Why Did Johnstown Happen
The Johnstown Flood was a catastrophe that occurred in Western Pennsylvania on May 13st of 1889.
The flood occurred when a dam on the Little Conemaugh River, South Fork Dam, failed to support
heavy rainfall flow that caused the river to swell and the dam to be overloaded. Unfortunately, a short
fourteen miles down the river lived the people of Johnstown. Johnstown was a prosperous yet modest
western Pennsylvania town. The town had an iron company called Cambria Iron Company, which
employed most of its men in producing steel products. The town, at the time, had a few phones, three
local newspapers, and a handful of saloons. At the time, they were self sufficient.
Interestingly enough, fourteen miles up the valley, South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, was set in
the mountains and was a popular summer destination for the wealthy of Pittsburgh. At the time,
Pittsburgh was ages ahead of the little town of Johnstown comparatively. The wealthy, including
Andrew Carnegie, even had a home at the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, which was ideal for

Streams formed that had never been there before, and rivers in the surrounding area rose more than a
foot per hour. Johnstown had water in its streets, which was nothing new to them, but this time it was
different. There was an air of fear around them. Surrounding railroad tracks were washed out
throughout the day as the storm progressed. Eventually, nothing could move east or west, and all trains
were stopped. Overnight, people at the club upriver noticed that the lake rose two feet over night. The
spillway definitely couldn t handle more water. Debris accumulated around the innovative fish screens
that were put in place to make fishing easy and leisurely for the wealthy. The damns engineer left at
11:30 in hops of getting a message to Johnstown. In addition, a crew gathered in an effort to free
spillway and raise the top of the

Investigating Cableways And Design An Efficient Vertical...
Summary
To investigate cableways and design an efficient vertical transportation system for goods, in the hilltop
communities of Nepal.
My research established an understanding of existing cableway technology and explored a practical
engineering improvement for adaptation in developing countries. I identified that engineering, a topic
of personal interest, should be the field of research considered. A discussion with university students
was completed to find a specific issue that I could investigate. One topic suggested for investigation
from the EngineersWithoutBorders Challenge, inspired the research question.
The outcome format, a report, discussed my key findings and recommendations including; the nature
of cableways, influence of local topography, and constraints of existing technology. The majority of
my secondary sources were reports written by academics or aid organisations, found on the web.
Emailed questionnaires and personal interviews provided critical information and practical critique of
the design outcome. Analysis of findings combined with creative thinking enabled a resolution of the
research question. This was presented in the form of a proposed design at the conclusion of the
outcome report.

Winter Break Research Paper
During the winter break, I did a lot of things and I spent most of the time with my family and friends.
One of the things, I did during the break was to go meet my uncle in Hayward, California. It was a
very long drive but it was worth it. When we went there I met cousins who I haven t seen for a long
time. Then my cousins and I went to the mall to do some shopping. Then on our way back from the
mall, we went to theater to watch a movie. We spent our Christmas in Hayward and I got a lot of
presents. Then we came back to Bakersfield one day after Christmas. Second thing, I did was that I
went to go meet my elementary friend. She wanted me to come over to her house. So I went to her
house and we did a lot of stuff. First, we baked cupcakes and cookies. Then we watched a movie and
after that we played ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We played musical chairs and many other games. I also read a book called Nory Ryan s Song by
Patricia Reilly Giff during the winter break. For New Year s my cousins from New York came and we
celebrated it in Bakersfield. When they came, my dad and I went to go pick them up from the airport.
On our way back from the airport, we stopped at In N Out Burger to get something to eat. They stayed
in Bakersfield for 5 days. We planned a party for the New Year s which was pretty fun. One night we
planned to stay awake the whole night just to see if we can stay awake. But none of us stayed awake
for the whole night. When all the days passed and they had to leave, I was pretty sad that they were
leaving. In the spare that I had in this break, I watched T.V, listened to music, and read books. When
there was only one days left of winter break. I was sad because I didn t want to go to school. The day
before our school started, my whole family went to eat dinner at an Indian restaurant. So this winter
break was really fun and I spent it with my family and friends. These were some of the things I did

Essay On Endocytic Pathway
In a departure from the general trend towards conservation with other fungi such as Sc, Ca, and Mo,
Cn appears to adapt a distinct Cin1 Wsp1 endocytic pathway for transport, growth, and virulence
{Shen, 2010 #5449} that is different from the Pan1 Las17/Bee1 pathway functioning in other fungi.
Both Cin1 and Wsp1 display domain structures more similar, but not identical, to human ITSN1 and
WASp than to Sc/Ca Pan1 and Las17/Bee1 {Shen, 2011 #5640;Shen, 2012 #5719}. These findings
inferred a unique intracellular transport process functioning in Cn and raised several intriguing
questions. Does Cn have only one endocytic pathway mediated by Cin1/Wsp1? As endocytic proteins
function by interacting with other proteins, what are the other ... Show more content on

It was also reported that the MATα strain could sustain dominance over the isogenic MATa strain in
the brain, raising an interesting aspect of virulence while substantiating the result of an early report
{Nielsen, 2005 #5284; Kwon Chung, 1992}. The intriguing finding that Cin1 S maintains a CNS
survival advantage provides a novel avenue to probe the CNS propensity of Cn. Finally, given the
importance of exRNA in cellular communications, it is tempting to speculate that Cin1 regulates
uptake and export of exRNA to play a role in host pathogen interactions and pathogenesis. Taken
together, we may possess an unprecedented system to probe the mechanisms of pathogenesis in Cn.
C. Approach Cn is a haploid basidiomycetous fungus with a defined life cycle. It also proves to be a
tractable research model in which classic and molecular approaches, as well as both in vitro and in
vivo models, are available for studying host pathogen interactions and pathogenesis. In addition,
genomic and proteomic approaches including microarray, whole transcriptome shotgun sequencing
(RNA Seq), and proteomics were all employed in studying pathogenesis of Cn {Perfect, 2012
#5739;Liu, 2014 #5807;Bruni, 2017 #5977}. The well established model organism and available
research resources will be invaluable for us to pursue our research goals.

