What Is A Synagogue
The biblical term for holiness is kodesb. The way to holiness, in other words, was for Israelites,
individually and collectively, to emulate God s attributes. The same interaction is evident in the
commandment to sanctify the Sabbath, with God and the Israelite people acting in tandem to realize
the holiness of this occasion. God shows the way and Israel follows. Synagogue is a holy place
dedicated to the glory of God. If prayers are to ascend to heaven, the synagogue must reflect sanctity
and humility. God has chosen Israel, both land and people, to be witnesses and a testing ground for
God to reveal His holiness in the world and through them the ultimate purpose of creation should be
unveiled and clarified.

My Experiences After Attending The Practice Of Public...
Reflective Assignment
This paper discusses my experiences after attending the Practice of Public Health Leadership (PPHL)
subject in 2015, reflecting on important lessons learnt, the relevance to my work and the support
required for my improvement.
When I enrolled in this PPHL, I was not sure that I will get the best out of the subject due to previous
experiences of attending theoretical leadership trainings. However, at the end of the subject, I was
challenged, groomed, humbled and inspired as a leader. The subject has helped more to bring a lot out
of myself, stimulated the urge for personal authenticity and an appreciation of the power of
vulnerability in leadership. Through personal interactions with other students and presenters as well as
the group activities, I have realised that the success of the team depends on recognising each other s
strengths and complementing on the weaknesses. In addition, I have learnt that effective leadership
depends on team work, incorporating people with different skills and abilities. I have learnt the
importance of personal reflection and meditation in leadership. Furthermore, taking time to know
myself or who I am, has been one of the great lessons from this subject. It has enabled me to focus on
the roles of a leader instead of striving to do everything myself as the case before. In addition, learning
the skills of gaining the trust of the people you are leading as well as inspiring them was a remarkable
lesson.

Proposal On Body Weight
My aunt, who has had 3 children over the course of 4 years, struggles with her weight. The largest
factor contributing to her excess body weight is the kids. The children are very young and demand an
overwhelming amount of her time as a stay at home mother. Carrying 3 children takes a great toll on
one s body, and she has little time to recover from the last child before carrying the next. A seemingly
continuous state of pregnancy results in reduced exercising, binging, cravings, and loss of motivation.
I recommend that she engage in mommy workouts with her little one s as an activity to occupy her
kids and increase her activity. Mommy workouts are exercises that a mother can complete with her
children, such as raising her little one over her head while doing leg raises, etc. Regarding diet, I
recommend that she reduce the fast food intake that often is resorted to in a demanding lifestyle. In
extension to this, she can substitute high sodium and high fat foods on these menus with salad options.
In order to comply with a busy lifestyle, healthier food options are still possible at home with the use
of a crock pot, which can be set up before the kids wake up. A church member can seldom attend
services due to his struggle with weight, which has recently put him in a wheelchair. A combination of
complications with aging and learned helplessness have resulted in an overwhelming weight struggle.
As he ages, his weight has become harder to manage as physical activity becomes

Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt s Roles in the Great...
The Roaring Twenties were a breath of fresh air after WWI, men and boys were reunited with their
families after being away. The 30s brought a new surprise though, a Great Depression that forced
every member of the family to dramatically alter their life style. The father had to take on more
responsibility because of the belief that it was their job to put and keep food on the tables. Mothers
had the difficult task of stretching every dime that the father brought in. Children had it hard too. Boys
started taking on small jobs doing just about anything to earn pocket money or money for the family.
They had to give up things they liked to do like playing and just being kids to help. Many girls were
expected to give up simple entertainments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Others, though, were ashamed that they couldn t provide for their families and left home and never
returned. Many men were proud people, like in the story about Kit, an American Girl growing up in
the Great Depression. Her father was too proud to admit that they family needed help and never
admitted that he was waiting in line at the soup kitchen with other people just to eat and would even
take bread or butter from the soup kitchen for the rest of the family. People like him worked multiple
jobs just to keep busy and feel like they were doing some good. Men took jobs in industrial,
mechanical, and teaching (77% of schools would only allow men to teach). Man, traditionally seen as
the main provider often felt bewildered and inadequate when they could not provide. Many employers
were looking for jobs that a men didn t like to do, so women would take over.
Many women took jobs that men did not want such as cooking, cleaning and running the household.
Women also got jobs in textile mills, working machinery that made clothing. Many women were
talented at making clothes for the family. This kept up with the latest style and was much less
expensive. With the WPA, Works Progress Administration, nearly 300,000 women were working with
approximately 9,000 different sewing units. Women were sometimes left alone to run the household
when the father left for his own reasons. It s been said that Women got all her life in her arms. Man
got it all in his head. meaning that women

Death Of The Butterflies Patria Quotes
That moment, I understood her hatred. My family had not been personally hurt by Trujillo, just as
before losing my baby, Jesus had not taken anything away from me. But others had been suffering
great losses (Alvarez, 1994, p. 53). This quote had been stated by Patria in relation to religion.
I had heard, but I had not believed. Snug in my heart, fondling my pearl, I had ignored their cries of
desolation. How could our loving, all powerful Father allow us to suffer so? I looked up, challenging
Him. And the two faces had merged! (Alvarez, 1994, p. 53)
This image illustrates how Trujillo s system truly brunts the lives of Patria, her sisters, and their fellow
people. To them, Trujillo is almost godlike. He usually gives them arcane commandments, smites
those who contravene his power, and is delimited by wealth. Patria shows her disbelief in how
callously God is behaving toward her because of her child s death. Throughout In the Time of the
Butterflies, Julia Alvarez s Patria Mirabal develops from an optimistic young Catholic girl to a woman
who doubts; subsequently, that educators can further come to understand the influence of God on one

