How well known are the production
companies for both the high-budget
film and the low-budget film?
Avatar
■ The production companies for
Avatar are well known companies
this is why it did well as a film.
The Purge
■ The production companies for The
Purge are not very well known this
is why the film was low budget.
List the similarities and differences
between the high-budget film and the
low-budget film in term of the
institution
Similarities:
■ The similarities of Avatar and The Purge is that
they are both well known films.
Differences:
■ They are both different genres
■ They are both produced and distributed by
different companies
■ The budgets are different
■ They both give you a different effect overall
What other films has the production
company made? We're these as
successful? Why/Why not?
Avatar
■ Other films made by
these production
companies are Titanic,
Alvin and the
Chipmunks and Diary of
a wimpy kid. All these
films were as
successful as Avatar
this was because they
all had a good storyline
and it entertained
people.
The Purge
■ Other films made by these
production companies are
Paranormal Activity, Insidious and
sinister. All these films are also
low budget but are still all did very
well in the media.
What genre of films does the company
usually produce? Is this important
when considering who could produce
your film? Why?
Avatar
■ The productions that produced
Avatar produce any genre film I
know this because they produced
Conjuring 2 and also produced
Me Before You which are
completely different film genres.
The Purge
■ The productions that
produced The Purge
produce only horrors
this is important
when choosing a
production to
produce my film
because it would
have to be a horror
film otherwise it
wouldn't fit in with the
theme of the films.
What audiences do each of the
institutions aim to appeal to? Is this
reflected through their film choice, or
does this vary?
Avatar
■ The audience that the production
companies aim to appeal to are
very kind of audience because it
produces many different film
genres for all ages and people.
The Purge
■ The audience that the production
companies aim to appeal to are
15s and over and for anyone who
enjoys horror films.
Which institution do you feel outperforms
the other and could claim to be more
successful considering your research?
Explain for reasons.
■ I feel as if the institution that outperforms would be Dune
entertainment because it has produced a lot of well known films.
It could claim to be more successful because of the films it has
produced like conjuring 2 and Me Before You. These are the
latest top films and have both been produced by Dune
entertainment. It has also done well because of the production
companies it has joined up with like the Warner Brothers.