Asian Family Essay
Being the biggest continent in the world, Asia contains about 60% of the world s population and
growing each year. Though China, and India are two of the most populated countries in the world,
having about 30% of the world s population, there are about two fifths of the countries that have less
than five million habitants. Though forty two different countries make up this great continent, much of
the similarities are family values. Customs and traditions might be different, however, western ideas
and influences have wiped out many of those customs and created new ones in most of the countries
in Asia. Even in comparison from country to country, the new ways and ideas are similar. The basic
Asian family would be the same as in any family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unity is preserved and family name is heavily cherished. Asians strongly believe that problems must
be kept within the family, and that problems are a blemish upon the family name as quoted by Lien
Roberts, a Vietnamese mother. Immigration is also very popular amongst Asians. Many immigrate to
democratic places such as the United States, Great Britain, and Canada. Many believe before they
emigrate, that their new land will be much better than the one they currently occupy. Just in the
Greater Toronto Area, there are about 380,000 Chinese Canadians as reported by Tony Wong from The
Toronto Star. As reported by Mr. Wong, China is the major source of immigration to Canada.
However, China isn t the only place where immigration comes from. Place such as Taiwan, Malaysia,
Singapore, and even India, Mauritius, and Jamaica also has emigrants to Canada. Three point four
percent of the entire population of the United States is Asian and each year, that number is getting
greater and greater. Because the United States gives them a better opportunity for growth, much if the
Asia s immigration goes here. After battling racism for about a century, the Asian population in the
United States is the fastest growing ethnic group in the country. Today, Asian Americans are the fastest
growing U.S. minority, increasing at fifteen times the rate of non Hispanic whites, and doubling in just
the past ten years. The growth is phenomenal. Sociologist James M. Henslin states that most

Plato s Classical Athenian Architecture, Drama, And Arts
Plato
Plato was born around 428 B.C., Both of Plato s parents were from distinguished aristocratic families.
Besides being born into an illustrious family, Plato was born into an illustrious city. He was born in
the wake of Athens s Golden Age, the period that had witnessed Athens s the beginning of the
strongest Greek power, the birth of classical Athenian architecture, drama, and arts. His father Ariston
died when he was a child. His mother Perictione remarried the politician Pyrilampes. He was educated
in philosophy, poetry and gymnastics by distinguished Athenian teachers including the philosopher
Cratylus.
It was also at an early age, probably in adolescence, that Plato began to hear Socrates, who engaged a
variety of people in Athens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plato what is at stake is a clash between what we might call comprehensive world views; it seems that
matters of grave importance in ethics, politics, metaphysics, theology, and e are at stake. Plato agrees
that Homer is indeed the educator of Greece, and immediately adds that Homer is the most poetic and
first of the tragic poets. Plato is setting himself against what he takes to be the entire outlook in
contemporary. Since Homer shaped the popular culture of the times, Plato is setting himself against
popular culture as he knew it. Plato has in his sights all of poetry, contending that its influence is
pervasive and often harmful, and that its insite about nature and the divine are mistaken.
It is not easy to understand what Plato means by poetry, whether it is dangerous because of its form or
content or both. These questions are complicated by the fact that Plato was not thinking of poetry as a
written text read in silence; he had in mind performances, often experienced in theater. When Socrates
and Plato conducted their inquiries, poetry was far more influential than what Plato calls philosophy.
Few people today would imagine that there is any interesting relation between poetry and rhetoric. To
think of great poets as rhetoricians seems weird, and most rhetoricians do not seem to know the first
thing about poetry. Yet Plato himself associates the two very closely: at Gorgias he characterizes

Importance Of Freedom Of Speech
Democracy is founded on the belief that every citizen has an equal say in all matters of life and
government affecting them. Even before democratic governments were formed, civilizations would
come together with different ideas and cultures to unite in the common goal of helping each other
grow as a species. Through this unification process civilizations were able to adapt to challenges and
advance their technology faster than ever before. Sometimes an agenda or belief becomes split
amongst several parties and differences of opinions can create a less than cordial argument about what
is right and what is wrong. It is in these moments of confrontation that the importance of free speech
becomes essential to finding a resolution that fits the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1791 the first Amendment was introduced guaranteeing the freedom of religion, press, assembly,
and speech. The most common abuse of free speech is when it is used as a means to verbally attack
someone personally or a subject inappropriately. All too often racial slurs are yelled out or
homophobic insults directed towards someone even though these statements have nothing to do with
the topic at hand. It seems that belittling someone for something they can t change is one of the go to
ways of expressing free speech. Catherine Rampell from the Washington Post states; For example,
when students were asked whether the First Amendment protects hate speech, 4 in 10 said no. This is,
of course, incorrect. Speech promoting hatred or at least, speech perceived as promoting hatred may
be abhorrent, but it is nonetheless constitutionally protected (Rampell A Chilling Study Shows How
Hostile College Students Are Toward Free Speech). Having a different opinion is beneficial; it creates
debates which allow the flow of clear and factual information to pass between the debating sides, but
when you begin to belittle a person and make it a personal battle you lose sight of the actual goal.
Secondly, it creates intolerance or animosity towards the opposing side due to the lack of empathy.
More often than not you share more similarities than differences with the opposing side on separate
subjects or ideas of what s right and wrong. By simply taking a moment to step

minor parts in the WWE and are often seen as Katz says bit players in a male narrative, as sexual

when this happens it is nearly always presented in the context that the woman deserves it or her
actions have led to the punishment. As Kat says, when you make this sort of abuse fun and

women. (Jhally, 2003). There

However, I am not here to praise the Communist party of Vietnam. It is my firm belief that the
Americans should have won this war, and that Vietnam should never have been divided in the first
place, as this gave them the power to reclaim their land, piece by piece.
The people of Vietnam have become overconfident, and believe that they are entitled to claim their

Cloud Gate Visual Analysis
Art can speak to people in many different ways. Art stimulates viewers visual senses, and allows them
to express themselves in ways they could have never thought possible. Cloud Gate, commonly
referred to as The Bean , is an intriguing art piece. Kapoor s Cloud Gate sculpture challenges viewers
to contemplate self image, three dimensional life, and religion through its structure and appearance.
Cloud Gate reaches a wide range of people because of its popularity. It has become Chicago s second
largest tourist attraction. The sculpture was constructed in 2004, but its official dedication to Chicago s
Millennium Park took place in 2006. Since then, it has been featured in the press quite a bit. Many
movies, including The Break Up, have given this marvelous art piece a cameo. The Bean can also be
seen in Kanye West s music video, Homecoming . This allows the beauty of The Bean to shine
worldwide. Some of the popularity of the art can also be contributed to its media debuts.

