christmas or Hanukkah present is the Barbie doll. When it comes to racial acceptance
and body image, the doll is misleading. The Barbie doll taught children that blonde and white was
the ultimate key to beauty or fashion. This Barbie doll set unrealistic standards for girls of all
ages; with her curvy frame, perfect boyfriend, and her extravagant belongings she led girls to
believe that self image is more important than frivolous objects.

An Analysis Of Raymond Carver s Cathedral
A Cynics Enlightenment
Raymond Carver s short story Cathedral is outwardly about a pessimistic man, whose wife s blind
visitor named Robert changes the narrators predisposing perception of the world and awakes a new
view on life in the process. But inwardly, the story is about the desperate need for connection
between these three characters, which isn t feasible do to the emotional detachment by the narrator.
In the beginning, the narrator is hindered by his prejudices which doesn t allow him connect to
anything greater than himself. But with the help of the blind man who is able to see the greater
truth, since he s incapable of having his perception distorted based on outer appearance; allows
him to teach the narrator the difference between looking and seeing. Carver is proclaiming that
when we open ourselves to new ways of connecting with others, and new ways of viewing at the
world, we can have hugely rewarding experiences.
The Cathedral defines what it really means to be blind . First, being the blind man who literally
cannot see because he is disabled. And then what it means to be emotionally blind like the narrator.
The narrator possesses very shallow, ignorant, and careless qualities which then makes him form
harsh prejudices upon people. And that s the root to his blinders. And him having these prejudices
denies him of connecting with anyone or anything, then distancing him from the world. He
generalizes all of his opinions, making him believe if you ve seen

Women In Marji s Persepolis
Persepolis, a graphic novel enriched by the autobiographical narrative of Marjane Satrapi, covers
her coming of age in the politically unstable Iran in the 1980s. Specifically, the novel concerns
defining events in Marji s character development and in accordance, her ideological perspectives;
the Iranian Revolution followed by the rise to power of the fundamentalist Khomeini (1979), the
Iraqi Iranian War (1980), and personally, her uncle Anoosh s death. Moreover, Marji s contrasting
perceptions of her dynamic and arbitrary world as both as a child and an adolescent are strongly

First, Marji s mother is presented to the audience as a revolutionary as she participated in political
protests and her photo was published in all the European newsletters (Satrapi 15). Although Marji
describes her mother s actions in a proud register, her mother is scared of her individuality as
women are encouraged to follow specific norms, and in consequence, result looking and acting
similarly. This idea, in analysis, can be interpreted as an influence to Marji s developing identity
and her interaction with the world. Satrapi deploys visual rhetoric to convey meaning from her black
and white images of the women population, most significantly, when wearing the veil. For example,
Marji illustrates the veiled women in black to have similar properties as they are covered and only
their faces are apparent, in contrast to the protesting women in white that have different hair lengths
suggesting different identities (Satrapi 5). It can be analyzed that Satrapi s use of graphic weight in
contrast between the black veil and the white revolutionaries not only conveys Marji s internal
conflict, but also demonstrates her mother s influence in Marji s opinion on women; the
fundamentalist woman versus the modern woman (Satrapi

Body Shape Of Beauty
In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the
perfect body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only
about 5% of the American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not
randomly come up with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in
the standards set for women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some
other editing software to make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular
are unrealistic and are in turn making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards
need to be shattered because America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love
instead of self hate. The ideal body shapefor women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s,
being curvy and voluptuous was striven for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson
Girl body was all the rage. These women were the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using
corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was paired with a big bust to emphasize the
fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean figure with a short, bob haircut.
During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn Monroe was the most
iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller. However, these
times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and give her
longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s hit,
being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and
pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started
to be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly
plus sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight
as much as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also
gone through body shape trends. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, bigger was better. The
heavier a man was, the more attractive

He made a brilliant choice of founding store s location on the main road of the new town, opposite
the General Post Office. David Jones received support from not only the Sydney gentry, but also the
country settlers. Everyone gathered to the store to buy buckskins, ginghams, waistcoat fabrics, silks
and cotton tick .(Anon,2015)
David Jones s retirement brought difficulties in to the business and it made him come back to
business with another partner and his son Edward Lloyd Jones managed to recreate the store s
success. Edward Lloyd Jones had travelled widely overseas, and brought back to Sydney new ideas
in retailing, including the European concept of a department store.

Should The Fair Use Doctrine Must Be Won And Defended On...
According to Intellectual Property Quotes (n.d.), While American intellectual property deserves
protection, that protection must be won and defended in a manner that does not stifle innovation,
erode due process under the law, and weaken the protection of political and civil rights on the
Internet (Intellectual PropertyQuotes, n.d.). In this paper I will discuss the facts and legal reasoning
of this case, what the Fair UseDoctrine is, and will answer the following: why it is important to
protect intellectual property, why it is important for society to have access to intellectual property,
and whether the Fair Use Doctrine properly balances the rights of content producers against the
public good.
Facts and Legal Reasoning of This Case According to Gambino (2011, June 21), in a recent

cryonics is a belief that no one is really dead until the information content of the brain is lost, and
that low temperatures can prevent this loss. As of now there has been no information gathered to
conclude that the brain activity could be restored, but by preserving the patients in the freezing
temperatures they hope that future technology will be able to find a way. Some animals and other
types of science have made cryonics such a hopeful science. Nature gives scientists confirmation

Stuart Davis Research Paper
Stuart Davis was an American modernist painter born on December 7th, 1892 June 24, 1964. He
was well known for his Jazz influenced paintings and the two main mediums he used to create his
artworks were printing and painting. Davis was commonly known as the Father of pop art ,
frequently using contrasting vibrant, radiant colours, intricate and rugged shapes, and text in his
pieces to portray the Jazztheme. He adapted various techniques such as cubism and expressionismto
develop his own individual style. The genre of Davis work is abstraction, still life and landscape
all beautifully executed with a tongue in cheek sense of humour that some say was before his time.

