QUESTION 3:
WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTEYOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT ANDWHY?
AS Media Evaluation
Vertigo Films
■ Vertigo Films is a British film production and film distribution company based in
London, England.
■ Vertigo Films was created in July 2002, by producers Allan Niblo, James Richardson,
director Nick Love, Rupert Preston, and entrepreneur Rob Morgan.
■ Vertigo Films have produced and distributed several films such asThe Sweeney, Kill
Command, StreetDance 3D and many others.
■ Their first film ever produced wasThe Football Factory which was in 2004 and was
directed by Nick Love who also directedThe Sweeney.
Why my product might be suitable for them?
■ I believe that my film would be suitable forVertigo Films because in the past, they
have been successful with films such asThe Sweeney which is a bit similar to mine in
which there is people working for a good orgainsation and there is a bad person in it. In
addition to this,The Sweeney involves a lot of chase scenes and running and within the
first few seconds of my film opening, we are presented with the main character
running.
■ I also believe that my film would suitably fitVertigo Films because they have never
made a film with the same genre as mine and therefore means there is a potential gap
in their portfolio for a film like mine.
■ In addition to this, asVertigo Films is a small, independent company, they wouldn’t be
able to afford high-budget films so as my film would require little amount of budget, it
would be very achievable for a company likeVertigo Films.
■ My film involves fast-paced, high energy action which has also been included in some
ofVertigo’s successful films such asThe Sweeney which made $7.7 million with only a
budget of £3 million. This shows that high-paced, action packed films are successful
with them and mine would involve a lot of energy so it might be what they are looking
for.
Would my product offer them a way to
attract a different audience group?
■ I think that my film would offer them a way to attract a different audience group because I
the past,Vertigo Films have never made a film with the same genre as mine so that could
be a good root to attract a new audience.
■ Some of the greatest, most watched films were action/ spy movies such as the Bourne
Trilogy. The Bourne Legacy (one of the Bourne films) alone achieved a box office of $276.1
million which is a huge amount of money. In addition, films such as Skyfall which is a action/
spy movie was extremely successful movie that attracted loads of people due to its high
adrenaline, fast-paced scenes.
■ I believe that byVertigo Films branching out into the action/ spy genre, they could get
attract so many more people because that specific genre is so well-known and watched
that most spy movies are successful. This is why my film would offer them the chance to
attract a different audience group; because it is different to all their other films and has the
potential to attract a huge audience.
■ For one of my film opening analysis’s, I analysed the film Mission Impossible:Ghost
Protocol and what I found is that due to it containing lots of high-energy scenes as well as
violence scenes, it was very successful with attracting people to watch it so as my film
would contain a lot of that, I think that it would be a successful forVertigo Films.
■ Overall, I think that this particular media institution would be interested in distributing my
film because it would have a low budget which is something they would be looking for and
it also contains a lot of action which would help to attract a wide audience.