It is the Lord s will, I agreed, but the words sounded hollow to my ear (Alvarez, 1994, p. 53). Patria
begins to doubt the religion she had been raised upon, and basically lived off of subsequent to the
passing away of her baby. Before losing her baby, Patria had never felt personally affected by Trujillo
since he had been from a prosperous family. On the other hand, after experiencing a loss, she begins to
feel compassion. Alvarez uses this excerpt to inform educators that although one is taught moral
behavior as an adolescent, it is up to the individual to steadily exemplify good behavior throughout
their future

For Colored Girls Movie Analysis
This was the first time I saw the play or the movie, For Colored Girls . But after watching this, I am
glad I finally did. I liked how everything was set up and how each actor had a colored scarf . Each
woman from the play introduced themselves by saying where they were from and explained their
story. I believed that the actors took their role seriously and was able to bring the emotional aspect to
the play and some were able to bring previous experience to the reading of the play.
At the end of the play, each colored woman found God in themselves and finally loved her . I think
this means that after years of being abused, they found God and the joy and happiness they need to
finally love themselves because their husbands were not doing

Dyslexia is one type of specific learning disability or SLD. Dyslexia is a brain based type of SLD that
weakens a person s ability to read. It is not related with a person s IQ but has a strong connection with
phonological awareness, short term memory and rapid naming. Most people with Dyslexia have
normal or even high IQs. Many children with reading disabilities like dyslexia attend general school
but need special education services. This is why early diagnosis is an important factor in being able to

All of these functions essentially provide a substitute for human effort. Due to the widespread
consumption of petrol based liquid fuel, an incredibly large global infrastructure and set of
surrounding institutions have grown around the support of such consumption. The petrochemical fuel
industry manifests itself in the form of oil ļ¬elds and reserves, pipelines, transport ships, and fueling
stations. The way energy is used worldwide is not sustainable. It is well documented that the use of
these fuels is depleting the world s natural resource reserves, harming communities in terms of health
and displacement, and polluting the air and water in local environments. The drilling, reļ¬ning, and
transporting of oil leads to spills on land and in oceans, and when petrol based fuels are used to power
machines and automobiles, the air is polluted with greenhouse gases and particulate matter such as
carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur, and nitrous oxide emissions. In spite of the drawbacks, the
current energy industry is committed to the continuation of these ways, primarily because of
considerable assets and investment in the existing form of infrastructure. The challenge, which
became clear to the team from class discussion and further brainstorming, is to ļ¬nd a form of fuel or
technology that can mitigate the current negative affects on the environment of petrol based fuel while
utilizing the existing infrastructure. The urgency of this challenge is heightened by the

Kramer vs. Kramer
Any parents thinking of divorce should be court ordered to watch Kramer vs. Kramer. If there is even
a slight chance of compromise after seeing it, they will stay together rather than inflict their separation
upon their children.
Everyone should see Kramer vs. Kramer, including parents and children of broken families. I first
viewed the movie only a short time ago and I was blown away at how pertinent it still is to today s
culture. This is an account of a man who falls in love with his son, more than a film about divorce. He

One might call Robert Benton s direction mechanical, but his cast excels in roles that seem solely
written for their personalities. Its supporting cast, including Jane Alexander and JoBeth Williams,
provide superb performances. Primarily, I must pay tribute to Dustin Hoffman for his acting. We re
familiar with somewhat unconventional roles, as opposed to his excellently delivered role of a more
characteristic man with very human qualities.
As modern movie viewers, we re often presented with unrealistic child characters. We re used to small

social capital in a community destroyed or depleted by contemporary business thinking. ( Laville, J. L.

different persons including investors hold the property rights of community based enterprise, workers,

The Concept Of Cultural Erasure, Inequality And Violence
Postcolonialism: The Concept of Cultural Erasure, Inequality and Violence Colonization can be dated
back to 1492 with the Spanish venture led by Columbus. Colonialism is defined as The policy or
practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers,
and exploiting it economically (Oxford Dictionary). This expedition spread European influence
worldwide, in places such as China, Lebanon, India, and Antigua. European influence is still prevalent
today through the crossing of racial lines and shifting of cultures towards a more civilized way of
living. Colonialism is still prevalent today, in the form of postcolonialism. Postcolonialism can be
defined as America s benefaction to nations worldwide that include dynamic influences in things such
as: government, culture, education and economy. One of the concepts erected from colonialism is
globalization. Since globalization is a direct effect of colonialism, it is no surprise that globalization
influences the same categories as postcolonialism (government, culture, education and economy),
making the two concepts almost synonymous with minimal differences. Globalization is defined as
the integration of economics and communications of nations through increased contact by technology.
Globalization dominates the economic and social side of the field while postcolonialism dwells in the
cultural and educational aspects. This European gift has contributed to global conflicts,

Legend Of Newton Research Paper
Have you ever heard the legend about Newton and how he discovered gravity? Legend has it young
Newton was sitting under an apple tree and all of a sudden he gets hit on the head apple. This legend
is supposedly the real reason how the laws of gravity were created but it s not all true. The real story
which was told by Isaac himself is, he was barely looking out the window when he happened to see
the fruit drop. Even then, some Newton scholars think the story involving the apples was made up.
Newton wasn t always such a serious guy. He was a weirdo. He purposefully stuck a needle in his eye
socket. The reason for him sticking a needle was that he was experimenting with the properties of
light and used himself as a guinea pig. James Gleick the author of Newton s biography released in
2003, said that Newton did this because people at the time were not really sure whether the eyes were
responsible for collecting light or creating it and Newton wanted to find that out. ... Show more