However, by the time the Abstract Expressionists took the New York art world by storm in the
1950s, Davis art struggled to maintain its modernist edge. Another decade would pass before
Davis visionary presence would be cemented in art history. In the1960s, artists of the Pop Art
movement admired his attention to mass culture. Long before painters such as Andy Warhol
and Ed Ruscha, Davis was painting soap boxes, billboards and gas pumps with a tongue in cheek
wit that was ahead of his time. Most of Davis influences came from his surrounding American
urban environment in the 1920 s and 30 s, such as the commercial world of the US, neon signs,
jazz music, and the American nightlife. Not only this, but Davis was inspired by the American
language during the 1940 s and 50 s, using text which is portrayed in his compositions to
enhance the meaning of his artwork. Davis pushed the regular boundaries by using letters, words
and phrases in his paintings. There were many artists who influenced and inspired Davis to create
his own style such as the group called The Eight lead by Robert Henri (1864 1929). Henri
encourages modern American painters to go against the rules and be radical within their artworks.
Furthermore, Marsden Hartly (1877 1943) was another great influence of Davis , who painted The
German Flag series in 1914 presents a type of abstraction linked to cubism. Davis use of
complementary non figurative subject matter such as cigarette packages and the contemporary
American environment later influenced artists such as Andy Warhol (1928 1987), David Hockney

Sustainable Construction Of Sustainable Building
Sustainable building
Introduction
As concerns of climate change and global warming rises, reducing the impact on environment and
human health have became the priorities to consider before the construction of buildings.
Therefore, the concept of sustainable building (also known as green building, green
construction)was brought up, aiming to create structures which is environmentally responsible and
source efficient during its lifespan. [1] Compared to conventional buildings, sustainable buildings
are advantageous from many aspects, such as durability, comfort, security, productivity and
economy.
During the construction of sustainable building, the use of renewable energy can be a significant
issue. Compared to conventional energy, renewable energy can benefit from many aspects.
By utilization of renewable energy , more nature resources can be conserved and restored, such as
solar power, wind ,biomass, etc. The renewable generate much less or even no pollution to the
nature environment. For example, a solar powered air conditioning system generate no HCFCs,
CFs released by conventional air conditioning, causing depletion to ozone layer. Due to less energy
consumed, the operating cost can be reduced efficiently. Furthermore, occupant comfort and health
will be improved with a green and livable living/working place.
In next section, a building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) would be introduced systematically,
which make a good utilization of solar power in sustainable

Dependent Personality Disorder Research Paper
Dependent Personality Disorder
And How it can Affect your Daily Life
Everyone has personality traits. Some people are shy while others are outgoing and some people
are optimistic and some are pessimistic. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a
personality trait and a disorder. Personality disorders are diagnosed when ways of seeing,
interpreting, or behaving in the world become inflexible and maladaptive. A personality disorder
causes distress to self or others. A personwith a personality disorder has trouble perceiving and
relating to situations and to people. This causes significant problems and limitations in
relationships, social encounters, work and school (Personality 2015).

Cluster A personality disorders are characterized by odd, eccentric thinking or behavior. Paranoid
personality disorder would fit under Cluster A. Cluster B is the wild cluster. People with these
disorders have very dramatic, emotional or erratic behaviors. Cluster C personality disorders are
characterized by anxious, fearful thinking or behavior. This cluster includes dependent personality
disorder (Personality 2015).
Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is one of the most commonly diagnosed personality
disorders. The terrifying fear of being left alone and being abandoned are both signs of DPD.
When faced with this disorder you really cling to other people, usually a significant other. You get
self satisfaction by being wanted by another person. Fourteen percent of people with personality
disorders are diagnosed with DPD (Ekern 2013).
The causes of dependent personality disorder to this day are unknown. Both biological and
developmental factors are most likely involved (Dependent 2015). There are multiple speculations
as to why people obtain this disorder like overprotective parenting. Also, one s social environment
can play a role in DPD. In all most all cases the patient experiencing DPD has faced some sort of
abuse or trauma, making them stick to another person (Ekern

The Importance Of Intervention From The Arctic Council
The Arctic contributes a distinctive region which combines a unique biosphere and a wealth of
natural resources, which often become a source of controversy. This paper will argue that the
significant climate changes which are taking place in the Arctic Region open new pathways for
economic opportunism for Russia, which calls for radical intervention from the ArcticCouncil.
Firstly, this case study will give a framework of the main theory which will be used throughout in
order to justify the importance of intervention from the Arctic Council. The main theorist used is
Oran Young, who provides an agenda in how institutions such as the Arctic Council should function
effectively in the Arctic. Moreover, the climate changes which are taking... Show more content on

Furthermore, through institutionalism, one can understand that the lack of intervention from non
state actors contributes to this idea of economic logic over environmental sustainability. Arguably
based on institutionalism the European actors in the Arctic, which are familiar with intervention
from institutions, are influenced for instance by UNEP when it comes in to make a decision in the
specific area. Consequently, this is helpful to understand why a state such as Russia is more
economically and military antagonistic and less prone to cooperate with the other seven states of
the area over the natural resources in the Arctic.
Institutionalism is a theory which bases its principles of the idea that there is a need for stronger
global institutions and norms as well as sufficient state and local capacity to constrain and direct the
global political economy (Clapp and Dauvergne, 2011, 7). More specifically, the ideas of
institutionalism do not set aside ideas such as global economic growth and foreign investment in
areas of extreme wealth in natural resources such as the Arctic. Nonetheless, they simultaneously
underline the importance of environmental sustainability which is succeeded through the setting of
institutional norms which will channel a better environmental management in addition to
sustainable growth. As mentioned in the work of Oran Young, a political scientist

