Internet of Things is gaining unprecedented amount of traction across the globe. And the large organizations are making huge investments on IoT, which is going to change the shape of the 'Connected World'. Hence, it becomes necessarily important to understand the components, technologies and their interaction in the world of IoT.
The session would cover the Introduction of IoT, its components, the forces that have brought the ecosystem to mainstream and its adoption across industries. Then along with the Reference Architecture, I would discuss a few of industry implementations in IOT area with reference to the architecture. Next would be a comparative analysis of various IOT platforms available in the market and their architectures. And finally I would take up the challenges in making IOT as pervasive as it is believed to be.
A key take away would be the architectural appreciation of IOT landscape. As of now, any and every player in the market has begun to advertise their product as an IOT platform but a comprehensive review of fundamental design and architecture would bring this plethora of products (including open source ones) in the right purview. And that's the objective of this talk.

IoT across devices with Windows 10 and Azure IoT Suite by Admir TuzovićBosnia Agile
More and more, we’re seeing the Internet of Things (IoT) become part of the fabric of business, helping converge an organization’s assets, data and processes with people and business systems. Today, this intersection is allowing enterprises to uncover new opportunities, create new business models and transform their operations – from elevators, to particle accelerators and washing machines – to become truly digital businesses.
Microsoft’s vision is to help companies thrive in this era of IoT, delivering open, scalable platforms and services that any company, whether startup or the most established global enterprises, can use to create new value, right now. We have made huge investments in the Windows 10 IoT operating system for devices, and equally with the Azure IoT Suite, we’re bringing together a variety of Azure services to help our customers accelerate their transformation to digital businesses.
The Azure IoT Suite is an integrated offering that takes advantage of all the relevant Azure capabilities to connect devices and other assets (i.e. “things”), capture the diverse and voluminous data they generate, integrate and orchestrate the flow of that data, and manage, analyze and present it as usable information to the people who need it to make better decisions as well as intelligently automate operations. The offering, while customizable to fit the unique needs of organizations, will also provide finished applications to speed deployment of common scenarios we see across many industries, such as remote monitoring, asset management and predictive maintenance, while providing the ability to grow and scale solutions to millions of “things.”
In the coming years, IoT will look completely different than it does today. IoT is a greenfield market.
New players, with new business models, approaches, and solutions, can appear out of nowhere and overtake incumbents.

Confusion of Things — The IoT Hardware KerfuffleOmer Kilic
Presented at OSHCamp 2015, as part of Wuthering Bytes at Hebden Bridge
While the definition of the term IoT (i.e: Internet of Things) is as cloudy as the “cloud”, everyone seems to be doing it. With excitement levels reaching stratospheric levels, the amount of buzzword-driven articles and colourful (and oh so unnecessary) abstract vector drawings that depict toasters communicating with cars have essentially made lives of many engineers who just want to build things a living hell.
This talk will strip back the layers of marketing and aim to answer the question: “Which hardware platform should you use for building connected devices?”. With the plethora of chips/single board computers and specifically IoT-branded offerings out there, the platform choice does get a little difficult at times. By breaking down the application at hand into certain key requirement categories, this process could be simplified. There will also be mention of some of the most popular hardware platforms and how they differ from each other.

In this presentation, Adhirai introduces the concept of SMAC and associated trends. Adhirai's interest area lies in "Pure play" systems particularly those in automobiles.
IoT has become so vital in our daily life and it is going to create a big impact in the near future. For example, solutions can be provided instantly for the traffic flows, reminding about the vehicle maintenance, reduce energy consumption. Monitoring sensors will diagnose pending maintenance issues, and even prioritize maintenance crew schedules for repair equipment. Data analysis systems will help metropolitan and cosmopolitan cities to function easily in terms of traffic management, waste management, pollution control, law enforcement and other major functions efficiently.
British entrepreneur Kevin Ashton first coined the term in 1999 while working at Auto-ID Labs (originally called Auto-ID centers - referring to a global network of Radio-frequency identification (RFID) connected objects). Typically, IoT is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that goes beyond machine-to-machine communications (M2M) and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and applications. The interconnection of these embedded devices (including smart objects), is expected to usher in automation in nearly all fields, while also enabling advanced applications like a Smart Grid, and expanding to the areas such as smart cities.
"Things," in the IoT sense, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, electric clams in coastal waters, automobiles with built-in sensors, DNA analysis devices for environmental/food/pathogen monitoring or field operation devices that assist firefighters in search and rescue operations. These devices collect useful data with the help of various existing technologies and then autonomously flow the data between other devices. Current market examples include smart thermostat systems and washer/dryers that use Wi-Fi for remote monitoring.
Considering it to the next level, linked devices can help the people personally like you get an alert from the refrigerator reminding you to shop some vegetables when the vegetable tray is empty, your home security systems enables you to open the door for some guest with help of connected devices(IoT).
