• NetSim is the world's only simulator to feature RPL protocol for IOT
• Routing Protocol for low power and lossy links (RPL) implemented in NetSim as per RFC 6550
• RPL is a standard which specifies the NETWORK layer for low-rate wireless personal area
networks.
• The nodes are connected by RPL IPv6 protocol. This protocol forms the basis of Internet of Things
(IoT).
• RPL provides a mechanism to disseminate information over the dynamically formed network
topology.
• This mechanism uses Trickle to optimize the dissemination.

RPL Identifiers :
1. Rank : Rank establishes a partial order over a DODAG Version,
defining individual node positions with respect to the DODAG root.
2. RPLInstanceID : Identifies a set of one or more Destination Oriented
DAGs (DODAGs)
3. DODAGID : A RPL Instance may have multiple DODAGs, each of which
has an unique DODAGID
4. DODAGVersionNumber : A DODAG is sometimes reconstructed from
the DODAG root, by incrementing the DODAGVersionNumber

RPL DODAG formation and maintained by the control messages.
The control messages are-
1. DODAG Information Solicitation (DIS) : .DIS message broadcasted by new nodes joining
network, may be used to solicit a DODAG Information Object from a RPL node.
2. DODAG Information Object (DIO) : Carries information that allows a node to discover a RPL
Instance, learn its configuration parameters, select a DODAG parent set, and maintain the
DODAG.
3. DODAG Advertisement Object (DAO) : Downward route are maintained by DAO messages

IOT Simulation with RPL protocol • NetSim is the world's only simulator to feature RPL protocol for IOT • Routing Protocol for low power and lossy links (RPL) implemented in NetSim as per RFC 6550 • RPL is a standard which specifies the NETWORK layer for low-rate wireless personal area networks. • The nodes are connected by RPL IPv6 protocol. This protocol forms the basis of Internet of Things (IoT). • RPL provides a mechanism to disseminate information over the dynamically formed network topology. • This mechanism uses Trickle to optimize the dissemination.

Rank : Rank establishes a partial order over a DODAG Version, defining individual node positions with respect to the DODAG root. 2. RPLInstanceID : Identifies a set of one or more Destination Oriented DAGs (DODAGs) 3. DODAGID : A RPL Instance may have multiple DODAGs, each of which has an unique DODAGID 4. DODAGVersionNumber : A DODAG is sometimes reconstructed from the DODAG root, by incrementing the DODAGVersionNumber

DODAG Information Solicitation (DIS) : .DIS message broadcasted by new nodes joining network, may be used to solicit a DODAG Information Object from a RPL node. 2. DODAG Information Object (DIO) : Carries information that allows a node to discover a RPL Instance, learn its configuration parameters, select a DODAG parent set, and maintain the DODAG. 3. DODAG Advertisement Object (DAO) : Downward route are maintained by DAO messages