In case of goods which were earlier imported on payment of duty and are later sought to be re

certain cut can be claimed as duty drawback by the exporter at the time of export of such goods.
Such duty drawback is granted in terms of Section 74 of the Customs Act, 1962 read with Re

released into our air when warmed up. Many landfills exist in third worldcountries, meaning that
billions of tonnes of electronic waste each year are sent to these countries. The toxins contained

Compressions In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales to communicate moral lessons of his time that still
influence society today. The Canterbury Tales is a story of a pilgrimage of twenty nine characters
to the Canterbury Cathedral. On the way, each character had to tell two tales as well as two on the
way home. These tales provided entertainment for the characters on their trip. The tales are told by
the narrator, and his viewpoints on the characters reflect Chaucer s opinions towards the characters.
The tales that each character tells are each unique to each person, but through analyzing them
further it is seen that the tales share many similarities. In both tales, the main character has a
different outer impression which hides the Pardoner s and the Wife of Bath s true inner
characteristics from society. Chaucer reveals their inner characteristics through the characters tales
and how they present them. In the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer conveys a theme that although
individuals set first impressions based on appearance, the reality of their true character is often
masked by how they appear.
The general and character prologue in The Canterbury Tales gives initial physical descriptions of
the Wife of Bath and the Pardoner which helps reinforce the theme that appearance often masks
reality. In the general prologue of the Wife of Bath, she is described at first as somdel deef which
gives her a negative outer appearance which follows her throughout her description as an attractive

His character was determined to help these people understand the ways of God and to lead them
to heaven. His objectives came out when the script would pull lines from the Bible. However,
they would be hidden when he too would be an actor of the parables. This is to be expected as
his character is then not meant to draw away from the story itself. His objective is cliche only
from the standpoint of he is a teacher so obviously his objective is to teach and reach out to the
lives of others. There is not a way to break that however because he is Jesus, and that is what his
purpose actually was while he was on earth. His actions would always keep the other characters
in check. As if he was a teacher keeping his class in check. Ultimately the character gives himself

Regional Differences Between The New England And The...
Although New England, primarily Massachusetts, and the Chesapeake, primarily Virginia, were
both settled largely by people of English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct
societies. This difference in development occurred for the following three reasons: the geography,
purpose of both colonies, and the priorities.
The geography of each region was vastly different. In the New England colonies, the rocky
landscape resulted in a short growing season. This contributed to a rise in use of abundant natural
resources, such as lumber, which made a successful ship building industry. On the other hand, in
the Chesapeake region, rich farmland and forests provided colonists with perfect harvest
conditions. In 1673, Governor Berkeley confirmed Virginia was intersected with many vast rivers
as seen in Doc. G, demonstrating their rich soil. The geography of the Chesapeake area was more ...

The New England colonies were mainly founded for spiritual purposes. Massachusetts was
established by Reformist Puritans in search for religious freedom. Their motives were religious,

colony intended to appoint a minister. This objective was first on a list of agreements made by
the colonists, being the most important. Although religion was the main reason for this region s
founding, the Chesapeake Bay area had different motives. Their settlers hoped to find gold or at
least make a profit in some way. The area was very industry based, as shown in their use of
indentured servants, slaves, and harvest of the cash crop, tobacco. Doc. F, written in 1624 by John

Tattoos And Its Impact On Society
Having a moral acceptance toward others is an important aspect in sustaining a happy and
fulfilled life, but maybe some things that are quite visible can be hard to look past. Tattoos are
one of the most controversial topics when it comes to professionalism mixing with open
mindedness. People all across the world have tattoos and are now seen in everyday society. Tattoos
have also gone back thousands of years and in some cultures were celebrated, or shown for cultural
reasons. Furthermore, the U.S. militaryis now integrating new policies on tattoos, ensuring the
domestication, and acceptance of tattoos. Effects of tattoos on modern day society have had a
definite impact. Not all people are aware, or tolerant of these new and upcoming... Show more

Many stereotypes have latched onto the art form to make these appear negative, making it hard for
some people finding a job in certain expertise.
Despite tattoos becoming more accepted and mainstream in society, studies show that individuals
with visible tattoos are often hired at a lower rate than people without visible tattoos. A survey of
current undergraduate students reveals that students today are well aware that having a tattoo may
adversely impact their chances of being hired, but regardless of that knowledge almost half is still
considering getting tattooed. (Foltz, 2014).
Although, due to the effects tattoos have made on society, many jobs and businesses have become
open minded to these stereotypes that remain constant. Tattoos won t be fully accepted by everyone
in society, but with increasing the popularity, society is getting more used to seeing them as another
form of art and self expression.
In terms of tattoos on actual bodies, the earliest known examples were for a long time Egyptian
and were present on several female mummies dated to c. 2000 B.C. But following the more recent
discovery of the Iceman from the area of the Italian Austrian border in 1991 and his tattoo patterns,
this date has been pushed back a further thousand years when he was carbon dated at around 5,200
years

The Importance Of SIDS
According to a 2013 article in Pediatric Health Medicine, and Therapeutics, by Dr. Tara Ramirez
and Dr. Micheal Malloy, when SIDS was first defined, it was used as a catch all for any
unexplainable infant deaths. As the medical field advanced and more research was conducted
lots of deaths where able to be diagnosed as infection, trauma, or connected to conditions related
to the heart, lungs, or central nervous system. .As studies have been conducted to try and find
the cause it has been determined that SIDS isn t any one illness or disease. Instead it s the
diagnosis given when a child under a year old dies suddenly and an exact cause can t be found
after an investigation of the death scene, autopsy, and a review of the child s medical history have
been conducted. What makes so devastating for families is that it happens without warning, and

