Definition-:
The Internet of Things also called “Internet of object”
refers to a wireless communication between objects.
The Intenet of Things refers to the concept that the internet
is no longer just a globle network of people to communicate
with one another using computers, but it is also a plateform
for divices to communicate electronically with the world
around them.
The term “Intenet of Things” to describe a number of
technologies and research disciplines that enable the
Internet to reach out onto the real world of physical object.
The term “Internet of Things”was first use by Kevin Ashton in
1999
The Internet of Things consists of three main components:
1. The things (or assets) themselves.
2. The communication networks connecting them.
3. The computing systems that make use of the data flowing to and from our

Agriculture - sensors can be deployed on farm machinery in order to provide data about the equipment, soil
temperature, moisture, etc.
Buildings/Smart Homes - Building sensors be used to help facility managers become more proactive about
ensuring that their buildings operate at peak efficiency.
Communities – Smart cities make use of parking space availability systems, intelligent traffic monitoring systems,
intelligent highways, weather-adaptive street lighting, and more.
Manufacturing – factories with sensors can improve operations, product quality, and decrease safety
hazards.
Smartphones – can control everything from door locks, thermostats, light bulbs, vacuum cleaners, and
more.
Utilities – smart water meters can be used to reduce water leaks. Smart electric grids can adjust rates
depending on usage.
Wearables – Smart watches, fitness trackers and health monitors may become primary source for

Security-:
As the IoT connects more devices together, it provides more decentralized
entry points for malware. Less expensive devices that are in physically
compromised locales are more subject to tampering. More layers of software,
integration middleware, APIs, machine-to-machine communication, etc. create
more complexity and new security risks. Expect to see many different
techniques and vendors addressing these issues with policy-driven approaches
to security and provisioning.

IPv4 is a 32-bit based system, thus it can offer a total of around 4.3 billion
unique addresses. This seems a lot, but this figure was reached in February
2010 - and new devices are obviously being added to the internet each day.I
network operators are increasingly promoting the adoption of IPv6 as a
complete replacement. This new 128-bit protocol can offer up to 340
undecillion (340,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) device
addresses, as well as enhanced security and network management benefits.
suppling power-:
In order for the Internet of Things to reach its full potential, the various devices
included on the network will need to become increasingly self-sustaining - not just in
terms of communication but also supplying power.
the IoT expands to cover millions – if not billions – of embedded sensors, the idea of
regularly changing the batteries in each device is not realistic. Instead, what is needed
is for each individual sensor to generate electricity from its own environment, harnessing
local elements such as vibrations, light and airflow.

Latest News on IoT:
Seventy-five percent of global business leaders are exploring the economic
opportunities of IoT, according to a report from The Economist.
Fifty billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2020, predicts Cisco.
The UK government recently approved 45 million pounds (US$76.26 million) in
research funding for Internet of Things technologies.
How will you benefit from the Internet of Things?
Intelligent transport solutions speed up traffic flows, reduce fuel
consumption, prioritize vehicle repair schedules, and save lives.
Smart electric grids more efficiently connect renewable resources, improve
system reliability and charge consumers based on smaller usage increments.
Sensors in homes and airports, or even shoes and doors, improve security by
sending signals when they are unused for a certain period of time – or if
they are used at the wrong time.
Ready or not?
