Intraabdominal Migrating of Intrauterine Contraceptive Devices (IUD)

Ultrasound, x-rays, and CT scans were compared in detecting migrated intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUDs) in 6 patients. 5 cases involved uncomplicated migration outside the uterus, mostly to the right side, with no symptoms. 1 case involved rectal perforation by 2 migrated IUDs, explaining the patient's bloody stools and pain. X-rays detected misplaced IUDs well. Ultrasound had difficulty detecting migrated IUDs outside the uterus. CT scan precisely revealed migrated IUDs inside or outside hollow organs like the uterus, tubes, bladder, colon, and appendix.

Retained Products of Conception (RPOC) occur in 1 % of cases. Clinical features of 41 women diagnosed of RPOC by hysteroscopy, to establish the best time-lapse of an expectant management after an office hysteroscopy avoiding an operative hysteroscopy to permit a spontaneous expulsion, were analyzed. There were no differences between patients who suffered a spontaneous expulsion or those in whom a persistence of RPOC was observed at time of surgical removal in terms of age, gravidity, prior uterine surgeries, uterine alterations, type and time of pregnancy termination and ultrasonographic characteristics. There was a higher rate of spontaneous expulsion after 4 weeks from the office hysteroscopy compared with those where the surgical removal was performed up to 4 weeks after the diagnosis (p-value 0.011).Laparoscopy 2

A 34-year-old woman presented with lower abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. Ultrasound and MRI revealed an abdominal pregnancy implanted on the mesentery of the sigmoid colon. The patient underwent laparotomy where the 13-week placenta was dissected from the mesentery and abdominal sidewall. Abdominal pregnancy is a rare and serious form of ectopic pregnancy that can be accurately diagnosed using ultrasound and MRI to determine placental location preoperatively.
Misplaced IUCD -A Case Study
Migration of intrauterine devices (IUCDs) from the uterus can occur, ranging from expulsion to perforation into other organs. Imaging plays an important role in diagnosing migrated IUCDs. The case report describes 4 cases of migrated IUCDs diagnosed by x-ray, ultrasound, CT, and treated by laparotomy, hysteroscopic or cystoscopic removal. Migrated IUCDs can cause complications and their removal is usually recommended even if asymptomatic.

This study examined the usefulness of triple assessment (clinical examination, radiology, and fine needle aspiration cytology) in evaluating lumpy breasts in peri-menopausal women. 63 women aged 35-45 with lumpy breasts underwent clinical exams, ultrasound or mammography, FNAC if possible, and excision biopsy. Histopathology found 33 cases of fibrocystic changes, 21 fibroadenomas, and 4 malignancies. Clinical diagnosis agreed poorly with histology, while radiology and FNAC agreed reasonably well, particularly for diagnosing malignancy. The study found triple assessment useful for evaluating lumpy breasts, with radiology and FNAC providing better diagnostic accuracy than clinical exam alone.

This case report describes a 25-year old woman in her third pregnancy with two previous cesarean sections who presented with a huge left ovarian mucinous cystadenoma measuring 40x30x15cm and weighing 20kg. She underwent an emergency cesarean section to deliver a healthy baby. During surgery, 3 liters of fluid was drained from the cyst before removing the entire cyst. ARFI imaging provided a fast, useful method for assessing liver stiffness comparable to transient elastography. The study concludes ARFI should be used to systematically evaluate liver stiffness in diabetic patients to identify fibrosis.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

- 10. A 42yo female patient suffered from bloody stool. 2 years before she came to change her IUD which set up for 10 years, since then she usually got abdominal pain with bloody stool. In ultrasound examination, there is an T shape IUD into the uterus and a hyperechoic focal into the rectum. Later, CT scan confirmed 2 IUDs in the same patient, one into the uterus and others into the rectum.