It has been found that any sleep position besides supine (on the back) increases the chances of
SIDS, whether it is on the stomach or on the side. (Oyen, 614) The rate of deaths from SIDS has
dropped about 50 percent since 1994, this is when the National Institute of Child Health and
Human Development and associated groups started the Back to Sleep campaign. A baby s risk
of SIDS has been found to be 1.7 to 12.9 times higher if a baby sleeps on their stomach instead of
their back. When a baby sleeps stomach down, their more likely to overheat, have inconsistency
in breathing, and rebreathe the air they have just exhaled, that lacks oxygen. Placing a baby to
sleep on their side is a bad idea also, since babies placed on their side can easily end up on their
stomach. By the time a baby is 6 months old they are able to roll themselves over, at this age
their risk for SIDS has begun to drop. Though it is recommended to do your best to get them
settled on their back, don t worry if the baby rolls

The Importance Of National Honor Society
The first idea I believe National Honor Society should participate in is hosting a Memorial Day
celebration for the families in our community that have lost loved ones due to serving our
country. I think this would be amazing because it would give the people in our community a
sense that they are not alone and introduce them to people that they can lean on. At this event, we
could have food/treats and potentially an open microphone where people would be able to share
the story of their loved one(s). This could then become a yearly event that people look forward to
because it would be a celebration of life. I realize this could turn into a huge event because there
are many people that could possibly attend but we could keep that under control

Romeo And Juliet Dialectical Journal
Creative Title
Imagine if you were walking down the aisle on your wedding day which is meant to be the best
day ever, but the person at the end is a stranger. How would you like if the day you have been
waiting all your life is just practically handed to you and isn t even what you wanted or who you
wanted to be with. Well, this is actually how some people s lives happen for them. Such as they
have no say in who they marry because their parents are in control of it all. In Romeo and Juliet
this is the same situation that Juliet and Paris went through in the story. Like how Juliet s parents
wanted her to marry Paris at the age of fourteen. Juliet s family was for arranging marriage since
they were arranged when they got married, but on the other hand Juliet was very against the
whole idea of marrying at fourteen, especially since she was very in love with Romeo even though
their two families hated each other. This caused a lot of problems with Juliet s family and that she

This is a big deal when things are arranged for people even though some people don t see it. For
example, Tim Arango stated, I tried to kill myself, she said. I did not want to get married. I was
forced to get engaged (Arango). This is showing how the amount of stress put on people can
have severe endings leading to death. In like manner Arango also stated that, Officials are
alarmed by what they described as a worsening epidemic of suicides, particularly among young
women tormented by being forced to marry to young, to someone they do not love . So even
though some people do realize the amount of stress put on people it is still necessary that
everyone needs to realize what could happen if you force something to happen when it s not meant
to be. It s clear now that if you are doing this to someone that you could have more severe things

Wilfred Owen Techniques
Wilfred Owens war poetry
Good morning/afternoon teacher and peers,
Wilfred Owen was born in 1893 in Oswestry (United Kingdom). He wanted to be a poet from the
age of nineteen although most of his famous work is that which he wrote in his years spent in the
war where he died in 1918.
The preface to Owens poetry read:
This book is not about heroes. English poetry is not yet fit to speak of them.
Nor is it about deeds, or lands, nor anything about glory, honour, might, majesty, dominion, or
power, except war.
Above all I am not concerned with Poetry.
My subject is war, and the pity of war.
The poetry is in the pity.

Figurative language, as with most poetry, is readily used in much of Owens work because it helps
to create tone and communicate emotion effectively. Let s take a look at the poem mental cases
for a few examples of figurative language. Metaphor, misery swelters surely we have perished.
Simile, bearing teeth that leer like skulls teeth wicked? And also the poem disabled where we see
an example of personification in the line that speaks of how the town used to swing so gay.
Symbolism when it tells of the disabled man wearing his ghastly suit of gray, the gray symbolises
the dullness and shadows that now hang over him.
We often see the use of oxymoron s and paradox when something is being contrasted within a
poem such as a line from the poem dulce et decorum est, gas! GAS! Quick boys! An ecstasy of
fumbling which is used to describe the controlled panic which quickly increases as the men
fumble to put on thier gas masks. A good example of a paradox also from this poem is the line that
Owen writes the devil, sick of sick this is a paradox because the devil is a personification of sin,
this is just another way he portrays how horrific war is.
Rhetorical features are used by Wilfred Owen as it heightens the effect of the language, to create a
more persuasive effect.
Repetition is often used weather this be to make the poem sound monotonous when read such

Psychoactive Drugs
Psychoactive Drugs are chemical substances that alter behavior, mood, perception, or mental
functioning. Through the consumption of substances many cultures have found ways to alter
consciousness.
Psychoactive substances apply their effects by transforming biochemical or physiological processes
in the brain. The message system of nerve cells, or neurons, relies on both electrical and chemical
transmission. Neurons rarely touch each other; there is a microscopic gap between one neuron and
the next, called the synapse. When a neuron fires, it releases chemicals called neurotransmitters into
the synapse. Psychoactive drugs act by altering neurotransmitter function, they bind to the site of
the firing neuron and inhibit this process so the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When Looking At A Primary Source, The Analyzer Must Take
When looking at a primary source, the analyzer must take into consideration several components
that can help him or her narrow down their inferences about the source. The first thing to analyze in
depth is the Authorship. This means to look specifically at the topics addressed and the natural
biases that are relevant in the work. The tone in the subject matteris also important to see how
strongly the source may show content or resent towards a specific topic. Even certain writing
styles can help decipher an era, culture or even an individual. The specific word syntax leads to
how an analyzer would discover the purpose or rationale for the primary source. Purpose and
rationale are huge parts of understanding a source and the time period... Show more content on