The sculpture is built to appear as both an ovary and a testical. This may make some people
uncomfortable, but it coneys an important message. Men and women play very separate roles in
society, today. It seems to be hard for men and women to relate to one another. Friendships between
the opposite genders are becoming less common. This may be because people fear expressing
themselves in front of the opposite gender. Men might feel as if they look less masculine when doing
things such as shopping or buying flowers. Similarly, women may feel that they are coming off as less
feminine when they go to the gym or change a tire. Kapoor s Cloud Gate sculpture is a reminder that
we are all equal. We should not separate ourselves according to gender, in fact, we should unify.
People should be able to do things that they enjoy without fearing

Why Is Resilience Important
Dear, Parents In this unit I have learnt about the importance of Resilience. I believe the most
important aspects of resiliency are appreciation, optimism, and coping with stress. To be resilient is to
bounce back in the face of adversity, depression, tragedy, and other sources of stress. It s a cycle that
many people get stuck in until they pick themselves back up. You experience, you feel, you fail, you
hurt, and you fall. But, you keep on going anyways. Mandy Oaklander conveys that humans tend to
stress over everything. Even if it s a waitress messing up your order, or getting a C on a project
(Guilty), and the list goes on and on. I often deal with stress at least once every month and I don t even
realize it . This is where Mandy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because we believe we don t deserve it. we would rather appreciate other who deserve it and not

appreciate ourselves? Sometimes, we believe that the universe has shaped our reality and who we
really are, but I believe it s just all in our heads. Shawn Anchor conveys that, We re finding it s not
necessarily the reality that shapes us, but the lens through which your brain views the world that
shapes your reality. And if we can change the lens, not only can we change your happiness, we can

that we see the world. If we can change how we look at the world maybe we can change our
happiness, opportunities, and happiness, opportunities, and for the better. Sometimes I find the world
unfair and totally unpredictable. I find it hard to find my life going well when it s hard for me to look
at the bright side of things when my life just isn t functioning the way it s supposed to. My fears and

Essay about The Catcher in the Rye
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is a controversial book from many aspects. There was a public
uproar when it was primarily released in 1951, mainly due to the profanity and sexual exploitation
within. Salinger was able to construct the text in a unique manner, writing from the perspective of a
highly critical, lonely and depressed 17 year old boy, Holden Caulfield, who recounts an incident
which occurred one year ago. Holden was expelled from Pencey Prep, a rich and well known prep
school with a good reputation. He dropped out due to academic failure but claimed that he could ve

Holden is very judgmental of others around him and quick to criticize the decisions they make, only to
exhibit similar faults himself at some point in time. Nevertheless, I believe that the unique and
somewhat arrogant view of the protagonist is an imperative component of the text which makes it
stand out from many others. Throughout the course of the novel, the author often uses Holden s
narration to personally discuss his relationship with his siblings. Undoubtedly, the death of Holden s
beloved brother Allie had a staggering influence on him. Although the incident does not occur
throughout Holden s 3 day journey (it happened when he was 13), he makes constant reference to it
and the impact it has on him in the present. Even though Allie was younger than Holden, the author
was able to depict that Holden adored and looked up to Allie in many ways. Allie s death was most
likely the major cause of Holden s depression, frequent feeling of loneliness and bitter perspective on
life and the actions of those around him. It can be speculated that Allie s death damaged Holden
mentally and is the cause for his behavior. Holden still treasures Allie s old baseball glove on which he
wrote many renowned and inspirational lines of poetry. Holden s relationship with Phoebe is possibly
one of the most important things to him in life. Phoebe looks

Imagery in Slaughterhouse-Five
Kurt Vonnegut s uses many images to enhance the overall effect of Slaughterhouse Five. Throughout
the novel, in both war scenes and in the protagonist s travels back and forward in time, the many
images produce a believable story of the unusual life of Billy Pilgrim. Vonnegut uses color imagery,
repetitive images, and images of pain and suffering to develop the novel and create situations that the
reader can accept and comprehend.
Billy Pilgrim s life is far from normal. Throughout most of his adult life he has been moving
backwards and forwards through time, from one event to another, in a non sequential order. At least,
this schizophrenic life is hard to understand. Because Vonnegut wants the reader to relate to Billy ...

. . going backwards into pre birth, which was red light and bubbling sounds quot; (43). The careful
and vivid depiction of colors enables the reader to relate to the experience.
Vonnegut also uses many images in a repetitive fashion. He talks about the blue and ivory feet several
times, as well as the pattern of orange and black that appears both on the train taking prisoners to the
war camp and on the wedding tent for Billy s daughter (69, 72). Furthermore, sleepers (Vonnegut and
his wife, people in the prison camps) are repeatedly described as being quot;nestled like spoons quot;
(70). Another common image is that of moonlight in chapter four. In several places during this
chapter, the image of moonlight suggests a mood of serenity and stillness. Additionally, the image of
the soldiers hobbling up and down is repeated several times. This image stretches from the relentless
bobbing up and down, up and down of the soldiers to the Tralfamadorian novel where the characters
quot;certainly had their ups and downs, ups and downs quot; (87).
Another important technique is Vonnegut s use of dark, grizzly images of pain and suffering. Many of
the long, descriptive passages of the novel are grotesque stories from the war or terrible memories
from Billy Pilgrim s consciousness. One of these images involves a latrine

What Makes a Just Society Essay
What Makes A Just Society?
Throughout history, people have been trying to create an improved, fair, and equal system of justice,
not only to better society in which one lives, but to also find a sense of meaning in what
responsibilities people should hold within their civilizations in order to create this just way of living.
As early as the Old Testament within the Bible, we see examples of how the Hebrews formed their
own justice. This can be seen in the in text of the Ten Commandments which were written in a form of
law. Laws were significant even in this basic form of context, such as the Ten Commandments, which
offered the ideas of right and wrongdoings and the sin for violating others for one s own benefit. This

The idea then of a just society I contend, comes down to people living under a fair and common law,
order, political system, social organization, as well as everyone having personal and political freedom.
Many people, besides myself, have also contemplated this question, whether a utopian society could
exist, and have put forth their own theories. Karl Marx and John Rawls are two thinkers that
questioned what the theory of justice. Marx believed that history was always moving forward towards
a utopian ending. Marx disliked injustice and declared this in his Communist Manifesto in 1846. His
theory is centered on the idea that forms of society rise and fall as they develop and then became an
obstacle for the development of human productive power and reality is governed by economic needs.
This belief means that the present organization of society must be destroyed. To establish this new
society, people must be organized and take up the struggle against the capitalists who take advantage
of them. This struggle, according to Marx, will end in victory for the workers. However, Marx was
unable to discover what laws and principles that would produce the just society in which he strived
for. John Rawls was the second most important political thinker of his time. His main contribution to
the idea of a civil society is his theory of justice. Rawls believed in social primary goods which
included rights,

Ethical and Legal Debates on Assisted Suicide and...
One of the greatest miracles in life, is life itself, but where is life there s death. So as unexpected as
life is shall death be the same, or can we choose on how we leave this earth. Over the years, the laws
and ethical consternation regarding the debatable subject of euthanasia and assisted suicide, have been
questioned frequently by society. Though the question may never be answered between euthanasia and
assisted suicide being right or wrong, the fact of the matter is that people are still choosing their fate.

