In the Greek legend, Asclepius, the god of the healing art, delegated to Hygieia the duty of compounding his remedies
Pharmacy has been inseparable from mankind’s history. The history of preparation and use of medicines dates back to ancient times.
In ancient times, diseases were thought to be produced by evil forces or by a God’s anger.
Thus, religious persons (priests or shamans) or magicians were found to be associated with the treatment of patients. So called religious rituals always accompanied with the drug treatment.
Pharmacology is study of the substances which interact with living system by activating or inhibiting normal body processes. It includes physical and chemical properties, biochemical and physiological effects, mechanism of action, therapeutic uses and adverse effects of drugs.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. INTRODUCTION
Pharmacology is the branch of science of
drugs which deals with the interaction of
exogenously administered chemical
molecules with living system.
It is derived from greek word ‘pharmakon
means drug’ and ‘ logos means science or
knowledge’.
Any single chemical substance which can
produce a biological response is called drug.
3. It includes the study of mechanism of action ,
interactions , contraindications , adverse reactions,
side effects of drugs with in the living system.
It explains about the pharmacodynamics [what
the drug does to the body] , and pharmacokinetics
[what the body does to the drug] .
It also explains the different actions of drugs
in different people based on their body
responses to the drug.
4. HISTORY OF PHARMACOLOGY
The origin of pharmacology is not clearly
known.
In earlier most drugs were crude natural
products of unknown composition and limited
efficacy .
The earlier people know the knowledge of
crude drugs and their uses in diseases .
So , the early pharmacology focussed on
herbalism and natural substances , mainly plant
extracts .
5. Pharmacology as an experimental science was
intiated by Rudolf buchheim who founded the
first institute of pharmacology in 1847 in
Gemany .
Although the oswald schmiedeberg student of
buchheim influenced to study of medicines
into an experimental science .
In 19th century Oswald schmiedeberg [1838-1921]
,regarded as ‘Father of pharmacology’ .
6. Together with oswald many followers like J Langely,
T Frazer , P Ehrlich , AJ clark , JJ abel to enunciate
some of the fundamental concepts in
pharmacology .
Since then the drugs have been purified ,
chemically characterized and a wide variety of
highly potent and selective new drugs have been
developed .
The mechanism of action including molecular
target of many drugs have been illuminated .