Naturally there is a desire to find out which religion. Now previously there are references to God
and Christ, so the author must be some denomination of Catholicism but in the fourth article the
author says rights should be exercised in a Christian and brotherly fashion . The author is very
religious and now there is clear evidence that he is a Christian. This along with all of the authors
religious vocabulary helps define the author as a very religious human. The author uses the nature
of religion to mediate the issue at hand. The issue is not religion because in the third article the
author exclaims Christ has delivered and redeemed us all . Although religion is strongly talked
about it is not the dissenting issue because the author sees that who the author is dissenting from
is still the son of the same God. The issue lies in a power struggle, mainly an economic one. In the
same article the author says it is consistent with Scripture that we should be free and wish to be so.
Not that we would wish to be absolutely free and under no authority . The Author is using religion
to back the ideology of freedom. The Author clearly is talking about authority overstepping its
boundaries. The author constantly uses the term poor man and when to referring to the poor man

Napoleon s Control Over Europe s Territory
Napoleon s Control Over Europe s Territory
Napoleon Bonaparte will remain in the heart of many French nationals as one of the greatest
military leaders that the nation has had when it comes to warfare history. In 1799, Napoleon
launched a series of wars, which historians call, Napoleonic Wars in a bid to extend the territory of
France in Europe. Many historians argue that the Napoleonic Warswere a continuation of the French
Revolution in 1789. The revolution brought with it many changes, especially in the production of
modern mass weapons. Napoleon s success came from his ideas of freeing Europe, massive army
and leadership abilities.
Napoleon, Corsican aristocrat, who was a minor, rose to the position of emperor in France because

These two battles indicated the strategic nature of Napoleon, as well as the supremacy of the
French military in Europe. They were the turning point of his quest to dominate Europe and
increase French territory. Napoleon s success was because of several factors from his military wit
to the incompetent nature of his enemies in Europe.
When Napoleon rose to the position of an emperor, he became the head of a huge army battalion
set up by his previous predecessor. The French army was a conglomeration of loyal citizens who
were aware of the cause for their engagement in warfare. They were doing the fighting out of free
will and did not act as mercenaries as was the case in the larger parts of Europe. Napoleon
impressed on them that they were fighting to protect the gains of their industrial revolution, which
was under threat from the outside enemies, and it was a matter of patriotism rather than
advancing the ideals of Napoleon as an individual. Napoleon used his wits to create the
revolution ardor among those in the military. According to those in the army, the only way to
express the ardor was to engage in battles making Napoleon succeed in his quest to gain more
territories in Europe (Gershoy 67). It was a vital reason for the success of Napoleon, as many of
his enemies did not fight to annihilate success

Everyman Morality
Everyman is a medieval morality play that depicts the events preceding the death and ascension
into heaven of an individual named Everyman , in allegorical fashion. Ambling along a road,
Everyman is approached unexpectedly by Death who comes to fulfill the wishes of God and bring
Everyman to eternal judgment. Everyman then proceeds to implore Death for more time on Earth,
but is only effective in gaining permission to get his affairs in order. After unsuccessfully pleading
with his Good deeds to accompany him to the presence of God, Everyman arrives at the realization
with the aid of Knowledge that he must confess his sins and ask God for forgiveness to be
accepted into heaven. Everyman, as a work, teaches the reader that death is inevitable,... Show more

When Everyman meets with Death while walking on the road, Death introduces himself by
stating, I am Death, that no man dreadeth (does not discriminate). For every man I rest (arrest)
and no man spareth. For it is God s commandment that all to me should be obedient. This is
indeed true, as all, regardless of title or economic status, will one day meet death and face the
Eternal Judge, God. Furthermore, Everyman teaches that one must prepare for death. When
Everyman is made aware of Death s purpose towards him, he states, O Death, thou comest when I
had thee least in mind. Clearly, Everyman was not prepared Death states in the beginning of the
work: Lo, yonder I see Everyman walking: full little he thinketh on my coming. For those who
are not prepared when death does come, the eternal consequences are severe. Third, Everyman
teaches that salvation is gained by good works, which when compared to what the Word of God
states, is a fallacy. When allowed by Death to get his affairs in order, Everyman first goes to his
Good deeds to help him, but she cannot because she is weighed down by his sins. After
Everyman confesses his sins and repents, his Good deeds accompany him to heaven, and
Knowledge states, The Good deeds shall make all sure. Biblically, this is incorrect as Romans
10:9 declares, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God

Solidarity In The Film It s A Wonderful Life

helped a lot of people and saved some to, he always put others before himself. I personally think
George did live a life of solidarity for all the people he s helped and saved when he was growing up,
when he took over his dad s company named the bailey building and loan company which built
houses and gave loans to people rejected by the bank, and after he married Marry and had kids....