Newton himself said, Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the
planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done. He believed God was
the creator of the universe and everything living. Newton had an obsession with the Bible. Getting
back to his obsession with the Bible, it s worth mentioning that Isaac went to the extent of learning
Hebrew. He wanted to find out the hidden meanings instead of working on science all the time.
Newton thought he was a big time sinner. He studied the Bible at great depths and wrote more on
religion than about science or mathematics. He actually wrote a list of 48 sins, he committed, which
includes punching his sister, being rude to his mother and sister ,

Advantages Of Refrigeration
FABRICATION AND TESTING OF ICE PLANT TEST RIG
ABSTRACT
Refrigeration may be defined as the process of achieving and maintaining a temperature below that of
the surrounding, the aim being to freeze to ice, cool some product, or space to the required
temperature. The basis of modern refrigeration is the ability of liquids to absorb enormous quantities
of heat as they boil and evaporate. One of the most important applications of refrigeration air
conditioning is to produce ice for commercial applications with minimum energy consumption. Ice
plant is used for producing refrigeration effect which uses the vapor compression cycle and by using
this cycle we are doing performance and analysis of ice plant test rig using R404A Eco friendly

COMPRESSOR
In this Ice Plant we use the reciprocating compressor. The compressor in which the vapour refrigerant
is compressed by reciprocating motion of piston is known as reciprocating compressor. The purpose of
compressor in the vapour compression cycle is to compress the low pressure dry gas from the
evaporator and raise its pressure to that of condenser. There are two types of reciprocating compressor,
Positive Displacement and Dynamic. In this plant we are using positive displacement hermetic
compressor. Since the compression of the refrigerant requires some work to be done on it, therefore a
compressor must be driven by some prime mover. The prime mover is an electric motor which
converts input electrical energy to useful mechanical work. This work is transmitted as torque to the
compressor through common shaft and coupling

Virgil Analysis of Dante Inferno Essay example
Virgil
Virgil came to be regarded as one of Rome s greatest poets. His Aeneid can be considered a national
epic of Rome and has been extremely popular from its publication to the present day.
Virgil Beatrice sends Virgil to Earth to retrieve Dante and act as his guide through Hell and Purgatory.
Since the poet Virgil lived before Christianity, he dwells in Limbo (Ante Inferno) with other righteous
non Christians. As author, Dante chooses the character Virgil to act as his guide because he admired
Virgil s work above all other poets and because Virgil had written of a similar journey through the
underworld. Thus, Virgil s character knows the way through Hell and can act as Dante s
knowledgeable guide while he struggles alongside Dante ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dante is like the son Virgil never had. This comes to light most apparently in their flight from the two
timing demons. In lifting Dante to his chest and carrying him as he sprints toward safety, Virgil
becomes a mother figure to the terrified Dante. Hmmm, father and mother? You re right in guessing
that something bigger is going on here. As an unofficial poet laureate of the Romans, Virgil is a kind
of patron spirit of Italy. Moreover, as the consummate speaker and writer of Latin the ancestor
language of Italian Virgil is, in a sense, the fore father of Dante s native language. The two poets
kinship traces back to their respective languages.
Virgil and Language
As much as Dante wants the title of world s greatest poet, Virgil, it seems, has that honor. If you haven
t noticed, the author Dante hits us over the head with all the linguistic imagery in which Virgil is
steeped. First and foremost, there s that big important passage about Virgil s persuasive word. We
know this is a weird concept so let s just recap. The phrase in Italian is parole ornate which translates
literally as decorated word. Doesn t that fit Virgil to a T? We re talking about the writer of the Aeneid
here, the Latin epic to end all epics, and Dante s all time favorite book.
We figure that Virgil spent so much time writing the Aeneid invoking the Muses, speaking in

National Interestā€™ Is the Most Important Factor in the...
National interest is the most important factor in the formation of any foreign policy. Evaluate this
claim .
___________________________________________________________________
It would seem a self evident claim that national interest must play a significant part, if not a central
one, in the formation of any state s foreign policy. This claim could be made because it would appear
natural that the role of the state, in any situation, is primarily to further the interests of the society and
people that it represents. This is the basis of its legitimacy and the reason of its very existence. This
paper will explore the extent to which it can be said that states pursue national interests in their foreign

There are also many theorists who subscribe to the idea that states are constantly involved in an
apparent game of power politics. Power politics is a perspective whereby international politics
inevitably entails perceptions of insecurity (...); struggles for power; the use of Machiavellian
stratagems; the presence of coercion; attempts to balance power; and the use of war to settle disputes
(Vasquez, 1998, p.168). The guiding assumption of this particular theory is that states have little to no
choice but to engage in this type of politics, and that failing to do so would have dire consequences in
so far that they would be [placing] their fate in the hands of international institutions or the good will
of others (Shimko, 2005, p.122). There is thus an underlying principle in this theory that suggests
states act not only to further their interests because they are inherently prone to act in this way, but that
to not do so would endanger their chances of survival. Strange (1983) is also strongly in favour of the
theory that it is essentially interest and power relationships that mediate behaviour in the international
system, in her critique of the impact of international regimes (which she believes play a somewhat
more negligible role). Unless a truly fundamental