Which would grant the patient death by natural causes.
Whether your for or against euthanasia or assisted suicide, one major part between life and death is the
cost of living. The price for End of Life care and life support has skyrocket over the past few years
because of technology. Although technology has improved over the years on sustaining life, it has not
been proving to cure certain illness, and the cost of certain machines can well but medical bills in the
thousands. In the United States alone, millions of people have no medical insurance, and the elderly,
the poor and minorities are often denied adequate treatment thats needed. Even doctors are being
forced by HMOs to lower the care for patients who can t afford it. Drugs for assisted suicide cost on
an average of $75 to $100, which makes them far less expensive than supplying medical care.
However, it s the patient that makes the ultimate decision between suffering with disease, or accepting
euthanasia/ assisted suicide. A person has the right to die with dignity, and since there is many
successful cases of assisted suicide a patient can only feel confident on making a big decision. For
example the death of P. Matheny was widely known as a successful assisted suicide. P. Matheny was

Austrian British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein once said, The real question of life after death isn t
whether or not it exists, but even if it does what problem this really solves. The idea that death is
inevitable is well known by everyone, yet no one is certain as to what happens afterwards. Even
though the subject of life after death has been argued for centuries by many philosophers and
theologians. In the article Sign Here If You Exist, Jill Sisson Quinn adequately employs figurative
language, rhetoric questionings, and personal anecdotes to demonstrate a controversial argument on
the topic of life after death. In her article, Quinn uses multiple figurative languages to strengthen her
claim that life after death does not exist. This is a very opinionated piece therefore using figurative
language such as metaphors, simile, diction and symbols help enhance the validity of the author s
argument, while effectively giving her opinion to the readers in a subdued manner. Quinn s use of the
Ichneumon wasp as a symbol for the process of human life is a subtle way of writing it. Her article
starts off with a detailed description of the physical features of a Female Giant Ichneumon Wasp,
which then proceeds to a biology based background explanation on the specie. During her
descriptions, Quinn uses carefully chosen words that is meant to let the reader go beyond imagining
the wasp and to think of it as something more. She explains Her overall appearance of fragility the

The textbook talks about increasing marginal values by recruiting, hiring and retaining quality
teachers. The school currently has dedicated and wonderful teachers who are willing to sacrifice
higher paying public school positions and teach at the Christian school because they love the spiritual
and family like school atmosphere. However, the school has to face the fact that less than 25% of
teachers have advanced degrees currently. To be academically competitive with public schools and
other private schools in the vicinity, hiring more high caliber teachers is an absolute necessity. This
again is a costly endeavor. Creating differentiated salary ranges suggested by the author in the text
might be a good way to recruit quality teachers without financially burdening parents too much.
Achieving academic excellence will help to attract parents who want their children to receive
spiritually sound as well as academically challenging quality education.
Maintaining and upgrading facilities is another area that needs attention. Replacing an old roof and
applying a fresh coat of paints inside and outside of the building will project more welcoming feeling
to potential parents and students. Repurposing existing offices and classrooms and upgrading media
center should be considered in strategic planning.

profit that nobody knew how and why. The movie, Enron, The smartest guy in the room shows that
the company was cooking their books making it look like the company was making a lot of profit. The

Skilling and CFO Andrew Fastow. The narrator describes the company as a cooperation that is greedy
and fraudulent and later turns bankrupt. We are showed that top executives of Enron held their own

scandalous things by fixing the market so the people would invest in the company. Instead of fixing

A Pipettes Evaluation
I Kyle McGeary have done all of the work on Exam 1 by myself without the help of anyone else. 1.
The class did very well in terms of the accuracy and precision of class A pipettes. The tolerance for
class A pipettes is ±.006 for 1mL, ±.01 for 5 mL, and ± .02 for 10 mL (. As a whole the class did rather
well in terms of the expected accuracy and precision of the class A glassware. I found the expected
values from a website. The student who had the best calibration was student number 1. There recorded
values were within the closest range of each pipette. I believe that my data is not within the best
simply because, one; my one mL pipette was not delivering the entire amount of water, two; I was
pretty relaxed in my measurements, I will be honest and say that I did not ensure that each draw was
perfect, in which I did not check at eye level if the bottom of the meniscus was exactly on the line. So
in order to be more accurate, I could make sure and try to make perfect draws every time. Avg 1mL

data collected was very consistent; the weights of the washers recorded all remained very close in
value. As a result of this, it shows that the scale remained calibrated and constant, for it gave accurate
and precise readings of mass. Good laboratory practices that relate to equipment calibration consist of
making sure you actually regularly calibrate your laboratory equipment. In doing this you are making

Richard II Essay examples
Richard II
Life:
He was born in Bordeaux France on January 6, 1367. He was the son of Edward the Black Prince and
the grandson of King Edward III. Richard succeeded to his grandfather s throne on June 22, 1377, at
the young age of ten. Due to his young age the government continued to be run by nobles of the
kingdom, in the same fashion it had been in the last years of his grandfather s reign. These nobles
were dominated by his Uncle John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster.
Guant s misrule brought on quicker economic deterioration that was being caused by the Black Death
and the Hundred Years War, being fought against France. The result of this misrule was the Peasant s
Revolt of 1381. Richard, in handling the first big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gaunt was able to keep the peace between the factions until, in July 1386, he left England to pursue
his own dynastic ambitions in Castile, Spain. By leaving Gaunt left Richard at the mercy of his
enemies, who instigated Parliament to impeach his chancellor, Michael de la Pole, Earl of Suffolk, and
created an eleven man commission to oversee the king s activities for a year. When Richard declared
these measures treasonable violations of the royal prerogative, his opponents retaliated by having the
Parliament of 1388 outlaw his closest friends, some of whom were executed. The defenseless king
submitted to the five principal opposition leaders, the appellants, until May of 1389. In May he
announced his intention to rule as an independent monarch of full age.
Gaunt s return from Spain in 1389 stabilized the situation and Richard worked in apparent harmony
with the Gaunt and the appellant lords for eight years. But in actuality the king spent this time waiting
for an opportunity to avenge himself against his former enemies. He slowly made a second royalist
party, that was stronger then the first. By 1397 he was ready to strike, he had Arundel convicted of
treason and executed; Warwick was banished and Gloucester imprisoned and murdered.
In September of 1398 a quarrel between two former appellants broke out, Gaunt s son Henry
Bolingbroke and Thomas Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk. This quarrel gave the king a chance to banish