  • 2. The Problems And Challenges Of Performance Management Part 3 Empirical chapter Discussion of the Problems and Challenges of performance management Performance management mostly is not successful as expected in the public sector. According to Her Majesty s Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland (2005) a thematic inspection of performance management noted that though performance management was substantially developed , a long way is still needed to go before everyone was responsible for providing a good service and many areas of performance management in the early stages of implementation existed as well . There are many implementation reasons causing these problems, for instance, the reduction of government spending (Gianakis, 2002), or purely a tool for management rather than a tool for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Technical problems refers to the indicators and the data, information collection, interpretation and analysis. They are preponderantly difficult problems (Pollanen, 2005; Adcroft and Willis, 2005) and especially in terms of data quality (Black et al., 2001), the choice of indicators (Black et al., 2001; Bevan and Hood, 2006; Carvalho et al., 2006), validation (Evans, 2004; Carlin, 2004), reporting (Pollanen, 2005; Adcroft and Willis, 2005) and usage and interpretation (Neely et al., 1995; Wilcox and Bourne, 2003). Nevertheless, organisations are focusing on improving the technical problems of their indicators (Pollitt, 2005). Secondly, systems problems are related to the bigger picture issues, i.e. integrating performance systems into the original systems (Gianakis, 2002), a lack of strategic view which encourages short term thinking (Neely et al., 1995), the ambiguity of performance objectives (Pollanen, 2005), sub optimisation (Neely et al., 1995; Pollitt, 2000; Gianakis, 2002; Adcroft and Willis, 2005) and the cost of performance management (Train and Williams, 2000; Holzer and Yang, 2004; Pollanen, 2005). The third kind of problem are the significant people issues and their involvement inside the PM system among inter multiple stakeholders (Black et al., 2001; Wang and Berman, 2001; Gianakis, 2002; McAdam et al., 2005). These issues can be caused by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Philip K. Dick And The Minority Report By George Orwell We can t be confined to one way of thinking, and that terrifies our leaders. It means we can t be controlled. Veronica Roth. Various representations of the future are envisioned by many, most of which present a dystopia rather than a utopia. This is due to the advancements being made by the modern world that raise concerns about security and especially privacy, leading text makers to predict the worst. The issue is discussed in the texts The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick (1956), Steven Spielberg s Minority Report (2002) and George Orwell s 1984 (1949). Through elements such as surveillance, technology and excessive government control, Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and George Orwell create a bleak and dystopic vision of the future. Through falsely accusing innocent people and heavy control, a near dystopic future is exemplified in the novella, The Minority Report (TMR) by Philip K. Dick. The story is based on pre crime which is foreseen by three precognitives which result in a supposedly crime free society. However, it only becomes an illusion of peace by essentially taking in individuals who have broken no law, (pg. 72.) therefore there s a moral dilemma for the accused are being imprisoned based on the majority report. The report is an accumulation of the two most similar reports from the three precogs as mentioned by Dick, the existence of a majority logically implies a corresponding minority (pg. 84). This means that the chance of the third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay About Summer Camp Summer Camp It was summer of 2013 and it was my first time traveling alone. I was going to ChampГ©ry, Switzerland. I felt excited because it s a part of the world which I haven t visited before. Going to the airport by myself and going through customs was a bit of a hassle, but nothing I can t handle. When I arrived at ChampГ©ry by train, I had to walk to the camp which not that far Just a 10 minute walk. As I walked to there the scenery was breathtaking. It was so green and surrounded with mountains where you can see white peaks because of the snow. You can see the cows wandering around on the hills and hear their jiggling bells. As I reached the camp, the manager was there greeting the new arrivals and the place we were staying at was this big 4 floor wooden house. The staff there were so friendly and welcoming. Everyone there was from different parts of the world. In the first day, they gave us a chance to go around and socialize and get familiar with the place because it ll be my home for the next 5 weeks. At first it was hard to communicate to people there because we all speak different languages, but we all know to talk English which was a life saver. When I started to walk around and get to know people there and I was surprised on how diverse the camp was, there were Spanish, Portuguese Russians, and English and many more. When ... • 5. My Journey Of My Career Development Miranda Kilmer Integration Paper My journey to my career development has been a roller coaster ride to say the least. Everything I ve learned in this class and throughout the years has shaped me into who I am and has played a major role in my career decision making process. Ever since I was little I was always interested in acting and had dreamed of being in movies. Many kids probably had a similar dream, but for some reason I had a strong desire to follow through with it. Whenever I watched a movie I would always catch myself saying the lines along with the characters, and changing my voice to fit each role. No one ever really knew that this was something I was interested in because I never admitted to it. I never told anybody because every time I would bring it up, everyone seemed to have the same opinion about it. They say that being an actor is not a reliable career and that being successful in that industry is a long shot. As I got older I started to agree with them. I pushed aside my dream of becoming an actress and decided to focus on more reliable career choices like lawyers, teachers, doctors, etc... When I tried to find interest in these jobs, it always failed. They just didn t fit my personality and after taking this class I learned why. This class has really helped me develop a sense of myself. I learned a lot about myself with the help of the self assessment inventories, journal entries, values ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Forensic Evidence Regarding Air Indiaflight 182 THE FORENSIC EVIDENCE CONCERNING AIR INDIAFLIGHT 182 Background The in flight disintegration of the Kanishka, most of the aircraft came to rest on the ocean floor almost 7,000 feet below the surface. During the accident investigation that followed, the submerged wreckage was surveyed, photographed, videotaped and pieces were recovered off the ocean floor. Floating wreckage was also recovered and examined. Each piece was given a unique number called target . Target means that specific parts of planes were to be destroyed. The underwater images of many of the unrecovered targets were converted into computer aided design ( CAD ) images, which in turn were used to simulate certain important targets from the aft fuselage of the aircraft. Under the supervision of the RCMP, these simulated targets were assembled with the actual recovered wreckage in a partial reconstruction of the Kanishka at a warehouse in the Lower Mainland as