Comparing The Three Worlds In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream seems, to me, to combine three worlds. A romantic world
of lovers, the workday world, and the fairy world. And while all three worlds tangle and intertwine
together during the play, it is the fairy world that has the most impact. The lovers are changed by their
meeting with the children of Pan. For the people who constructed this play and brought these worlds
to life in the plays in theatres, the first questions that I would ask are: what do the fairies look like, and
how is their world different from ours? Our world has grown very technological, and separated itself
from nature. I am sure artists answers to those two questions have changed drastically between then
and now. Back then, people were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tort Reform And The Civil Justice System
Tort reform is an extremely debatable topic in the political legal fields. By definition, tort reform
refers to, The proposed changes made in the civil justice system that directly reduces tort litigation or
damages. Generally, when someone mentions tort reform to an everyday normal person who is not
familiar with legalese, they don t have any idea of what the term tort reform is. Throughout this, one
will understand through the three interviews conducted that two out of three people don t necessarily
understand the full concept of tort reform or have absolutely no idea what it is. One of the most
notorious cases that led to the ongoing debate of tort reform is Liebeck v. Mcdonald s Restaurant.
When the case is brought up, one will say, Isn t that the lady that burned herself with coffee and then
tried to sue for millions of dollars? People believe they know the details of the case, however one will
be able to see, this particular case is often misconstrued. In my personal opinion, after learning and
studying the facts of this case, I don t understand how a human being could be for tort reform after
actually learning about the trials and tribulations that certain people in these kinds of cases, especially
Stella Liebeck, have to go through. First, the initial opinion of two out of three people when asked
what is their opinion of the case is similar. The first interviewee, Tyler, believed Stella Liebeck just

Body Image Concern In Adolescent Girls
Purpose: In the article Net Girls: The Internet, Facebook, and Body Image Concern in Adolescent
Girls Marika Tiggemann, Ph.D. and Amy Slater, Ph.D. (Clin Psych) questioned whether there is a
connection between internet use and adolescent body image concern. These researchers also focused
their study on one specific social networking site, Facebook.
Method:
Researchers in this study grouped together a sample of 1,087 girls aged 13 and 15 who were in the
first two years of high school, 8th and 9th grade. The sample of adolescent girls was selected from 18
different schools across South Australia. In order to make this experiment as diverse as possible, The
Department of Education selected a wide range of adolescent girls that came from different
socioeconomic status. Additionally, they selected students from private and public schooling
(Tiggerman Slater, 2013).
Measures:
Internet Exposure: Adolescent girls were asked how long they spend on the internet each disregarding
hours spent for homework. The answers ranged from 0 6 hours. After measuring everything else the
researchers asked the girls if they had Myspace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everywhere I looked, media was/is trying to portray this perfect body to the public oblivious to the
harm that it causes among teenagers. Every girl wants to that have the perfect body that the media
portrays, but not every girl can attain it. Even if you try and turn away; it is impossible because
everywhere you turn the media/public is depicting their idea of an unrealistic perfect body. I believe
that there is no such a thing as a perfect body. One s body is what makes us who we are. Every single
person is unique due to an individual physical trait and we should not be embarrassed or ashamed of
that trait. Instead, flaunt it and show the media and the rest of the world that you are happy the way

Wyatt Earp s Tombtone
Have you ever wondered how accurate the portrayal of Hollywood movies are? Often, Hollywood
takes liberties to enrich the content and to keep viewers entertained. Since Tombstone, by George
Cosmatos and Kevin Jarre is a Hollywood portrayal in need of a dramatic storyline, there are many
historical inaccuracies that plague the film.. At times, the inaccuracies distort the reality and credibility
of the movie but overall the movie is relatively historically accurate. The movie is largely based off of
Stuart N. Lake s Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshal. Written in the 1930s, this book is a largely
fictionalized account of Wyatt Earp s life. Because Lake s book was meant to heroize Wyatt Earp, he
is portrayed that way in Tombstone. Tombstone is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He controls the town of Tombstone and implements many laws to help keep the town safe. One of the
laws that he implemented was the anti open carry law which prohibited the carry of firearms in public.
He also risked his life in the shootout at the O.K. Corral so he could save the people from danger.
However, Wyatt was nowhere near the law abiding angel he was depicted to be in the movie. Wyatt
had a history of various kinds of theft and crime including but not limited to: horse theft, involvement
in the sex trade and escaping from prison.(Isenberg 46). Wyatt was arrested three times in Peoria
because of his association with the sex trade (Isenberg 46). His less than stellar criminal record forces
us to reconsider the validity of his character portrayal as an entirely good guy. . The movie does not
mention anything about Earps controversial history or run ins with the law. In the movie Tombstone,
Wyatt was seen as a preventer of violence, but in reality he had a history of perpetrating it. In a
gunfight fight prior to moving to Tombstone, Arizona, Wyatt was reported as an instigator of violence.
According to one of the participants of the gunfight, he did more to provoke the continuation of the
gunfight than to end it (Isenberg 180). The historical inaccuracies of the movie continue to show after

A Room With A View Analysis
A Room with a View is a 1908 novel written by E.M. Forster about Lucy Honeychurch, a young
Englishwoman struggling to determine what she truly wants in a society that has strict expectations for
her. While vacationing in Italy, Lucy gets a taste of independence and excitement as well as meeting
her true love George Emerson, only to return to England and become engaged to Cecil Vyse, a man
her family and society deems socially acceptable, but who in reality is dull and pretentious. Forster
contrasts the scenery, culture, and people of Italy and England to demonstrate how Lucy was able find
happiness when she ignored familial and societal expectations and instead listened to what she truly
wanted. Italy and England and Lucy s experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He views her as a piece of artwork to be owned not a thinking person and is annoyed when she
exhibits her own ideas. For example, Cecil is taken aback by Lucy s distaste for Reverend Eager. He
compares her behavior to seeing the Leonardo on the ceiling of the Sistine (Forster 81). Overall, Italy
provides Lucy with excitement and independence, and upon returning to England she finds herself to
be stifled by its dull familiarity and stiff expectations. On the whole, the contrast between the two
places contributes to the meaning of the work by emphasizing the importance of defying social
convention and expectations in order to discover one s true desires and happiness. By showing Italy,
with its less defined classes and lack of social rigidity, as bright and exciting, Forster shows how
rewarding it is to ignore social roles and be independent. In Italy, Lucy was able to be independent and
explore, therefore making her time in Italy much more exciting than in England. Similarly, the scenery
itself if depicted as more vibrant. The contrast between Italy s excitement and England s familiarity
emphasize how much more interesting life is for Lucy when she is taking charge. Forster also
contrasts the people of Italy and England. The Italians are very genuine and go after what they want,
as opposed to the English whose actions are dictated by what other may think. An example would be
when Phaethon, their cab driver, boldly kisses