Ethical Dilemma For Mobilizing Reserve Soldiers
Ethical Dilemma for Mobilizing Reserve Soldiers The face of how Army Reserve Soldiers mobilize to
support contingency operations around the globe has changed very drastically in the last half century.
In their report titled, Reserve Component Personnel Issues: Questions and Answers (2013), Kapp and
Torreon noted the increased pressure on reservists and employers: From 1945 to 1989, reservists were
involuntarily activated by the federal government four times, an average of less than once per decade.
Since 1990, reservists were involuntarily activated six times for contingency operations, an average of
once every four years, including large scale mobilizations for the Persian Gulf War (1990 1991)
totaling 238,729, and in the aftermath ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that mobilizations have increased so fast causes employers, especially small business, a hard

Outcomes, and Virtues, Reserve Sergeants Major can help answer ethical challenges related to
mobilizing Reserve Soldiers and the impacts they cause on Soldiers and their employers. Overall

Arab Israeli Conflict Essays
The Arab Israeli conflict is a struggle between the Jewish state of Israel and the Arabs of the Middle
East concerning the area known as Palestine. The term Palestine has been associated variously and
sometimes controversially with this small region. Both the geographic area designated by and the
political status of the name have changed over the course of some three millennia. The region, or a
part of it, is also known as the Holy Land and is held sacred among Jews, Christians, and Muslims. In
the twentieth century it has been the object of conflicting claims of Jewish and Arab national
movements, and the conflict has led to prolonged violence and in several instances open warfare
opposing Israel s existence. These wars, which occurred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both movements aimed at uniting their peoples in a national homeland. They were to converge and
confront each other in Palestine where, it was initially thought by some, they could each achieve their
aspirations in an atmosphere of mutual accommodation. The two movements, in fact, proved
incompatible and the majority of Arab suffering resulted. Beginning in the 1800 s, oppression of Jews
in Eastern Europe sparked a mass emigration of Jewish refugees. Some Jews formed a movement
called Zionism, which sought to make Palestine an independent Jewish nation. The first Zionist
Congress was held in Switzerland in 1897 and it issued the Basle programme on the colonization of
Palestine and the establishment of the World Zionist Organization (WZO). Then, in 1906, The Zionist
congress decided the Jewish homeland should be Palestine. The only problem was that there already
was a large Arab Palestinian population inhabiting the area. For this reason, Zionism was used as a
propagandist tool to rid Palestine of the Arabs and to start a new nation for the Jews. A look at the
fabric of Jewish Zionists that emigrated to Israel exhibited the driving forces and it displayed how
massively the movement developed. For Russian Jews, it was the desire to escape totalitarian
oppression. Religious Jews went there hoping for the day of messianic redemption. Still others,

The Reorganization Of Structural Components Of Tumors Essay
6. EDC exposure elicits oncogenic changes in matrix components and tumor architecture The
importance of extracellular matrix (ECM) composition, stiffness, 3D architecture and its influence cell
proliferation, differentiation, migration and survival have been well characterized(Jansen et al., 2015)
(Kourouklis, Kaylan, Underhill, 2016; Yang et al., 2016) (Coombs, Leonard, Rush, Santistevan,
Hedberg Dirk, 2016; Rammensee, Kang, Georgiou, Kumar, Schaffer, 2016; Subbiah et al., 2016).Cells
can sense discreet changes in ECM make up, and have been shown to behave differently in a 2D in
vitro setting compared to in 3D in vitro culture (Alessandri et al., 2014; Lu et al., 2013). While the
precise mechanism remains to be defined, the tumor stiffness has been implicated as a potential
initiator of metastasis and tumor progression (Fenner et al., 2014). The reorganization of structural
components of tumors has been shown to enhance both tumor formation and metastasis,
demonstrating a structural link between density, the stromal component, and the tumor (Chaudhuri et
al., 2014). Furthermore, epithelial cells are known to respond to changes in environmental stiffness
enhancing proliferation and cell motility (Chaudhuri et al., 2014). The composition of the architecture
of tumors differs from that of normal tissue both in molecular makeup and mechanical properties
(rigidity and tensile forces) (Hansen Bissell, 2000)Tumor cells will react to changes in architecture

The Importance Of Science And Science
In the modern world, science and math make up everything around us. The world we live in now
exists because of science and math, but there was a time when people didn t like math and science. A
time when people would rather believe religion and logic, then math, science, and evidence.
Narrator Michael Mosley tells a story of science. He says the story of one of the great upheavals in
human history was how we came to understand that our planet was not at the center of everything in
the cosmos but just one of billions of bodies in a vast and expanding universe. In Greece, at the temple
of Apollo, there was the city of Delphi, where many greeks would go because they belived there was a
stone that was in the middle of the Earth and the middle of the universe. Greek scientists believed that
the Earth remained still, while the rest of the stars and planets moved around us and Earth was in the
middle of the cosmos.
For thousands of years, people believed that the Earth was in the middles of the universe. They even
built equipment that further fueled their belief. In modern times, we know this isn t true, so how did
people stop believing? It started in the 17th century.
During the 17th centruy, Europe was in turmoil. Religion and new rules were sweeping across the
nation. It was during this time that Rudolph II, who ruled Prague, wanted new discoveries. Prague was
at the center of wealth and power, so Rudolph II wanted to show it. Enter Tycho Brahe, a Danish

Importance Of Speeding
While many deadly vehicle wrecks involve two or more vehicles crashing into each other, a recent
single car crash demonstrates why it is important to be a cautious driver even when there are not other
vehicles around you. The crash, resulting in the death of a 14 year old boy and injuries to three other
people, happened when the driver came to the top of a hill at a high speed. The man lost control of his
vehicle and ended up going off the side of the road and crashing. There are several things you should
do to ensure a safer driving experience whenever you are on the road.
Maintain a speed that allows you to always be in control of your vehicle. While speed limits are a

Clockwork Orange Punishment
Nietzsche s Good and Evil Taken to the Extreme in the Chaotic Society of A Clockwork Orange.
When it comes to a prime example of questioning morality in Kubrick s films A Clockwork Orange is
a go to case study of free will and the morality of judgement and punishment. The film is an analysis
of humanity and explores topics such as aversion therapy which is not just a dystopian fantasy but
exists in the real world. It analyses punishment and examines the justice system both with portraying
the classic punishment method like the prison and the rehabilitation method.
Gehkre states that:
The clockwork metaphor has long been a tradition of western sciences, both physical and social.