an aid to understanding the technical expert evidence regarding the destruction of the aircraft. Experts presented portions of their evidence at this warehouse during the trial and referred extensively to the reconstruction in demonstrating their respective theories. The significance of this expert evidence lies primarily in their differing opinions regarding the location of the bomb that precipitated the destruction of the Kanishka. The Crown theory, supported by the opinion evidence of Professor Christopher Peel, is that it was located in Baggage Area 52, which contained the M. Singh bag. The defence theory, supported by the opinion evidence of Dr. Edward Trimble and Mr. Frank Taylor, is that it was located some five feet forward of that location in Baggage Area 51, containing luggage checked in at Toronto. A conclusion that the defence evidence raises a reasonable doubt with respect to the Crown s bomb location would fundamentally undermine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Examples Of Inhumanity In Tuesdays With Morrie Where would the world be without humanity? Would it be laying in ruins because of needless wars fought? Perhaps there would be a so called master race that exterminated any person that slightly deviated from what was deemed perfect. Maybe there would be no more humans left at all. Humanity binds the humanrace together. The caring for other people and not just thinking about yourself. The word is humanity, and the root of that is human. This concept is central to all our beliefs. Just like a coin though, there is a flip side. Inhumanity, when humansdo not act like regular humans. To be described as inhuman a person has to be extremely nefarious. These people that commit inhuman acts upon others are treated as monsters, and by all rights are monsters. Both of the books we read this semester dealt with humanity and inhumanity. Although one book clearly had a lot more inhumanity in it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An old friend of the main character was dying. Morrie has ALS, it is a crippling disease that affects the nervous system. Mitch is very upset about Morrie dieing. Morrie taught Mitch a lot about life and humanity. Morrie taught Mitch how to feel, and hot to deal with emotions. Even though Morrie is dying slowly and painfully, Morrie is staying positive. On one occasion Morrie tells Mitch that in the mornings is when Morrie mourns. Morrie mourns the insidious disease and mourns what is lost. After that Morrie cries if needed, and thinks about all the good things still left in life(Albom 57). This is exactly how to balance inhumanity and humanity. People must always look at the good in every situation. In Night the characters tried to stay positive just as Morrie is trying to. Morrie once said, make peace with living (173). • 8. The American Dream By James Madison Parth Patel Honors English III 2nd Hour 4/27/16 James Madison stated That part of America which had encouraged them most had advanced most rapidly in population, agriculture and the art. This means that if our American goal is to do something, we will not only do that task, we will be the best in the world at it. Also we went out west because we were encouraged to go west, not that we had to.This represents the path we took to settle the west. We went out west first to get the gold and then we would build railroad and then cities would emerge. The American dream is always changing for different people in different times. The American dream during this time period was to get control of all the land out west and unite it. We would be settling the west for many years but it shows our American Dream in settling the west was to make the west advanced as the east. People who moved and settled western lands were motivated to do so for the many reasons. Many people believed that you go west to get a new and better life. The west was filled with opportunities like the abundance of land. This land was sold cheap to farmers who would take care for it and a positive was that no one farmed and used up all the nutrients in the soil. There was also opportunities to hunt for buffalo and make money by selling the hide and meat. With the demand on meat in the growing eastern cities, people also moved west to raise cattle. With the declining rates of the buffalo it would free up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But with the help of the blind man who is able to see the greater truth, since he s incapable of having his perception distorted based on outer appearance; allows him to teach the narrator the difference between looking and seeing. Carver is proclaiming that when we open ourselves to new ways of connecting with others, and new ways of viewing at the world, we can have hugely rewarding experiences. The Cathedral defines what it really means to be blind . First, being the blind man who literally cannot see because he is disabled. And then what it means to be emotionally blind like the narrator. The narrator possesses very shallow, ignorant, and careless qualities which then makes him form harsh prejudices upon people. And that s the root to his blinders. • 16. Body Shape Of Beauty In America, beauty has high, superficial standards. Women are especially expected to have the perfect body shape: tall and thin with a small waist, big breasts, and a big butt. In reality, only about 5% of the American population has the ideal body shape (CITE). However, women do not randomly come up with these issues of their bodies out of the blue. Media plays a large role in the standards set for women. Magazines, television, and social media all use Photoshop or some other editing software to make women look perfect . The standards set for women in particular are unrealistic and are in turn making young girls have serious self esteem issues. These standards need to be shattered because America needs to embrace all body shapes and promote self love instead of self hate. The ideal body shapefor women has changed over the years. Until the 1900s, being curvy and voluptuous was striven for. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, the Gibson Girl body was all the rage. These women were the ones that started the tiny waist trend, using corsets to tighten their stomachs. The tiny waist was paired with a big bust to emphasize the fragile, but curvy body. The 1920s went for more of a lean figure with a short, bob haircut. During the 40s and 50s, pin up models became very popular. Marilyn Monroe was the most iconic female of this time. Her body was nowhere near perfect and was fuller. However, these times were much like the times now, except that artists would draw the model and give her longer legs, a bigger bust, etc. Today, we have photoshop to do that for us. Once the 1960s hit, being thin started trending. Twiggy was the style icon of the decade, with her twig thin body and pixie cut hair. This is still a big trend today. However in recent years, plus size women have started to be more accepted. With that being said, the plus size women that magazines show are not truly plus sized, but just a bit larger than the super skinny models. Although men are not in the limelight as much as women are, they still have undergone changing beauty standards as well. Men have also gone through body shape trends. During the late 1800s to early 1900s, bigger was better. The heavier a man was, the more attractive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Long before painters such as Andy Warhol and Ed Ruscha, Davis was painting soap boxes, billboards and gas pumps with a tongue in cheek wit that was ahead of his time. Most of Davis influences came from his surrounding American urban environment in the 1920 s and 30 s, such as the commercial world of the US, neon