Peter Hubbard: Don't Get Stuck in a Silo – Going Digital isn't TransformationitSMF UK
It has already been well documented that the service desk is under increasing amounts of pressure – whether it is to improve speed of response, be more agile, support non-traditional functions, and, usually, do more with a reduced budget. The answer? “Going digital.” Or so they think… In this presentation Peter examines how many organisations have, by purchasing a plethora of tools that overlap one another, inadvertently created data siloes that have hampered the transformation and growth of the enterprise; and how instead of allowing these siloes to reside side-by-side with different departments managing the data in different ways, now is the time to connect them in order to streamline operations and create a positive change within the business.
Take a look at this presentation to learn proven ways in which businesses can successfully leverage service management technologies and approaches into their operational processes, whilst simultaneously improving outcomes and building a strong foundation for future business growth.

The Centre Cannot Hold: Making IT Architecture Relevant In A Post IT WorldAlan McSweeney
Business has a consistently poor experience of the internal IT function. It is now all too easy for the business to bypass the central IT function. There is a business shift to cloud service providers offering infrastructure-less solutions with no perceived IT involvement. Outsourcing and the divestment of IT functions in response to business wishes to remove the overhead. The business need to respond to the interrelated developments of digital, mobile and social computing and perceived inability of the central IT function to respond.
If the IT function cannot react to the requirements of the business due to business pressures, the business will go elsewhere. Shadow IT - the acquisition of IT solutions outside the control of the IT function - is an unpleasant and common reality. 50% of IT expenditure is routinely spent outside the control of the IT function. Shadow IT is a symptom of a post-IT world.
The central IT function loses relevance and control. Businesses reduce their reliance on the core IT function.
IT architecture should act as a glue joining the business strategy to the IT strategy. IT architecture needs to operate as an internal business consulting And advisory function. An effective business oriented IT architecture function can get the correct balance between too little and too much, too slowly and too quickly. The IT Architecture team needs to operate as a team rather than a set of siloed internally focussed IT roles, involving business as well as technologists.

Understanding the mindset of the customer is a crucial ingredient in any successful managed services practice. What do they consider “managed services” and what kinds of questions to they ask when vetting providers? What do they look for in a service level agreement? Trends in Managed Services captures critical end-user information about managed services usage patterns, preferences and general attitudes towards managed services to help guide you toward maximum growth and profitability.
The study, conducted in two parts, includes quantitative findings based on an online survey of 350 executives in the end-user community, plus an in-depth set of qualitative interviews with 18 current or former users of managed services.
Data Privatisation, Data Anonymisation, Data Pseudonymisation and Differentia...Alan McSweeney
Your data has value to your organisation and to relevant data sharing partners. It has been expensively obtained. It represents a valuable asset on which a return must be generated. To achieve the value inherent in the data you need to be able to make it appropriately available to others, both within and outside the organisation.
Organisations are frequently data rich and information poor, lacking the skills, experience and resources to convert raw data into value.
These notes outline technology approaches to achieving compliance with data privacy regulations and legislation while providing access to data.
There are different routes to making data accessible and shareable within and outside the organisation without compromising compliance with data protection legislation and regulations and removing the risk associated with allowing access to personal data:
• Differential Privacy – source data is summarised and individual personal references are removed. The one-to-one correspondence between original and transformed data has been removed
• Anonymisation – identifying data is destroyed and cannot be recovered so individual cannot be identified. There is still a one-to-one correspondence between original and transformed data
• Pseudonymisation – identifying data is encrypted and recovery data/token is stored securely elsewhere. There is still a one-to-one correspondence between original and transformed data
These technologies and approaches are not mutually exclusive – each is appropriate to differing data sharing and data access use cases
The data privacy regulatory and legislative landscape is complex and getting even more complex so an approach to data access and sharing that embeds compliance as a matter of course is required.
Appropriate technology appropriately implemented and operated is a means of managing and reducing risks of re-identification by making the time, skills, resources and money necessary to achieve this unrealistic.
Technology is part of a risk management approach to data privacy. There is wider operational data sharing and data privacy framework that includes technology aspects, among other key areas. Using these technologies will embed such compliance by design into your data sharing and access facilities. This will allow you to realise value from your data successfully.

Did you know? Implementing ITSM can improve the effectiveness of IT functions by over 62%.
As there continues to be a global shift towards managing more and more data, and housing data in the cloud, many companies are looking to manage their IT budgets closer and sustaining their infrastructure operations. Many studies have provided data on how IT Operational costs eventually decrease over time, but there are still initial costs, and costs to upgrade, scale and sustain.
Until recently, most technical infrastructure components, devices, applications, etc. resided within the organization in which they served. Since the industry has moved to a more virtual model, data, technology, infrastructure services and even applications can now exist in the cloud. With that, there is a need to clearly understand exactly what is being stored in the cloud and how is it being managed.
Areas covered:
1. Understanding importance of ITSM
2. Delivering and managing IT services
3. The value of IT to the business and the service provider
4. Maintaining stability while allowing for change
5. Organizing to improve IT support operations
6. The processes underlying Service Operations
7. What to manage when interfacing with Cloud Service Providers

Types of cloud in cloud computing - qa cloud testingV2Soft2
In the realm of cloud computing, Quality Assurance (QA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and performance of applications and services deployed in the cloud. QA cloud testing encompasses various types of testing methodologies and practices tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities presented by cloud environments. One primary type of cloud testing is Functional Testing, which focuses on verifying that the application's features and functions work as intended in the cloud environment. This includes testing individual components, APIs, and integrations to identify any defects that may arise due to the cloud infrastructure.
Performance Testing is another significant aspect of QA cloud testing, ensuring that applications can handle varying workloads, scale effectively, and maintain optimal performance levels. Cloud environments offer the advantage of easily scalable resources, allowing for the simulation of real-world scenarios to assess system behavior under different conditions. This includes stress testing to evaluate the system's response under extreme loads, load testing to determine its capacity, and scalability testing to assess performance as resources are dynamically adjusted.
Security Testing is paramount in QA cloud testing to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities and potential threats. This involves assessing the effectiveness of security controls, encryption methods, and access controls within the cloud infrastructure. Penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and compliance testing are essential components of security testing to ensure that cloud-based applications and services adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements. By conducting comprehensive QA cloud testing, organizations can enhance the overall quality, security, and reliability of their cloud-based solutions, providing users with a seamless and secure experience in the cloud.