The Battle Of Battle For Okinawa
Raining Steel
Having in direct fire assets helped to impact the battle of Okinawa enormously. There were dilemmas,
troubles, and endeavors. This battle leads to the progression of our artillery. It educated the military
and artillery showing it is difficult to shoot, move, and communicate effectively when moving with
the fast pace of a battle. Throughout the 82 day battle, they used marine air, artillery, mortars, and
naval gunfire. Artillery provided fires delaying, disrupting, and destroying the enemy, proving who the
true king of battle is.
The battle for Okinawa begin on 01Apr1945 and went until 22Jun1945. The capture of Okinawa was
part of the plan to win the Far East war. The island of Okinawa is a part of a group of islands at the
southern end of Japan. The main focus for the Americans were four airfields that were on the island
that they wanted to control. The forces that made up the American landing party were the III
Amphibious Corps and XXIV Corps, making the Tenth U.S. Army under the command of Lieutenant
General Simon Bolivar Buckner Jr. American forces had not been able to gather very much
intelligence about the island which made it difficult to determine how many enemy forces there have
been. There were over 130,000 Japanese troops waiting on the island. There were over 450,000
civilians which made operations harder for American forces. The enemy forces were mainly down in
the southern sector of the island waiting for the Americans. The beach

When Does Fair Use Become Theft and Viceversa
Who really owns ideas, and how long should they hold them? When does Fair Use become Theft and
vice versa?
Those are the question raised in Brett Gaylor s documentary RiP: A Remix Manifesto, raises alarms
for those who think copyright holders have become too aggressive about protecting their intellectual
property.
The documentary highlights the popular music artist known as Girl Talk. Girl Talk consists of one man
named Gregg Gillis and he takes parts from different songs (usually popular ones) and creates new
music of his own. He doesn t use any of his own materials at all. A lot of people consider his work
stealing and what is known as Copyright infringement; even though he changes the music so much,
you can t even tell what all of the songs he uses are. Girl Talk is known as a mash up artist, and
according to the documentary, mash up artists have stirred up quite a controversy with both the
Copyright Company and the other artists they take their material from.
Copyright problems arose with the advent of the free availability of information on the Internet. It was
easy for people to steal music, movies and images from the internet and use them to create their own
mash up piece. Prior to the internet copyrighting actually encouraged creativity. Once music sharing
websites like Napster began, musicians and other artists began suing and copyright laws became more
rigouous in their scope and enforcement.

The Journey of Ty Cobb in Cobb by Al Stump Essay
The book Cobb by Al Stump is a look into the late 19th century and early into the 20th through the
eyes of Ty Cobb. The historical biography of Tyrus Raymond Cobb follows his path from classroom
screwaraound and fighter to the greatest hitter to ever grace the major leagues. Ty Cobb. Growing up
in Royston, GA, Cobb was the oldest of 3 siblings and the son of a schoolteacher, principal,
newspaper publisher, state senator, and county school commissioner who wanted him to do nothing
but study. Cobb didn t listen, he practiced his way to making the bigs, shortly before leaving his dad

An ugly man was pig face or ratface. The Royston Rooster(Cobb) learned of a player s weakness, and
in a high screech made sure the crowd knew of it. (82) By modern day s courtesy standards Cobb
would ve been hit, fined, and booed into submission, but back in the day he was able to trudge on
through any abuse he recieved. In the story Cobb influences a well renowned sports analysist by
sending him letters from fake people, different addresses, and different handwriting styles. Over time
and many letters stating how good Cobb was and how he was practically setting the world on fire
there was nothing to do but note how good Cobb was in one of his articles. In the modern day one
could pull up youtube and find out if the accusations were correct and if Cobb was found out he d
probably serve jail time. Back in the day he hardly recieved a slap on the wrist though. However the
attention drawn by this article grabbed the Detroit Tigers association s attention, which later led to Ty
becoming their starting, hall of fame, centerfielder. Tyrus Raymond Cobb was an arrogant, rude,
hostile young boy who blossomed into a talented, arrogant, rude, hostile man. Cobb would do
anything to reach the top: beat up comparable players, jeer, and kick their legs into bloody masses of
flesh. One cannot scoff at his skill and dedication though, in addition to him being dedicated enough
to be the greatest player the game has ever seen, Ty became a captain in world war one

Metis Struggle for Self Identification Essay examples
One of the most contentious issues in Canada s history is that of the Metis. Some people feel this
unique group of people does not deserve any sort of recognition, whereas others believe their unique
history and culture is something to be recognized and cherished. The history of the Metis people is
filled with struggle; not only struggles against other powers, but also a struggle for self identification.
Despite strong opposition, the Metis people of Canada have matured as a political force and have
taken great strides towards being recognized as a unique people. The word Metis is a French word that
means: mixed race . Today it is often used for anyone who has European ā€“ Indian heritage, but when

This new trading company was primarily made up of French Canadians and its creation was a direct
threat to the Hudson s Bay Company, which held an absolute monopoly on the fur trade. In the middle
of this conflict were the Metis, who held important positions as traders, labourers and clerks within
both trading companies. By the end of the 18th century, many Metis people had begun to congregate
around the trading posts at Red River . Many of the clerks working for either trading company were
Metis and so the conflict grew in significance. Eventually the harsh methods of the Hudson s Bay
Company caused the Metis to become disillusioned and so many joined with the Northwest Company.
With increase in trade activity around the red river valley, there was an increased need for
transportation other than the waterways. The ox and cart had been used for many years but the Metis
re vamped this idea by having the first cart tied to the right hand rear of the second Ox , and so on.
The driver would be able to be in charge of up to five Ox and cart at the same time . This new version
of an old idea was called the Red River Cart . It allowed the Metis to travel with a larger amount of
goods and become more efficient because of the reduced risk of the carts getting stuck due to five cart
tracks being set instead of one track, which had been done previously.

