The new teacher mentoring program aims to ease new teachers' transition into the classroom. Its goals are to increase teacher retention, improve skills, and provide on-site support. Mentors will act as confidantes, colleagues, role models and advisors to help new teachers improve student achievement. In the first year, mentees will meet weekly with mentors, attend monthly meetings, be observed, and provide reflections. The expectations decrease in years two and three to focus on optional support. Mentors and mentees will receive professional development to ensure success.