signs, jazz music, and the American nightlife. Not only this, but Davis was inspired by the American language during the 1940 s and 50 s, using text which is portrayed in his compositions to enhance the meaning of his artwork. Davis pushed the regular boundaries by using letters, words and phrases in his paintings. There were many artists who influenced and inspired Davis to create his own style such as the group called The Eight lead by Robert Henri (1864 1929). Henri encourages modern American painters to go against the rules and be radical within their artworks. Consequently, this is helpful to understand why a state such as Russia is more economically and military antagonistic and less prone to cooperate with the other seven states of the area over the natural resources in the Arctic. • 31. Compressions In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales to communicate moral lessons of his time that still influence society today. The Canterbury Tales is a story of a pilgrimage of twenty nine characters to the Canterbury Cathedral. On the way, each character had to tell two tales as well as two on the way home. These tales provided entertainment for the characters on their trip. The tales are told by the narrator, and his viewpoints on the characters reflect Chaucer s opinions towards the characters. The tales that each character tells are each unique to each person, but through analyzing them further it is seen that the tales share many similarities. In both tales, the main character has a different outer impression which hides the Pardoner s and the Wife of Bath s true inner characteristics from society. Chaucer reveals their inner characteristics through the characters tales and how they present them. In the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer conveys a theme that although individuals set first impressions based on appearance, the reality of their true character is often masked by how they appear. The general and character prologue in The Canterbury Tales gives initial physical descriptions of the Wife of Bath and the Pardoner which helps reinforce the theme that appearance often masks reality. In the general prologue of the Wife of Bath, she is described at first as somdel deef which gives her a negative outer appearance which follows her throughout her description as an attractive and ... His character was determined to help these people understand the ways of God and to lead them to heaven. His objectives came out when the script would pull lines from the Bible. However, they would be hidden when he too would be an actor of the parables. This is to be expected as his character is then not meant to draw away from the story itself. His objective is cliche only from the standpoint of he is a teacher so obviously his objective is to teach and reach out to the lives of others. There is not a way to break that however because he is Jesus, and that is what his purpose actually was while he was on earth. His actions would always keep the other characters in check. As if he was a teacher keeping his class in check. Ultimately the character gives himself up as a sacrifice and dies. However the actions of this show portray it that he accepts that he is going to be killed and there isn t anything he can do about it. There is no clear actions that gives the audience faith that he could actually stop this from happening to himself. The entire cast has a strong chemistry. Although New England, primarily Massachusetts, and the Chesapeake, primarily Virginia, were both settled largely by people of English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. This difference in development occurred for the following three reasons: the geography, purpose of both colonies, and the priorities. The geography of each region was vastly different. In the New England colonies, the rocky landscape resulted in a short growing season. This contributed to a rise in use of abundant natural resources, such as lumber, which made a successful ship building industry. In 1799, Napoleon launched a series of wars, which historians call, Napoleonic Wars in a bid to extend the territory of France in Europe. Many historians argue that the Napoleonic Warswere a continuation of the French Revolution in 1789. The revolution brought with it many changes, especially in the production of modern mass weapons. They were the turning point of his quest to dominate Europe and increase French territory. Napoleon s success was because of several factors from his military wit to the incompetent nature of his enemies in Europe. When Napoleon rose to the position of an emperor, he became the head of a huge army battalion set up by his previous predecessor. The French army was a conglomeration of loyal citizens who were aware of the cause for their engagement in warfare. They were doing the fighting out of free will and did not act as mercenaries as was the case in the larger parts of Europe. Napoleon impressed on them that they were fighting to protect the gains of their industrial revolution, which was under threat from the outside enemies, and it was a matter of patriotism rather than advancing the ideals of Napoleon as an individual. Napoleon used his wits to create the revolution ardor among those in the military. According to those in the army, the only way to express the ardor was to engage in battles making Napoleon succeed in his quest to gain more territories in Europe (Gershoy 67). It was a vital reason for the success of Napoleon, as many of his enemies did not fight to annihilate success ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Everyman Morality Everyman is a medieval morality play that depicts the events preceding the death and ascension into heaven of an individual named Everyman , in allegorical fashion. Ambling along a road, Everyman is approached unexpectedly by Death who comes to fulfill the wishes of God and bring Everyman to eternal judgment. Everyman then proceeds to implore Death for more time on Earth, but is only effective in gaining permission to get his affairs in order. After unsuccessfully pleading with his Good deeds to accompany him to the presence of God, Everyman arrives at the realization with the aid of Knowledge that he must confess his sins and ask God for forgiveness to be accepted into heaven. Everyman, as a work, teaches the reader that death is inevitable,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Everyman meets with Death while walking on the road, Death introduces himself by stating, I am Death, that no man dreadeth (does not discriminate). For every man I rest (arrest) and no man spareth. For it is God s commandment that all to me should be obedient. This is indeed true, as all, regardless of title or economic status, will one day meet death and face the Eternal Judge, God. Furthermore, Everyman teaches that one must prepare for death. When Everyman is made aware of Death s purpose towards him, he states, O Death, thou comest when I had thee least in mind. Clearly, Everyman was not prepared Death states in the beginning of the work: Lo, yonder I see Everyman walking: full little he thinketh on my coming. For those who are not prepared when death does come, the eternal consequences are severe. Third, Everyman teaches that salvation is gained by good works, which when compared to what the Word of God states, is a fallacy. When allowed by Death to get his affairs in order, Everyman first goes to his Good deeds to help him, but she cannot because she is weighed down by his sins. After Everyman confesses his sins and repents, his Good deeds accompany him to heaven, and Knowledge states, The Good deeds shall make all sure. Biblically, this is incorrect as Romans 10:9 declares, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
