This document describes a proposed web application called WaSH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) services that would provide information on the locations of basic sanitation services like drinking water, public washrooms, and garbage disposal areas. It notes that over 1 billion people worldwide lack access to basic sanitation. The proposed WaSH app would allow users to search for the nearest sanitation services based on their location, and provide directions to get there. It would also include news and updates about the WaSH sector. The document reviews some similar existing apps and notes limitations like only covering one type of service or a small locality. It proposes that the WaSH app could help address issues of lack of awareness, unreliable services, and sustainability threats to
1) A survey was conducted across India to understand willingness, awareness, and use of mHealth among 1886 respondents from urban and rural areas.
2) While willingness to use mHealth was uniformly high across urban and rural populations, there were significant divides in awareness and actual use between these groups. Urban residents had much higher rates of awareness and use compared to rural.
3) There were also disparities found between aware and unaware individuals as well as current users and non-users in terms of socioeconomic status, mobile access and utilization, and healthcare access and utilization.
