This document provides instructions for installing and configuring CVS (Concurrent Versions System) source control. 4. 1. Create a repository
 Decide your repository location
 /usr/local/cvsroot
 set CVSROOT variable (optional)
 export CVSROOT=/usr/local/cvsroot
Or
 vi /etc/profile
CVSROOT=/usr/local/cvsroot

5. 2. Create group and users
 Create a new group
 groupadd cvs
 Create new user for cvs
 useradd –g cvs –d /home/cvs cvs
 Create user password
 passwd cvs

6. 3. Set repository permission
 Set your repository permission for cvs group
 chown –R cvs:cvs /usr/local/cvsroot

7. 4. Download & install cvs
 Download latest cvs version from
 http://ftp.gnu.org/non-gnu/cvs/
 Untar cvs source
 tar –xvf cvs*.tar
Or
 tar –xzvf cvs*.tar.gz
 Compile & install
 cd /usr/local/cvs
 ./configure
 make
 make install

8. 5. Register cvs service
 Create cvspserver service
 vi /etc/xinetd.d/cvspserver
 service cvspserver
{
port = 2401
disable = no
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
user = root
server = /usr/bin/cvs
server_args = -f --allow-root=/usr/local/cvsroot
pserver
}
 /etc/init.d/xinetd restart (restart xinetd service)

9. 6. Test your connection
 Login as cvs user
 su –l cvs
 Test your login
 cvs -d :pserver:cvs@server:/cvs login

10. 7. Commit your source code
 Using eclipse, commit your source code
