What is Interactive Board?
• Interactive Board are to digitize the handwritten data
• Using software to capture notes written on a board or
  board-like surface
• Allows instructor to electronically handwrite notes.
• Easy manipulation of digital data.
• Enhances the delivery of Teaching material.
• Positive improvements to the classroom
Literature Survey:
• Digital Pen:

Captures handwritten information like text, images .

Contains inbuilt camera, image processor and blue-tooth
  transceiver.

Digital pen requires special digital paper with dot
pattern that allows digital pen to analysis the
  information.
Disadvantage Of Digital Pen :

• Requires special dot pattern printed paper

• Also Different pattern for each paper
Types OF Interactive Board :
1. Resistive touch-based
2. Electromagnetic pen-
   based
3. Portable ultrasonic
4. Wiimote & IR-based
Why Wiimote based interactive board ?
• It is portable system
  Cheaper than other similar
  systems in market.
  Wii Remote (Wiimote) can
turn any surface into a Low-
  Cost Interactive
  Whiteboard.
• The system can assembled
  easily as not much wired
  connections are to be
  made.
• Easy availability of
  wiimotes.
Working Principle:

• Wiimote

• IR (Infrared Red) Pen

• Required Softwares
Wiimote:
• Input controller for Nintendo's Wii gaming
  console.
Wiimote:
Inside Wiimote:
1. IR Camera (128x96 Monochrome camera)
2. Three axis Accelerometor
    [ADXL 330]

3. Processor
   – AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
      5000+ OC to 2.9GHz
   – Nvidia Geforce 8800GT
   – 3GB RAM DDR2
• Bluetooth Transreceiver :
  Belkin F8T017 Bluetooth dongle

• Needs 2 Pencil cell Battery
Sensor Bar:
• It consists two
  clusters of IR diode

• Each clusters
  contains 5 IR
Basic Principle:
• “REVERSE LOGIC”

         The camera
     (Wiimote) is kept
        stationary

 and the IR light moves.
Infra red Pen:

• Easy Assembly
• high power infra red
  emitting diode
• small battery
Infra red Pen:

• Easy Assembly
• high power infra red
  emitting diode
• small battery
Applications
Optical Character Recognition:
• To translate human-
  readable characters to
  machine-readable codes
  such as ASCII.
• Allows direct
  processing of
  documents by
  computers.
Steps followed in OCR:
Data Acquisition:

• The page contained text is saved as an image
   in a standard format.
The raw data is subjected to a number of preliminary
processing steps to make it usable in the descriptive
stages of character analysis. Pre-processing aims to
produce data that are easy for the OCR systems to
                 operate accurately.

The main objectives of pre-processing are :
 • Filtering
 • Binarization
Filtering:

• Before median filtering

• After median filtering
Binarization:

• Before binarization

• After binarization
Segmentation:

• performed on the pre-processed image in order to
separate the whole image into first horizontal lines
containing sentences, then into individual characters.

Main objectives:
• Line segmentation
• Character segmentation
Line segmentation:

• Before line
  segmentation

• After line segmentation
Character segmentation:

• Before Character segmentation

• After Character segmentation
Pattern Matching:

• Normalised Cross-correlation Coefficient:

• f is the image,
• t¯ is the mean of the template,
• f¯(u,v) is the mean of the image under template
• Euclidean Distance Measure:

        D=[ΣΣ{f(x,y)-g(x,y)}2 ]1/2

• f(x,y) is the segmented character to be
  recognised,
• g(x,y) database images.
Schedule for next semester:

• Actual hardware implementation.

• Testing

• Implementation of OCR

• Testing & Modification
