- Most of the band members have a serious
facial expression which also fits in with the
rock genre.
- As I have mentioned in other pieces of
research, 2 main colours used in rock
magazines (usually paired with one more
brighter colour such as red or blue) are
black and white, which would make this a
perfect photo to use, maybe for a double
page spread.
- Corrugated iron has an industrial aesthetic
which has connotations of hard
rock/metal.

effective way of aligning them with
the band.
- Eye lines are in the upper third;
dominance.
- Mostly wearing black but with little
bursts of colour that make it less
harsh.

- Use of the colour black which is one of
the main colours in the rock genre.
- Although his eyes are covered by
sunglasses, we can assume that he is
looking directly at the camera which
aligns him with the audience.
- The sunglasses and his laid back
posture present him as ’cool’.

5. How will I use this research in my final product?
The elements of these photos that I liked the most were:
- The use of the colour black.
- The eye contact with the audience.
- The high eye line.
- The mise-en-scene of jewelry and instruments.
I will keep these images in mind when shooting the images for my magazine and will use the things
mentioned above as I think they are effective ways of presenting the rock genre and attracting
readers through visuals.