The Power of Imagination Dreams or fantasies are windows to new and exciting worlds. The usage of
the imagination can make reality or the world a more pleasing place to live in. However when dreams
are interpreted as goals, it can make our view of the world very narrow and limited. The narrative, The
World and Other Place by Jeannette Winterson involves a story of a pilot who let his fantasies guide
him towards reaching his goal. His imagination caused a positive impact in his life which was
achieving his dream. He attained his dreams because of his goal driven mindset, in which the focus is
set on one goal. On Habit by Alain de Botton is about the author s views on the travelling and
habituated mindset. He notices that his life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why? On the other side of the door is a mirror, and I will have to see myself. I m not afraid of what I
am. I m afraid I will see what I am not (Winterson 288). The dress designer is implying that she is
fearful when she admits that she is running away from the bolted door. Opening the door means letting
go of a restricted, goal driven mindset the dress designer developed in order to view life in a new
perspective. It also means letting go of her fantasies. However, the dress designer is fearful of facing
reality because her dreams are invoking the fear. Her dreams are what she uses to define herself. She
does not want to let go of her dreams because accepting her reality or her flaws will strip her of her
pride. Therefore this will make her feel fearful of expanding her horizons. Because of the dress
designer s fear of letting go of her dream, she is not open to trying out new things. She is not open to
trying a new career path, or doing other things than what she mentioned in the text such as partying.
Although De Botton mentions a destination and not a dream, De Botton and the dress designer s
points are very similar because they are both goals in which focus is put on and aspects that are
considered relevant to their lives. The dreams or goals that were held up so high are putting limitations
on both of their realities. The dress designer is shrinking her reality by simply

The Pros And Cons Of Segregation
In society, segregation is a detriment to minorities and is still currently around today, accepting
segregation is ignorant and unethical. Many minority people aren t given a chance to succeed in their
lives because of the opportunity that isn t offered to them. In this day and age, anything that represents
segregation being acceptable should be removed. In schools, segregation was outlawed a long time
ago but it is working its way back and that is causing minority groups to receive less of an education,
with fewer opportunities. Even though society has progressed, segregation still exists and creates
unfair obstacles in minorities lives. Minority groups aren t given the same opportunities as other
individuals. In other words, every individual isn t given an equal opportunity to succeed in life.
According to Washington Post, Authors of Redlining prevents minority families from becoming
homeowners says To redline a community was to cut it off from essential money and resources . Not
giving someone the necessary things they need to thrive in life is very unreasonable. Washington Post
writes The consequences of past redlining can last longer than we realize, even as new forms of it
continue. The lasting impact of not having the essential things and not getting the same opportunities
is a disadvantage and can affect the future of these minority groups. The new form of redlining is

Couch Potato 2 Analysis
I have been to many different musical performances throughout my life, and have performed in about
as many as well. These performances range in purpose and technique from a Native American
powwow intended to unify people of different tribes, to professional a cappella groups performing in
front of large audiences for entertainment. No matter what culture presents music or what genre it
belongs to, something can be learned from a performance. One specific musical performance that I
would like to analyze is the Uintah High School choral concert titled Couch Potato 2, which took
place in Vernal, Utah, on February 23, 2017. This concert, Couch Potato 2, is a perfect example of a
community performance designed to engage the crowd as well as the performers. In order to

This concert was put together by all the choral students, from the general choir students to the audition
only advanced choir students, with the intention of having a fun, relaxed concert before starting to

welcomed the audience and explained this, and told that the idea came from the success of a previous
concert named Couch Potato. The students then entered and sang songs, complete with choreography,
from popular movies. As such, the performance was an interpretation of the composer s, the director s,
and the performer s intentions. The songs performed, as I mentioned, were taken from movies, so the
composer s view when writing the song for the movie was taken into account. For instance, one
popular song that was sung was the Mission Impossible theme song. The composer intended for this
song to be

Essay On Lilies Of The Field
Lilies of the Field
In the book Lilies of the Field, the topic of culture has been explored through many meaningful
examples. Some examples from the book Lilies of the Field were that there are different branches of
religion. Sadly, there was also racism shown in the book. And last there is a difference of daily life in
the book Lilies of the Field. Now get ready to learn the differences of the branches of Christianity and
political/social problems. Now the exciting and different culture of the book Lilies of the Field.
The first and one of the most important issue was the issue of race. The African Americans were
considered 2nd class citizens. There is evidence of this issue by the way Homer is treated throughout
the book, especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example the nuns would go to mass every Sunday. Mass was generally for Catholics so Homer
refused to attend the mass. Homer thought that they were trying to convert him to change into a
Catholic. Before attending the Sunday morning mass the nuns would not eat breakfast before the
mass. However, that was different in the eyes of a Baptist, The nuns believed that Homer was a gift
from God to build the Chapel. The nuns had faith in Homer when no one believed in him. hen Homer
left, the Nuns told everybody he would come back but no one believed it;Homer came back. Also, the
nuns pronounced Amen with a short a vowel sound unlike Homer who would pronounce Amen with a
long a vowel sound. Now it is enough about religion and now we are going to discuss what the forms
of racism there was in the book Lilies of the Field.
Another issue in the book Lilies of the Field is that the 1960 s of the immigration issues during that
particular time in history. Since the nuns were from Eastern Europe and the political environment that
they had to overcome. One of the biggest hurdles that they had to overcome was the Berlin Wall. The

