This study investigated stabilizing clayey soil through the addition of human hair and coir fiber. Various tests were conducted on soil samples with 0.5-2% additions of each fiber, including compaction, unconfined compression, and California bearing ratio tests. The optimum fiber contents were found to be 1% for both human hair and coir fiber. MDD and strength properties increased up to this optimum, then decreased with further additions. Combining 0.5% human hair and 0.5% coir fiber produced the highest increases in MDD, CBR value, and UCC strength compared to untreated soil. The study concluded that human hair and coir fiber are effective and economical for improving engineering properties of
Investigations of Mechanical Characteristics of Chicken Feather-Teak wood Dus...IJERDJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: The present research has been undertaken with an objective to explore the potential of wood dust and chicken feather as reinforcing material in epoxy composites and to investigate the mechanical behaviour of the composites. Composites of teak wood dust (450 µm size) in 10,15 and 20 percentages of weight mixed with epoxy along with 5 % of chopped chicken feather have been prepared by hand lay up technique. The metallic mould developed in house was used to cast ASTM standard specimens. All the three samples have been tested in UTM for tensile strength and it is observed that composite with 15 % teak wood dust is having highest strength of 8.93 MPa. From water absorption tests in 24 hours the weight gain is very little and negligible for all the composites. Hence these composites can perform very well in moist atmosphere

Influence of untreated and treated coir pith on compaction and strength chara...eSAT Journals
Abstract Scarcity of land has led to the improvement of ground by stabilisation so as to utilize the available land, which was once considered unsuitable for construction activities. Many studies have been carried out to improve the ground using natural and synthetic fibres. Industrial and agricultural wastes are used to stabilise the soil as they are easily available and cheap. This can reduce the pollution due to disposal of such wastes. In this study, coir pith is used to stabilise the soil. This paper studies the effect of untreated and untreated coir pith on the compaction and the shear strength characteristics of the soil mixed with coir pith in varying percentages of 0% to 3% with an increment of 0.5%. A slight reduction in the dry density was observed with increase in percentage of coir pith. Whereas the treated coir pith soil mix shows increase in dry density as the pith content increases. It was observed that the optimum moisture content increases with increase in percentage of coir pith till 2% and thereafter decreases. For treated pith-soil mix, OMC decreases at first and then increases. A considerable increase in shear strength was observed after the chemical treatment of coir pith. Mechanical properties of rice husk flour reinforced epoxy bio-compositeIJERA Editor
A bio-composite reinforced with rice husk flour in epoxy resin has been developed. The effect of fibre treatment and weight percentage of rice husk on the mechanical properties was studied and compared with wood dust reinforced epoxy composite. It was observed that addition of rice husk as filler is detrimental to almost all the mechanical properties. About 51% and 26.8% decrease in ultimate strength and Young’s Modulus for 40 wt% untreated rice husk reinforcement was observed. The corresponding decrease in flexural strength and flexural modulus was 51%. Similar trend was also observed in hardness and impact strength. However the mechanical properties of rice husk reinforced biocomposites are found to be superior than wood dust reinforced epoxy composite. SEM microscopy was also done to corroborate the results.
