Network Intent Composition in OpenDaylightOpenDaylight
There is a flurry of activity on policy and intent in Software-defined Networks. The NIC project in OpenDaylight focuses on enabling the controller to manage and direct network services and network resources based on app-described “Intents”. The Intent based NBI allows for a descriptive way to get what is desired from the infrastructure, unlike the current SDN interfaces which are based on describing how to provide different services. The Network Intent Composition function will use existing OpenDaylight Network Service Functions and Southbound Plugins to control both virtual and physical network devices.
OpenNebulaConf2019 - How We Use GOCA to Manage our OpenNebula Cloud - Jean-Ph...OpenNebula Project
At Iguane Solutions, a lot of our "DevOps" tools are developed in Golang, and we have a good amount of experience in contributing to the Goca. I'll review just what contributions we make, as well as how we use Goca with different tools, on a daily basis, to manage and monitor our OpenNebula cloud.
I will delve into the concept of Infrastructure as Code - deployment of VM instances on cloud, as well as, also address the metrics collection of deployed VMs. Finally, I will present how we can abstract VM management with automation tools thanks to GOCA.

Within the last four years container technologies have become very popular. A lot of companies and developers are now using containers to ship their applications. Docker provides an easy-to-use packaging model to bundle the application. However in many cases, a single container is not enough to run an application. It requires multiple containers, scaled into multiple host machines to become a production grade deployment. Kubernetes is an open source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. It groups containers that make up an application into logical units for easy management and discovery. This presentation discusses best practices of deploying application in Docker and Kubernetes while discussing Docker and Kubernetes concepts.

OpenDaylight is an exciting new community-led, open source project focused on accelerating adoption of software-defined networking (SDN) by providing a robust SDN platform on which the industry can build and innovate. An OpenDaylight controller provides flexible management of both physical and virtual networks. The open source nature of the project and its flexible network management capabilities make it an ideal SDN platform to integrate with Neutron.
In this session, OpenDaylight community members from Cisco, IBM, RedHat, and Ericsson will describe the OpenDaylight project goals and platform architecture, as well as the roadmap and progress to date. OpenDaylight brings together a number of virtual networking approaches, and we will discuss integration approaches with OpenStack Neutron that provide flexibility for OpenStack administrators and users. Details of our initial Neutron integration will also be demonstrated for attendees.
Attendees will leave this session with a greater understanding of what OpenDaylight is, and how it can integrate with OpenStack Neutron to provide a powerful SDN-based networking solution for OpenStack Clouds.

Abstract: In our FluentD vs. Logstash comparison blog we talked about the importance of easily capturing, parsing, and visualizing log data at enterprise scale. We looked at the approaches FluentD and Logstash take to accomplish these tasks and defined particular areas of complexity and challenge that users face. Participants in this demo-driven webinar will watch as a system is configured for log analysis using both approaches, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each technology in the process.

Abstract: Many enterprises and, as many of us learned during the COVID-19 outbreak, governments, rely on mainframes to do the bulk of their data-driven work and the modern mainframe is very good at what it does. But what if you’re looking to modernize your platform and bring in the DevOps methodologies, tooling, and practice into your organization?
Today, there is an entire product line of mainframes that exclusively run Linux (RHEL, SLES, or Ubuntu). With Linux, you get access to the vast ecosystem of open source software that’s already been ported to the mainframe architecture (s390x), with more being ported every month.
If your organization is using z/OS, the Open Mainframe Project has a series of open source projects targeted specifically at the mainframe and improving usability. Zowe, for instance, helps create a consolidated API for accessing resources and workload on your system and Feilong is a z/VM connector that allows you to manage your virtual machines with familiar open source tooling like OpenStack. There are even connectors for Jenkins that allow you to integrate CI/CD pipelines with your workloads.
In this talk I’ll explore all of this in more to show you how an automated, modern environment can thrive on today’s mainframe.

A presentation on Software Defined Networking, its concepts and application in cloud computing. It starts with an introduction about SDN and some key concepts from the whitepaper at the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), I explain how OpenFlow and SDN differ, openflow being a standard protocol to control network devices. I give an overview of SDN integration in cloudplatform; opennebula, openstack and cloudstack and then gave a quick demo of the OpenDayLight controller.
Scaling OpenStack Neutron in Heterogeneous EnvironmentsMartin Klein
Scaling an Openstack deployment requires serious thought and consideration, commonly it is achieved by multiplying the constrained resource. A notable exception is Neutron, in particular the L2 subsystem. The L2 network needs to scale up while most connected components are scaling out. A common approach to scaling the number of available L2 network segments in a region is the introduction of advanced overlay networks, with the drawback that all connected devices need to implement the overlay protocol. Installations requiring multiple hypervisor types or bare metal have a limited number of overlay protocol options.
Neutron provides an alternative to a single overlay protocol; separating L2 in the network fabric from the protocol used on the network edge via Hierarchical Port Binding.
This talk introduces a Neutron HPB architecture and ML2 implementation currently in use at SAP. We will discuss the issues that HPB solved and the challenges faced during our HPB deployment.

While service meshes may be the next "big thing" in microservices, the concept isn't new. Classical SOA attempted to implement similar technology for abstracting and managing all aspects of service-to-service communication, and this was often realized as the much-maligned Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). Several years ago similar technology emerged from the microservice innovators, including Airbnb (SmartStack for service discovery), Netflix (Prana integration sidecars), and Twitter (Finagle for extensible RPC), and these technologies have now converged into the service meshes we are currently seeing being deployed.
In this talk, Daniel Bryant will share with you what service meshes are, why they're well-suited for microservice deployments, and how best to use a service mesh when you're deploying microservices. This presentation begins with a brief history of the development of service meshes, and the motivations of the unicorn organisations that developed them. Building from lessons learned and challenges faced with system automation, how one can kickstart an automation project and gain small wins quickly. Where and how to start the journey? What to avoid? What to prioritise? How to overcome the lack of network skills for the automation engineer and lack of automation and Linux/Unix skills for network engineers. What challenges were faced and how to overcome them? What fights to give up? Where do I see network automation and configuration management as a systems engineer? Accelerating Neutron with Intel DPDK from #vBrownBag session at OpenStack Summit Atlanta 2014.
1. Many OpenStack deployments use Open vSwitch plugin for Neutron.
2. But its performance and scalability are not enough for production.
3. Intel DPDK vSwitch - an DPDK optimized version of Open vSwitch developed by Intel and publicly available at 01.org. But it doesn't have enough functionality for Neutron. We have implemented the needed parts included GRE and ARP stacks. Neutron pluging

A session in the DevNet Zone at Cisco Live, Berlin. YANG is a data modeling language defining device and service configuration and operations. This session will describe what YANG is (with examples), and its relationship to and how it is used in OpenDaylight. Presentation of the survey published in the IEEE COMMUNICATIONS SURVEYS & TUTORIALS 2015. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has received a great deal of attention from both academia and industry in recent years. Studies on SDN have brought a number of interesting technical discussions on network architecture design, along with scientific contributions. Researchers, network operators, and vendors are trying to establish new standards and provide guidelines for proper implementation and deployment of such novel approach. It is clear that many of these research efforts have been made in the southbound of the SDN architecture, while the northbound interface still needs improvements. By focusing in the SDN northbound, this paper surveys the body of knowledge and discusses the challenges for developing SDN software. We investigate the existing solutions and identify trends and challenges on programming for SDN environments. We also discuss future developments on techniques, specifications, and methodologies for programmable networks, with the orthogonal view from the Software Engineering discipline.

This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
