What kind of institution
might distribute my media
product?
These are some of the
films which I have looked
The Truman
show
Distributors
• Paramount Pictures- an American film studio
based in Hollywood, California, that is a
subsidiary of the American media conglomerate
Viacom.
• Scott Rudin Productions
Both of these are bigger, main stream American
Film companies.
The Breakfast Club
Distibutors
• A&M Films
• Channel Productions
• Universal Pictures
These are also larger American Major productions
film companies which distribute more money.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Distributors
• Focus Features- an American film production and distribution
company, owned by Comcast through the Universal Filmed
Entertainment Group division of its wholly owned subsidiary
NBCUniversal. Focus Features distributes independent and
foreign films in the United States and internationally.
• Anonymous Content
• This Is That Productions-This is that productions was one of
the leading independent feature film production companies
All the main distributors for Eternal Sunshine and the Spotless
Mind distribute independent films.
Submarine
Distributors
• Film4
• Warp Films
• Weinstein Company, The
• UK Film Council
• Film Agency of Wales
• Optimum Releasing
• Protagonist Pictures
• Red Hour Films
Submarine has a lot of distributors. This is most likely because it is an independent film so it
uses smaller distribution companies to distribute it. They have a lot because they probably will
give a limited amount of funding so they use multiple so they can have more money to make
it with. All these companies distribute smaller, independent films.
Juno
Distributors
• Fox Searchlight Pictures- specialises in North American
distribution of independent and British films alongside
dramedy and horror films as well as art-house and foreign
films and is sometimes also involved in the financing of these
films.
• A Mandate Picture (Mr Mudd Productions)
• Mr Mudd (Mr Mudd Productions)
These are smaller distributions companies that mostly distribute
to independent films. Fox searchlight pictures also specialises in
dramedy (comedy-dramas) which is my genre of film
Which distributors would
distribute my film?
I think the distributors that would distribute my films would
be: Film 4 and Focus Features. This is because they both
distribute to my style of film which is an independent
comedy-drama. Film 4 is also British and Focus Features
distribute American and international films so they are this
would make them more likely to distribute mine.
Another company which I maybe might have distributed
mine would be Fox Searchlight Pictures as it specialises in
distributing independent comedy-dramas. However, it
might not because it also specialises in North-American
films so may not distribute to British films.
My Opening Sequence
Distributors.
• For distribution companies in
my opening sequence I made
up my own.
• The first one was whistling
fish productions. I did this as
it was simple and alternative
so it would fit the comedy
drama genre. I also did a
simple animation along with it
which I think suit the genre
too. The simplicity also adds
to the low budget idea of the
independent film.
• I then did the smaller production companies.
• I chose to do A Just In Time Production and In
association with Old Theatre Films. I did these
because they were simple and sound more like
smaller independent film companies.
Production Value and
Audience
• I think the production value of my film would be low. This
is because it is a Independent film similar to Submarine
and I would use smaller production companies for
distribution. I know it would be an independent comedy-
drama rather than a larger more hollywoodized one
because of the style of comedy drama as it is more
serious and uses darker tones and more subtle comedy.
• I think my film would have a more niche audience as it
would be a more serious and alternate film with subtle
comedy. I also think they would be younger adult+ age
group, like 19 and over.
• I dont think bigger major film production
companies would be interested in my film
because it would be low budget and also
because of the smaller niche audience.