With the help of Alex s perspective, the film also criticises the choices society makes. Going back to
Nietzsche s views on morality, it is worth noting that he condemns the Judeo Christian morality as too
strict and unhealthy. However, using that philosophy A Clockwork Orange again shows the opposite
as the society and law system s ethics are very much radical and they believe that the only way they
could eradicate the crime and chaos in society is to take people s right of choice. In their criminology
analysis of A Clockwork Orange Lichtenberg, Lune and McManimon (2004) sum up the main issue
concerned in the film with the statemen confirmed by the prison chaplain that: If there is no choice,
there is no morality. Therefore, Kubrick s film focuses on some important questions and problems that
are shown as issues of a dystopian society but are also truly problems present in contemporary society
as well such as: could the spectator blame the establishment for being cruel and immoral if they are
trying their hardest to eradicate relentless crime or is taking someone s free will and right to choose an
inhuman thing to do overall? The title of the film ties in with Alex s journey and character
development as he is transformed and programmed as a machine not able to

The Tyger, The Lamb and Lord of the Rings
To understand The Lamb you must understand The Tiger , and vice versa. These two poems are
unbelievably complicated when trying to search for a real deeper meaning. There is an immense
amount of symbolism used throughout both poems, and many different things can be taken away
about the author s thoughts religion, nature, and the battle between good and evil in one s mind. In the
novel, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien, there is seemingly a lot left up in the air about religion
and the symbolism of nature, but when read the way the author intended, there are a few very strong
themes that resemble those portrayed in The Tyger and The Lamb . Throughout the writings, the two
authors portray nature in a way that allows it to symbolize their own personal thoughts and views on
religion.
Religion and Nature are very closely connected, and in both writings, it is essential to understand this
because nature is conveyed through religion in the poems, and religion is conveyed through nature in
the novel. Nature s connection with religion is shown in the very definition of nature as a creative and
controlling force in the universe (Merriam Webster English Dictionary 2.a). It is very obvious what
religion is: A belief of what created nature. So, if you can understand the religion or nature used in the
writings, you can understand the meaning of the other. When analyzing The Tyger , The Lamb , and
The Lord of the Rings, it is important to understand the authors, so you

The Issue Of The Legality And The War On Drugs
The issue of the legality and the war on drugs has been a hot topic for decades now. Whether or not
the government should have a say in the use of drugs seems like an endless, looping debate. The
increase in drug usage in the United States is undeniable, and many are beginning to question whether
the burden of the war on drugs such as a huge budget and overpopulated prisons is worth it. William
Bennett, the author of Drug Policy and the Intellectuals is part of the opposition and says that indeed it
is worth it. In his text, he argues that Americas intellectuals think that the drug problem in America is
absurdly simple and easily solved and that the drug problem in America is a lost cause . He suggests
that the war on drugs is essential and they aren t taking it seriously. He seems very passionate on the
topic and brings up a lot of valid points which also covers many common rebuttals. On the other hand,
although having good intentions on the matter, there are many fallacies that are obvious and he tends
to use worst case scenarios as a kind of norm. Overall I would rate the essay a 8/10 and say that it is
definitely Toulmin style. Bennett s passionate style of writing makes it clear that he is fairly grounded
to his opinion on drugs and he uses a Toulmin style to best fit his argument and stance. His claim is
that by keeping drugs illegal, we maintain the criminal sanctions that persuade most people that the
good life cannot be reached by dealing drugs (Bennett

Personal Narrative
The air was crisp outside, it was nearing Christmas in our small little city named Belleville. Everyone
seemed to be out and about finishing their last minute Christmas shopping and the city had a busy, but
happy feel to it. The ground had a white blanket of snow on it that had just fallen during the early
hours of the morning. My mom was taking me to the mall so that I could get pictures taken with
Santa, one of my favourite parts about Christmas. As I was sitting in my car seat all bundled up in my
snow suit, clutching my favourite stuffed bunny all I was fixated on was what to ask Santa for
Christmas. I was 7 years old with big brown eyes that glared out the window with the unruliest hair
you could ever imagine. As we stopped at our final red light before our destination, we both witnessed
an extremely bad car wreck. It was one of those car wrecks that seem to happen in slow motion, so
slow that you can almost scream Watch out! . All of a sudden, the women that I viewed as my ordinary
suburban mom dashed out of our warm van to face the crisp, windy weather. That day she risked her
life to save another. She was able to keep the driver of the SUV stable until the ambulance arrived.
This was the first time I ever saw my mom as the true person she is. Selfless, courageous, she stepped
in not even on a first name basis. She didn t know that person in the SUV and they didn t know her.

Essay On Implantative Chemotherapy
Scientists are still working continuously to develop better treatment options including more advanced
forms of chemotherapy to control cancer, with the ultimate goal of a cure. According to the American
Cancer Society, recent research includes new classes of chemotherapy, novel combinations of
chemotherapy medications, and new routes of administering treatment. Some of the most exciting and
promising approaches involve implantable chemotherapy, topical chemotherapy and targeted therapy.
Gliadel wafers are an example of implantable chemotherapy used for brain tumors. Gliadel wafers are
soaked with a chemotherapy drug. After a surgeon operates to remove the cancerous tissue in the
brain, the surgeon implants several dime sized wafers in the space where the tumor once was. The

For example, under Socrates the text states that Socrates believed that absolute standards did exist for
truth and justice. Also, on page 139, there is a chart that describes the similarities and differences of
these three philosophers. This source will immensely help the paper because of its reliability and
information. Another source that will be used for the research paper is focused in on a certain
philosopher. That lover of learning is Aristotle. Aristotle focused more on human belief, thought, and
knowledge. The article is titled Aristotle on Consciousness . The excerpt really goes into depth on
Aristotle s views and beliefs in one s conscious. According to the book, Aristotle believed that
Consciousness played a big part in the minds of people in the early ages. The source is very credible
because it comes from a critically acclaimed book called Mind . The specific page is page 751. This
topic may be very interesting to include in the paper because it something that very much is in effect