  • 2. What Is A Synagogue The biblical term for holiness is kodesb. The way to holiness, in other words, was for Israelites, individually and collectively, to emulate God s attributes. The same interaction is evident in the commandment to sanctify the Sabbath, with God and the Israelite people acting in tandem to realize the holiness of this occasion. God shows the way and Israel follows. Synagogue is a holy place dedicated to the glory of God. If prayers are to ascend to heaven, the synagogue must reflect sanctity and humility. God has chosen Israel, both land and people, to be witnesses and a testing ground for God to reveal His holiness in the world and through them the ultimate purpose of creation should be unveiled and clarified. • 3. My Experiences After Attending The Practice Of Public... Reflective Assignment This paper discusses my experiences after attending the Practice of Public Health Leadership (PPHL) subject in 2015, reflecting on important lessons learnt, the relevance to my work and the support required for my improvement. When I enrolled in this PPHL, I was not sure that I will get the best out of the subject due to previous experiences of attending theoretical leadership trainings. However, at the end of the subject, I was challenged, groomed, humbled and inspired as a leader. The subject has helped more to bring a lot out of myself, stimulated the urge for personal authenticity and an appreciation of the power of vulnerability in leadership. Through personal interactions with other students and presenters as well as the group activities, I have realised that the success of the team depends on recognising each other s strengths and complementing on the weaknesses. In addition, I have learnt that effective leadership depends on team work, incorporating people with different skills and abilities. I have learnt the importance of personal reflection and meditation in leadership. Furthermore, taking time to know myself or who I am, has been one of the great lessons from this subject. It has enabled me to focus on the roles of a leader instead of striving to do everything myself as the case before. In addition, learning the skills of gaining the trust of the people you are leading as well as inspiring them was a remarkable lesson. Reflecting on my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Proposal On Body Weight My aunt, who has had 3 children over the course of 4 years, struggles with her weight. The largest factor contributing to her excess body weight is the kids. The children are very young and demand an overwhelming amount of her time as a stay at home mother. Carrying 3 children takes a great toll on one s body, and she has little time to recover from the last child before carrying the next. A seemingly continuous state of pregnancy results in reduced exercising, binging, cravings, and loss of motivation. I recommend that she engage in mommy workouts with her little one s as an activity to occupy her kids and increase her activity. Mommy workouts are exercises that a mother can complete with her children, such as raising her little one over her head while doing leg raises, etc. Regarding diet, I recommend that she reduce the fast food intake that often is resorted to in a demanding lifestyle. In extension to this, she can substitute high sodium and high fat foods on these menus with salad options. In order to comply with a busy lifestyle, healthier food options are still possible at home with the use of a crock pot, which can be set up before the kids wake up. A church member can seldom attend services due to his struggle with weight, which has recently put him in a wheelchair. A combination of complications with aging and learned helplessness have resulted in an overwhelming weight struggle. As he ages, his weight has become harder to manage as physical activity becomes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt s Roles in the Great... The Roaring Twenties were a breath of fresh air after WWI, men and boys were reunited with their families after being away. The 30s brought a new surprise though, a Great Depression that forced every member of the family to dramatically alter their life style. The father had to take on more responsibility because of the belief that it was their job to put and keep food on the tables. Mothers had the difficult task of stretching every dime that the father brought in. Children had it hard too. Boys started taking on small jobs doing just about anything to earn pocket money or money for the family. They had to give up things they liked to do like playing and just being kids to help. Many girls were expected to give up simple entertainments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Others, though, were ashamed that they couldn t provide for their families and left home and never returned. Many men were proud people, like in the story about Kit, an American Girl growing up in the Great Depression. Her father was too proud to admit that they family needed help and never admitted that he was waiting in line at the soup kitchen with other people just to eat and would even take bread or butter from the soup kitchen for the rest of the family. People like him worked multiple jobs just to keep busy and feel like they were doing some good. Men took jobs in industrial, mechanical, and teaching (77% of schools would only allow men to teach). Man, traditionally seen as the main provider often felt bewildered and inadequate when they could not provide. Many employers were looking for jobs that a men didn t like to do, so women would take over. Many women took jobs that men did not want such as cooking, cleaning and running the household. Women also got jobs in textile mills, working machinery that made clothing. Many women were talented at making clothes for the family. This kept up with the latest style and was much less expensive. With the WPA, Works Progress Administration, nearly 300,000 women were working with approximately 9,000 different sewing units. Women were sometimes left alone to run the household when the father left for his own reasons. It s been said that Women got all her life in her arms. My family had not been personally hurt by Trujillo, just as before losing my baby, Jesus had not taken anything away from me. But others had been suffering great losses (Alvarez, 1994, p. 53). This quote had been stated by Patria in relation to religion. I had heard, but I had not believed. Snug in my heart, fondling my pearl, I had ignored their cries of desolation. How could our loving, all powerful Father allow us to suffer so? I looked up, challenging Him. And the two faces had merged! (Alvarez, 1994, p. 53) This image illustrates how Trujillo s system truly brunts the lives of Patria, her sisters, and their fellow people. To them, Trujillo is almost godlike. He usually gives them arcane commandments, smites those who contravene his power, and is delimited by wealth. Patria shows her disbelief in how callously God is behaving toward her because of her child s death. Throughout In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez s Patria Mirabal develops from an optimistic young Catholic girl to a woman who doubts; subsequently, that educators can further come to understand the influence of God on one s actions. Before losing her baby, Patria had never felt personally affected by Trujillo since he had been from a prosperous family. On the other hand, after experiencing a loss, she begins to feel compassion. I believed that the actors took their role seriously and was able to bring the