2. Description
Type 1 Diabetes is a condition that causes the pancreas to create very little to
no insulin. The symptoms are: increased thirst, frequent urination, hunger,
fatigue, and blurred vision. Diabetes typically appears children. It is not
curable, but can be put into remission using medication and lifestyle
adjustments.
3. How it effects the endocrine system
This condition effects the endocrine system by attacking the cells that
produce insulin. Insulin functions in breaking down and storing glucose.
Without this precious hormone the glucose remains in the blood causing
increased blood pressure, which can lead to many health issues.
4. How insulin should work
In a healthy person, insulin is released by the pancreas into the liver when
blood sugar gets too high. This hormone will then work to convert glucose
into glycogen. On top of this, insulin also stimulates tissues to intake and use
more glucose, in turn removing glucose from the blood and lowering blood
sugar. The target tissues of this hormone are muscle and connective tissues.
5. How insulin effects other systems
One of the primary organs that insulin effects is the liver which is a part of the
digestive system. Insulin is released into the liver where it converts glucose
into glycogen and preventing blood sugar from becoming too high.
