This study explored the experiences of students and teachers using music and songs to teach science in middle school classrooms. Six cases were analyzed involving teacher interviews, classroom observations, and student focus groups. The findings showed that songs can effectively engage students and help transfer knowledge about science concepts through their lyrics and engaging content. Students reported enjoying participating with the songs and felt they gained new understanding. Music provides students with an alternative explanation of science concepts and opportunities for involvement that other teaching strategies cannot.
