CMY COLOR MODELS
CMY Color Model
o The Color model defined with the primary color cyan,
magenta and yellow (CMY) is useful for describing
color output to hard copy devices.
o The Complements of red, green, and blue respectively.
o This System is used for primary for printing.
CMY Color Model
o The CMY Color are called the “Subtractive Primaries.
o Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow are the secondary color of
light and the primary color of pigment.
o The White light is reflected from cyan-colored link.
o The Reflected light must have no red component.

Cyan (c):
Absorb red light and reflects green and blue light
producing a Cyan color.
How the CMY model work
Magenta (M):
Absorb green light and reflect red and blue
light, producing a magenta color.
Yellow (Y):
Absorb blue light and reflect red and green light,
producing a yellow color.

CMY Color Model
 Theoretically should produce black , but in practice, it
produce a muddy brown.
 This is why the CMYK model (Where K stands for black)
is often used in printing to achieve a true black color.
 The CMY model is fundamental in color printing because
it allow printer to create a full spectrum of color using
just three primary color.
Printing Process
 The Printing process often used with CMY model a
color point with a collection of four ink dots.
 Some what an RCB monitor uses a collection of
three
Phosphor dots.
 One dot is used for each of the primary color
(Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) and one dot is black.

Cyan, Magenta and Yellow ink typically produce dark
gray instead of black.
 Some plotter produce different color combination by
spraying the ink for the three primary color over each
other and allowing them to mix before they dry.