Tortuguero
If I could be an animal for a day, I would be a parrot. Parrots can talk, are very colorful, and can fly up
to 60 MPH. Warm climates are were parrots are mainly found. The biggest diversities exist in
Australia, Central America, and South America. There are many different birds that are considered
parrots, such as Macaws, Amazons, Lorikeets, Lovebirds, and Cockatoos. They all have curved beaks.
Most parrots eat, seeds, fruit, flowers, nuts, buds, and some small creatures such as insects. I would
want to be a parrot so I could fly around, and look at all the unique places. When I am a parrot I would
want to go see Tikal. I would be able to fly up to 765 ft high, so I would definitely be able to spot
Tikal. Tikal is located in Guatemala and is an ancient Mayan village that has was abandoned in 900
CE, and built in 600 B.C. This city has towering temples, rising to heights of more than 44m, but is
recognized for its jungle setting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Agatha Christie Rationale
LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale
The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new as stated in the
subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed more towards newer fans, such as
Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know where to start reading her Poirot stories, or to make
sure they don t read a book that spoils another book they have not yet read.
I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John Curran, as I
imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was successful. The movie review on Murder
on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch was a relevant choice as the film has released in theatres
recently so I looked for a mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the novel recipe by
Kate Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who knew every detail
of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking.
I edited the directions of the recipe so that it was easier to understand and follow since I imagined the
audience were probably not dedicated chefs. I divided them into much smaller steps and categorised
the steps for legibility and ease of reading on the screen. For example, Making the Ice Cream became
its own heading. Because this is a publication on the internet, I also envisaged a more international
audience and I edited the material to suit this purpose. Cling film is used in the UK, so I