emotional aspect to the play and some were able to bring previous experience to the reading of the play. It is well documented that the use of these fuels is depleting the world s natural resource reserves, harming communities in terms of health and displacement, and polluting the air and water in local environments. The drilling, reļ¬ning, and transporting of oil leads to spills on land and in oceans, and when petrol based fuels are used to power machines and automobiles, the air is polluted with greenhouse gases and particulate matter such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur, and nitrous oxide emissions. One might call Robert Benton s direction mechanical, but his cast excels in roles that seem solely written for their personalities. Its supporting cast, including Jane Alexander and JoBeth Williams, provide superb performances. Primarily, I must pay tribute to Dustin Hoffman for his acting. We re familiar with somewhat unconventional roles, as opposed to his excellently delivered role of a more characteristic man with very human qualities. As modern movie viewers, we re often presented with unrealistic child characters. We re used to small Einstein s with witty comebacks and smart one liners that are entertaining but very unrealistic of most kids. Because of this, we frequently experience irritating youths and develop pre conceived notions about child actors. Kramer vs. Kramer destroys that reputation. The Concept Of Cultural Erasure, Inequality And Violence Postcolonialism: The Concept of Cultural Erasure, Inequality and Violence Colonization can be dated back to 1492 with the Spanish venture led by Columbus. Colonialism is defined as The policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically (Oxford Dictionary). This expedition spread European influence worldwide, in places such as China, Lebanon, India, and Antigua. European influence is still prevalent today through the crossing of racial lines and shifting of cultures towards a more civilized way of living. Colonialism is still prevalent today, in the form of postcolonialism. Postcolonialism can be defined as America s benefaction to nations worldwide that include dynamic influences in things such as: government, culture, education and economy. One of the concepts erected from colonialism is globalization. Since globalization is a direct effect of colonialism, it is no surprise that globalization influences the same categories as postcolonialism (government, culture, education and economy), making the two concepts almost synonymous with minimal differences. • 13. Legend Of Newton Research Paper Have you ever heard the legend about Newton and how he discovered gravity? Legend has it young Newton was sitting under an apple tree and all of a sudden he gets hit on the head apple. This legend is supposedly the real reason how the laws of gravity were created but it s not all true. The real story which was told by Isaac himself is, he was barely looking out the window when he happened to see the fruit drop. Even then, some Newton scholars think the story involving the apples was made up. Newton wasn t always such a serious guy. He was a weirdo. He purposefully stuck a needle in his eye socket. The reason for him sticking a needle was that he was experimenting with the properties of light and used himself as a guinea pig. James Gleick the author of Newton s biography released in 2003, said that Newton did this because people at the time were not really sure whether the eyes were responsible for collecting light or creating it and Newton wanted to find that out. ... One of the most important applications of refrigeration air conditioning is to produce ice for commercial applications with minimum energy consumption. The compressor in which the vapour refrigerant is compressed by reciprocating motion of piston is known as reciprocating compressor. His Aeneid can be considered a national epic of Rome and has been extremely popular from its publication to the present day. Virgil Beatrice sends Virgil to Earth to retrieve Dante and act as his guide through Hell and Purgatory. Since the poet Virgil lived before Christianity, he dwells in Limbo (Ante Inferno) with other righteous non Christians. In lifting Dante to his chest and carrying him as he sprints toward safety, Virgil becomes a mother figure to the terrified Dante. Hmmm, father and mother? You re right in guessing that something bigger is going on here. As an unofficial poet laureate of the Romans, Virgil is a kind of patron spirit of Italy. Moreover, as the consummate speaker and writer of Latin the ancestor language of Italian Virgil is, in a sense, the fore father of Dante s native language. The two poets kinship traces back to their respective languages. Virgil and Language As much as Dante wants the title of world s greatest poet, Virgil, it seems, has that honor. Evaluate this claim . ___________________________________________________________________ It would seem a self evident claim that national interest must play a significant part, if not a central one, in the formation of any state s foreign policy. This claim could be made because it would appear natural that the role of the state, in any situation, is primarily to further the interests of the society and people that it represents. This is the basis of its legitimacy and the reason of its very existence. There are also many theorists who subscribe to the idea that states are constantly involved in an apparent game of power politics. Power politics is a perspective whereby international politics inevitably entails perceptions of insecurity (...); struggles for power; the use of Machiavellian stratagems; the presence of coercion; attempts to balance power; and the use of war to settle disputes (Vasquez, 1998, p.168). The guiding assumption of this particular theory is that states have little to no choice but to engage in this type of politics, and that failing to do so would have dire consequences in so far that they would be [placing] their fate in the hands of international institutions or the good will of others (Shimko, 2005, p.122). There is thus an underlying principle in this theory that suggests states act not only to further their interests because they are inherently prone to act in this way, but that to not do so would endanger their chances of survival. Strange (1983) is also strongly in favour of the theory that it is essentially interest and power relationships that mediate behaviour in the international system, in her critique of the impact of international regimes (which she believes play a somewhat more negligible role). A romantic world of lovers, the workday world, and the fairy world. And while all three worlds tangle and intertwine together during the play, it is the fairy world that has the most impact. The lovers are changed by their meeting with the children of Pan. For the people who constructed this play and brought these worlds to life in the plays in theatres, the first questions that I would ask are: what do the fairies look like, and how is their world different from ours? Our world has grown very technological, and separated itself from nature. I am sure artists answers to those two questions have changed drastically between then and now. Back then, people were ... While vacationing in Italy, Lucy gets a taste of independence and excitement as well as meeting her true love George Emerson, only to return to England and become engaged to Cecil Vyse, a man her family and society deems socially acceptable, but who in reality is dull and pretentious.
