Global State of National Urban Policy 2021 - Presentation by Lamia Kamal-ChaouiOECDregions
The Global State of National Urban Policy 2021 report reviews the NUPs of 162 countries across the world. Building on the first edition launched in 2018, the report takes stock and rovides analysis of form, scope, and stage of development of NUP for policymakers and urban professionals. As such, this global monitoring aims to unpack how and in what forms NUPs have been developed, implemented and assessed globally.
The report assists national governments in advancing NUP processes, especially in improving links with Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda, and mainstreaming climate action into NUP. The report is a collaborative project of the OECD, UN-Habitat and Cities Alliance, and an outcome of the National Urban Policy Programme, a global partnership launched in 2016 at the Habitat III Conference.

Through the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), Innovate UK will invest up to £9.3 million in innovation projects. The aim of this competition is to support demonstration-stage projects that have the potential to improve lives of people living in lower income countries and emerging economies. It will support projects that address one or more of the global societal challenges recognised as the UN Sustainable Development Goals through development of innovative, market-creating products and services. These projects should ultimately lead to the deployment of those products or services within those countries.
This is a two-phase competition. Phase 1 projects must explore the feasibility of running a demonstration project in phase 2 and applicants can use a human-centred design or technical feasibility approaches during this phase. A successful sub-set of phase 1 projects will be invited to apply for phase 2.
Funding has been allocated from the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), a £1.5 billion fund to support cutting-edge research which addresses the problems faced by developing countries. GCRF will address global challenges through disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and innovation, and will strengthen capability for research and innovation within both the UK and developing countries, also providing an agile response to emergencies where there is an urgent research need. GCRF forms part of the UK's Official Development Assistance (ODA) commitment and will be awarded in a manner that fits with ODA guidelines.

Decarbonising homes in cities in the Netherlands: a neighbourhood approachOECDregions
OECD presentation on decarbonising homes in cities in the Netherlands: a neighbourhood approach.
About 90% of homes in the Netherlands depend on natural gas for heating. The Netherlands has made a commitment to phase out natural gas by 2050. To achieve the goal, the Netherlands has rolled out a natural gas-free pilot programme in 66 neighbourhoods. These neighbourhood pilot projects enabled municipalities to learn what it takes to start energy transition. Based on a city survey carried out across 26 local governments, key findings from this report call on national and local governments joining up their efforts to take place-based measures.

Up the Ratios Bylaws - a Comprehensive Process of Our Organizationuptheratios
Up the Ratios is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap in STEM education for underprivileged students by providing free, high-quality learning opportunities in robotics and other STEM fields. Our mission is to empower the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and problem-solvers by offering a range of educational programs that foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.
At Up the Ratios, we believe that every student, regardless of their socio-economic background, should have access to the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in today's technology-driven world. To achieve this, we host a variety of free classes, workshops, summer camps, and live lectures tailored to students from underserved communities. Our programs are designed to be engaging and hands-on, allowing students to explore the exciting world of robotics and STEM through practical, real-world applications.
Our free classes cover fundamental concepts in robotics, coding, and engineering, providing students with a strong foundation in these critical areas. Through our interactive workshops, students can dive deeper into specific topics, working on projects that challenge them to apply what they've learned and think creatively. Our summer camps offer an immersive experience where students can collaborate on larger projects, develop their teamwork skills, and gain confidence in their abilities.
In addition to our local programs, Up the Ratios is committed to making a global impact. We take donations of new and gently used robotics parts, which we then distribute to students and educational institutions in other countries. These donations help ensure that young learners worldwide have the resources they need to explore and excel in STEM fields. By supporting education in this way, we aim to nurture a global community of future leaders and innovators.
Our live lectures feature guest speakers from various STEM disciplines, including engineers, scientists, and industry professionals who share their knowledge and experiences with our students. These lectures provide valuable insights into potential career paths and inspire students to pursue their passions in STEM.
Up the Ratios relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to continue our work. Contributions of time, expertise, and financial support are crucial to sustaining our programs and expanding our reach. Whether you're an individual passionate about education, a professional in the STEM field, or a company looking to give back to the community, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.
We are proud of the positive impact we've had on the lives of countless students, many of whom have gone on to pursue higher education and careers in STEM. By providing these young minds with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, we are not only changing their futures but also contributing to the advancement of technology and innovation on a broader scale.
Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

1. Pillar 1.b. Innovation technological change and well-being:
Rural innovation eco-systems and restructuring global value chains
24th Septembre . 15:00- 16:30, The Plaza, Seoul
The 12th OECD Rural Development Conference, Delivering Rural Well-being is part of the OECD Rural
Conference Series since 2002. These events provide an international forum to share lessons on rural
development policies among national, regional and local policy officials, international experts, civil society and
private sector representatives whilst strengthening existing networks and fostering knowledge-sharing. The
conference Delivering Well-being will discuss the importance of enhancing innovative practices, undertaking
demographic trends and fomenting a transition to a low carbon economy to delivery wellbeing in rural areas.
Aim of the session:
The OECD defines innovation as “the implementation of a new or significantly improved product (good or
service) or process, a new marketing method, or a new organisational method in business practices, workplace
organisation or external relations”. Because many rural regions are exposed to domestic and international
markets outside their regions, they need to focus on increasing productivity to remain competitive. Innovation
is a fundamental force for economic growth and boost productivity. Furthermore, new technologies (3D
printers, drones) and processes (e.g. data driven production) could change the traditional production of
products and services towards a much more distributed and mobile production fueled by further reduction in
transportation costs.
This session aims to take stock of policies, initiatives and programmes that can foster innovation in rural areas
and upscale their participation in the GVC, particularly by sharing experiences in establishing innovation
ecosystems in rural areas.
Guiding questions:
How to foster innovation in rural areas?
How can innovation be measured- are patents a good measurement?
What examples of innovations in rural areas you have? How scalable are?
Can new technologies offer different opportunities for innovative business in rural areas?
Type of Session:
Plenary Session
Speakers will be sitting in armchairs at the stage.
Presentations will be given in ted talk style , encouraging speaker to walk around the stage
Session Structure:
[Moderator and 5 speakers sit in armchairs at the stage]
[Moderator will have a tablet on his hands to see the questions from the public, which will use a
participatory software- Glisser- to address questions]
Moderator introduce the topic, state the main question to be addressed and present speakers (7
minutes).
