1. Finding a job is very difficult in this economic situation. Once people find the job that
they are looking, they have to be evaluated by employers. For this reason, interviews are the
most important things for people who are seeking for a job. I agree with the statement that rather
than using traditional question-and-answer interviews to evaluate job candidates, employers
should observe candidates as they perform some of the job’s actual tasks for three reasons.
First, interviews are not fair to evaluate job candidates because the time is very short.
Some people are not good at showing their strengths in a short time. In addition, many people get
nervous before they are interviewed. For example, I was looking for a job in my own country. I
had a lot of interviews, but every time I got an interview I always got nervous, and I could not
show my ability. If I had a chance to perform what job is required, I believe that I would be able
to be hired.
Second, employers cannot be sure that a candidate is good for the position by only
looking papers because everyone can learn the traditional questions, and each person can practice
these questions. In addition, sometimes people can have really a good job background or a good
educational background, but in reality these qualities sometimes do not match with the job’s
requirements. On the other hand, if employers observe candidates as they perform some of the
job’s actual tasks, they can see which candidate can practice his/her ability the real job. For
example, my uncle has a hospital, and he always evaluates candidates as they perform some of
the job’s actual tasks. One time, I remember that he was looking for a lab technician. The
candidate for this position had a lot of good recommendations and background on his resume.
However, when my uncle wanted him to try something that the job requires, the candidate was
not able to do that. After that, my uncle told me that if he had hired this person with traditional
questions, he would have lost time and money.
