ISOMETRIC PROJECTION
SUMMARY
Isometric projection is one of the three forms of axonometric projection. In
isometric projection the angles between the projection of the axes are equal
i.e. 120º
Isometric drawing is another way of presenting designs/drawings in three
dimensions. The example opposite has been drawn with a 30 degree set
square. Designs are always drawn at 30 degrees in isometric projection.
Learn step by step how to draw a piece in Isometric Perspective taking into account
your views.
Step 1: Draw the envelope volume
This, being the first, is the most important step. I recommend you do it ALWAYS.
ALWAYS begin drawing the maximum volume, that parallelogram that contains all
the piece inside.

Isometric Perspective
The squad is placed down as support with the hypotenuse (the long side)
horizontal. This rule is the one you must hold firmly with the hand that you do not
draw, so you will have your dominant hand free to draw.
The other set square will move over the squad gently and, when you have it in the
proper position, you will hold it slightly with a finger of the left hand, while still
holding the squad tightly.
Step 2: Decide the position of the object.
Where are the top view and side view?.
Remember that usually the piece is given by 3 views: front, top and side
view. We work with the European system, and that means that the side
view we are given on the right is the left side view.
But why is the side view on the right the left view?
It's easy, I'll explain with a drawing.

trata del Perfil Lateral Derecho.

Step 3: Take measurements for each axes.
Now is the time to take into account scales and reduction coefficients.
Suppose the following piece, given by its views. We have already drawn the
axes of the Isometric and placed the front view to the right.
In the case that the views of the piece are not rectangles or complete
squares, you will have to draw them like rectangles.
Therefore, first draw the rectangles that enclose each view.
Secondly you must take the measurements and take them to each axis.
What measures should you take?
The width of the front view (A) will go to the axis perpendicular to the
axis perpendicular to the direction that we have marked as front view.
The width of the side view (B) will go to the axis perpendicular to the
side view.
The height of the front view (C) will go to the vertical axis.
If you take the measurements and take them to the correct axes you will
get points 1, 2 and 3.

Step 4:
Draw parallel lines to the axes until the parallelogram is closed.
With a line parallel to the Y axis by the point 3 and another parallel to the
Z axis by the point 1 you will get the point 4.
With a parallel to X for 1 and another parallel to Y for 2 you get point 5.
Finally, with a parallel to X by point 3 and another parallel to Z by point 2
you will find point 6.
You already have the back walls. To close the cube you only need to draw a
parallel to X by point 4, one parallel to Y by point 6 and one parallel to Z by
point 5.
And there you have vertex 7 that closes the parallelogram!!!!!
Step 5: Draw the views on the faces of the piece in perspective.
Draw as thin as you can to avoid the drawing becomes
dirty.
First of all, the front view…

Go on drawing the side view…
And finish drawing the top view…
Step 6: Erase whatever you need in order to find that you can see all
the views in your 3D drawing.
¿Cómo podemos hacerlo? Proyectando ese cuadrado sobrante desde el
Perfil hasta el fondo, mediante rectas paralelas al eje Y. Estas cortarán a la
cara posterior de la figura O-2-6-3 y te quedaré una pieza más sencilla que
la que teníamos, con menos volumen y, por tanto, menos que tallar.
Quitar un bocado evidente es simplificar la pieza, aligerar peso

You must know: In axonometry, the angles can be used freely, depending
on the intended objective. The only requirement is that they must add
360 degrees, obviously, which are the degrees of the complete
circumference.

  • 1. 1 ISOMETRIC PROJECTION SUMMARY Isometric projection is one of the three forms of axonometric projection. In isometric projection the angles between the projection of the axes are equal i.e. 120º Isometric drawing is another way of presenting designs/drawings in three dimensions. The example opposite has been drawn with a 30 degree set square. Designs are always drawn at 30 degrees in isometric projection. Learn step by step how to draw a piece in Isometric Perspective taking into account your views. Step 1: Draw the envelope volume This, being the first, is the most important step. I recommend you do it ALWAYS. ALWAYS begin drawing the maximum volume, that parallelogram that contains all the piece inside.
  • 2. 2 Isometric Perspective The squad is placed down as support with the hypotenuse (the long side) horizontal. This rule is the one you must hold firmly with the hand that you do not draw, so you will have your dominant hand free to draw. The other set square will move over the squad gently and, when you have it in the proper position, you will hold it slightly with a finger of the left hand, while still holding the squad tightly. Step 2: Decide the position of the object. Where are the top view and side view?. Remember that usually the piece is given by 3 views: front, top and side view. We work with the European system, and that means that the side view we are given on the right is the left side view. But why is the side view on the right the left view? It's easy, I'll explain with a drawing.

  • 4. 4 Step 3: Take measurements for each axes. Now is the time to take into account scales and reduction coefficients. Suppose the following piece, given by its views. We have already drawn the axes of the Isometric and placed the front view to the right. In the case that the views of the piece are not rectangles or complete squares, you will have to draw them like rectangles. Therefore, first draw the rectangles that enclose each view.   • 5. 5 Step 4: Draw parallel lines to the axes until the parallelogram is closed. With a line parallel to the Y axis by the point 3 and another parallel to the Z axis by the point 1 you will get the point 4. With a parallel to X for 1 and another parallel to Y for 2 you get point 5. Finally, with a parallel to X by point 3 and another parallel to Z by point 2 you will find point 6. You already have the back walls. To close the cube you only need to draw a parallel to X by point 4, one parallel to Y by point 6 and one parallel to Z by point 5. And there you have vertex 7 that closes the parallelogram!!!!! Step 5: Draw the views on the faces of the piece in perspective. Draw as thin as you can to avoid the drawing becomes dirty. First of all, the front view…
  • 6. 6 Go on drawing the side view… And finish drawing the top view… Step 6: Erase whatever you need in order to find that you can see all the views in your 3D drawing. ¿Cómo podemos hacerlo?