  • 2. Why Did Johnstown Happen The Johnstown Flood was a catastrophe that occurred in Western Pennsylvania on May 13st of 1889. The flood occurred when a dam on the Little Conemaugh River, South Fork Dam, failed to support heavy rainfall flow that caused the river to swell and the dam to be overloaded. Unfortunately, a short fourteen miles down the river lived the people of Johnstown. Johnstown was a prosperous yet modest western Pennsylvania town. The town had an iron company called Cambria Iron Company, which employed most of its men in producing steel products. The town, at the time, had a few phones, three local newspapers, and a handful of saloons. At the time, they were self sufficient. • 3. Investigating Cableways And Design An Efficient Vertical... Summary To investigate cableways and design an efficient vertical transportation system for goods, in the hilltop communities of Nepal. My research established an understanding of existing cableway technology and explored a practical engineering improvement for adaptation in developing countries. I identified that engineering, a topic of personal interest, should be the field of research considered. A discussion with university students was completed to find a specific issue that I could investigate. One topic suggested for investigation from the EngineersWithoutBorders Challenge, inspired the research question. The outcome format, a report, discussed my key findings and recommendations including; the nature of cableways, influence of local topography, and constraints of existing technology. The majority of my secondary sources were reports written by academics or aid organisations, found on the web. Emailed questionnaires and personal interviews provided critical information and practical critique of the design outcome. Analysis of findings combined with creative thinking enabled a resolution of the research question. This was presented in the form of a proposed design at the conclusion of the outcome report. Evaluation Evaluation of Research Processes Interviews Primary information was obtained by conducting interviews. I underestimated how effective this process would be until I conducted one. Plato has in his sights all of poetry, contending that its influence is pervasive and often harmful, and that its insite about nature and the divine are mistaken. It is not easy to understand what Plato means by poetry, whether it is dangerous because of its form or content or both. These questions are complicated by the fact that Plato was not thinking of poetry as a written text read in silence; he had in mind performances, often experienced in theater. Nevertheless, I believe that the unique and somewhat arrogant view of the protagonist is an imperative component of the text which makes it stand out from many others. Throughout the course of the novel, the author often uses Holden s narration to personally discuss his relationship with his siblings. Undoubtedly, the death of Holden s beloved brother Allie had a staggering influence on him. Although the incident does not occur throughout Holden s 3 day journey (it happened when he was 13), he makes constant reference to it and the impact it has on him in the present. Even though Allie was younger than Holden, the author was able to depict that Holden adored and looked up to Allie in many ways. Allie s death was most likely the major cause of Holden s depression, frequent feeling of loneliness and bitter perspective on life and the actions of those around him. Overall, my data collected was very consistent; the weights of the washers recorded all remained very close in value. As a result of this, it shows that the scale remained calibrated and constant, for it gave accurate and precise readings of mass. Good laboratory practices that relate to equipment calibration consist of making sure you actually regularly calibrate your laboratory equipment. In doing this you are making sure that your measurements are as accurate and precise as they can be, and that they are consistent and can be replicated, as well as reliable and ... Richard succeeded to his grandfather s throne on June 22, 1377, at the young age of ten. Due to his young age the government continued to be run by nobles of the kingdom, in the same fashion it had been in the last years of his grandfather s reign. These nobles were dominated by his Uncle John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster. Guant s misrule brought on quicker economic deterioration that was being caused by the Black Death and the Hundred Years War, being fought against France. Gaunt was able to keep the peace between the factions until, in July 1386, he left England to pursue his own dynastic ambitions in Castile, Spain. By leaving Gaunt left Richard at the mercy of his enemies, who instigated Parliament to impeach his chancellor, Michael de la Pole, Earl of Suffolk, and created an eleven man commission to oversee the king s activities for a year. When Richard declared these measures treasonable violations of the royal prerogative, his opponents retaliated by having the Parliament of 1388 outlaw his closest friends, some of whom were executed. The defenseless king submitted to the five principal opposition leaders, the appellants, until May of 1389. In May he announced his intention to rule as an independent monarch of full age. Gaunt s return from Spain in 1389 stabilized the situation and Richard worked in apparent harmony with the Gaunt and the appellant lords for eight years. But in actuality the king spent this time waiting for an opportunity to avenge himself against his former enemies. He slowly made a second royalist party, that was stronger then the first. By 1397 he was ready to strike, he had Arundel convicted of treason and executed; Warwick was banished and Gloucester imprisoned and murdered. In September of 1398 a quarrel between two former appellants broke out, Gaunt s son Henry Bolingbroke and Thomas Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk. This quarrel gave the king a chance to banish both ... The term Palestine has been associated variously and sometimes controversially with this small region. Both the geographic area designated by and the political status of the name have changed over the course of some three millennia. The region, or a part of it, is also known as the Holy Land and is held sacred among Jews, Christians, and Muslims. They were to converge and confront each other in Palestine where, it was initially thought by some, they could each achieve their aspirations in an atmosphere of mutual accommodation. The two movements, in fact, proved incompatible and the majority of Arab suffering resulted. Beginning in the 1800 s, oppression of Jews in Eastern Europe sparked a mass emigration of Jewish refugees. Some Jews formed a movement called Zionism, which sought to make Palestine an independent Jewish nation. The first Zionist Congress was held in Switzerland in 1897 and it issued the Basle programme on the colonization of Palestine and the establishment of the World Zionist Organization (WZO). Then, in 1906, The Zionist congress decided the Jewish homeland should be Palestine. The only problem was that there already was a large Arab Palestinian population inhabiting the area. For this reason, Zionism was used as a propagandist tool to rid Palestine of the Arabs and to start a new nation for the Jews. A look at the fabric of Jewish Zionists that emigrated to Israel exhibited the driving forces and it displayed how massively the movement developed. For Russian Jews, it was the desire to escape totalitarian oppression. Religious Jews went there hoping for the day of messianic redemption. EDC exposure elicits oncogenic changes in matrix components and tumor architecture The importance of extracellular matrix (ECM) composition, stiffness, 3D architecture and its influence cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and survival have been well characterized(Jansen et al., 2015) (Kourouklis, Kaylan, Underhill, 2016; Yang et al., 2016) (Coombs, Leonard, Rush, Santistevan, Hedberg Dirk, 2016; Rammensee, Kang, Georgiou, Kumar, Schaffer, 2016; Subbiah et al., 2016).Cells can sense discreet changes in ECM make up, and have been shown to behave differently in a 2D in vitro setting compared to in 3D in vitro culture (Alessandri et al., 2014; Lu et al., 2013). While the precise mechanism remains to be defined, the tumor stiffness has been implicated as a potential initiator of metastasis and tumor progression (Fenner et al., 2014). The reorganization of structural components of tumors has been shown to enhance both tumor formation and metastasis, demonstrating a structural link between density, the stromal component, and the tumor (Chaudhuri et al., 2014). Furthermore, epithelial cells are known to respond to changes in environmental stiffness enhancing proliferation and cell motility (Chaudhuri et al., 2014). The world we live in now exists because of science and math, but there was a time when people didn t like math and science. A time when people would rather believe religion and logic, then math, science, and evidence. Narrator Michael Mosley tells a story of science. He says the story of one of the great upheavals in human history was how we came to understand that our planet was not at the center of everything in the cosmos but just one of billions of bodies in a vast and expanding universe. In Greece, at the temple of Apollo, there was the city of Delphi, where many greeks would go because they belived there was a stone that was in the middle of the Earth and the middle of the universe. Greek scientists believed that the Earth remained still, while the rest of the stars and planets moved around us and Earth was in the middle of the cosmos. For thousands of years, people believed that the Earth was in the middles of the universe. They even built equipment that further fueled their belief. In modern times, we know this isn t true, so how did people stop believing? It started in the 17th century. During the 17th centruy, Europe was in turmoil. When it comes to a prime example of questioning morality in Kubrick s films A Clockwork Orange is a go to case study of free will and the morality of judgement and punishment. The film is an analysis of humanity and explores topics such as aversion therapy which is not just a dystopian fantasy but exists in the real world. It analyses punishment and examines the justice system both with portraying the classic punishment method like the prison and the rehabilitation method. Going back to Nietzsche s views on morality, it is worth noting that he condemns the Judeo Christian morality as too strict and unhealthy. However, using that philosophy A Clockwork Orange again shows the opposite as the society and law system s ethics are very much radical and they believe that the only way they could eradicate the crime and chaos in society is to take people s right of choice. In their criminology analysis of A Clockwork Orange Lichtenberg, Lune and McManimon (2004) sum up the main issue concerned in the film with the statemen confirmed by the prison chaplain that: If there is no choice, there is no morality. Therefore, Kubrick s film focuses on some important questions and problems that are shown as issues of a dystopian society but are also truly problems present in contemporary society as well such as: could the spectator blame the establishment for being cruel and immoral if they are trying their hardest to eradicate relentless crime or is taking someone s free will and right to choose an inhuman thing to do overall? In the novel, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien, there is seemingly a lot left up in the air about religion and the symbolism of nature, but when read the way the author intended, there are a few very strong themes that resemble those portrayed in The Tyger and The Lamb . Throughout the writings, the two authors portray nature in a way that allows it to symbolize their own personal thoughts and views on religion. Religion and Nature are very closely connected, and in both writings, it is essential to understand this because nature is conveyed through religion in the poems, and religion is conveyed through nature in the novel. Nature s connection with religion is shown in the very definition of nature as a creative and controlling force in the universe (Merriam Webster English Dictionary 2.a). It is very obvious what religion is: A belief of what created nature. So, if you can understand the religion or nature used in the writings, you can understand the meaning of the other. Whether or not the government should have a say in the use of drugs seems like an endless, looping debate. The increase in drug usage in the United States is undeniable, and many are beginning to question whether the burden of the war on drugs such as a huge budget and overpopulated prisons is worth it. William Bennett, the author of Drug Policy and the Intellectuals is part of the opposition and says that indeed it is worth it. In his text, he argues that Americas intellectuals think that the drug problem in America is absurdly simple and easily solved and that the drug problem in America is a lost cause . He suggests that the war on drugs is essential and they aren t taking it seriously. He seems very passionate on the topic and brings up a lot of valid points which also covers many common rebuttals. On the other hand, although having good intentions on the matter, there are many fallacies that are obvious and he tends to use worst case scenarios as a kind of norm. Overall I would rate the essay a 8/10 and say that it is definitely Toulmin style. Bennett s passionate style of writing makes it clear that he is fairly grounded to his opinion on drugs and he uses a Toulmin style to best fit his argument and stance. Agatha Christie Rationale LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new as stated in the subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed more towards newer fans, such as Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know where to start reading her Poirot stories, or to make sure they don t read a book that spoils another book they have not yet read. I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John Curran, as I imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was successful. The movie review on Murder on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch was a relevant choice as the film has released in theatres recently so I looked for a mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the novel recipe by Kate Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who knew every detail of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking.
