NPCA Innovation Series - Final Report

Editor's Notes

  • #6 Before I dive into what we’ve done so far and where we’re going, I wanted to give a bit a history as to how this idea came about. The idea originally came from Google – they do this great series called “Google Tech Talks” – which actually have little to do with technology most of the time. They’re lunchtime talks where they bring in an outside speaker who’s an expert in their field- from biochemistry to meditation…
  • #7 And they do this because they want to give folks a fresh perspective. And that’s because we know that one of the key tenants of innovation is to constantly be searching for outside perspectives – to jump into different fishbowls. Which is why we bring in outside speakers. And also why we have brainstorming sessions with diverse groups – so that people can hear the perspectives of colleagues outside of their department and/or team.
  • #9 We’ve had 4 sessions so far (briefly go over each session and what it covered)
  • #16 Go over online components, talk about how we’re building them, etc.
  • #33 Need to continue to work out technology bugs with engaging remote staff (i.e. technical difficulties)Lack of a strong leadership presenceSome suggestions on scheduling
  • #34 Need to continue to work out technology bugs with engaging remote staff (i.e. technical difficulties)Lack of a strong leadership presenceSome suggestions on scheduling
  • #35 Need to continue to work out technology bugs with engaging remote staff (i.e. technical difficulties)Lack of a strong leadership presenceSome suggestions on scheduling
  • #43 Develop an ongoing “NPCA innovation archive” to capture and compile innovative projects/approaches at NPCA and elsewhere (that can be stored on Parkpoint) and be used to inform each other of new ways of thinking and new possibilities about how to apply these new ideas. A great example of meaningful content that could be captured to add to the NPCA Innovation Archive would be to videotape the “Cool Projects” and “Cool Parks” presentations that are developed for Annual and Regional Meetings. This resource would be a terrific tool to share innovative approaches that NPCA staff members are using to achieve their program or departmental goals and give ideas that we can learn from and apply to our own work.
