Ecolinguistics is the study of language is relevant to many other fields of inquiry. Ecolinguistics is the study of language according to the environment it is used in (Derni, 2008).
Language is part of the environment where we live, it is to be speculated in accordance with this environment. And as language enters into almost every aspect of human life, many disciplines dealing with various aspects of human life can be used in correspondence with linguistic study.
Ecolinguistics also investigates the role of language in the development and possible solution of ecological and environmental problems (Fill, 1993 in Al-Gayoni, 2012:28). In the other words ecolinguistics is a study of preservation of linguistic diversity.

2. DEFINITION
“Interactional sociolinguistics is an
approach to the study of discourse that
focuses on how language users create
meaning via social interaction.”
The interactional sociolinguistic approach
to discourse analysis is multidisciplinary: It
concerns the study of the relationships
between language, culture and society
and has its roots in Anthropology,
Sociology and Linguistics.” (Alba-Juez,
2009)
3. Three experts who will be involved to
contribute to interactional sociolinguistics
in this discussion are;
◦ John Gumperz
◦ Erving Goffman
◦ Brown dan Levinson (1987)
4. John Gumperz:Anthropologist
“Develops an interpretative sociolinguistic
approach to the analysis of real time
processes in face-to-face interactions.
Gumperz emphasizes the fact that
cognition and language are affected by
social and cultural force.” Alba-Juez, 2006
5. FACETO FACE INTERACTION
The main idea behind Gumperz’s
sociolinguistics of interpersonal
communication is that speakers are members
of social and cultural groups, and as such, the
way they use language not only reflects their
group identity but also provides indices of
who they are, what they want to
communicate, and how skilful they are in
doing so.
6. According to Gumperz there are two
types of code switching;
a) Situational code switching Based on the situations
where the speakers find that they speak one language in
one situation and another in different one (no topic
change).
b) Metaphorical code switching Occurs when a change
of the topic of the discourse requires a change in the
language used. (topic change; formal to informal, serious
to humorous).
7. Erving Goffman: Sociologist
Goffman puts language in the same social and
interpersonal context as the presuppositions of
Gumperz's findings as an important background
for meaning coding.
8. TEORI DRAMATURGI ERVING
GOFFMAN
Dramaturgi adalah sandiwara kehidupan yang disajikan
oleh manusia. Konsep yang digunakan Goffman berasal
dari gagasan-gagasan Burke, yang menggunakan konsep
“peran sosial” dalam menganalisis interaksi sosial. Peran
adalah ekspektasi yang didefinisikan secara sosial yang
dimainkan seseorang suatu situasi untuk memberikan
citra tertentu kepada khalayak yang hadir. Bagaimana
sang aktor berperilaku bergantung kepada peran
sosialnya dalam situasi tertentu.
9. BROWN AND LEVINSON’S
POLITENESSTHEORY
Face Wants
10. Negative dan Positive Face
➢ Negative face is the desire to be independent to have a
freedom of action and not be imposed by others. E.g:
Your friends asks for a ride to the campus.
▪ Negative face needs: You think, this is not favorable, I do
not feel like driving this guy to the campus. I have other
stuff that I could be doing, like sleeping or saving the
gasoline in my car. He can find his own ride.
➢ Positive face is the desire to be liked, appreciated,
approved, etc. E.g: Your friends asks for a ride to the
campus.
▪ Positive face needs: You better take him because you
want him to like you.
11. Negative Politeness
Penutur dapat menghindari kesan memaksa dengan
menekankan kepentingan orang lain dengan
menggunakan permintaan maaf, atau dengan mengajukan
pertanyaan yang memberikan kemungkinan untuk
menjawab tidak. E.g; “Maaf, saya tidak bermaksud
mengganggu, tapi bisakah anda memberitahukan alamat
situs yang dosen bicarakan tadi pagi?”
12. Positive Politeness
tadi pagi.”
