This document summarizes a case study of implementing a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) at an Italian wire plant owned by an English group. The MES project involved installing hardware to automatically collect shop floor data and connect plant equipment to a computer network. This provided real-time visibility of key performance indicators. It improved overall equipment effectiveness from 54% to 85%, increased capacity by 160 tons per month without new investment, reduced scrap from 4% to 1.5%, and increased annual turnover by €320,000. The MES implementation helped optimize processes, reduce downtime, and improve maintenance scheduling.
